Mariah - One of Yachting's Biggest Fans // 8:54 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Vacations are all about rest, relaxation, and, of course, indulgence. And when it comes to Hollywood's biggest stars, you can count on them to take it up a notch by spending time in exotic locales, on some of the world's most luxurious yachts.

For whom in the world of entertainment's elite does the siren song of the sea call the loudest? When it comes to charter savvy, two frequent floaters stand out from the pack: Mariah Carey and P. Diddy. Forget Stella and her groove, these two have dropped anchor from SoBe to Saint Tropez.

Anyone who reads the tabloids while on line at the supermarket can tell you that the multi-octave Carey has had her ups and downs, both personally and professionally. Her film, "Glitter", was a dud, and her hectic workload put her in the repair shop for a physical and emotional tune-up. Through it all, the pop diva's prescription for keeping it real has been fresh sea air and the creature comforts of private yachts. Indeed, wherever and whenever possible, this chart-topper has opted out of hotel stays and used yachts as overnight respites during concert tours.

"When her schedule permits, Mariah loves to get away on boats," claims her travel coordinator, G. Kates. "She feels the warm, salty air is good for her vocal health." According to Kates, Mariah especially loves yachts with on-deck Jacuzzis. "Who wouldn't love relaxing in a warm hot tub, gazing at the stars, with nary a paparazzo in sight?" he asks rhetorically.

Ever the explorer, Mariah has enjoyed both weekend getaways and multiweek retreats on yachts in South Florida, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. This two-time Grammy winner has logged more nautical miles than most ships' captains!

The self-indulgent Carey has even been known to combine the best of two great holidays, by renting both a shoreside villa and a luxury yacht at the same time. As one Hollywood insider reports, "You can host a bash in your villa then slip away with your 'real' friends out the back door and onto your boat."

Mariah has even been known to request yachts that will allow her to bring along her two beloved pet pooches. Ah, la dolce vita!

Mariah Carey To Make Her Theatrical Debut? // 6:01 PM EST Updated by Lynn

Neil Sean, Sky News UK entertainment reporter was on "Fox & Friends" Friday, November 25th and talked about the latest on Mariah's theatrical appearance on London's West End stage.

Fox News Host: Neil, talk to us about Mariah Carey who may or may not be appearing in a play over there and how is she received in England?

Neil: Oh we love Mariah Carey. Honestly, what we like about Mariah Carey, she is like the Judy Garland if you like, of this country because she's been down, she's been up, she's back. Remember, of course, she made "Glitter" the movie with a very respected English actor called Max Beasley, that didn't go down too well for her.

Fox News Host: We're trying to forget that.

Neil: Actually I met Mariah recently and she said that that movie is turning into something of a "cult" viewing. You never know, it can be put back out or rereleased or whatever. But Mariah, we can tell you is basically trying to get her West End theater career off the ground. She was meant to start later this year in of course "The Prince and the Showgirl," the big movie which starred Marilyn Monroe in 1956 with Lawrence Olivier. They couldn't find anybody to play the Lawrence Olivier part and now that her record career has taken off again with the "Mimi" album, she said it could be at least 2008 before we actually see Mariah on stage which would still make her under 40. She's looking good.

New Voice Message from Mariah! // 5:38 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Head over to Mariah's Official Site for a brand new voice message Mariah left for her fans.

    Transcript:
"Yeah and hey! I had to call you because listen, when I explained what happened to me on the stage at the American Music Awards, I wasn't lying... a bit! The uh.. ugh! Even I just found out just before the performance, and I'm like, 'Oh I see they thought the slit was what was ripped.' No darling, the whole left side of the upper portion of the dress was ripped so had I moved the wrong way or whatever, it would have been a wrap so I was just like, 'Oh why me? Why are you doing this to me? We don't need that.' So anyway Jessica, we love you, we love your ensembles but we can't have that no more.

Anyway, so I just wanted to say because I kinda like I then changed clothes backstage infront of a million people with one little drape covering me so I was still kinda like so excited if you saw when they said that I won the award and I was like, 'I won? Okay, whatever.' And I was just trying to tell the story 'cause I just felt so bad that I couldn't even hear myself the first half of what I was singing 'cause those monitors, we need to hear ourselves so we can sing along. Anyway, so I didn't get the chance to show you the love that I feel I typically do. And that made me upset. So just in case you didn't see me doing all the tabloid shows and everything, thank you, thank you, thank you to the fans, to the lambs, to my extended family as I'd like to refer to you. I'd like to let you know that without you it would be 'bleakosity, say what' and seriously I really mean that and I love you so very much. And, I don't know, I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving.

We just got back from Detroit. We had little halftime fun out there and then we ate dinner there with some nice friends and family and things of that sort so we hope that your Thanksgiving was awesome as well and just that you know everything is great with you and basically my main platform is to thank you. I thank you for doing so well with BET like that. Looking at that and seeing the nice video at #1? Thank you lambs and everything you're doing at TRL as well and everything. Just I can't thank you enough on this day of giving thanks even though it's the next day already technically.

I'm very thankful for every single one of you and I wish you luck and lots of love and the best holidays ever. Thank you for helping to make this year one of the best if not, the best year in my entire life. Alright, love you much. Chat with you soon. Bye, bye!"

'Mimi' to be Released Digitally in Late December // 3:10 AM EST Updated by Liron

A recent article about the effects of digital downloads over album sales reveals that Island Def Jam's intentions are to stall the digital release of Mariah's new album (including "Don't Forget About Us") until late December in order to concentrate on album sales.

Meanwhile, at least one label appears to be more concerned about shoring up CD sales. Island Def Jam released Mariah Carey's "Limited Mimi" album to traditional retailers November 15, but will wait until late December to make it available digitally. The album includes the current top 10 hit "Don't Forget About Us." Sources at the label say they feel 99-cent iTunes singles are cutting into album sales.

--Comments/mentions on Mariah's appearance at the NFL Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show:

--From Washington Daily News: "Just when I thought I was in the middle of a tryptophan-coma, I realized I was actually watching Mariah Carey belt out some "beautiful" tunes during the Falcons-Lions game. A combination of an abundance of mom’s turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes along with Carey’s singing caused me to put on a pot of coffee before heading into work. I wonder how long it took her posse to fit Carey into that body-hugging outfit. Not that I’m complaining. It just gave me one more reason to be thankful."

--From Detroit Free Press: "Mariah Carey put on a better show than the Lions... And so much for the Lions' day in the spotlight. Is that really such a good thing these days, national TV exposure and all that? But it's the holiday season. Let's wrap it up with some things we were thankful for Thursday: ...Mariah Carey's halftime show.

