Celebrities and Designers Take a Seat for Chairs for Charity // 6:35 PM EST Updated by Maggie

How do you help combat homelessness in New York City? Six celebrities and designers have taken a stand by participating in Minwax® CHAIRS FOR CHARITY, a design event and online auction to benefit Furnish a Future, a program of The Partnership for the Homeless. All six expressed their creativity by designing and decorating a chair in their own signature style using wood stains and finishes. From a whimsical blue "anchor chair" for television host Meredith Vieira, to a powerful red, white and blue New York Giants chair covered with 30 team autographs, the unique designs express the personality and creativity of an exceptional group.

Accepting the creative challenge were The Honorable Michael R. Bloomberg, mayor of New York City, with designer Jamie Drake; Grammy Award-Winning singer Mariah Carey, with designer Mario Buatta; NBC's "Today" show host Meredith Vieira, with designer Chris Madden; tennis star Venus Williams; The New York Giants, and NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler.
All of the participants donated their time and expertise to make the project a success, and from the look of the chairs, many of which are being finished to their specifications in the Minwax® design workshops, they expressed themselves with color and flair. The designs include:

-Mayor Bloomberg and Jamie Drake's striking tribute to the Big Apple, stained in official colors blue and orange, and incorporating the Seal of the City of New York.
-Pop superstar Mariah Carey's eye-popping lavender balloon chair, interpreted by Mario Buatta.
-Meredith Vieira's nautical "anchor" chair interpreted in breezy blues by Chris Madden.
-Tennis great Venus Williams' dramatic period chair in gleaming ebony and orange silk.
-NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler's edgy racing stripe and checkered flag rendition.
- A bold and colorful autographed chair from one of the country's top sports teams: The New York Giants.

Each chair makes a design statement that's uniquely personal and very collectible. Minwax®, the leading manufacturer of wood finishing and wood care products, is underwriting the project.

Mariah to Release Two Albums in 2007 // 8:34 PM EST Updated by Maggie

Universal Music Group Chief Executive Doug Morris said on Tuesday the world's largest music company will post its best ever revenue and profit in 2007 thanks to new releases from its top-selling artists.

Morris said Universal and other music companies are also starting to see new revenue streams from digital sources, including Apple's iTunes online music service and iPod digital media player, and mobile phone ringtones.

"I think that next year we're going to have our best year," he said at the Reuters Media Summit in New York. "I think our revenues and our profits will be the best we've ever had."

Morris said Universal Music, owned by French media giant Vivendi (VIV.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), will benefit hugely from new albums from Eminem, 50 Cent and two albums from Mariah Carey.

"You can see there are myriad streams of income starting to come into the record companies," said Morris. "We're going to make money from MySpace, we're going to make money from YouTube, we're going to make money from Zune...we will make tremendous amount of money from telephones."

Mariah-Oh-Meter: Rate Her Look! // 1:59 AM EST Updated by Casey

As other divas change their looks -- Britney, Whitney, Courtney -- you can always count on Mariah for her signature second-skin dresses and larger-than-life hairdos. At the Make-A-Wish Foundation gala in Beverly Hills this weekend, Mariah Carey turned up to be honored in a low-cut maroon micro-mini and sky-high metallic stilletos. On a scale of One being Congresswoman conservative, and Ten being ready for her video vixen close-up, we'd give this look a 7. Considering that it's a charity benefitting children, a longer hemline and higher neckline would be a lot more kid-friendly! Tell us: On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate Mariah's oh-factor in this look?

Mariah Carey snubbed at another awards show // 2:12 AM EST Updated by Casey

Pop diva Mariah Carey, whose commercial success has not translated into awards show acclaim, was snubbed at the American Music Awards on Tuesday, despite scoring three nominations.

The big winners this year were the Los Angeles funk band Black Eyed Peas, who won all three categories in which they were nominated. Veteran funk-rock combo the Red Hot Chili Peppers won two awards. Canadian rock band Nickelback, another three-time nominee, won a single award.

Carey, 36, who was nominated for four awards last year and won one, was a no-show. She went zero for six in 1997.

