MOTTOLA TARNISHES CAREY'S GLITTER?
Just because Mariah left Sony, doesn't mean she's left behind her bad blood with Tommy Mottola. The New York Daily News has reported that Mariah Carey is considering suing her ex-husband and Sony Kingpin, Tommy Mottola. The concern is that Mottola may be conducting some industry whispering and supposedly calling her new movie and album "disappointing", along with rumouring a rivalry with Janet Jackson. Mariah's accusations of Tommy badmouthing go way back to when they were married. She is said to have thought he planted bad press a day after they would fight. It is rumoured that Carey and Mottola are forbidden to publicly scathe each other under the same deal that released the singer from her Sony contract. Interesting small print…By the way, she just performed for Bill Clinton…by that we mean singing songs.

One of the artists who has really gotten the attention of the media and the public is Latin superstar Luis Miguel. Many years ago, it was rare to see him in a tabloid, or in a magazine that did not have anything to do with promoting albums. Here is a clip of him dancing at a night club, hanging out with buddies and with actress girlfriend Monserrat. [they played a clip] This footage is considered to be a treasure because Luis, is hardly in the public eye. We once caught him in new york city with his ex-girlfriend Daisy Fuentes, walking down, with a bodyguard by his side. It was rare to catch him in situations. But now all that has changed, now with his beautiful new love Mariah Carey, he is proud to show her off, and is now all over the tabloids. The most recent place where our cameras caught up with him and Mariah was in la mother land of Spain. Here we se a very happy Luis, who is not afraid to kiss, or show his affection to Mariah in front of the cameras. [while showing a clip of Luis and Mariah on the boat in Spain kissing with their hands all over each other (not literally)]. Mariah has certainly achieved what no other woman has, to share the love of Luis Miguel with her and the rest of the world. Now Luis can be seen happy with Mariah, which is good promotion for Mariah in Latin countries and also for Luis in the United States, where Mariah is huge. So it finally seems that Luis has found true happiness.. yadi yadi ya!

Clinton celebrates music in school
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Bill Clinton joined pop singers Mariah Carey and India.Arie at an elementary school to celebrate the restoration of instrumental music classes. The cable channel VH1, through its Save The Music Foundation, and Cablevision, donated about 750 musical instruments to the school system. India.Arie sang a brief a cappella song to the cheers of several hundred students at the Louise Spencer School on Tuesday. Carey begged off, saying she was too tired. Clinton spoke, but passed up the opportunity to borrow one of the students' saxophones and perform. "A few years from now, somebody's going to be on a stage like this doing what Mariah and India did today," Clinton said. "It might as well be you. There's going to be, in your lifetime, several African-American presidents, several Latino presidents, several women presidents. It might as well be you." Mayor Sharpe James said the city will donate an unspecified sum to supplement the cable channels' contributions.

Heatherette Mariah's New 'Loverboys'
Well, Katrillion had an inkling when we recently interviewed Richie Rich and Traver Rains of Heatherette, the hot duo whose logo tees have become the "it" accessory for stars like Eve, Britney Spears and No Doubt.

Heatherette's edgy rock star appeal apparently impressed Mariah Carey, too. The pop diva called on the guys to design the airbrushed tee she sports on the cover of her new single "Loverboy." Mariah's hot rod-inspired top is the second Heatherette tee to recently gain national attention.

Rich and Rains are also responsible for creating the "Carrie" signature top featured in this season's ads for HBO's Sex and the City. While you might be able to still get a tee similar to Mariah's through Heatherette, you're out of luck if your first name is Carrie.

When we last spoke to the boys, they told us that you can get any one of their tee creations except the one HBO snagged the copyrights for.

Hmmm, I wonder which one that would be?

Mariah on cover of Thursday's Province Newspaper
Melissa told me that Mariah is on the cover of the Province Newspaper. It has a picture of her from the Billboard aways and then inside it's a pic of Mariah singing in a silver sparkle dress (Diva's Live 2000?) and another pic of Mariah from the Save The Music event on Tuesday. She is going to send me the scan and maybe the article typed out.

Glitter Script
Some of you were telling me you were having a hard time accessing the Project Glitter site, so I made a section on Daily for Glitter Script Details. Today I added the scene where Mariah says, "What makes you think that's the best of me" and more information before and after that. It's really a cool scene and you can check it all out if you want to.

Loverboy on the Charts
Loverboy moved up 20 spots to #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. She is also #34 on R&B Singles, #50 on airplay and #23 on Rhythmic Top 40, for her third week on the chart.

The only thing we can really do is keep doing is requesting her on the radio. There is only so much we can do sadly!

DJ Party with Mariah last night
Last week I reported that a DJ said he would be going to a special part on Wednesday night that Mariah Carey is throwing. We wern't sure if it was real or not but Joey informed it really did happen because he saw Mariah. It was a very low-key party for some DJ's and Virgin industry people. Joey went and said it was tight security and no fans were there. He got a picture with Mariah outside and she was wearing dark blue jeans with a yellow shirt that read, "Candy!" Her hair was up like the I Still Believe video. Joey will be sending me the scan of the picture later today that was taken outside the Hudson Hotel on 58th streed (8th and 9th in NYC). I will have it up on the site tonight or tomorrow morning!

HATIN' HUBBY: Mariah Carey is one angry diva. According to the New York Daily News, the pop star is in a serious feud with her ex-hubby, Sony Music head Tommy Mottola. Apparently, Mariah thinks Mottola is on a mission to sabotage her career via cheap rumors and gossip. "Mariah and the people at Virgin are totally distressed about this," a source told the paper. "Mariah's lawyers are looking to build a case that would charge Mottola and Sony with defamation and restraint of trade." And to think -- the dueling duo used to be married! Sounds like there's not much love in the air anymore.

A Fans Story
Janel contacted me and sent me her story and it's a lovely one, so check it out below...

My name is Janel Spiegel. I am a Mariah Carey Fan Club Member and I help out Joyce and Vicki and I have met Mariah twice. I do have the internet so I would not be able to send my pictures in that way. But I can get the emails and I can see Mariah daily the website. I am in college and I don't have time to work my other computer yet. But I wanted to tell you my story and introduce myself. I have been a Mariah Fan since 1990. I love all of her music and collect everything possible. I first saw her in concert on December 2, 1993 in Philadelphia, PA. Then I met her on November 15, 1997. I recieved a "Dream Come True which is an orginaztion for terminal and chronically disabled children. So I picked the dream to meet Mariah and it took a long time and I was asked if I wanted to change my dream and I said no! I was so thrilled to meet Mariah. It was November 15 and a limo picked up my mom and I (my mom Elizabeth) and we were off to new York. We toured all around New York and saw a lot of sites! I love new York!!! I saw the church where MC and Tommy got married. Then at about 6 pm I got to go to NBC Studios and I watched the entire Saturday Night Live show and Mariah performed "Butterfly" and "My All" and then she and Louise Mcnally and another assistant and a manager, someone from Sony came up and Mariah sat with me for more than an hour and Mariah was so nice. She took a ton of pictures with me and said I should visit her one day and asked if I would help her fan club!!! It was truly amazing! I gave her a christmas teddy bear and an ornament with her name in it saying From Janel. The second time was at MTV studios on November 15, 1998 for the 1's party. She was really nice and said hello. It was really cool. Is there an address where I could mail you some pictures and maybe you could use my story. I really like the site although I can not email on it or anything! I love MC's new song as well! Thanks.

    Clinton said studies have shown that students who take music classes tend to do better in reading, math and science.

    Carey, 31, said music education helped get her through elementary school.     ``The only reason I went to school was for music,'' added India.Arie. ``Now I'm on `The Oprah Winfrey Show,' and get to talk to Stevie Wonder on the phone and sit next to President Clinton, all because of music.''

    Mayor Sharpe James said the city will donate an unspecified sum to supplement the cable channels' contributions. VH1 President John Sykes said Newark is the first city in the nation to do so.

MARIAH CAREY ASYMMETRICAL FACE
Like most of us, singer Mariah Carey has an asymmetrical face. Her right cheek is bigger than her left. Yet she does such a great job of concealing it that few people ever notice. However, Mariah is so aware of it that she is rarely photographed front-on, where the cheek problem would be most obvious - her head is almost always slightly off centre. She could use a darker matte bronzing powder on the lumpier side to make it recede, although this is not easy to achieve. More often than not she simply uses that old favourite cover-up - her hair. Mariah wears her mane obscuring one half of her face not only to look like a sex goddess but to balance her face. In fact, Mariah is a master of distraction, who has one ultimate flaw-concealing trick - she usually wears so little clothing that nobody looks at her face anyway.

Mariah on Entertainment Tonight last night
Basically all they did was show the trailor and talk over it. They edited it too, which really annoyed me but it's was cool to see the trailor in a bigger format. If ya missed it, you didn't miss much!

Mariah is also in this months Tiger Beat with Aaron Carter on the cover and there are two pictures of her. One is fairly big with Mariah in a green top walking her dog, and the other is with Mariah in a black top and her trademark cut off waist jeans! The article is how to get your jeans like hers!

Finally Tarah tells me that Mariah is in Boxoffice magazine. It has Glitter listed under August 31st and it gives a premise of the film. They have the famous Glitter picture, with the Glitter following all around Mariah. Also, there is a paragraph about Wise Girls under new movies.

Mariah to the rescue!
On her first ever album, Britney Spears had a fun young innocent sound to her. With the fun , Baby One more Time to the romantic Email my heart, Britney jolted our music industry. As success and fame got to Britney, her songs on her new cd, Oops I did it again, became alot more "you want me, i want you" attitude. Singing of songs such as the teasing Oops I did it again and the boring Dear Diary, Britney became more egotypical and more childish. Britney is still a fine example of a fun teen, and a Ok singer.