--From The Detroit News: "The house went quiet as soon as Mariah Carey began her performance during halftime of the Lions game."

--From Baller Status: "For those that were too busy stuffing their face with turkey, Toni Braxton sang the national anthem and Mariah Carey performed at halftime of the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions game yesterday. Toni Braxton is still fly and MC hasn't really lost a step in the looks department either. Did y'all peep her outfit!?"

Rumor Alert: Mariah To Wed // 3:05 PM EST Updated by Lynn

Mariah Carey is riding high with the success of her latest album — and she's going to celebrate her comeback by getting married!

Friends say the sexy songbird will walk down the aisle in June 2006 with the man who helped put her back on top of the pop charts, music executive Mark Sudack.

Said a pal: "Mariah has tried to keep her relationship with Mark under the radar. She guarded the romance fiercely but she's tired of hiding him."

According to an insider, Mark, 29, was a staffer at Mariah's record label when she hired him as her "house photographer" in early 2004. He then leapfrogged up the ranks at Mariah's company to the point where he was listed as co-executive producer on her hit album The Emancipation Of Mimi!

Said the pal: "She considers Mark her lucky charm — and largely responsible for her best-selling CD in years."

Considered her strongest album since the late '90s, Mimi debuted in April at number one with the highest first week sales in the singer's career.

Mariah, 35, was married to music bigwig Tommy Mottola from 1993 to 1998 and was then linked to Yankee great Derek Jeter, Latin singer Luis Miguel and rapper Eminem. But now she only has eyes for Mark.

Said the friend: "Mariah is elated — and she'll soon be making good on the promise of her hit "We Belong Together" when she weds her beau!"

Mariah's AMA Post-Show Interviews // 8:15 AM EST Updated by Lynn

After opening the show and collecting the night's first award for Best Female R&B Artist at the American Music Awards, Mariah Carey chatted backstage with Extra, The Insider, Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition about her unforgettable night.

    EXTRA
Extra reported she nearly did a Janet Jackson with her gown. Mariah explained, "They're trying to sew me up on my way to the stage. Three people trying to sew me and they're going, 'one minute, one minute, 30 seconds!' and I'm like, 'Hello, I need to be on, this is live TV!'" Meanwhile, Hilary Duff and her rocker boyfriend Joel Madden revealed who they were there to see: "Mariah Carey," Duff said. "I'm really excited, I think she's awesome."

[ Download "Extra" Interview Here ]

    THE INSIDER
Pat O'Brien: It's Miss Mariah Carey. Her and I go way back.
Mariah: We've been through bumpy roads but you were there from day one.

It was her big night winning Favorite Soul/R&B Artist. The soul diva dazzled onstage but behind the scenes, a wardrobe malfunction was just waiting to happen. "I had a dress for my performance that you had to sew me into it because we didn't want an ugly zipper so they're going, 'okay, we're five minutes away' and I'm not even in a dress, I'm in a robe. I came here tonight in a robe. Thank God, somebody brought a robe for me or I would have been here in a towel." she said.

[ Download "The Insider" Interview Here ]

    ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT
Mariah Carey has a lot to be thankful for. She was a big winner at last night's American Music Awards. She opened the show with a thigh-bearing gown and told Paula Abdul backstage she was grateful for avoiding a wardrobe malfunction.

[ Download "Entertainment Tonight" Interview Here ]

    INSIDE EDITION
Backstage you could feel the excitement and the flurry of activity. That's where we caught up with super-diva Mariah Carey. We talked about the drama during her opening number. Look closely, Mariah is pulling out her earpiece. "So I'm like, 'Just let it die,' started singing and I'm like, 'wait a minute, I can't hear myself' so I'm ripping one out then I ripped the other one out and then I'm like, 'whatever! I don't care' and I just had to do it."

But the big fashion moment of the night was almost a wardrobe malfunction. Mariah who was the first performance of the night was stuck in traffic and almost didn't make it to the show. "I am literally two minutes away and they're like, 'two minutes, two minutes!' and I'm in a robe. I drove here in a robe." Mariah changed into her still unfinished dress at the last second. "I had to be sewn into it because we didn't want to have a zipper. So we get there and they're trying to sew me in as we're walking but the bottom line is I went on stage with a dress that's half open here. So I really tried to play it off."

Inside Edition also showed a clip of Mariah's animated video of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" and said that AOL Music will debut the video on Tuesday.

Thurston High band to join Mariah Carey at Ford Field // 6:12 PM EST Updated by Liron

Ambure Kelley is a big Mariah Carey fan.

In addition to owning Carey's CDs and dancing to her chart-topping songs, the Thurston High School senior soon will be able to brag about something most Carey devotees only dream of -- performing with the star.

Kelley's high school marching band is one of a handful of local groups participating in the Detroit Lions' halftime show Thanksgiving Day.

The 17-year-old clarinetist and 104 other Redford Township musicians will play Carey's "Shake It Off" to kick off the 8-minute show.

"I was so surprised; I thought it was awesome," Kelley said Tuesday, describing the moment last Wednesday when Thurston bands director Edward Lucius told his group about the halftime invitation.

To prepare, the band expects to have a 5-hour dress rehearsal today at Ford Field.

Thurston, which placed fourth at this year's Michigan Competing Band Association championship, had to memorize dance steps, formations and spacing for their approximately 2 1/2 minutes of fame.

    Kelley certainly got it.

"I like the grooving part 32 counts into it," she said, demonstrating double-dig steps.

Though more of a country music fan, trumpet player Anthony Provezano, 15, was willing to miss his family's Thanksgiving dinner for the chance to dance with Carey.

Instead of fretting over stage fright, Anthony was worrying about the athletes.

"I'm not really a fan," he confessed. "They're not really that great, but you still have to support the team."

Joining Thurston and dozens of other local groups that have been invited will be the Detroit-based Drummer Boys. The group's decision to perform was more of a slam dunk, er, touchdown.

"They were thrilled," said Ron Fane, director of the drum line troupe. "We've had other invitations as well. They had to choose." Fane said 22 members of the drum line, which is made up of youngsters from throughout Detroit, will perform.

Thank you so much! I just have to take a second and just... first of all, thank you so much for the warmth and the love. You have no idea. I have to thank Larry Klein because I was literally, you saw me run across the stage if you were sitting here, my dress was not sewn on, my ear monitors, that thing, not hooked up. So if anybody saw me pulling out things out of my ear, that was me like I gotta do some freestyling, do what I gotta do. So basically, thank you to the audience and if it wasn't right, I tried, I did the best I could. But thank you God. The only reason I am here is because of the grace of God and if you believe you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Thank you so much! Thank you L.A. Reid, I love you from my heart and soul. "Merry Christmas:" The Best In A Crowded Genre // 10:39 AM EST Updated by Lynn

After being hard to find for a number of years, Mariah Carey's great 1994 Christmas album is available all over the place. It is one of the very best of a crowded genre. Speaking of Mariah, I was speeding through the TV channels the other day, on my way to PBS's "The Virgin Queen." I passed MTV, and there was Mariah, trilling away, all cleavage and big hair and microskirts. And because this is a video (so it doesn't have to make sense) she is also filmed in a swimming pool, acting out her idol Marilyn Monroe's fabled nude swim scene.