No-show winners are a tradition at this event. The Peas and the Peppers sent in acceptance speeches from Costa Rica and London, respectively. Other MIA acts included rapper Eminem (favorite male rap/hip-hop artist), husband-and-wife country stars Faith Hill (female country artist) and Tim McGraw (country album), Toby Keith (male country artist), and Colombian bombshell Shakira (Latin artist).

Country trio Rascal Flatts, soul diva Mary J. Blige, and former "American Idol" champion Kelly Clarkson also won two awards apiece. Rascal Flatts and Blige attended, Clarkson did not.

The American Music Awards are a more populist version of the Grammys, which are determined by music industry insiders and will take place in February.

The Black Eyed Peas won for favorite group in both the rap/hip-hop and soul/R&B categories, and favorite rap/hip-hop album for "Monkey Business." The Red Hot Chili Peppers won for favorite pop/rock group and alternative music artist.

Nickelback won for favorite pop/rock album with "All the Right Reasons," a chart-topping effort that was released just over a year ago. Frontman Chad Kroeger said he thought the Chili Peppers were going "to clean the house tonight."

Rascal Flatts were named favorite country group, and also won the Text-In Award, determined by text messages sent by the show's viewers. Blige won for favorite female artist and favorite album ("The Breakthrough"), both in the soul/R&B categories. Clarkson won for favorite female pop/rock artist and favorite adult contemporary artist.

Actor Jamie Foxx picked up a statuette -- for favorite soul/R&B male artist -- to add to the Academy Award he won last year for his role as Ray Charles in "Ray."

"This means a lot more than you think," said Foxx, accompanied by his biological mother, whom he said he had not seen in years.

Another "American Idol" victor, Carrie Underwood, won the prize for breakthrough artist.

Performers included Gwen Stefani, who yodeled her way through a brand new song, "Wind It Up"; and country music outcasts the Dixie Chicks, who received loud applause for their socially conscious tune "Easy Silence." Veteran pop artist Lionel Richie brought the Shrine Auditorium crowd to its feet when he dusted off his '80s hit "All Night Long."

The event at the Shrine Auditorium was hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel. Nominees are drawn from top acts determined by retail sales and radio airplay, while winners are voted on by a random poll of about 20,000 record-buyers.

Mariah Mentions
--Filmmaker Lee Daniels mentioned Mariah in an interview for About Gay Life. Below is an excerpt.

Do you see yourself as a career-changer? Halle [Berry] gets an Oscar from one of your films; Mo'nique takes her first dramatic role; Cuba Gooding, Jr. is turned into a sex-symbol...

Because I'm such an underdog in the system, I identify with and understand other underdogs.

Halle was an underdog, Cuba was an underdog and Mariah, the lead in my new film Tennessee, is an underdog. We underdogs stick together because we have a connection. It's invigorating and inspiring taking a chance on people.

--Mark Feehily of the band Westlife mentioned Mariah in a recent interview for THE BOX in the UK. Feehily said he was starstruck the first time he met MC. Also, Feehily added that he listened to Mariah's music all the time and wanted her to be his sister.

--From United Press International: In its lawsuit, Universal called MySpace, owned by News Group, a "virtual warehouse" of pirated works from some of the company's best known artists, including U2 and Mariah Carey, the Los Angeles Times said.

--From New York Daily News: [Clay] Aiken retained his own chaste image, but he received far worse treatment from radio. His cover of Badfinger's "Without You," spent only two weeks on Billboard's adult contemporary list, struggling to 28 (of 30). One problem with this song: It has been a hit too often, with earlier versions around by everyone from Harry Nilsson to Mariah Carey.

--From News-Leader.com: There's also new sound with the fire-shooting fountains at Town Square including "Rocky Mountain Way" by Joe Walsh and Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas [Is You]."

--From Go Travel Insurance: Celebrity spotters will also be interested to know that in the last few decades it (Aspen, Colorado) has become the winter playground for the rich and famous, with part-time inhabitants including Mariah Carey, Kevin Costner and Don Henley of the Eagles.