The exception to fame and superstars is the undeniably talented Mariah Carey. Mariah sets a fine example to people of all ages, not because of the way shes dresses, but the way she sings and acts and always has a beautiful smile on her face. There is nothing wrong with the way Mariah dresses, expecially with the recent change from up to THERE dresses to sleek long sexy dresses which she sported in red, recently. With songs of love, hope, wisdom, faith, and heartbreak, Mariah shows the reality of life. Carey is a rare find in our music industry. Her newest single, Loverboy, Mariah shows yet another fun summer hit! We not only are looking forward to her new movie, Glitter, but also to more pretty songs! Mariah is back! Thank gosh she saved our summer!

"They [the kids] do Camp Mariah each year...they talk a lot about the fact that if they hadn't gone, to the camp, they hadn't had this experience they might have ended up, being at home, hanging out, getting into trouble, and it's funny because they'll say thanks for helping me stay out of trouble. These kids really want to do something productive and it's not just a camp that's a traditional camp, it's a career awareness camp.

I've been working on the sound track and the idea for this movie for a really long time. It's set in 1983 but musically it's not just about that. It goes deepter than that. What today's music ends up being are like samples from the '80s for the past five years or something, but people aren't necessarily aware of it...So it's been fun writing and producing the songs and watching it evolve as the stories evolve too."

My close and very dear friend Mark, who works on production of CD's in Holland, told me that there are basically going to be three cd singles. Here is the info...

She really is - her insiders say so. In fact, one of her insiders tells today's Sun (June 26). "She's proud of her bottom and isn't afraid to show it off," the insider says.

The dolphin voiced self-arse lover has just made a video for new single 'Loverboy' in which her rear-end stars. "She wriggles her rear in tight blue shorts" and "spreads herself over the bonnets of luxury cars, giving her bot maximum exposure," says The Sun. Tabloidhell@nme.com would like to make it clear that there is no evidence to suggest any of the luxury cars on which big honking Mariah finds herself (Mariah, incidentally, recently insured her entire body for just under $8 million trillion million dollars) are moving. That would be dangerous and encourage fans who have arses of their own to do the same. Stay off moving cars, especially if you have an arse. Unless of course you are inside, sitting comfortably, wearing a seatbelt and not distracting other road users.

Has Ex Put Carey Through Rumor Mill?
Mariah Carey's feud with her ex-husband, Sony Music chief Tommy Mottola, seems to have only heated up now that she's left his label. We hear the singer has been talking with her lawyers about suing Mottola for allegedly trying to undermine her new album with a whispering campaign — a charge he denies.

Even when they were married and she was on his label, Carey is said to have suspected Mottola of planting unflattering stories about her in the press. "They'd have a fight," says a source. "The next day, you'd read an item dissing her."

After their 1997 divorce, Carey spent years begging Mottola to let her out of her Sony contract. This year, Sony finally let her jump to Virgin. Now that her first feature film, "All That Glitters," and its soundtrack, "Glitter," are due in August, Carey believes the digs against her have "stepped up big time," according to one of her allies.

Friends of Carey suspect Mottola, using intermediaries, has been feeding the media rumors that she's having a diva war with Virgin artist Janet Jackson. They also claim the informants have leaked "early buzz" to reporters and radio programmers that Carey's movie and album are disappointing. Just last week, they note, Howard Stern mocked Carey as a "panicky" whiner. Stern later insisted, "I don't even speak to Tommy [Mottola]."

Word is that the contract releasing Carey from Sony bars either Carey or Mottola from speaking ill of the other. "Mariah and the people at Virgin are totally distressed about this," one source tells us. "Mariah's lawyers are looking to build a case that would charge Mottola and Sony with defamation and restraint of trade."

A spokeswoman for Carey declined to comment.

Knocking Carey's "Glitter" album would seem to be counterproductive for Sony, since it has the rights to distribute the disk in Japan.

A Sony spokeswoman says allegations that Mottola has it in for Carey "are completely untrue. Nothing of this sort has occurred. We are extremely proud of the work we have done in helping Mariah achieve the status of global superstar, and moving forward, we wish her great and continued success."

Bill Clinton, Mariah Carey Sing Music's Praises
Newark, N.J. (Katrillion) -- Three hot musicians -- pop diva Mariah Carey, R&B newcomer India.Arie and sax player Bill Clinton (better known for his former presidential gig) -- showed their support for music education on Tuesday (June 26).

The three were special guests at an event that celebrated VH1 Save the Music's success in improving school music programs in Newark, N.J. "They've helped to put us on the fast track with new instruments" Superintendent Maria Bolden told Katrillion.

Appropriately, the ceremony was held in the auditorium of one of the schools benefiting from Save the Music's efforts. Proud staff members and excited students at Louise A. Spencer School cheered loudly as the event's most famous speakers took the stage.

"I wouldn't have become president if it weren't for music," crowd favorite Bill Clinton said. "Music taught me discipline and creativity ... how to take initiative and how to be patient."

Mariah Carey also talked about her love of music. "(It) saved me as a child ... whatever I was going through," she said. "I thank God for music."

A tearful India.Arie was inspired to sing her yet-to-be-released song "Strength, Courage, and Wisdom." The singer said music is the best form of self-expression. "No one could censor my songs," she told the crowd. Besides, "I'm sitting with President Clinton because of music."

Today, Mariah appeared in Newark NJ for a special Save the Music appearance but she also conducted a new interview with VH1 for an upcoming special in August entitled, "Mariah Carey's Greatest TV Moments!" Mariah will be talking about her past experiences on t.v. and what she likes and dislikes.

Mariah Carey's 'Hero': The Envelope Please
We may finally find out what's in that famous envelope limo driver Chris Selletti says he mailed to himself in 1990. He says the lyrics to the song "Hero," which Mariah Carey recorded and said she wrote, are in it. Selletti has always maintained that he wrote the lyrics to "Hero," and mailed them to himself to make a "poor man's copyright." He's been making this claim for 11 years.

Carey has always said she and Walter Afanasieff wrote "Hero" together. Now Selletti — after all his petitions and appeals to various courts have been denied — is saying he'll open the envelope on TV with an objective forensic expert present. Cindy Berger, a spokeswoman for Carey, said: "This case has been thrown out of court thee times. The federal judge — after hearing Selletti's story and considering all the evidence — ruled the case was a 'complete fabrication' and that it was filed 'to extort a settlement from deep-pocket defendants.'"

A consistent sticking point since hearings in 1998 has been the contention by Mariah that she wrote the song "Hero" for the Dustin Hoffman movie of the same name. It couldn't have been, says Selletti. The movie Hero was released on October 6, 1992. Carey's notebooks indicate she started writing the song in November. The movie was already out. The soundtrack did not include a Mariah Carey song.

A source knowledgeable about the Hero soundtrack told me for an article I published in Spin magazine in 1999: "We reached out to [Walter] Afanasieff and he sent in some instrumental music. But [director] Stephen Frears rejected it. There was never any discussion of Mariah being involved." Sandy Isaac, one of the movie's producers, told me that as far as he knew, Mariah Carey was never asked to participate.

Back in 1990: Selletti was driving a limo for Sly Stone, who was cruising recording studios, working with Earth Wind & Fire's Maurice White (he appeared on an EWF album that year), and selling off songs and guitar riffs for cash. The woman who housed him at the time, a very upstanding person named Ruby Jones, said Stone would trade his music for greenbacks. Selletti says he showed Stone his lyrics. "He said, 'I'll get these published for you,'" Chris recalled. Two things happened next. One was Carey's recording of a song called "Emotions," a nearly note-for-note redo of a hit song written by Maurice White in the 1970s called "Best of My Love" for the Emotions. And then "Hero" came out, with what Selletti claims to this day are his words.

White subsequently received payment from Carey for her use of "Best of My Love." It wasn't the only plagiarism case brought against the singer, though. Carey has always denied stealing songs, but has been involved in several settlements. One case was so contentious that Carey's then-manager, Randy Hoffman, the former partner of Carey's then-husband, Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola, actually went to see the key witness in the case wearing a "wire" provided by a private eye. Hoffman tried to get the witness to admit he'd never played a song by writer Sharon Taber for Carey. The witness never caved, however.

Not all the cases brought against Carey have been with merit or resulted in settlements. One case, brought by a writer named Rhonda Dimmie, is an example. Dimmie claimed she wrote the music for "Hero." Her case was eventually dismissed, with the judge ruling that since Dimmie hadn't written "Hero," Carey must have written it. That established, without actually giving Chris Selletti a trial of his own, that he also hadn't written it.

Mariah's Testimony Revealed
But Dimmie's case was interesting in that Mariah and Tommy Mottola were compelled to testify in a deposition about how "Hero" was written. They confirm in the deposition that "Hero" was intended for the movie. But how it could have been if the movie was already out? The smoking gun for Carey could be studio records that show her doing rough mixes of "Hero" beginning November 23, 1992 — a full six weeks after the movie Hero came out. Additionally, Selletti's attorney, Jeffrey Levitt — in papers filed with the court, but obviously ignored — revealed the actual song used for the movie Hero — Luther Vandross' "Heart of a Hero" — was copyrighted in January and given to the movie producers in August 1992.

When she deposed for the Dimmie case, Mariah testified she'd been writing her "Hero" for the movie almost at the same time. She said she was writing it for Gloria Estefan — even though Mariah Carey has never in her career written a song for another artist.

Mariah testified in the Dimmie deposition that when he heard the finished song, Tommy Mottola told her to keep it for herself. But in order for that to have happened, she would have needed a finished song in the summer of 1992 — since the movie was to be released in October. How then could she have notebooks from November 1992 in which she was composing the lyrics? In the same deposition, Afanasieff — who's been Carey's co-writer on most songs since her second album — testified "Hero" was written in two days. "In the course of a few hours," he said. "But it's hard to say ... it was within two days." Does he mean two days in the summer, or two days in November? If it was two days in the summer, then why is there a notebook with lyrics dated November 22, 1992?