I didn't stick with MTV because soon somebody was rapping about bling, but I was amused by Mariah's romp. She certainly hasn't taken anybody's advice on dressing more conservatively!

AMA Host Cedric Looks Forward To Meeting Mariah // 10:08 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Hosting the 33rd Annual American Music Awards Tuesday night certainly comes with its share of perks, and host Cedric the Entertainer is sure to exploit a few. Don't be surprised if the comedian uses the awards to get closer to Mariah Carey.

In an interview last week, the Berkeley native, recently honored by the St. Louis Film Festival for career achievement, talked about his infatuation with Carey.

    Q. The "American Music Awards" promos are touting a duel between Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson. Who wins that one in your opinion?
    A. I saw this new video with Mariah. I like that she can sing, but with this new video she was really looking good. Then I would go with Gwen, then Kelly. Gwen will battle Mariah. They'll go neck and neck. It'll really depend on what outfit Mariah shows up in.

    Q. Who are you looking forward to meeting for the first time?
    A. I've had great opportunities to meet some of these people before and hang out with them. But Mariah would be nice. I'd have to tell her how I feel about the video and see if she feels me on any level. I met her briefly at an awards show before, but this time I'll go ahead and put it on her. I'll have all my own DVDs with me, plus "Madagascar" and "The Honeymooners," two handfuls.

    Q. What was your favorite album and song of 2005?
    A. This will probably never get nominated, but Damien Marley. I've been digging that. I like the Black Eyed Peas stuff, and Mariah Carey is always worthy. You gotta give her some love. She came back. I listened to a lot of hip-hop, which doesn't always get that kind of love. I don't think you'll be hearing (D4L's) "Laffy Taffy."

'Hits' Predicts "Mimi" To Finish At 175k-180k For #3 // 7:21 PM EST Updated by Lynn

It's been a close race all week between the ladies, but it looks like age and experience trumps all, as Warner Bros.' Madonna edges her way to the top of tomorrow's chart. Our happy number-crunchers here at HITS predict that Maddy, now a respected elder stateswoman amongst the divas, will sell 340k, beating out American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's Arista/RMG debut release, which our crunchers predict will sell 300 to 310k, putting her way above the predicted #3 winner—Mariah Carey, who should sell between 175 and 180k copies of a new expanded version (complete with DVD) of her The Emancipation of Mimi.

Mariah's An Inspiration // 9:07 PM EST Updated by Lynn

--The Sunday Mail asked some of Australia's top musicians and industry giants to delve into their closets, dig out some long-lost memories and share the record that made them the person they are today. Simone Stacey, singer of the famed Australian R&B duo, Shakaya said it was Mariah Carey's Music Box for her.

"Whenever I was feeling down as a teenager, I'd play Mariah Carey's Hero and it would give me strength. My parents were very strict in the church and I was never allowed to do all the things my friends were doing, like going to the movies or to dances.

I used to get teased about it. So I'd take my cassette player and headphones down to the beach, play Hero and have a little sob. It would always calm me down and soothe me.

Mariah got me through some tough times; she really taught me to look into myself and realise that what the other kids were doing wasn't really worth getting so upset about. I learnt to deal with things that way. "

--In an interview with Australian magazine, Time Off, Kelly Clarkson said the first song she ever performed was Mariah's "Vision of Love."

"The first time I performed I did 'Vision of Love' by Mariah Carey and [my mom] was laughing because she was like 'Where in the heck did this voice come from out of this little girl that's been living with me for so long?' So I don’t know… it came out of nowhere."

Download: Mariah Guests On The Ellen DeGeneres Show // 8:42 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Generous Mariah Carey said thank you to US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in style on her daily show yesterday by giving her a white Dolce & Gabbana suit.

Carey claimed she was inspired to smarten up her image after wearing a suit Ellen loaned her the last time she appeared on her show and wanted to repay her for her kindness.

The singer asked to borrow a black suit from the comedienne's backstage racks when she arrived for her show without the outfit she planned to wear and DeGeneres made her a gift of the jacket and trousers.

Grateful Mariah made sure Ellen's generosity was rewarded yesterday when she presented the host with a brand new D+G suit design that has yet to hit the fashion house's stores.

Thrilled DeGeneres said, "I love this. I'm keeping it on, I'm keeping the tags on too because that's cool... Thank you so much, that's sweet."

DeGeneres had a surprise in store for her guest - she invited a group of Los Angeles foster children who have adopted Carey as their living saint onto the show. The singer was scheduled to meet with the children at a special party recently but had to cancel at the last minute to head off on a press tour of Japan.

Damizza Tells The Story of "Crybaby" Recording // 6:25 PM EST Updated by Liron

When I produced "Crybaby" for Mariah, Snoop had just got back from the MTV awards in NY. I had a 2 day deadline to finish the record (and snoop was jet-lagged) so we had to do it at his house/the Dogghouse studio. MC was in NY and all I had was her vocal on the beat. So I go out to see Snoop, Battlecat, Daz, Kurupt, and the eastsidaz we're there and I played Snoop the track and then we started to get ready to record and can't seem to get the mic to work. So Snoop, Battlecat and I start looking for the end of the cord to see if it's plugged in- Battlecat had a flashlight and started to look under the board, Snoop was on the faders and Mikizza (eng) and I were messin with the gear and tryin to find out a way to make a new Mic cord.. so we finally get it an hour or 2 (and 10 blunts later..) Snoop goes in the booth and Battlecat fixed the problem and recorded the vocal for us... I think I have it all on video tape somewhere.... any way it ended up being a #1 R&B seller and a top 5 R&B song.. HISTORY!! as they say...

Grammy Groups Meet This Weekend // 6:23 PM EST Updated by Liron

The Grammy Award committees are meeting this weekend in Los Angeles. They are all at a big hotel, but if I give the location, bad things are bound to happen.

Nevertheless, here are my suggestions for a couple of categories. Best Album — "American Idiot," Green Day; "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," U2; "A Time 2 Love," Stevie Wonder; "Late Registration," Kanye West; and "The Emancipation of Mimi," Mariah Carey.