How do you solve a problem like Mariah? // 9:33 PM EST Updated by Casey

Hollywood-based XL Video has selected Barco LED, projection and image processing equipment as the centerpiece of Mariah Carey’s current “The Adventures of Mimi” tour. Barco gear includes four movable LED screens composed of ILITE 10 tiles, and thousands of Barco MIPIX modules for the stage’s two architectural pieces (a huge “M” that frames the stage, plus a flying “O” ring that masks the smallest ILITE screen).

To complete the Barco equipment array, twin ENCORE Video Processors provide 12 layers of HD video that can be routed to any LED wall or projection screen. However, in this unique concert configuration, the standard ENCORE Controller is replaced by a custom interface designed by Portland-based Control Freak Systems.

Using DMX protocol, ENCORE’s image processing tools and all individual video layers can be assigned to any dimmer on the GrandMA console. With the same ease as fading up a light, the LD can size, position, color correct and fade any layer, and perform completely synchronous video-plus-lighting moves.

Mariah Receives Wish Icon Award // 1:47 AM EST Updated by Casey

Mariah received the Make-A-Wish Foundation's Wish Icon Award at the seventh annual Make-A-Wish Foundation ceremony held at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Hollywood on Friday, November 17th.

Kelli Seely, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles said, "We are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize such prominent members of our community for their involvement in supporting wish fulfillment for children and their families. It is particularly exciting to honor Mariah Carey with the Wish Icon award for her extraordinary generosity and her many wish granting achievements throughout her career, those we are honoring tonight have brightened the lives of many children and the family members who love them."

In addition to her multi-award winning career as a performer and songwriter, Mariah has also been a committed volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She has personally granted dozens of wishes for children from across the country. Many children have taken Mariah's place at music awards shows, thanks to her generosity. Aguilera Acknowledges Mariah's Voice // 11:16 AM EST Updated by Casey

In the current issue of Blender, Christina Aguilera is described as "a major-league drama queen." She has feuded with Britney Spears, Eminem, her former managers, and most recently: Mariah Carey.

Aguilera alleged that Carey was "never cool to me" in the June issue of GQ. "One time, we were at a party and I think she got really drunk, and she had just really derogatory things to say to me," Aguilera told the magazine. "But it was at that time that she had that breakdown, so she might have been very medicated."

Carey responded to Aguilera's remarks with a statement released to Access Hollywood. "I had hoped that Christina was in a better place now than the last time I saw her when she showed up uninvited at one of my parties and displayed questionable behavior," Carey told the entertainment news program. "It is sad yet predictable that she would use my name at this time to reinvent past incidents for her promotional gain. It is in my heart to forgive and I will keep her in my prayers."

Access Hollywood gave the final word to Aguilera who responded, "At this point in my life, I do not want any bad energy with anyone. My intentions were not to upset Mariah with any statements that were published or taken out of context. I have all the respect in the world for her."

It appeared Aguilera was ready to end the conflict; however, when asked about Mariah in the August issue of Allure, Christina offered further unpleasant comments. "She hasn't been nice to me, no, but, honestly, I don't want to give her any more attention by even talking about it," Aguilera told the magazine. "Like I said, sometimes honesty is my downfall."

Nevertheless, during an interview for its latest issue, Blender brings up Mariah’s name, but Christina doesn’t take the bait. "She has an incredible voice," Aguilera tells the magazine.

Perhaps she grew tired of harboring ill will.

Mariah Mentions
--Yesterday on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Ellen phoned a fan who had requested an interview. The fan asked, "Who is your idol?" Jokingly, DeGeneres responded, "Abe Lincoln." Then, Ellen declared, "If not Mariah Carey, Johnny Carson."

--Last Wednesday, Mariah was the answer to a $1,200 "Jeopardy!" question from a category called "The Sopranos."

"Of her 1994 Christmas CD, USA Today said, this 'Vision of Love' diva had a soprano that could unhinge St. Peter's Gate."