Carey's position in this matter at least is not assisted by the fact that her new single "Loverboy" is largely a remake of another old song, Cameo's 1984 hit "Candy." Since the recording of "Hero," Carey has a long history of "sampling" large chunks of old or existing songs on her singles — "Emotions," "Fantasy," "Honey" and the new "Loverboy" are all prime examples. Carey's attorneys, by the way, argue previous settlements were done because the cases were "nuisances" and weren't worth fighting. But most star songwriters aggressively defend and prosecute plagiarism cases rather than settle out of court. Cases in point: Recent actions brought against Michael Jackson, who — despite his other problems — is a gifted songwriter who has defended himself successfully in court. Also, Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers, who fought Michael Bolton and won over a song called "Love Is a Beautiful Thing."

Mariah gives a WHATEVER to Thalia
Nini was very kind and typed out an interview that just aired today on Primer Impacto (Spanish News Show). Mariah was wearing a white tank top that said New York in blue glitter and a pair of shorts with heels, of course. The interview took place in The Piare hotel in NYC. Mariah showed up 1 hr late.  She was only supposed to be interviewed for ten minutes but stayed for more than thirty.  The reporter said that MC only refused to discuss Tommy Mottola.

Interviewer:
Did you and Luis really get married?

Mariah:
No, I don't get into personal things. People exaggerate too much. No, I didn't get married.

Interviewer:
Has Luis changed your life in a positive way?

Mariah:
I believe everything in life happens for a reason but I don't want to talk about that right now.

I think people should have a great heart and humor.

Problem No. 1: "Loverboy" is the lead song from Carey's soundtrack to her new movie "All That Glitters," but the video has no scenes from the movie.

Problem No. 2: Carey may already be a multi-millionaire, but trying to look more busty, more blonde and more naked will not help sustain a successful career.

Problem No. 3: The song, which samples Cameo's popular '80s jam "Candy," has no recognizable chorus.

The Solution: Put rappers Da Brat and Ludacris in car race, give Cameo a cameo appearance and hit a few high notes. It balances out to a track that's a pretty good listen. But the video may make your I.Q. drop a few points.

Mariah Carey hits the airwaves
(Launch) - Superstar diva Mariah Carey's latest single, "Loverboy," was the most added song at radio across the country this week. DJ Clark Kent produced the track, which has been remixed by David Morales and MJ Cole. The chorus was taken from Cameo's 1985 hit, "Candy," and Cameo's Larry Blackmon and Thomas Jenkins contributed their vocals anew for Carey's song and also appear in the David LaChapelle-directed video. Rappers Ludacris and Da Brat are also featured on "Loverboy." "Loverboy" is the first single from the forthcoming movie soundtrack, "All That Glitters," due out Aug. 21. The film stars Carey and tells the story of a young woman (Carey) who dates a New York hip-hop DJ in the early '80s, with the hopes of jumpstarting her career. "All That Glitters," which is currently scheduled to open Aug. 31, was directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall and also stars Eric Benet, Kyle Thrash and Chris Tessaro.

Virgin Brazil Updates with Loverboy Screen Caps

If beat-savvy remixers David Morales and MJ Cole have anything to do with it, Carey's new single "Loverboy" will be her next dance chart-topper. "Loverboy" is No. 44 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart in its third week.

On the "Loverboy" single, due July 17 from Virgin, Grammy Award winner Morales, who has frequently collaborated with Carey over the years, delivers three restructurings, each with its own distinct style and energy rush. The Club of Love mix finds the singer's vocals floating atop spacey effects, lush keyboards, and classic Morales kick. For a decidedly trippier journey, Morales has created the Dub Luv mix, while the Drums of Love mix resonates with a tribal vibe.

Cole's 2-step re-tweakings, titled Cole's Main and London Dub mixes, weave Carey's sweet, soulful wailings into a skittling, R&B-spackled landscape of hip-swiveling beats and rhythms. Cole's own album, "Sincere" (Island), was released in mid-April.

Glitter Trailor
Tarah works at a movie theater and she wrote meand told me that Gliter is not on any of their movies. Plus, SheWillGlitter wrote that AMC that they don't have the Glitter trailor yet either but the woman said that it will most likely be attached to the next FOX movie, Planet of the Apes! Hopefully some people will have luck this weekend with Dr. DoLittle 2. I'll be checking it out this weekend myself and see if my local AMC has it!

Mariah in Newark NJ on Tuesday
Butterfli and Maria told me that on a CBS show called, "Famous Faces" they said that Mariah Carey and Bill Clinton will be stopping by a local elementary school on Tuesday in Newark NJ for Save the Music. Here is an article about it, that Tom sent to me about it also...

Clinton, Mariah Carey to visit Newark school
    NEWARK, N.J. (AP)   Former president Bill Clinton and pop singer Mariah Carey are scheduled to visit an elementary school here next week to celebrate the expansion of music programs in the city's schools.

Clinton, Carey and singer India Arie are to appear at the Louise A. Spencer School Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

``Our students now have the opportunity to not only excel academically but musically as well,'' said Marion Bolden, Newark's superintendent of schools.

``Our spirit and our music is alive and well.''

The event is being sponsored by the video music television channel VH1 through its Save The Music Foundation and by Cablevision. VH1 is donating 750 musical instruments to the Newark schools.

``It's an effort to jump-start the music program in our school system,'' district spokesman Gregory King said. ``Through budget cuts and changing priorities, the program had diminished over the years. We're trying to bring it back.''

Although arrangements are still being made, there's a good chance at least one of the instruments will be set aside for the ceremony.

``The former president might even play his saxophone,'' King said. William Day, the district's director of visual and performing arts, convinced VH1 to help out in Newark.

``There is an arts renaissance throughout the district, and an avenue is being provided for students to express themselves as individuals in a positive manner,'' he said.

Day said there are tangible benefits to offering music classes in school. ``Generally, music students at all grade levels have better attendance, better grades, better behavior and a more positive outlook, as well as heightened self-esteem,'' he said.

The trip will be Clinton's second to a Newark school. Last November, while still president, Clinton visited Malcolm X. Shabazz High School to tout its Project Grad program, which helps at-risk teen-agers improve their grades and steers them toward college.

Billboard Charts For June 30th...

Now in the Billboard Hot 100, Mariah only moved up 4 positions. However, this week should of really of been Loverboy's debut and most likely, next week Mariah will fly up the charts. Janet was the Greatest Gainer this week moving from #76 to #38. Thanks to Mddubose1 for the information too

Mark works in a company that creates cd's and he just told me that they are beginning to make Loverboy now and already, there are 20,000 copies ordered. I'll have more information tomorrow on this from my pal Mark.

Mariah on Extra
Yesterday, Extra had a little segment on Mariah and Sarah Blakely, which she met during a break from the Loverboy video in LA. They showed footage of Mariah's Loverboy and had an interview with the stripper, Sarah Blakely. They showed a full shot of the picture on the right and MC was wearing jeans, the bikini top and the jacket, JD gave only to Mariah, Lil Bow-wow and Brat Tat Tat. Also, Mariah signed Sarah's arm and Sarah had a tattoo artist copy the exact autograph and add it to her ankle and they showed that. In the end it showed Sarah singing Can't Take That Away and said how Sarah was following in Mariah's footsteps and that Mariah was following in Sarah's. Didn't particularly like that statement but whatcha going to do?

hey, whats up? i just wanted to let you know my story about TRL on monday. i was outside right and when mariah came to the window i saw her say that she was coming down. i got so excited because i was a little upset i didn't get inside so this made up for it. at the end of the show, the nypd didnt take down the barricades, so i figured she really was going to come down. about 15 min after the show ended, she finally came down. she looked beautiful, as usual. when she got to me, these guys were like on top of me and my friend, so mariah's bodyguards yelled at them to get off of us...thank god! i handed her my daydream cd and she signed the jacket and when she handed it back, she looked at me and i said thank you. she said you're welcome back. (one of the awesome things about her is that she always makes a point to look at you so that you know shes paying attention to you and not just autographing) i got some pics and grabbed my friend. we got out of our spot and ran to the end where she was headed. when she g ot there i stuck my hand out and she grabbed it!! she made her way to her limo and everyone followed her. we were all in the middle of the street. everyone chased her limo...it was the greatest thing. thanks mariah!! you're the BEST!! kelly...

POP diva Mariah Carey is afraid that one day someone will pinch her and she will wake up.

For the sexy songbird is finally living the life she dreamed of when she felt "trapped" in a marriage to a man 20 years older than her. She has also found a man close to her age who loves her without having to control her.

Five years ago, as her marriage to Sony record boss Tommy Mottola crumbled, Mariah wanted a career like her idol Whitney Houston. That meant writing and producing her own records as well as starring in and producing movies. She's now got it all.

The first step came earlier this year when she topped Janet Jackson and signed a record $23million contract with Richard Branson's record label Virgin. Proud Mariah said at the time: "I made this deal without anybody hearing one note of music."

One US magazine even dubbed her the Godmother of the G-string Divas - teenage beauties Britney, Christina and the Destiny's Child girls, of course. Mariah's first film All That Glitters is due out in America next month. She not only stars in the movie, she co-produced the music drama and helped with script rewrites as well.

She even sings the soundtrack and Loverboy, the first single from it, is being released to accompany the $38million movie. The film is unlikely to have the same impact as Houston's The Bodyguard in 1992, but she had Hollywood heavyweight Kevin Costner as her co-star. Mariah only has Halle Berry's husband Eric Benet as her lover and Max Beesley as her DJ promoter.

Still the early word is that MC - as she likes to be called by her fans - turns in a moving portrayal as a young struggling singer determined to reach the top in the shameless music industry.

It may have helped that the plot for the movie could be taken from Mariah's tragic early life. It is the story of a mixed-race girl who has been abandoned by her white father, taken away from her black mother and raised by foster parents. As a teenager, the girl hangs out in New York clubs, falls in love and becomes an overnight singing sensation.