Best Song — "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Green Day; "Original of the Species," U2; "Shelter in the Rain," Stevie Wonder; "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey; and "Since U Been Gone," Kelly Clarkson.

Thousands Turn Out To Mimi's Hollywood Album Signing! // 7:19 AM EST Updated by Lynn

On Tuesday night, at the Virgin Megastore, some 2,500 plus fans lined the streets of Hollywood Boulevard to welcome Mariah to her album signing of her latest release The Emancipation of Mimi: Ultra Platinum Edition.

True to her superstar status Mariah arrived to throngs of screaming, chanting fans along either side of Hollywood Boulevard in a charcoal grey colored Rolls Royce Phantom. As soon as the car pulled up and Mariah’s foot hit the "platinum" carpet the sound outside became deafening from screaming fans straining to catch a glimpse of their idol. Mariah made her way through the crowd stopping intermittently to shake a hand, blow a kiss, wave, and greet her legion of fans. The set-up outside resembled a Hollywood movie premiere with the star of the evening holding court. Mariah graciously made her way through the press line and the flashing lights inside the Virgin Megastore where she signed copies of her new CD for over 4 1/2 hours to accommodate fans who had camped out since Monday at 4:00 am to meet their idol.

"I love meeting fans face-to-face when I can," she said. "There's something about somebody just connecting with you musically, and knowing that I've written a song that has touched them, that's invaluable to me."

A rep for the Virgin Megastore said this is the most they have ever sold at any in-store!

"Don't Forget About Us" Rockets To #4 On Hot 100 Airplay // 3:38 AM EST Updated by Liron

  • In its 31st chart week, The Emancipation of Mimi stays at #15 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
    Sales this week: 41,975 (-3%)
    Total sales: 3,735,554

The Ultra Platinum Edition which came out this week is expected to boost the album's sales. Here are Hits Daily Double's predictions based on one day sales:

Island/IDJ has come with an expanded CD+DVD repackage of Mariah Carey’s mega-hit The Emancipation of Mimi, which also contains her latest hit single. This gambit worked wonders last year for Usher, and it’ll solidify the album’s status as the second-biggest seller of 2005 (behind 50 Cent’s The Massacre). Early reports have the beefed-up Mimi shimmying toward the140k-160k hood, and additional sales on the old version could bring the total to 175k or so.

Don't forget to purchase your copy of "The Emancipation of Mimi: Ultra Platinum Edition"! The deluxe edition includes 4 new songs, 4 videos on the DVD and links to the "Don't Forget About Us" music video and a never before seen 25 minutes interview.

  • On the Hot 100 Airplay, Don't Forget About Us rockets from #11 to #4, becoming Mariah's 3rd consecutive top 5 Airplay hit (both "Shake It Off" and "We Belong Together" peaked at #1!)

Impressions gain from last week: +10.2 million (+1,303 spins)
    Total audience impressions: 83,861,300.

"Don't Forget About Us" jumps 3 spots to #17 this week on the Hot 100 chart. Despite having strong airplay, the song can't advance on the Hot 100 chart due to the fact it hasn't been released to digital outlets yet.

On November 15th, the song was available for download on several digital outlets (and even made its way up to #13 on the iTunes top 100 chart) but was then pulled out, presumably by the label.

  • Shake It Off drops three places to #12 on the Hot 100. This ends a 12-week run for the song on the top 10 of the Hot 100, including 6 weeks spent at its peak of #2.

"Shake It Off" drops five places to #42 on the Hot Digital songs chart and passes the total of 300,000 downloads!
    Downloads this week: 11,191 (+22%)
    Total downloads: 300,030

  • "We Belong Together" falls down to #31 on both the Hot 100 chart (#26 last week) and the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (#23 last week).

  • "All I Want For Christmas Is You" re-enters the Hot Digital Songs chart at #82.
    Downloads this week: 6,226 (+149%)
    Total downloads: 106,156

Stay tuned for more Billboard updates.

Mariah Carey Plans To Make At Least One More Mimi Video // 3:27 AM EST Updated by Lynn

When discussing her new The Emancipation of Mimi: Ultra Platinum Edition on Saturday, Mariah Carey casually plugged the release date (it dropped Tuesday) after stating the title.

"Rappers do it, why can't I?" she asked, as dozens of rappers were probably doing just that at the Vibe Awards taking place around her.

These days, after the success of the original The Emancipation of Mimi (4 million sold in the U.S. alone), Mariah can do just about anything she wants. The question, then, is what will she do next?

"I'm definitely gonna take some time off," said the singer, who's been promoting the album nonstop since its April release. "I'm totally excited for the holidays, which is like ... I'm queen of festivities, that's my bag, but I think I have to figure out what my next thing is gonna be."

While she determines where to go with her Mimi follow-up, Mariah plans to keep promoting Ultra Platinum Edition with at least one more video. (She refused to reveal for which track.)

Currently, she's enjoying continued airplay with "Don't Forget About Us," which was the initial reason for re-releasing the album.

"'Don't Forget About Us' was a song that Jermaine [Dupri] and I started writing and didn't finish, and L.A. Reid heard it. He was excited about it and he was like, 'We should re-release the album,' " Carey recalled. "And I'm happy 'cause I got to do another video, I'm gonna do some more videos, and I got to do some more exciting collaborations, so it's cool and really a thank-you to my fans — that's kind of like a constant theme in my life."

Along with the new single, the Ultra Platinum Edition features three other unreleased tracks, "So Lonely (One and Only Part 2)," a remix of "We Belong Together" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P., and "Making It Last All Night (What It Do)" featuring Jermaine Dupri.

The re-release also includes a link to download the "Don't Forget About Us" video, which re-teamed Mariah with Paul Hunter, who directed her favorite video of her career, "Honey."

"It deserved an MTV Award, but once again I got shut out, as would be the standard," Carey, who lost again at this year's Video Music Awards, complained. "But I was so happy to work with him again 'cause ever since 'Honey' I've been trying to relive the splendor of that moment. It's more of just a plain beauty piece with sentimental overtones, but it was great to work with Paul again."

Mariah has called "Don't Forget About Us" a basic love song (see "Marilyn Monroe Inspires Mariah To Shed Clothes For New Video") and chose not to elaborate further on Saturday.

"I try not to get too specific so that people can apply the lyrics to their own lives," she explained. "When I was growing up and listening to the radio and I would hear a song that reminded me of a certain person or a situation or whatever, I would want to be able to completely connect it to that moment. And then if I heard someone explaining it and making it into something totally different, it ruined it for me. So I kind of like to keep it open for people's imaginations."

Carey will perform the song at Tuesday's American Music Awards as well as on Thanksgiving during halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons game.