--From Sunderland Today: Little Daniel Haley is taking it all in his stride as he lives the showbiz lifestyle as a wise-cracking presenter on the Channel 4 teatime show. The 11-year-old is collecting an unforgettable scrapbook of the A-list stars he has rubbed shoulders with every week, including a private audience with diva Mariah Carey. "I thought it would be a one-off, but we got a call to come back down and he has been doing it now for two years. He even got invited into Mariah Carey's dressing room, while I waited outside," says mum Julie.

--From AME Info: It started with pop stars. They went to court fighting for their online names. Everyone, from Madonna to Britney Spears, won their cases and appeared on the Net, their flashy Web presences promoting their brands. It soon became apparent these sites were more than glossy catalogs of bios, pictures, and sound samples. They became direct lines to the stars' audiences. Mariah Carey went online and spoke of her depression. Others followed suit, and pop stars became accessible in a new way.

--From Ann Coulter - Yahoo! News: (President Bush) He made an Arab-American, Spencer Abraham, secretary of energy; a Cuban-American, Carlos Gutierrez, secretary of commerce; an Asian-American, Elaine Chao, secretary of labor; and a retarded-American, Norman Mineta, secretary of transportation. It was as if Mariah Carey and Tiger Woods had children and they all joined the Bush Cabinet.

--From E! Online: According to her recent interview in W, [Janet] Jackson was set to play "a waitress, a heavyset girl and just a beautiful soul" in a film called Tennessee. "But three days before I was supposed to start rehearsals," Jackson said, "they called and told me they were going to push it back to the new year." Mariah Carey has since landed the role, and the movie remains in preproduction.

--From Realfootball365.com: The Steelers, defenseless? That would be like Mariah Carey unable to hit high notes, or Derek Jeter having to use a dating service.

--From TMZ.com: Mariah Carey, Vanessa Minnillo, and now ... Jessica Biel? Apparently, Derek Jeter has snagged yet another high-profile beauty: the Yankee captain and "The Illusionist" star Biel were spotted at Hollywood celeb-boite Hyde Tuesday night.

--From ChristianPost.com: Talent grips us. We are overtaken by the beauty of Michelangelo’s sculpture, riveted by Mariah Carey’s angelic voice, doubled over in laughter by the comedy of Robin Williams, and captivated by the on screen performances of Denzel Washington.

--From Blogcritics.org: Just to pick two extremely disparate voices from random, the vocal formants of Mariah Carey are very different from, say, James Earl Jones, which is why the timbre of their voices sound so different.

News Tidbits
--Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is currently #1 on the iTunes Holiday Top Songs chart. Click here to purchase and download the track!

--Yahoo! Music UK reports: For the first time the record industry will not control what does and doesn't count as a "hit". In the past year golden oldies from the likes of Mariah Carey and Kate Bush have charged into the iTunes Top 10 but did not register on the singles chart - a situation that will not exist next year.

--Mariah's version of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing/Gloria (In Excelsis Deo)" is included on volume 3 of the "Now That's What I Call Christmas!" series. The 2-disc collection is now available in stores and can be purchased online at Amazon.com.

--The Hilton Harmony Piano was launched at the GRAMMY Awards in Los Angeles, before being sent on a road tour. The piano is decorated with more than 75 signatures collected in the name of music education. Mariah is among the artists who have signed. The grand piano is in the midst of a year-long, eight-city U.S. tour, stopping at Hilton properties in San Francisco, Austin, Memphis, Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles. Hilton is donating $1,000 to the GRAMMY Foundation in support of music education for each artist who signs the piano. On the road, the goal will be the same—to get musicians to play a little tune on the instrument and add their names to the signatures. At the end of the tour, the piano will be auctioned off at next year’s GRAMMY Awards show, with proceeds going to the GRAMMY Foundation. Mariah's signature is located on the top panel of the piano. Surrounding it are the signatures of Herbie Hancock, Ellen DeGeneres, and Queen Latifah. Below are photos of Mariah's signature and the piano. Click on each thumbnail for an enlarged view.

Mariah Mentions
--From Las Vegas Sun: A breakdown showed the Las Vegas Strip, with a win of $516.4 million for the month, was down 4.3 percent. While the Barrera-Juarez boxing match and Mariah Carey concert helped, a men's clothing trade show that draws more than 100,000 people was moved from September to August, [Frank] Streshley noted.