But the romance ends in tears and she goes off looking for her lost mother. It was originally written as a modern-day Cinderella tale, but Mariah said she insisted that producers turn back the clock to the 1980s. Mariah, whose mum is Irish-American while her dad is black and Venezuelan, said: "I had this 80s idea four years ago.

"People said nobody is ready for the 80s. But I really felt strongly about it because it was nostalgic.

"Some executives were concerned it was too soon, and people weren't ready to go there. I said, "Trust me, they are.'"

And what a diva wants a diva gets - especially one who is getting a Whitney Houston-like reputation for throwing little temper tantrums. Strangely, it was Mariah's dreams of becoming a film actress that sparked the beginning of the end of her marriage.

In 1993, she married Mottola in a star-studded affair, but the honeymoon period soon fizzled out and she now refers to the marriage as "the situation".

Mariah - who insists she was a virgin bride - found herself trapped in her sprawling $40million mansion in Bedford, New York, wed to a man 20 years older than her.

With plenty of time on her hands to watch videos, she began to think about stardom on the silver screen.

Curvy Mariah began working with acting coach Sheila Gray who made her realise what she was missing out on - just about everything. She said: "Sheila was one of the catalysts for helping me move out of that situation.

"I was so blocked emotionally. I sat on the floor and did relaxation exercises and started crying when Sheila asked me to name a place where I felt safe because I realised I didn't have one.

"I owned half of everything in that mansion and paid for half of everything, right down to the electric bills.

"I didn't have one space to think of. So it was this burst of emotion and it helped me realise this was not right.

"I wouldn't be the person that I am today if I hadn't gone back into that and got in touch with myself. Not to sound New Age-y or corny."

Her work with an acting coach has certainly paid off and the Hollywood buzz about her "glittering" work has led to her co-starring alongside Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino in Wise Girls, about three women married to mobsters.

But busty beauty Halle Berry was so concerned about Mariah's sizzling shape that she visited the set of the All That Glitters during the singer's love scenes with her husband Eric.

Mariah, who claims she has only been to bed with "less than a handful" of men, has since fallen head over heels in love with Latin singer Luis Miguel, 31. He recently gave her a $300,000 diamond bracelet that Julia Roberts borrowed to wear at this year's Oscars.

Mariah has said: "We are very happy together." Now the only person who can turn Mariah's dream life into a nightmare is her sister Alison.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA (you know, home of the Edmonton Oilers, Wayne Gretzky, world's largest shopping mall). It's a city of about a million people. Well, here in the prairie provinces, most people do know who MC is just like anywhere, but her music is not played too often. A lot of people seem to dislike her a lot, but I guess that's everywhere. In the last 3 or 4 years, the only new songs by MC we've really heard are Heartbreaker and now a little bit of Loverboy. Butterfly got very minimal airplay on certain stations as well. We NEVER heard Honey, My all, definately not Breakdown or the Roof, Thank God I Found You, Mariah's Theme, I Still Believe, or any others in between. The major stations in Saskatoon and Regina(in Saskatchewan) and Calgary and Edmonton (Alberta) don't play her. Very rarely you'll hear an old song but it's only a select few like Hero, or When You Believe (believe it or not). This is very frustrating living here!!! Now they barely play Loverboy in Edmonton, like probably a total of 7 or 8 times since it was leaked out 3 weeks ago. The night it came out she was on the 8 o'clock showdown against 3 Doors Down and of course "just barely" lost. She could never win in these cities.

Yesterday Mariah herself actually called our main station Power 92 FM and of course the whole city was abuzz because of this. They'll never play her music but when she calls they acted like she's a god and no one that big has ever talked to them.  It makes me mad!

HOT IN A COLD climate! Mariah Carey is in Halifax filming "Wise Girls" with the Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino. Before being Nova Scotia- bound, she was at MTV where the "Total Request Live" show had viewers picking her single "Lover Boy" because they loved it (Of course!) and also in order to win the glitter car that appears in Mariah's new video. All of this activity comes from her megadeal with Virgin Records.

The "Glitter" album bows on Aug. 21 to coincide with the 20th Century Fox movie of the same name for which our girl wrote the soundtrack. Yesterday, "Lover Boy" became the "No. 1 most added song" on radio stations across the country. Good grief! If Mariah had time for a personal life, it would sizzle.

He got my vote because out of the three, he was the only one that didn't seem so arrogant and he seemed like a really nice guy. Why Didn't Mariah Release X-Girlfriend?? The Answer from Miss M!

During a commercial a girl I was sitting next to during trl asked MC during a commercial "I love that song X-Girlfriend, how come you didn't release it?" and Mariah said something to the effect of "The record company only wanted me to release two songs from Rainbow and the only reason they let me release CTTA is because you guys the fans petitioned."  

Funkin' For Jamaica is a remake!!
Yesterday, I reported three new songs from the Glitter soundtrack and Heartbreakee has some information on the one song called, "Funkin' For Jamaica"

The music for the original was written by British jazz/funk trumpeter Tom Browne while its lyrics was written by Tonni Smith who was also the vocalist on the track. The song was a funk/dancehall hit of 1980 but I think it sounds extremely modern.

Expect strong vocals from Mariah on this one, the original singer (Tonni Smith) sang it with a full deep chest voice, so I doubt there will be hardly any whispery vocals on this one.

I'm so loving this song at the moment, it's so damn funky. It's really catchy as well which is great. If the rumour of this song is true, I'm looking forward to this one more than Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.

Want A Loverboy Poster?
Well not really, but as I mentioned yesterday there is a FULL PAGE picture of Mariah in the June 23rd issue of Billboard magazine. Billboard is huge magazine, so the picture is nice and big. I picked it up last night and it's really nice and it's across from her debut on the charts at #79. The magazine is $5.95 but if you want something to hang on your wall for Mariah's new release, I highly suggest going to buy this magazine before it is taking over the shelves tihs weekend. Mine is already on my wall!

Dr Dolittle and Glitter Commercial
Here is what Matt told me:
I was watching a local non-cable channel this morning (around 9am) and I saw an advertisment for the movie "Dr. Dolittle." Near the end of the commercial it said that there would be an exclusive sneak preview of "one of the most anticipated movies of the year"...and the movie was "Glitter!!!" But it also said in selected theaters only, so I don't know how many of us will actually see it. But I thought that was some pretty good news to share with ya! It did show a clip from the movie while they were talking about it....but it was extremely short sadly.

Glitter Trailor
Tarah and my friend Melissa, who both work at movie theaters, reminded me that not all theaters will add Glitter to Dr. Dolittle, if it is against their policy or they are not instructed to do so. Hopefully all of them will add it though and I guess we will just have to wait and see which theaters do!!

Mariah on TRL yesterday
Mariah was on TRL for the entire hour and a half show. She came out right after the #10 video was shown and she was wearing a pair of jeans, note not the classic jeans she is known for now, and a tank top reading, "Sugar Daddy's Doughnuts." She also had a Lamby belt, which she was really proud of. Her hair was similiar to the BET interview and she looked very relaxed and beautiful. The 3 guys who were going for her car had to impress Mariah in four ways. They had to make her laugh, show their artistic abilities, rap for her and then show some love with only $5. In the end, David won. Mariah's mom, Patricia Carey, even called in and gave her vote for David. Mariah's Loverboy video was #7, up a place from last week.

Everyone in the audience got a copy of Mariah's new single and Mariah said she would now be sending all her fans a copy too. Ha ha, just kidding but everyone in the audience did indeed get a copy. Coming tomorrow, stories from fans in the audience hopefully!!

Mariah Carey Gets Two-Step Treatment From MJ Cole
Most pop superstars would be happy staying one step ahead of the curve. With her new single, "Loverboy," Mariah Carey will be two steps ahead.

Carey recruited two-step producer MJ Cole to bring a bit of the latest British dance music craze to a remix of the first single from her "Glitter" soundtrack, due August 21.

Cole's "Loverboy" remix has already been shipped to clubs, a Virgin Records spokesperson said. The "Loverboy" single will be released in stores on July 15, though the two-step remix will likely not be included. However, a hip-hop version featuring Ludacris and Da Brat will be on the commercial single.

Carey's original version of "Loverboy" samples Cameo's 1986 hit "Candy," which she bought exclusive rights to (see "Mariah To Beat Biters: How Ya Like Me Now?").

A spokesperson for Cole said his remix is reminiscent of the two-step style he and such fellow Brits as Artful Dodger and Craig David have turned into a phenomenon overseas. Also known as U.K. garage, two-step is a mix of drum'n'bass and R&B and is named for having two beats per bar rather than the standard four beats most often used in rock and techno.

Cole will spin his remix when he plays a Breakbeat Science party in New York on July 21 along with Craze, Dara, DB and Reid Speed. The DJ will remain in the Big Apple that week for the Billboard Dance Music Summit, and will perform at Centro-Fly on July 26 with Artful Dodger.

Sincere, Cole's debut, arrived in the U.S. in April. Later this year, the producer plans to release a double-CD collection of some of the more than 100 remixes he's done for other artists (see "MJ Cole Two-Steps Out With Sincere").

"I was on 'Glitter' with Mariah Carey in a record industry party scene. What was interesting about the 'shoot' was that the 100 or so background performers during this particular scene were frisked and 'patted-down' by Mariah's bodyguards, before being allowed to enter the set. When the bodyguards were questioned 'why' the shake-down, it was explained that "Mariah is between recording contracts right now and we are looking for unauthorized recording devices (?!)". Funny thing is Mariah was NOT singing in the scene. She was merely part of the party action, which was broken up by actor 'papparazi' party-crashers."