A triumphant Mariah Carey returns to Hollywood // 9:08 AM EST Updated by Liron

What a difference four years have made.

In 2001, soul-pop singer Mariah Carey took on Hollywood, and Hollywood won. Her feature-film starring debut, "Glitter," proved anything but gold. The film was drubbed by critics and ignored by ticket buyers.

What followed in Carey's life could have made a far better film: She suffered a breakdown and, within a year, she was bought out of her $100-million contract with Virgin Records. For a brief time, she didn't even have a record label.

Tuesday night - ironically, at the Virgin Megastore - Carey returned to Hollywood nothing less than triumphant. Her latest CD, "The Emancipation of Mimi," is the year's best seller in North America with 4 million units sold. She's sold another 2 million copies worldwide.

Hundreds of her fans waited for the chance to get their "Mimi" CDs signed in the store.

    Talk about a comeback kid.

"They can call me whatever they want," Carey, 35, told AP Television News. "I never went anywhere. And my real fans have always been here for me. And, you know what? It's a wonderful feeling and everything I have is because God has blessed me with this and I'll always be grateful for what I have."

Carey showed that gratitude to the fans who lined Hollywood Boulevard, some of whom had waited days for her arrival.

Before posing for pictures and talking with reporters, Carey - in a low-cut, mid-thigh length silver sequined dress - greeted and chatted with the fans on the street. Once inside the store, she seemed to work hard to make meaningful connections in the brief time she spent with the 400-plus fans who got autographs.

"I love meeting fans face-to-face when I can," Carey said. "There's something about somebody just connecting with you musically, and knowing that I've written a song that has touched them, that's invaluable to me."

This week marks the release of a special-edition version of Carey's latest CD, called, "The Emancipation of Mimi: Ultra Platinum Edition," with four additional tracks not on the original release, including the just-released single "Don't Forget About Us." It's already No. 20 on this week's Billboard magazine Hot 100 chart.

The previous single, "Shake it Off," is still No. 9. After a long run of 32 weeks, the chart-topping "We Belong Together" hangs tough at No. 26.

Being on top of the charts "is an amazing feeling" and a "validating experience," Carey said.

And despite "Glitter," Carey is even talking about getting back into film acting - even if she isn't saying much just yet.

"I'll talk to you about all that soon," she said, laughing.

"There'll only be 3,000 of them and while they're supposed to be for kids, they're likely to become instant collectors' items," an insider tells us.

Mariah Wins Big, Compliments Mary J. Blige at Vibe Awards // 3:32 PM EST Updated by Liron

Seriously, don't call it a comeback.

"In the immortal words of LL Cool J, 'I've been here for years,' " Mariah Carey said backstage at the Vibe Awards on Saturday, where the singer won four trophies, including Album of the Year for The Emancipation of Mimi, her smash rebound after the relatively disappointing Glitter (2001) and Charmbracelet (2002). "If they want to say 'comeback,' that's cool, [but] I've been making music my whole life. I started singing when I was four years old. I will make music forever; that's what I do."

Carey was the night's only multiple winner, also taking home awards for Artist of the Year, R&B Voice of the Year and Best R&B Song for "We Belong Together." And while she described the sweep as rewarding, she was just as excited to see another R&B singer honored with the V Legend Award.

"I was supposed to be in my trailer getting a touch-up, which I desperately needed, but I had to come out and see Mary," Carey said of Miss Blige. "I was so proud and happy for her that she was receiving the legend award because she's a true person and real artist."

Mariah Carey, Teen People's "Artist of the Year" // 12:16 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani, The Killers, Green Day, Shakira, 50 Cent and Kelly Clarkson - they dominated the charts and ruled 2005. Teen People got their biggest celebrity fans to tell you why these superstars rocked all year long.

    Mariah Carey by Jermaine Dupri

I first met Mariah Carey years ago, when we were both on Columbia Records and I was this hot little producer. She was more talkative than I was; I was kind of nervous being around her. What impressed me about her was that she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted to do it. She's still like that. Vocally, she knows exactly where she's going. She's like a Jedi master - we have yet to hear all the octaves Mariah can sing!

When I was in the studio with Mariah working on The Emancipation of Mimi, everybody asked me how [I could get her to] compete with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. And I was like, "Why are we even having this conversation?" They can't compete with her because they look up to her! The original is back! She put songstress divas on the map. And "We Belong Together" [which Jermaine coproduced] is the biggest record of my life, and it only took a day to do, start to finish. To do a record that big, that quickly, says a lot about Mariah.

This year, she came back and picked up her crown. She's a great, loving person with a really warm heart. She's always concerned about other people's feelings, even when she shouldn't be. And she's the diva of all divas - although she's not what you'd call [an ordinary] person, she is very cool and down-to-earth. A year or two ago, people were calling me asking, "Is Mariah crazy? How do you feel about her losing her mind?" And all those people who said bad things about Mariah, well, they're trying to get an interview with her now! I was sick of people dissing my friend, so I'm really happy to be talking about her now as one of the Artists of the Year.

Mariah On Fire // 4:02 AM EST Updated by Lynn

This is the extremely steamy new vid from Mariah Carey.

The promo - for December 12 release Don't Forget About Us - got Malaysian censors so hot under collar they banned it.

As our exclusive stills show, it features some seriously raunchy shots of the super-sexy 35-year-old.

We see a very-scantily-clad Mariah writhing on the floor and getting up close and very personal with a mystery hunk in a swimming pool.

The amazing video, shot by Paul Hunter, was inspired by Marilyn Monroe's unfinished last movie Something's Got To Give.

The singer, who owns Marilyn's piano, told us: "I'm a big fan of Marilyn Monroe. The pool scene in the video is in honour and homage to her."

--The 4-disc Live 8 set featuring 2 of Mariah's 3 performances, "Make It Happen" and "Hero," is out on DVD Tuesday, November 8th. Amazon.com lists Mariah's performances among the highlights and calls her set a "showy turn."

--Download a video clip of Mariah talking about Bob Geldolf and last summer's Live 8. This was one of the clips shown during the Nov. 3rd MTV Europe Music Awards.

--Songwriter turned singer Ne-Yo is subjected to a Q&A by VIBE.com. In reply to "What was the last CD you actually bought?" he says, "Mariah Carey’s Emancipation of Mimi. There's a lot of really good songs on there."

--Recently on the Maury Povich Show, a guest complained his girlfriend never looked good, that she worked in a pizza shop and was always smelling like pizza and stuff so he wanted her to get a make-over on the show. When Maury asked what kind of change he would like to see, he replied, "I want her to look like a model... like Mariah Carey, 'cause "We Belong Together".