--From Jackson Sun: [David] Porter, who was inducted into the National Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, said many records made today were taken from songs written years ago, such as "Dream Lover" by Mariah Carey, and "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" sung by Will Smith.

--From New York Times: About 16 of those long-ago underdogs are expected to gather at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan tonight for [Joe] Torre’s Safe at Home Foundation’s charity dinner. Everyone from Jeter to Mariano Duncan, the second baseman who coined the mantra of “We play today, we win today,” to John Wetteland, the walk-on-the-wild-side closer, are scheduled to be there. With all due respect to Mariah Carey, who is performing at the event, the players want to hear from one another.

--From The Detroit News Online: May-December romances work in the movies but not for movie stars. Jolie and Thornton were sacked with a 20-year age difference, which is to say nothing of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills (26 years), Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter (25 years) or Tommy Mottola and Mariah Carey (21 years). Take note, Ashton and Demi.

Me and Mariah // 1:52 PM EST Updated by Casey

If you have ever had the experience of losing a $7,500 coat that Mariah Carey gave you, you will sympathize with how difficult this past week has been for us. As with so many things these days, the whole chain of events was started off by a wealthy Russian oligarch. A big fan of Mariah's work, he sent her a pair of ludicrously expensive fur coats in a misguided attempt to impress her. Mariah, understandably peeved about receiving dead animals in the mail from some sketchy Russian tycoon, immediately donated the coats to us.

So we did what any sensible person would do and shipped them off to, respectively, Los Angeles and Mongolia. The Los Angeles coat got there OK, and graffiti artist Marcus Suarez is going to be painting anti-fur slogans on the back of that coat so we can use it in protests. But the other coat—which was going to be given to homeless refugees along with hundreds of other cast-off furs—was lost by the brilliant folks over at UPS somewhere between here and Mongolia. Anyway, the happy ending is that UPS is giving us $7,500 for the coat, so Mariah's generosity won't be wasted, and we've got some devious-ass plans for ways to use the money to remind people (both Russian plutocrats and the general public) that fur is dead. So, yeah. Anyway, I thought that was pretty interesting.

Mariah Carey sues concert promoter for axed Hong Kong show // 5:15 AM EST Updated by Casey

Mariah Carey's production company has filed a one million dollar lawsuit against an Asian-based concert promoter for unpaid fees and reimbursements for expenses related to a cancelled Hong Kong show.

The suit alleges that the American pop diva was "greatly looking forward" to performing in the territory, but was forced to cancel the show when promoter ONE Group Investments Private Limited "breached its contractual obligations".

"Regretfully, Ms Carey's production company has been forced to bring legal action to vindicate its rights," the company's Los Angeles-based lawyers Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher said in a statement.

"This is an open-and-shut case for Mariah's company and we are confident that the company will prevail," said the singer's attorney, Orin Snyder.

ONE Group's chief executive Adrian Hobbs hit back.

"We received no reply to get our money back and we would love for the matter to go to court and the facts (to) come out and clearly she had savings by not coming," Hobbs said in an e-mail reply to AFP. He did not say whether he had taken any legal action.

He said: "We would not presume to tell the court an outcome. This is a matter for the court, not arrogant assumptions... ONE Group is confident that we would prevail and they would be ordered to return money paid."

Carey's concert was cancelled two days before it was due to take place on October 28 after her management company, Handprint Entertainment, and ONE Group pulled the plug, with each blaming the other for mishandling the event.

The promoter blamed poor ticket sales -- claiming that just 4,000 of at least 10,000 had been sold -- and also Handprint's specific last-minute "wholly unreasonable" demands.

Handprint at the time blamed One Group for failing to pay outstanding production and artists' fees.

Carey had been booked to play on a harbourside site that hosts occasional outdoor events. Production crews had already begun building the stage when the announcement came.

Carey's cancellation follows the axing of a show by British pop singer Robbie Williams on November 10 due to poor health.