Expect new trailers for the animated "Osmosis Jones" and Mariah Carey's "Glitter" to be attached with "Doctor Dolittle 2" whilst "The Fast and The Furious" will include "American Outlaws" and most likely both "Serendipity" and "Planet of the Apes". Thanks to 'Boo' I just thought I would let you guys know, they are usually very accurate, and Entertainment Weekly and Variety gave them good ratings. Thoughtful From Elle magazine
Very nice and thoughtful little mention of Mariah from the editorial in Elle magazine, be sure to get your copy for a long article and lots of pictures.

In our celebrity-soaked culture, we often forget why people - some people, anyway - become famous in the first place. We get caught up in scrutinizing their mating habits, their dining habits, their wardrobes, that their talent becomes obscured, almost an afterthought.

I've always found it strange that much of the press coverage of Mariah Carey is spent questioning her creative choices and personal life, yet rarely remarks on her powerful five-octave-range voice, surely one of the great pop instruments of the last decade.

A few years ago, I was seated next to Carey at a small dinner in a downtown restaurant. It was late, the evening was winding down, and she was staring off into space, lost in her own thoughts. I'd been talking with the person on my other side when she started singing to herself, just under her breath, almost subconsciously. Her little song stopped me midsentence. Hearing that voice, so recognizable from the radio and MTV, even at next-to-no volume and minus the orchestra, made my heart skip a beat.

This month, Carey - who outranks every other female vocalist, including Madonna, for number-one hits - lets writer Thomas Beller in on her next big moves: a new movie and a new album, which promises to be both an artistic departure and a chart-topper.

Seriously how great would that be!!! Mario and a couple other peole contacted me and let me know that Loverboy premiered this past weekend on Fantastico in Brazil.

Mariah Under Fire: Vulnerable to Attack Now?
Mariah Carey got a taste of what life is like without Tommy Mottola last week. The question is, can she handle it? For years Mariah was off-limits to criticism from the music press because she was married to Sony Music's chief operating officer. Even former New York Daily News gossip columnist AJ Benza admits in his new memoir that he treated Carey with kid gloves because of her high-powered marriage.

But all that changed last week when Billboard, the record industry's trade magazine and bible, reviewed Carey's first non-Mottola released single, "Loverboy." The magazine, which almost never gives a negative opinion, came down hard on "Loverboy," the first single from the soundtrack to the movie Glitter, in which Mariah stars, and her first on her new, extremely rich deal with Virgin Records.

The magazine's singles reviews editor Chuck Taylor wrote: "After such a prestigious record of hits for more than a decade, 'Loverboy' sounds dangerously close to self-sabotage. The mighty may have fallen here."

This was something of a change of heart from Billboard's review of Carey's single "Honey" in 1999. "Honey," which was on the same par as "Loverboy" — a mélange of samplings from old songs with Carey scatting, not singing, inane and indecipherable lyrics — fared slightly better. Even if the reviewer didn't like the song, the spin was still positive.

"It's always an event when Mariah Carey releases the first single from an upcoming album — in this case Rainbow, due this fall from longtime label Columbia. … Simply put: Yes, it's a hit, and her voice is in fine form, but 'Heartbreaker' is a disappointment in terms of what we know she's capable of writing." It turns out, it's all in the way you look at it.

It didn't help last week that Sony/Columbia released the new album by Jessica Simpson, teen sensation wannabe and Carey successor. A feature written in Billboard by the very same Chuck Taylor reads:
"Among the highlights of Irresistible is Simpson's favorite, 'Hot Like Fire,' a funky midtempo shuffler that she delivers with blazing vocal grit — it's certainly not kid stuff. … The set also serves up momentously luscious ballads …" Calls to Taylor on Friday were not returned.

Additionally hurtful to Carey is that Simpson is evidently aided by her onetime songwriting partner at Sony, Walter Afanasieff, who shaped some of Carey's biggest songs. For "Loverboy," according to the writing credits, Carey composed the song herself and lists the members of the group Cameo as her partners. "Loverboy" is mostly sampled from Cameo's 1980s hit record Candy.

Carey on her own as a songwriter is problematic. She's been involved in several plagiarism lawsuits, most of them settled with Carey making a large payoff and no admissions of guilt. One of the suits, over the song "Hero," has dragged on for most of a decade. Former limo driver Christopher Selletti claimed that lyrics he'd written and given to onetime pop star Sly Stone had turned up as "Hero."

In her defense, Carey produced notebooks and tapes to the court showing how she and Afanasieff wrote the song for the Dustin Hoffman movie, Hero. Unfortunately, the dates for these sessions were after the movie was released. But Selletti was ill-equipped to combat Carey's impressive legal resources and has never prevailed.

Carey's previous sampling efforts include a hit record called Fantasy, based on the Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" — which she acknowledged; and the wholesale theft of the Emotions' "Best of My Love" for her 1991 hit "Emotions," written by Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White. In the latter case, White received payment after complaining about the songs' similarities.

If "Loverboy" is not a hit, Carey's next single is said to be a remake of "Hey Mr. DJ" — also from the 1980s — although Carey's already sampled "Hey DJ" by Malcolm McLaren for "Honey," so who knows what that means. There's already been a Jennifer Lopez version of "Hey Mr. DJ" called "Play" and a Backstreet Boys song with the same name and idea. But of course none of these acts can ever be accused of originality. (Madonna, I believe, also dabbled with this idea.)

Carey is also busy filming a new movie up in Canada, but set in Staten Island, N.Y. The $10 million indie feature, called Wise Girls, is about three waitresses who work in a mob-owned diner. Mira Sorvino, who has frittered her 1995 Oscar away, and Melora Walters, are her co-stars. David Anspaugh, who directed the mediocre efforts Rudy, Moonlight and Valentino and Hoosiers, is in charge.

It was just a diamond bracelet. But in luxury marketing public relations, it was more like the rock that cast the ripples, when actress Julia Roberts wore a snowflake-designed Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet (and earrings) to the Academy Awards.

After she won best actress for ``Erin Brockovich'' and stood in front of the camera with the statue firmly clutched in her arms, all the world suddenly wanted to know about the bracelet decorating her right wrist. Well, maybe not all the world, but certainly the exclusive celebrity and fashion set. The bracelet garnered dozens of press mentions from the New York Post's ``Page Six'' gossip column to CNN.

Van Cleef & Arpels even ended up selling the $91,000 bracelet to singer Luis Miguel, who bought it for his girlfriend, pop diva Mariah Carey.

Note from a DJ
Billy works for a radio station and he recently contacted me telling me that the reason why Loverboy hasn't the reason Loverboy hasn't done super great yet is because it really isn't suppose to hit radio until this Monday and that is a main reason why she is appearing on TRL. They expect 3,000 adds this week with her new single and many different formats for the radio, even bigger than Janet's!

So, yes Loverboy has been doing great so far but it seems that it might get even bigger this week and more and more radio stations should be playing it hopefully

Hit songwriter Diane Warren has been nominated for a number of Oscars but has lost each time she's been up for the award. Her main competitor has usually been that year's animated Disney film. So this year, Warren figured out a way, maybe, to win: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Even though James Newton Howard wrote the score to Disney's new movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Warren is listed as a co-writer on the title track sung by Mya called "Where the Dream Takes You."

The news has startled people in the close-knit world of commercial songwriting (this is the David Foster-Albert Hammond-Desmond Child galaxy).

"Diane never co-authors a song with other composers, just recording artists like Roy Orbison, Mariah Carey and Michael Bolton. She doesn't like to share the royalties. And she doesn't even like Howard," a source in the music biz told me.

Warren — who's being honored tonight by the ASCAP Songwriters Hall of Fame — may write all kinds of sappy love songs for sappy singers like Celine Dion and Mariah Carey, but her own world is an unhappy one, according to sources.

Warren is considered a pussy cat by some, but quite aggressive about getting credit and royalties. In one anecdote I heard this week, she called Barbara Orbison — widow of legendary singer Roy Orbison — and told her she was taking his name off songs she'd co-written with him because he was dead. Barbara Orbison, of course, refused to comply. The credit remains and Warren has to split the spoils.

And the rewards are huge. She employs 12 people or more at her home, all of whom are supposed to be making sure her songs are recorded and re-recorded in order to bring in dough.

Warren has written hit songs for several movies, most of them produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, including those for Coyote Ugly, Con Air, The Rock, Armageddon, and Pearl Harbor.

Meantime, absent from Wednesday's proceedings will be one of Warren's few collaborators, Steve Angelica, who co-wrote several songs with her early in Warren's career. He is said to be working for a limousine company in Los Angeles these days.

Claire sent me the following article taken from the Sunday Telegraph in Sydney.

Mariah Carey is a new Virgin.  Recording artist, that is.  The superstar diva, who remains most unimpressed with Jennifer Lopez, claiming her crown, returns to the airwaves next month with a new single, Loverboy. Carey's new album, Glitter, will also be the soundtrack for her film debut in the movie of the same name. Once again, Carey is working with some bad-boy rappers and hip-hoppers to keep her cred in the urban camp, with Da Brat and Ludacris also featuring in the single's video.

Loverboy features a loop from the 1986 Cameo hit Candy - for which Carey bought the exclusive rights, to prevent others in the rap community ripping it off and releasing it before she did so herself. Carey's mega-deal with Virgin will reportedly earn her as much as $US25 million an album.

How did Ludacris like working with Mariah on Loverboy? This is what he tells BBC radio about it:
She called me in to do a record with her. I think when somebody collaborates with Mariah Carey they've pretty much made it in the industry. I feel so great about it - plus it's good money!

Mariah talking about Glitter
Our favourite Glittergirl was on TV-channel Much Music and spoke about Glitter and the songs in the movie: Certain songs from this movie were written to enhance the scene like through Billie's point of view, like there's a song - I always call "Care Enough", but everyone's calling it "Reflection" because that's the first line I sing in the song. And she's sort of asking the question "did you ever really care about me?" to her mom cause she starts, like, thinking about it as we see her, you know, evolve in the movie. And so there are lines in the song like "if I'm not quite good enough or somehow undeserving of a mother's love". That would never have come out of my mouth 'cause my momma loves me! But, you know, there's a different approach in writing these songs.