--Mariah places at #3 with 2,938 votes (or 17% of total votes) in AOL UK's Fashion Police poll for the blue dress she wore on Halloween. Her dress is described as "Looking like it's come straight off the back of a van, Mariah's nylon nightie gets one last airing." Camilla Parker Bowles currently leads the poll with 4,240 (25%), Julie Goodyear is 2nd with 3,861 (22%), followed by Annie Lennox/Dave Stewart with 2,924 (17%).

--For all the Mariah wannabe-stylists! Virtually dress Mariah up by clicking here. Enjoy!

--On Friday's The Ellen DeGeneres show, a California Pizza Kitchen waitress was featured on the show. She and Ellen did some work with her job, including delivering pizzas to unexpected patrons. On the way to the prospective houses, they were lip-synching to various songs on the radio and one of the songs was Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together!" It was pretty funny that they both were singing to her song (trying to make the high notes and remember the song and all) and the waitress was even featured on the Ellen Show where the music she entered the show was Mariah's "We Belong Together"!

--On the latest Australian Idol contest, 2 contestants have performed Mariah's songs. As previously mentioned, Emily Williams sang "Hero", and is currently in the top 4. She also sang "Make It Happen" at the beginning of the finals. Another contestant, Anne Robertson, sang "Open Arms" a few weeks back. She came 6th, being voted off 2 weeks ago.

Mariah Gives Unwanted Fur Coats To PETA? // 9:58 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Watch out for some fabulously dressed homeless people - care of Mariah Carey. The prancing popstress took a break from her European tour promoting her multiplatinum disc "The Emancipation of Mimi" to perform in Russia at the birthday party of an anonymous gazillionaire kleptocrat. The tycoon gave her dozens of unwanted fur coats in addition to a seven-figure fee. She doesn't wear fur, so she gave the pelts to PETA to distribute to the homeless, sources say. Here's hoping that animal-rights activists don't add to the homeless fur-wearers' woes by beating them up for donning the stoles.

Mariah Reconfigures Hawaii Concert Seating, Ticket Sales Postponed Until Nov. 13 // 7:41 AM EST Updated by Lynn

    Mariah Carey In Concert
On sale postponed until Sunday Nov. 13, 2005, 9:00 a.m. HST

Due to overwhelming interest … Mariah Carey's management has asked we postpone the on-sale dates of her December 10th and 12th at the University of Hawaii's Stan Sheriff Center. The performance dates will remain the same.

The postponement allows time for the reconfiguration of the seating of the Stan Sheriff Center to accommodate her new "in the round" performance. Mariah sees the unique design of the Stan Sheriff Center as chance to have more intimate contact with her audience. The one of a kind … "in the round" performance … on a custom stage … makes every seat in the house … a truly once in a life time fan experience.

By naming her album The Emancipation of Mimi and referencing "Mimi", a nickname only used by those closest to her … she is inviting fans into her life. Her "in the round" performance brings that theme to her new tour and directly to her fans… in performance.

Mariah Emancipated, Again // 6:46 PM EST Updated by Lynn

Will fans buy the same album with four new songs?

Even after Mariah Carey put out The Emancipation of Mimi, which went on to sell 4 million copies and become the second-best-selling album of 2005, she kept going back into the studio. So on November 15th, Carey is putting her album out again with four new tracks -- as did 50 Cent and the Killers, who revamped hot albums and saw them shoot back up the charts. "We came up with a couple of songs that I wanted to put out," says Antonio "LA" Reid, chairman of Carey's label, Island Def Jam. "My idea was to continue to create demand for the music."

The Emancipation of Mimi -- Ultra Platinum Edition includes the single "Don't Forget About Us," co-produced by Jermaine Dupri; a remix of "We Belong Together," featuring Jadakiss and Styles P.; the Twista collaboration "So Lonely (One and Only Part 2)," with a new verse by Carey; and the midtempo "Making It Last All Night (What It Do)" featuring Dupri. (A limited-edition version is also available with a bonus DVD of videos.)

Labels have been searching for quick sales boosts for the past five years, when revenues began a steady decline; CD sales are down ten percent so far this year. "If they can take an album that's been successful and add a couple of songs to it, there's a chance there's a Mariah Carey fan going, 'I've got to get this one too,'" says Todd Cavanah, program director for Chicago's B96.3, which put Carey's new "Don't Forget About Us" into heavy rotation.

The strategy paid off for 50 Cent, whose The Massacre jumped from Number Thirty-five to Number Two on the Billboard charts in September, after he released a special edition with videos. In August, the Killers' rereleased Hot Fuss shot from Number Twenty-nine to Number Eleven. Elton John is reissuing 2004's Peachtree Road on November 22nd, with a live DVD and three new songs, and Beck will put out a remixed version of Guero on December 13th. "Music's popularity is at an all-time high, while we're in a business that seems to suffer from CD sales," Reid says. "It's really for the revival and the greater good of our business."

News Tidbits // 7:25 AM EST Updated by Lynn

--It's not always easy living up to the hype when you're one of Jay-Z's hand-picked protégés, but Rihanna has been wearing that title well, even giving Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" a run for #1 (Mariah took the title, nabbing the #1 spot for 13 weeks, but "Pon de Replay" stayed hot on its heels at #2). Going up against her idol, she says, has been one of the coolest things that has happened since her arrival on the scene. "I looked up to [Mariah] a lot and I still do. I admire her as an artist, and to [compete with her] was a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life," she said.

--In the December 2005 issue of Elle UK, when asked what her album of the year is, Victoria Beckham replies, "Definitely Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi. I've never been a huge Mariah fan, but I was really impressed by this."

--Michael Jackson is close to completing his charity single for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, his spokeswoman Raymone Bain has said. He is using global satellite and phone connections to work with the 12 participating artists from his base in the Middle East. Mariah Carey, R Kelly, James Brown, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z are among the artists appearing on the track. Ms Bain said Jackson had rewritten the song several times and that it was no longer titled "From the Bottom of My Heart." BBC UK reports.

--Yahoo! Music has long been the #1 online destination for consumers to view music video. On Nov. 1, Yahoo! took an even bigger step forward in cementing that reputation by introducing its new Video Premiere program, kicking off with the latest from Mariah Carey—who we've heard is quite popular. Jay Frank, Yahoo! Music's head of Programming and Label Relations says, "Earlier this summer, another Mariah Carey video got streamed two million times during the first 48 hours. So the record labels, artists and artist management are certainly finding out that with the right video, Yahoo! can be far more impactful for premieres than any other outlet they have."

--Which busty beauty has the best cleavage? Mariah makes In Touch Weekly's list of the best cleavage at #8. Jessica Simpson tops the list, Selma Hayek is second, followed by Carmen Electra. Access Hollywood has the complete list.