Mariah Sues Hong Kong Promoter // 11:29 PM EST Updated by Casey

Mariah Carey's production company has filed suit against Asia-based concert promoters, ONE Group Investments Private Limited. The diva wants $1 million to reimburse her for expenses related to prepping a cancelled Hong Kong performance.

The suit alleges that Mimi was looking forward to 'shaking it off' in Hong Kong, but was forced to cancel the show when the promoter "breached its contractual obligations." ONE Group claims the diva had poor advance sales and "last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans."

Mariah's attorney says "This is an open-and-shut case for Mariah's company and we are confident that the company will prevail."

Lost In Transit // 11:23 AM EST Updated by Casey

Mariah Carey's bizarre attempt to keep a Mongolian yak herder warm this winter has failed. A Russian oligarch sent Carey two floor-length mink coats after she performed at his birthday earlier this year, but Carey, who doesn't wear fur, donated the coats to PETA. One was kept for protest purposes, but the second coat - sent to Mongolia - was lost by UPS en route. A rep for PETA told Page Six the shipping company will pay $7,500 for the lost coat, which "will buy a lot of paint!" - presumably to be thrown on American women wearing fur.

--Janet Jackson was recently interviewed on the Japanese television show, "Utaban." When asked about the possible duet with Mariah, Jackson responded, "Yes. We're working on it. We're still working on it." Jokingly, one of the hosts asked if there was any room for him on the record. Janet smiled and answered, "No." The other host explained that he was a good dancer. Jackson responded, "Well, then you could be in the video." The host asked, "For real?" Janet laughed and answered, "No." Currently, the interview can be seen on YouTube.

--Singer Stacie Orrico mentioned Mariah during a recent interview with Australia's Channel [V]: "Let's say I'm backstage at a show, and there's, let's say Mariah Carey was walking by or something. And she's not somebody like I've spent a lot of time with. I don't know her. As an artist, on one hand you feel like, okay, I could go and say 'Hi' and she wouldn't think it was as weird as like a fan, because you're like a fellow artist. But then, at the same time you sort of understand what it's like for people to feel like they can use their position to have a reason to talk to you when you sort of just want your space. So, a lot of times it makes you even stay off more, because you sort of understand. You're like, 'Oh, just give them their space'. See, it is kind of a weird thing." The host replied, "Yeah, but you wouldn't want to talk to Mariah Carey, she's crazy anyway. She's a nutball!" Currently, the interview can be seen on YouTube.

--From All Headline News: The slender actress (Cameron Diaz), who is dating pop singer Justin Timberlake, admits she yearns for more curves like Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey. Although she's "ok" with her current body shape, she wishes there was more junk in her trunk.

There could be an awkward moment Friday at the Chelsea Piers when former flames Mariah Carey and Derek Jeter come face to face. Carey is the entertainment at the fourth annual Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation gala. Jeter, who attends his manager's charity event every year, dated Carey briefly in 1998 until he broke it off. He's out to prove Mariah can act // 6:28 AM EST Updated by Casey

Lee Daniels says he's excited that more people will be able to see his film "Shadowboxer," which had a limited theatrical release over the summer.

Daniels' tale, featuring Helen Mirren and Cuba Gooding Jr.as stepmother and stepson who are also contract killers and lovers, is out on DVD tomorrow.

The Wynnefield native shot his directorial debut here in 2004.

He's gearing up to begin production on "Tennessee," which stars Mariah Carey. He says Carey, widely dissed for her work in "Glitter," is "a survivor" who is going to prove her critics wrong.

"The studios don't believe in her," says Daniels, who is producing the film. "They think I'm crazy for hiring her, but people said the same thing when I hired Halle Berry." Berry won an Academy Award for her role in "Monster's Ball," the first film Daniels produced.