There's a lot of ballads on the record because I wrote them to kind of enhance certain scenes, but then there are a lot of party records that are, you know, with DJ Clue screaming at you and stuff like that.

(Virgin) Carey's on a new label and in a new movie (All that Glitters), but it's the same ol' sound on this amusingly derivative single.  There's a sampled '80's hook (Cameo's "Candy"), breathy mumbles, and a gang of rap guests (Ludacris, Da Brat, Twenty II and Shawnna) on the accompanying remix.  The only unexpected thing is when the ex-Mrs. Tommy Mottola sings "I want a sugar daddy." Didn't she get rid of one?

Glitter released in UK
Here is what Ashes told me:
Columbia Tristar confirmed today that the scheduled release of All that Glitters is 09/11/01 in the UK. Trailers for the movie will be out at the beginning of September.

As you notice fox is not distributing in the UK, so you will need to ring your local fox office to see who has bought the rights.

Da Brat Receives Probation For Throwing Tantrum
Hip hop star Da Brat struck a plea with Atlanta prosecutors on Monday that allowed her to avoid any jail time for allegedly beating a woman at a Buckhead nightclub. Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service, be on probation for 12 months and pay a $1,000 fine, said Erik Friedly, spokesman for the Fulton County district attorney's office. Also, the rapper's felony aggravated assault charge was reduced to misdemeanor reckless conduct in exchange for her pleading guilty. Da Brat allegedly pistol-whipped Rezue Robateue at the Chili Pepper nightclub in Buckhead on March 8, 2000. According to police, the rapper beat Robateue for sitting in the VIP lounge and not leaving when Harris' followers told Robateue to leave. The beating left Robateue with a cut on her face that required three stitches.

In related news, Da Brat will be starring alongside Mariah Carey in the forthcoming film Glitter. The film will center around a young singer (Carey) who grew up in the projects and lands a record deal. The film will also feature Terrance Howard, Dorian Harewood and Eric Benet. Da Brat is also featured on Destiny's Child's "Survivor" remix which hit stores on Tuesday as part of the Carmen Hip Hopera soundtrack.

Mariah's One Billion Bod
Pop strumpet Mariah Carey has upgraded the insurance policy on her body to £1 billion after signing a new record deal with Virgin.

Mariah's body has previously been valued at £10 million, earning her the nickname The Ten Million Dollar Babe.

According to the Daily Star, Mariah signed the insurance policy in case she injured herself during filming for her debut movie role - All That Glitters - which also star's Mel B's beau Max Beesley.

Virgin snatched Mariah from Sony with a deal worth around £60 million.

Her first single for Virgin, Loverboy, which she wrote for fiancé Luis Miguel, is set for release on July 16.

So I was up at around 2 am watching "El Gordo y La Flaca" and they said that Mariah already had plans to return to Mexico D.F. to promote her first movie "Glitter".  They also talked about the other places Mariah has visited like Acapulco, Cancun, and Cabo San Lucas.  They argued about the pronunciation of her name "Mariah Carey" or "Maria Car-ey" they finally agreed on the first one.  Then the inevitable, on a Spanish talk show mentioning Mariah, happened they started talking about Thalia and how they look alike, comparing pictures and significant others. You know how Thalia dated Luis Miguel and Mariah was married to Tommy and then they switched. Anyway in the end La Flaca said that they should stop and that she didn't understand because the two women were nothing alike.

After capturing headlines around the world with the news of her signing a record-breaking contract with Virgin Records, Mariah Carey just announced she will release Glitter, her eagerly-awaited Virgin Records debut album, in August of this year.

For Glitter, which is also the title soundtrack to her movie set in the early 80's, Mariah has enlisted a stellar lineup of co-producers and guest artists, and has also written and produced some of her best ballads to date. Mariah Coming to Paris in July
The French Official Mariah Carey Fan Club told me that Mariah will be in Paris from July 2nd until July 4th. She will be doing some interviews and TV shows to promote her new single Loverboy, which will be in stores July 3rd for the Maxi CD Single and as a single on July 17th in Paris. The promotion will be associated to articles in french magazines FanDe and Elle, which will be released in July in Paris.

Mariah Carey heads to speedway for new video
(Launch) - Mariah Carey recently shot the video for "Loverboy," the first single from the soundtrack to her new movie, "All That Glitters." Photographer David LaChapelle directed the video, which features scenes taken from a high velocity motor-speedway adventure. Da Brat, Ludacris and Cameo make appearances in the video as well as on the track. "Loverboy" was produced by DJ Clark Kent and has been remixed by David Morales and MJ Cole. The "All That Glitters" soundtrack is due out Aug. 21. The movie is based on the experiences of a young woman (Carey) who dates a New York hip-hop DJ in the early '80s, with the hopes of jumpstarting her career. The film, scheduled to open at the end of the summer, was directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall and also stars Eric Benet, Kyle Thrash and Chris Tessaro

Loverboy #79 on Billboard
Chris gave me an update on the new Billboard charts. It seems that Loverboy will debut on the Hot 100 Singles Chart at #79. Also, it will go form #62 to #44 on the R&B Chart for week ending June 23rd. So, this is pretty good, considering the fact that the song has been on radio for about 2 weeks. Keep requesting the song on your radio stations and by the time the single comes out on July 17th, we should have it close to #1 already.

(MC is sitting cross-legged on a couch with George (I have no idea where or which city they are in).  She's wearing grey shorts and a grey tank that says Candy. Her hair is really blonde, and she's also wearing a gold necklace but I couldn't make out what the charm on the end said.  The interview is interrupted several times by showing clips from Mariah's previous music videos - I tried to show that when I wrote it out. Anyway, here's what I got from the interview!)

Mariah: "...I'm filming another movie actually in Halifax with Mira Sorvino and Melora Walters, and it's a movie from Staten Island, doing some things we don't even talk about over there (said in a N.Y accent).

Mariah (talking about Glitter): "It's set in the early 80's in like the club scene and what was going on at that point.  And the girl, my character's name is Billie, and she grows up in a foster home, and like her whole, her whole character is trying to figure out how her mom didn't come back for her.  So (little girl voice) I don'thave that issue! (laugh) 'Cause my mom pages me every five minutes or calls me with jokes.

George: That's my girl.

Mariah: Hey, you know.

Mariah: Certain, um, songs from this movie were written to enhance the scene like through Billie's point of view, like there's a song - I always call "Care Enough", but everyone's calling it "Reflection" because that's the first line I sing in the song.  And, um, she's sort of asking the question "did you ever really care about me?" to here mom cause she starts, like, thinking about it as we see her, you know, evolve in the movie..whatever.. And so there are lines in the song like "if I'm not quite good enough or somehow undeserving of a mother's love".  That would never have come out of my mouth 'cause ma momma loooves me. But, you know, there's a different approach in writing these songs.

Mariah: There's a lot of ballads on the record because I wrote them to kind of enhance certain scenes, but then there are a lot of party records that are, you know, with DJ Clue screaming at you and stuff like that. So people that buy the album for a ballad might not understand that, so I had to really take time and figure out how to sequence it, what to do, and do little, like um, segways and interludes and then somethings that um....I need them to give me my copy, so Louise if you're listening......So..I'm excited about it.

Mariah:  This thing with the hand (flutters hand) that gets parodied all the time is like a facial tick. It's not like a choreographed move (laugh).

George: It's natural.

Mariah: And yet some people have it as though it's a choreographed move. It's something that I just have a problem - I do it in the studio or whatever.  So when I went to do - to be Billie the performer, it was like, that was the most challenging thing. It wasn't the acting, it was how do I not use my hand when I'm singing?

Da Brat Receives Probation, Community Service For Atlanta Assault
Rapper Da Brat received 12 months probation, a $1000 fine, and 80 hours of community service on Monday (June 11) in Atlanta for a March 2000 incident in which she pistol-whipped another woman at a Buckhead area nightclub (allstar, March 9, 2000), according to a spokesperson for the Fulton County District Attorney's office.

Da Brat -- real name Shawntae Harris -- struck a deal with prosecutors, lowering her charge of felony "aggravated assault" to misdemeanor "reckless conduct" in exchange for pleading guilty in the incident. Harris avoided possible jail time as a result.

According to police, Harris pistol-whipped a woman in the VIP lounge at the Chili Peppers nightclub after the woman refused to leave at the request of Harris and her entourage. The woman, identified as Rezue Robateue, suffered cuts on her face and received several stitches in her head as a result of the incident.

EXCLUSIVE..."It's Just The Way!"
The song that Eric Benet and Mariah Carey will be singing together in the Glitter movie is called, "It's Just The Way." Mariah and Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis wrote the song for the soundtrack and Eric says it's a cool song. Plus, Eric wrote a song called, "We Could Have Been" for the movie but he said it's not featured on the soundtrack.

In the movie, Eric plays a producer/songwriter who works with Billie later in her career. It was his first acting role in a movie and he said that Mariah just called him up one night and asked him if he wanted to be in it. How Mariah Escaped Sony

Forget Jack Welch. The best still unwritten business book may come from the pen of Mariah Carey. After her 1998 divorce from Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola, Carey--the top-selling female singer of all time, with 140 million units sold worldwide--made it clear she wanted out of her contract. She got her wish in April, with an unlikely assist from Jennifer Lopez. In January, a snippet of music Carey had licensed for herself mysteriously appeared on Lopez's J. Lo album, also released by Sony. In the world of music divas, such double dealing can feel like a slap in the face. Carey shrewdly used the Lopez fracas to turn the heat up on Sony and speed her exit. Both sides insist that it is "not true" that the dispute caused Carey's release, but it certainly didn't hurt. Despite owing Sony another album, Carey was granted her freedom--and promptly signed a megadeal with competitor Virgin.