Mariah Carey - World Exclusive K9 Magazine Interview // 8:37 AM EST Updated by Lynn

Hello Mariah, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us

Tell us about your pets. Names, breeds and ages.

My pet's name is Jack. He's a Jack Russell who can swim underwater, jump four feet in the air and he is eternally two years old. His full name is Jackson P. Mutley.

    Why the full name?
(Laughs) It's kind of a long story. The name evolved overtime. I don't even know what the P stands for but I guess you can imagine. I don't know.

When did your interest in pets/animals begin and how long have you been a pet owner.
Well my mom always had pets and so there were always animals around and there's never been a time in my life where I didn't have a pet. I had dogs and cats and even birds. My mom's parrot bit me (laughs) and he used to torment me by saying my name like my mother would when for example she was calling me to come downstairs. So in the middle of the night the bird would be shrieking "Mariah!".

Your latest album "The Emancipation Of Mimi" has had some fantastic reviews and has been a huge success, what would you say is your favourite track from the album and why?
I have a lot of different favourite tracks because they're all representative of different moods but I really love "Shake It Off". Obviously, "We Belong Together" has a special significance for me - you know just being the success that it has been and the emotional vibe in the song. I would also say that my favourite song is "Fly Like A Bird" which is the last song on the album and a favourite because it has a very spiritual message and it's close to my heart.

We've heard your favourite childhood memories are various junior high antics, can you recall a specific moment which you would like to tell our readers?
Well, one time I was 12 years old I dyed my hair orange by mistake and it looked really hideous. My hair was blonde when I was little but it started getting darker so I started using Sun in which is supposed to bring out in the highlights in your hair. However, I didn't know about the whole technical side of hair colouring as I hadn't been to beauty school yet.

Anyway, it made my hair kind of orange, so then I tried to correct the colour and went to the store with my friend to buy a golden blonde dye. I didn't realise though that anything that says gold means it's a red base! So I used this dye and was blow drying my hair with an orange blow dryer when my friend yelled "Your hair is the colour of the blow dryer!"

I then walked outside and there was this kid there that I had a crush on and he was like "What happened to your hair?" It was a totally a bleak moment. On top of that I had also shaved my eyebrows because I didn't know that you were supposed to tweeze them and the only make up I really had was reject stuff from my mother so I had no eyebrows, hideous make-up with blue eyeliner and orange hair - not a good look (laughs).

In which one way do you believe dogs to be a superor life from humans?
    They don't judge others.

Will you ever bring Jack to London?
I would love to but there are rules about quarantine for animals and I don't think that it'd be right to do that to him. It's 6 months - I'd never do that to him.

Does Jack ever bite or chew your shoes?
Jack doesn't bite shoes - he's very smart and knows better than that.

You've received numerous prestigious awards over the years including two Grammy's, 8 American Music awards and were also named "World's Best Selling Female Artist Of The Millenium" which must have been a huge moment. How did you feel when you received your very first award and what were the thoughts which went through your mind when your name was called?
I don't think I was fully aware of that moment because so much was going on and I didn't really take it in. I knew that it was a big deal but it just happened so fast and I was really nervous too.

It was said some time ago on a well known British sitcom that the perfect woman have Kylie Minogue's bum, Claudia Schiffer's legs and Cindy Crawford's face. Using this logic, can you please create your own perfect fantasy dog?
There is no better dog than Jack. How could you make a dog better than Jack! (laughs)

Tell us about the Relly Award that Jack was recently nominated for?
Well Jack was nominated for this Relly Award on the Regis and Kelly show for Best Non-Human guest. The nominees were Chewbacca, Miss Piggy, Barney, a two headed albino snake and my dog Jack. I thought that it was so cool that Jack was being nominated for an award and that people all over the world were finally going to be able to see the splendour of him. So there I was being so excited for Jack and then all of a sudden I found out that Miss Piggy won the award! I'm really seriously demanding a recount because I think that some trickery went on!!! (Laughs)

What did Jack do when he was on the show?
Well Jack was with me for an interview. He's like a person and he just knows when the cameras go on. He starts hamming it up and jumping up and down. On Regis and Kelly his personality just shone though, I think that when the viewers saw him on the show they realised that he was special - I mean he received a nomination against mainly fictitious characters. He was the only real animal - other than the 2 headed snake.

Jack's used to the limelight though and he loves being on set. He's actually been in quite a few of my videos including "DreamLover", "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "Always Be My Baby", "Honey", "Thank God I Found You", "Against All Odds" and "Boy I Need You". He loves walking around the wardrobe department, he likes the dog equivalent of hair and make-up (grooming). He is a star.

Which do you prefer and why?
Big dogs or little dogs - That's what I love about Jack. He's like a big dog in a small dog's body. Also he's very strong and very muscular but small enough that he can lie in a bed and small enough that I can take him out with me easily.

Pedigree dogs or x breeds - It really depends on the dog.

Lead and collar or dog running free - Dog running free but the problem is my dog gets a little excited (laughs) and he needs to have his harness on all the time because you don't want him to choke with the collar. He happily wears the harness and likes it so if he gets carried away or if he stays in the pool to long it'll help us get him out.

What is your earliest memory of dogs?
When I was little my parents were breeding Dobermans and when I was about four the dog had puppies. I remember all the different puppies. My parents gave the puppies away but kept one which we called Bruno.

    Describe the last time you...
Had to shout at your pet - I try not to shout at him.
Laughed out loud because of your petTrained your pet to do something new - Well we're working on him being more gentle when I hand him a treat. (He got used to me accepting the fact that he's impatient when he wants a treat, and you know, he's got some sharp teeth). He's just learning to calm down and allow me to give him the treat nicely otherwise he's not going to get it. He's doing ok too but it depends on his mood...

What is it about Jack's personality that makes him so special?
He is almost like a person, we have this thing where we say Jack is a person because it's like he'll just hang out and want to be almost a part of the conversation - just sitting around and watching. He's a very spiritual animal, he has a lot of zest and he's fun. In fact he's almost like a circus dog with all the tricks that he does. The other side of him is that when he's laying down and you pet him he's very loving. He's a good dog, a good boy.

What is Jack's favourite toy, activity, game?
Jack is a swimmer so he gets obsessed with anything to do with water even if I'm taking a shower he'll try to knock on the door and come and stand in the shower. If I'm running a bath all of a sudden I'll hear a spash and Jack will have jumped into the tub! It's something that's been happening for years and it's like "Jack's in the tub again!" and there he is swimming around!

