During a promotional visit to Hong Kong, Mariah was presented with a Platinum sales award for "Rainbow" for sales of 20,000 copies and also a special award for 1.6 million albums sold in Sony Music Asia's jurisdiction (i.e. sales in Asian countries barring those in Japan).

IFPI Hong Kong certifications are based on the amount of records shipped to stores minus returns, meaning if there are many copies of an album on the shelves at retail and there is no demand for them, they will be shipped back to the record label and will not be counted in the certification.