MARIAH CAREY ``Loverboy''

It may have a title   and it contains the requisite sample that Mariah Carey's lead-off singles traditionally do   but that hardly makes ``Loverboy'' a song. The first single from the upcoming soundtrack to her film debut, All That Glitters   and her bow for Virgin Records   lifts the melody line from Cameo's 1987 top 40 hit ``Candy'' and plops a random series of sounds, shout-outs (including Cameo guesting), and swirling harmonies overtop. The result is bewildering, devoid of a hook. A remix on the promo single that includes Da Brat and Ludacris at least puts some action atop the beat, but still, the self-produced record comes out as a mumbo jumbo of disparate elements. A new project from one of music's most beloved and consistent cross-format stars is always an event, and radio will likely expose the track to the masses   but at what price to Carey's reputation and, ultimately, to her longevity? After such a prestigious record of hits for more than a decade, ``Loverboy'' sounds dangerously close to self-sabotage. The mighty may have fallen here.

Internet Rumor. Mariah NOT coming to Perth?
Katherine contacted me and told me that the article that was posted on the Mariah sites this weekend is not correct. Mariah will not be coming to Perth on June 23rd, but instead Marcia Hines will. The two celebs were mixed up, Katherine tells me and the article, that is false, is below!!

MARIAH'S DEMANDS ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR
It'll be One Sweet Day when superstar Mariah Carey comes to Perth on June 23 - for some, at least.

The singer, who has racked up more No. 1 hits than you can poke a stick at is making a one-off appearance at an invitation only gala affair at Subiaco's The Colonnade.

The $200-a-head gig will include a bevy of Aussie celebs, including fashion designers Wayne Cooper and Peter Morrissey, saying I'll Be There.

While Mariah's voice is music to the ears, her demands reportedly match the name of her smash, Whenever You Call.

Her demands? Pink toilet paper and $400-a-bottle Christal Champagne - drunk through a straw. Or so we've heard.

She also is a bit touchy about germs and, reportedly, requires a humidifier in every room and once had a bed built into a limo in case she nodded off.

But when you're a Fantasy, isn't that perfectly normal?

TRL Friday...Prize from Mariah
Ashley, Careyonmariah, Leo, Casey and Mariahhoney13 all told me that on Friday's TRL show, they will be giving away a prize from Mariah Carey, most likely the car from Loverboy Video. Also, it is still being said that Mariah will appear at TRL on June 18th!! We'll find out if that is true on Friday, when MTV updates their site for next weeks information.

Glamour Magazine
I checked out the July issue of Glamour magazine, which I reported about on Saturday's update and inside, there is a small picture of Mariah and it talks about the Glitter Soundtrack/Movie coming out in August. It is a REALLY small article, only one sentence long and it just has Mariah with her new blonde hair, nothing really new. I didn't even both buying it myself!! Check it out if you like!

E-mailing Coming Back
On the Request MC page, I removed all the e-mail links to the DJ's because when Can't Take That Away came out, last year, some Mariah fans mass e-mailed the DJ's, creating a negative feedback from them. They, in return, did not play Mariah's song and got angry. So, I was told that it is actually a good idea from someone and decided to bring them back on the request page. Please do NOT mass e-mail! Send an e-mail or two a day, spreading everything out because if you do not, you will only hurt the success of Loverboy.

Mariah Carey has an encounter of the exotic kind.
MAYBE SHE WAS JUST researching a few new moves, but I hear that on May 17 MARIAH CAREY and about 20 crew members wandered into Snooky's Bikini Bar in Lancaster, Calif. The sexy star had spent the day shooting "Loverboy", a single from the soundtrack of her big-screen drama Glitter, due in August. Coincidentally, as Carey and her entourage came into the bar, one of the exotic dancers, Sarah Blakley, 23, was shimmying to Carey's '98 hit "My All". Blakley, who is such a fan that she named her daughter after the singer, was thrilled when Carey picked a remix of her song "Heartbreaker" for Blakley to dance to. Carey left after an hour, but not before tipping Blakey $250.

Sunday morning I was watching Enews Weekend and they had news about MC. They interviewed her from the set of "Loverboy" and she talked a little about her past saying that its over now and she hopes everyone can be nostalgic with the few happy parts but that it remains in the past and she wants to move on. Also she said that she is expecting people to say that 'oh wow she plays a singer in the movie, that not a stretch' and actually she welcomes that b/c people are going to say what they want to say. E also showed a clip from  Glitter that I have never seen before. It was of MC walking out of a building in a pink slip dress, apparently meeting a date who was carrying a rose, thoe I dont know if it was Max Beesly the DJ b/c  they didn't show his face. The whole bit was about 4 mins or so, so if anyone missed it you didn't miss that much.

A few minutes before midnight Mariah Carey steps out of her black stretch limo. She moves briskly into the dark lobby of Manhattan's Tribeca Grand Hotel, a bodyguard in front, an assistant behind. She is carrying a bushel of roses. She moves across the lobby like a fighter plane: sleek, quick, shiny, and expensive. Her platinum-streaked hair is in a tight ponytail. She's wearing a stiff denim jacket and tight Sergio Velente jeans. Her shoes are open-toes and high-heeled, but they're not slowing her down. The words "time" and "money" come to mind. Her manager (also carrying roses) points me out and Mariah waves, makes a "just one minute" gesture, and disappears into the elevator. The whole episode is like the glint of a diamond bracelet.

"Let me give you a little warning," Carey says when I walk into her hotel room a few minutes later. Her voice is low and throaty, almost whispery. The room is filled with a quantity of roses not usually seen outside wholesale flower markets. "I'm tired," she says, though she doesn't look it. "And I want you to say when I should be concise, because that fact that I'm exhausted doesn't help in my ramblings."

"Have you eaten dinner?" I ask. "No. And I haven't eaten breakfast or lunch..." She half-sings the "or," stretches it way out; it's gigantic, hand-on-hips, wide-eyed, room-filling "or." But I do have the remainder of a protein bar," she sighs. "Isn't this glamorous of me?"

"How's your day been?" I ask. "My day?" she says. "My day has been going on for, like, three days!" She flops on the couch. Her face is made up, eyebrows plucked. There is glitter on her chest. Her shirt is black and sheer - Givenchy - she's got a black halter underneath. She has just returned from a meeting with executives from her new record label, Virgin, where she played them her new album, "Glitter," for the first time. Li! ke many music fans, Virgin purchased Carey's record without knowing what was on it. Unlike many music fans, they're said to have laid out an estimated $23 million - the most ever paid for a single album - for the privilege. "I made this deal without anybody hearing one note of music," she says.

"Were they worried?" I ask. "Probably," she says, one eyebrow up, as if to say, Wouldn't you be? Carey does not look worried. At thirty-one, over a decade after her debut at age nineteen, she is the godmother of the G-string divas, the Britneys and Christinas and Destiny's Childs for whom self-empowerment and self-exposure are completely entwined and sugar-glossed with a multi-octave range. Mariah's voice, however, is a Howitzer compared to most other singers' water pistols, her not-at-all-secret weapon.

Virgin is taking a gamble, but it's not irrational: Carey has sold more than 140 million recordings since 1990's "Mariah Carey." She has had fifteen number-one singles, placing her third behind the Beatles (twenty) and Elvis Presley (seventeen or eighteen, depending on whether you count "Don't Be Cruel" b/w "Hound Dog" as one or two records). Her hits have spent more weeks (sixty) at the top than those of anyone else, including the Beatles (fifty-nine). She had a number-one song every year of the '90s, the only recording artist to do so.

The new record is the soundtrack to next month's "All That Glitters," in which she stars. It's the story of a mixed-race girl who has been abandoned by her white father, taken from her black mom, and raised by foster parents. As a teenager she hangs out in Manhattan clubs, circa 1982, gets discovered by a DJ, galls in love, and becomes and overnight sensation. The affair ends badly; she looks for her lost mother. Which is to say it's about someone with more than a passing resemblance to Carey. Besides doing the ! soundtrack and co-producing the film, M.C. worked with scriptwriter Kate Lanier, who wrote "What's Love got to do with it."

"I had this idea four years ago," Carey says. "And people said, ''80s? Nobody's ready for '80s.' I said 'I really feel strongly about the '80s, 'cause it's nostalgic.' Some of the executives were concerned that it was too soon, and people weren't ready to go there. And I said "Trust me, they are" According to director Vondie Curtis Hall, "It's a classic Cinderella paradigm, like "Funny Girl." M.C., the hip-hop Barbra Streisand.

"Most megastars don't have this time or patience to get involved in developing a script," Lanier says. "But Mariah was hanging out in my hotel room, reading pages and giving me input. It blew me away." Lanier says M.C. wasn't at all the person she was expecting. "I was thinking pop. But she wanted to do something dark and edgy. I didn't think she would be that sophisticated or that smart, but she really is."

All of which suggests that maybe Mariah isn't the bubble-gum pop start with the diva voice, controlled by a behind-the-scenes mastermind, which, to be honest, is how I'd vaguely though of her. Today's pop culture is so heavily marketed, it's hard to imagine someone like M.C. without a Svengali pulling strings. And though she was launched by Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola, whom she famously married in 1993 and famously divorced in '97, she now seems to be the puppeteer of her own act, writing and producing records, starring in a movie that borrows from her life story. Her euphemism for the marriage is "the situation," and what that apparently entailed, besides a Cinderella story, was a Rapunzel story: M.C., trapped in her Bedford, New York, castle, longing to get out and take control her life.

Well, she got out. Sitting on the couch! with a glass of white wine in hand, feet up, she has the issue of food. Twenty-three million dollars will buy you whatever dinner you desire. What M.C. desires this evening is macaroni and cheese. "It's not what I should be eating," she says, stabbing it was a fork. "But hey - I did have the protein bar." As she tells me about her endless day, her face takes on a bashful pride, as though I have walked in her house in the middle of renovations, but she'll show me around anyway, proud of the changes under way. It's all a work in progress.