His favourite toy is the jet inside the pool - like the jets you find in pools and hot tubs. He treats that as his toy and continuously dives under the water and tries to bite the water coming out of the jet. As far as other toys go you can't get Jack anything that's too easy to rip apart because he's got very strong teeth. He has a toy steak. It's a fake looking T-bone that's really tough to rip apart. It has lasted a while but I think that it's finally on the way out.

    What about Jack's bad habits?
Well... Lately he's been sneaking out of the gate. There's a railing on the side of the kitchen in the house in Los Angeles and I thought that I could leave him out there so that he could run free in this little area - and he was really enjoying himself running after little geckos and stuff. Then one day I was out in the back and I see Jack coming out of nowhere and I realise that he had snuck under the fence and run straight for the pool and jumped in. So now I can't let him stay out there anymore because there are coyotes and things. Instead he's given supervised pool time.

    Who is your hero?
I thought this was about dogs? Ok Jack's my hero.

Would you describe Jack as a "people-dog"?
Definitely. He loves people. Sometimes he plays rough as he grew up with Doberman Pinchers and thinks that he's a bigger dog than he is.

    Finish the following sentence:
    My dog is
    .... The best!

Marilyn Monroe Inspires Mariah To Shed Clothes For New Video // 12:14 AM EST Updated by Liron

Carey teamed again with director Paul Hunter for 'Don't Forget About Us' clip.

Mariah Carey doesn't want you to forget about her — which is why she's re-releasing her album The Emancipation of Mimi with extra tracks, including her latest single, "Don't Forget About Us," the video for which she just shot in Los Angeles with director Paul Hunter. The clip is an homage to her fans, first loves and, oddly enough, Marilyn Monroe.

First, the fans. Carey says she could have saved the new music that's going to be on the re-release of "Mimi" (see "Mariah Carey Emancipating Mimi Again, With Bonus Tracks"), but that would mean we'd be waiting for a least "a couple of years" before we'd get to hear anything on a new album, and where's the fun in that?

Her label head, L.A. Reid, loved "Don't Forget About Us" so much, she said, that he convinced her to speed up the process and get a few tracks out now. (In addition to "Don't Forget About Us," there's also three other new songs: "What It Look Like," "So Lonely [One and Only Part 2]" and a remix of "We Belong Together" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P.) A further nod to the fans are secret messages on a wall in the video for "Don't Forget About Us," "like we did in 'Shake It Off,' " she said, that only the diehard can decipher. "See if they figure it out! It's a sort of thank you to the fans."

The secret messages wouldn't be that much fun, though, if they didn't connect to something relatable, and in this case, it's true love. "It's basically a love song, saying to somebody, 'There was something good, don't forget about it!' " Carey explained.

"Each song has, not necessarily a different message, but a different mood, a different feeling," she continued. "It evokes something different depending on who listens to it and at what time. 'Don't Forget About Us' could give you a good, happy memory, or you could be miserable, crying, listening to it over and over. All in all, I think it's good to have music you can live vicariously through, and that's what a lot of people have told me this record has been for them."

Carey picked Hunter to helm the clip, after last teaming up with him on 1997's "Honey," which she calls one of her favorite videos. "I was always like, 'I wish I could do something like "Honey" again,' " she said. So together they dreamed up scenarios where Carey luxuriates in her home, on a beach, in a car and on a soccer field, as she reminisces about the one who got away, interspersed with flashbacks of happier times, as the onetime couple canoodles in their former hangouts. One such scene takes place in a pool, as an older — and possibly nude — Mariah sings with one leg up on the edge, as a younger, swimsuited Mariah frolics with her beau in flashbacks.

"That shot was totally and completely inspired by 'Something's Got to Give,' Marilyn Monroe's last movie that never got finished," she explained. "It's an homage to her, because I've never seen anyone re-create it. So many people have emulated so many of Marilyn's classic moments, but it's just that I'm a big fan of hers, and I thought it was really pretty at night with the pool. No one could ever be as fabulous as Marilyn was, but it's in honor and homage to her."

Carey will open the American Music Awards with her first live performance of "Don't Forget About Us" on November 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Midas Touch // 12:54 AM EST Updated by Liron

Below are excerpts from Billboard's feature article about Jermaine Dupri. The article includes quotes from Mariah:

Jermaine Dupri has been involved with countless hits, but none might be as satisfying as “I Think They Like Me,” Dem Franchise Boyz’s breakout smash. In this issue, the song is No. 6 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

At first glance, No. 6 may seem like small potatoes to a guy like Dupri. After all, he became the youngest-charting producer in music history at the age of 14. He introduced such R&B acts as TLC, Jagged Edge and Xscape to the music world. During the past two years, his Midas touch revived the career of Mariah Carey and generated multiple hit singles for Usher and Bow Wow. In September, no fewer than four singles he produced were in the top 10 of the R&B/hip-hop chart.

But Dem Franchise Boyz are special to Dupri, because they mark his first real hit as president of Virgin Records’ urban division. Forget about emancipating Mimi. Dupri is going for a real coup: turning Virgin Records into a powerhouse for urban hits.

    (...)

Right now though, after nearly a year that has not quite yet delivered on his promise, and for a label that has not had even a top 10 urban chart hit since Carey’s “Loverboy” in 2001, Dem Franchise Boyz have got to be looking pretty good.

Dupri may be trying to make it as an exec, but any discussion of his career must start with his impressive production rיsumי.

He has been behind the boards for 17 No. 1 R&B/hip-hop singles. In 2005 alone, from Aug. 27 to Sept. 17, for four straight weeks, there were four Dupri-produced singles in the top 10 of the R&B/hip-hop chart (two each for Carey and Bow Wow). Carey revived her career with the first four singles from her smash album, “The Emancipation of Mimi.”

“I don’t know if people really understand how prolific he is,” Carey says. “JD is one of the few examples of the modern-day producer with staying power.”
Bow Wow adds, “JD is a great songwriter and producer, and his energy and creativity is unlike any other. He really gets to know the artists that he works with, and that’s why his songs fit so perfectly.”
Usher, who collaborated with Dupri on three songs from his 2004 multiplatinum “Confessions” album, also believes that if anyone can make an impact at Virgin, it is Dupri.

    (...)

“Virgin is incredibly lucky to have Jermaine as president,” Carey says. “JD knows how to package music as well as make it. If he were running Virgin when I was there, it would definitely have been different. JD would have been smart enough to keep the project on track. Rather than rush out ‘Loverboy’ [from Carey’s Sony 2001 release, “Glitter”], he would have said, ‘I think we should go back in the studio, put our heads together and write a great Mariah Carey first single.’ ” (In January 2002, Virgin Records terminated its recording contract with Carey and agreed to pay her $28 million to leave the label.)