Mariah Daily Mailbag: Queen for Halloween // 3:27 PM EST Updated by Casey

    Hi,

My big sister (who is helping me write this letter) has been a Mariah Carey fan for over 8 years now and she introduced me to her music about 2 years ago. When we found out that Mariah was coming to Sacramento for "The Adventures of Mimi" tour, we were really excited and definitely wanted to get tickets. Although it took awhile for our parents to be able to afford tickets for the whole family, we didn’t care because we knew we were going to see our favorite singer and role model. It was an amazing experience and something that we will never forget. After the concert, I decided that I wanted to try and write a song, so that eventually I could send it to Mariah. It took me a few weeks and I finally finished it. I hope that someday she will be able to see it. Since Halloween was right around the corner, I wasn’t sure yet as to whom I wanted to be. Finally, my big sister came up with the idea of me being Mariah Carey. So, at the last minute when almost everything was sold-out at the Halloween stores, we were finally able to put an outfit together. I almost didn’t get a chance to be Mariah because I got sick two days before Halloween and my outfit wasn’t really warm. But, I begged my parents to let me go out for a little bit so I could be my idol!

    Sincerely,

    Jessica

--According to a recent article in the German edition of In Touch magazine, actor Ashton Kutcher once kissed Mariah. Below is a transcript of the article as well as a scan.

Who did Ashton kiss before he got famous?

Once upon a time... there was a young man, still unknown and without beard. And there was his love, a young singer, aspiring to become huge in the music business. But the love between these two didn't last long. Some dates and it was over. But: "she was a great kisser," says Ashton. Who of these three succesful ladies (A. Mariah Carey, B. Nelly Furtado, C. LeAnn Rimes) was Ashton's young love?

    Answer: A. (Mariah Carey)

--From Billboard - Chart Beat: While it was looking like no artist would have more than one No. 1 on the Hot 100 this calendar year, [Justin] Timberlake's second chart-topper arrives earlier than the first multiple No. 1 of 2005. Last year, Mariah Carey was the only artist to have two songs claim a stake at the summit during the calendar year. "We Belong Together" began a 14-week run in June and "Don't Forget About Us" moved into the penthouse on the chart dated Dec. 31.

--From sandiego.com: Making the trend even hotter, celebs are actually doing the designing themselves. And who better to put out a line of Fido Fashion than the aptly named Snoop Dogg? The label—out in early 2007—includes toys, leashes, apparel and treats for dogs, all produced with Snoop’s laid-back, urban flair. Even diva Mariah Carey is making her foray into pet fashion with Pup Star, a line of threads inspired by her beloved Jack Russell. Her camp’s being tight-lipped about the whole project, but we predict designs with lots of glitter.

--From E! Online: Showing up is far more than half the battle for celebrities who get paid to party, Us reports. Okay, some stars actually do a little work, like Mariah Carey and Usher, who get $1 million to perform at private functions.

--From The University Daily Kansan: Being a young connoisseur of Casey Kasem’s Top 40, I thought this band (Hanson) was much better than say, Robyn, or the Spice Girls, or any other girl group out there. They had nothing on Mariah Carey, but then, who does?

--Mariah is among the artists acknowledged in the liner notes of teen pop singer JoJo's new album, "The High Road," for "inspiration through [their] music."

Eminem trashes Mariah during radio interview // 11:13 AM EST Updated by Casey

When he wasn't making jokes about his drug use or complaining about listeners downloading music instead of buying it, Eminem opened up about his relationship with Mariah Carey last week during an interview on his Sirius Satellite Radio station, Shade 45. "Yes, me and Mariah did have a relationship for about a good six, seven months," said Em. "(But) it didn't work. I wasn't really into what she was into; our personalities collided. She's a diva, and I'm a little more regular, I guess." Em went on to blast Mariah for saying they never had a relationship, calling her words that start with the letters "b" and "c." "I can never deny her talent, but the fact that she denied we ever had something, that's bad."

Together, those we are honoring tonight have brightened the lives of many children and the family members who love them.

In addition to her multi-award winning career as a performer and songwriter, Carey has also been a committed volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She has personally granted dozens of wishes for children from across the country. Many children have taken Carey's place at music awards shows, thanks to her generosity. Carey also donates to help grant performing arts/music wishes; she has donated in the six figures to fund more than 20 wishes. The pop legend was also willing to take the stage for the Foundation when it celebrated its 25th anniversary.