Right away I notice the eyebrows and the eyes. They have this quality - hopeful, expectant, amazed, as though she still cannot believe her life. Everything else about her appearance gives of a vibe of being smart, though, of knowing what's going on. The meetings, agents, deals, the two shiny electronic devices - pager and cell phone - that sit on the couch. Her hair, her body, her manicure, it all says celebrity, businesswoman, diva. But her eyes, particularly her eyebrows say, "Holy shit! Can you believe this?"

"I was in Spain doing the vocals for the soundtrack," she explains. "I go out the country because this pager and this phone" - she points to them as if they were demanding pets - "will continue to go off. And so I'm out of range there."

In Malaga, she worked at a live-in studio, leaving only when her boyfriend, Luis Miguel, came to visit. He is a "huge Latin superstar," as she puts it. "We got mobbed because they all love him. Of course," she adds demurely, "I have a few fans in Spain, as well."

I ask if they discuss their pasts. "A lot of men don't like to tell their stories," she says. "Maybe it's a power thing? Usually, I'm the one who's open. I mean, I've had intense stuff happen to me, but I haven't been through the wringer with lot! s of men. I could count on less than one hand the men I've been with in my life. I really hate the though of being intimate with somebody, and then it's over." She snaps her fingers. So was she a prude in high school?

"Well, no. As a kid, I would walk around with the tight ensembles on, and the makeup... But it wasn't like I had boyfriend that were serious or that I was having, like, intercourse with. I knew I wasn't going to get married..." She rolls her eyes, gives a loopy grin. "Well, I did get married, but I knew I wasn't going to be doing the housewife thing."

M.C.'s father left when she was a toddler. She moved thirteen times while growing up on Long Island with an older brother and sister and her mom, Patricia, a Midwestern Irish America whose family never quite forgave her for marrying a man who was half black, half Venezuelan. When her parents met, Alfred Roy Carey was "a swinging aeronautical engineer," as M.C. says, she explains that now he is no way swinging, with-it or hip.

"He thinks I've had one album," she says as if this were the funniest thing. "Honestly, he doesn't know any of my songs!" "I bet he's a connoisseur of your accomplishments," I say. "Connoisseur?" she says. "He don't know any..."

A few minutes later, M.C. is on the floor giggling, and her mother, a former opera singer - now ensconced in an upstate New York house that M.C. bought for her - is on the speakerphone, confirming that yes, "he thinks she only made one album."

"And what do we call it?" asks M.C. They say together: "The Album." M.C. is in hysterics. "We can't diss him," she gasps. "He's just not into music." Considering she hardly knows him, she's talking with real warmth, as though he were an eccentric neighbor.

The subject of M.C.'s father makes "Glitter" seem all the more personal: a Poor Girl Making It story entwined with a Love story and a Lost Parent story, and, finally, a Mixed Race story. "There are a lot of mixed-race girls and young women who hold Mariah up as a hero," says Lanier. "She's proud of that. For a long time she was encouraged to play up her white side. Since she's been allowed creative freedom, she has related more to black culture."

When I tell M.C. that her mixed-race backgr! ound seems visually, pretty subtle, her face softens. "Well, that's part of it," she says. "A lot of people say things that they wouldn't say if they thought that somebody, you know, black was in the room. Or vice versa. Or somebody Latin. I'm a mixture of a lot of things. Because of that, I didn't really feel like I had one person that I identified with."

It was around the time her marriage to Mottola dissolved that M.C. began working with acting Coach Sheila Gray. She'd acted as a kid, but in her "other situation." She was encouraged to focus on her music. "Sheila was one of the catalysts for helping me out of that situation," she says. "I was so blocked, emotionally. I sat on her floor and did relaxation exercises, and immediately started crying, 'cause she said to me, 'Name a place where you feel safe.' And I was, like; 'I don't have one.' I own, contrary to popular belief, half of everything in that mansion" - that she shared with Mottola - "and paid for half of everything, down to the electric bills. So I didn't have one space to think of. And she said 'Well, use something from your childhood'" The one scaldingly awful thing I know about M.C.'s childhood, which I don't bring up from this otherwise festive occasion with white wine and macaroni and cheese, is that, in a newspaper article, her sister talked about having been a prostitute and drug addict.

"So," she continues, "it was this burst of emotion, and I was just like, Whoa! It helped me realize that, like, this is not right. [Sheila] used to always say, 'Relax your shoulders,' because I walked around like I had to fight, constantly. I grew up with such a free rein. And suddenly, it was this enclosed situation. I wouldn't be the person that I am if I hadn't gone back into that and gotten in touch with myself. Not to sound New Agey or corny..."

A lot of these themes play out i! n "All That Glitters." "I think people will be blown away by her acting," Lanier says. "She is able to carry off a lot of pain and show a lot of soul," Soul, however, does not interfere with business. "I personally met with everybody," M.C. says of her label negotiations. "I grew up with some of the smartest and most shred businessmen." Before she signed with Virgin, Carey got advice from Lenny Kravitz, who knew her when she was seventeen, sleeping on friends' couches waiting for a break, and from Prince, of whom she is a huge fan. "I learned a lot. It's not like somebody can lie to me and say, 'We're gonna do this and this,' and have me not go, 'Wait, who's your distributor in Taiwan?'"

"I don't give a fuck!" The $23 million voice booms from the Elle studio dressing room. The controlled frenzy of the photo shoot has been compounded by news that M.C. has to fly to LA tonight to score her movie. Cell phones chirp, assistants swarm, and a guy in a suit stands near a briefcase guarding diamonds from Harry Winston.

"She's pulling it all together," says Carey's publicist. "There's the record, the single, the radio promos, the videos, the movie, the next movie..." The trades have announced that M.C. will star with Mira Sorvino in "Wise Girls," basically "Wise Guys" for women. The logistics of it all are an enormously complex algebra equation, a hurricane.

Then the eye of the storm emerges, in pigtails, loose Levi's, a green cardigan with buttons straining across her chest. She is teetering on pink marabou slippers, a glass of champagne in one hand; in her other, the diamonds, dripping and dazzling. Last night was business. This is M.C. unbound, feeling it. She offers a big "H!" followed by "I'm having the biggest fucking spiral of my life!"

She has a cell phone against her head, and she's talking about Busta Rhymes, from the sound of it, he may be in her next video. She notices me scribbling and, laughing says "You are seeing me at my most..." Eyes bulging, she trails off. Most what? Most perfectionist? Most confident? Most psyched? Most pissed off? All of the above? She's got a million words at her disposal; they come bubbling out like a fountain. She asks if I'd like a glass of champagne, sees hers, almost empty, and belts, "Will someone get me a glass of champagne!" Then, in a whisper, "They're probably trying to keep it away from me, thinking I'm going to get drunk."

The shoot comments and I ask an assistant, Jill, if Carey's world is usually this intense. "This is the most intense day in a long time," Jill says. "M.C. is the hardest-working girl in show business. She has a hand in everything." Right now, she has a hand between her breasts. She's mugging for the camera, rapping along to the boom box, using the flaunted glass, as an improvised mike. "Hate to sound sleazy, but tease me."

During the next break, she pulls me aside. "Listen, that stuff I was saying about my father. I don't want it to sound - I just really want to build a relationship with him." I assure her that it was cool, warm even. Her eyes get all soft. What an operator! I think. Not that she's insincere. She just moves fast, shifts gears, and moves on. She turns, and her fistful of diamonds sparkles.

"I need to talk to Busta!" she says to no one in particular, but everyone hears her, because everyone is listening.

New Mariah Carey On Its Way
If you've been itching for more of Mariah Carey's big voice (and other large assets) since the release of her last video off of Rainbow, then you'll be happy to know that your wait for fresh material is almost over. Although her new album, Glitter, won't be in stores until August, the first video will debut on MuchMusic and Musique Plus tomorrow.

"Loverboy," the lead single off of her forthcoming disc, features guest appearances from Cameo, Ludacris and Da Brat, all of whom will be appearing in the video as well. Directed by David Lachapelle, the man responsible for Moby's "Natural Blues," it features Mariah and her posse buzzing around a motor speedway in what has been described as "a never-before-seen adventure on wheels."

If it's anything like her other singles, "Loverboy" is bound to become a fixture on radio and MuchMusic, making this yet another summer of Mariah that will be capped off with the release of not only her album, but also her debut film. Also titled Glitter (the disc will double as a soundtrack), the film is set in the '80s and is loosely based on Carey's own struggle to break into the music business. It's slated to open August 31.

Mariah Carey: Charts Her Course
Considering that she just signed a deal with Virgin Records for a reported $23.5million per album, Mariah Carey shouldn't be feeling burdened with problems.

But she does have problems. Their names are Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez.

The 31-year-old Carey suddenly finds her position usurped by younger pop divas - Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Carey saw this coming, which is why she is trying to reposition herself as a pop artist respected in the urban world. Her quest to gain street credibility actually began with her last album, "Rainbow," when she cozied up to rap and had Jay-Z perform with her on the song "Heartbreaker."

Carey's new single, "Loverboy," is due out today. Jackson, who also records for Virgin, has the single "All for You," which topped the charts and is now No. 3. Sources told me that Carey has lobbied Virgin head Nancy Berry to lighten up on the promotion of Jackson's record so that more resources can be put into marketing her song.

Berry denied that Carey has done any such thing. "Mariah and I speak frequently," she said. "But at no time has she ever alluded to Janet in any negative way."

I've also heard Carey has called certain radio stations in New York and Los Angeles trying to dissuade programmers from playing J.Lo's single "Play," which is at No. 21 right now, to find more airtime for "Loverboy."

Carey's rep, Cindi Berger, denied the story, saying: "Mariah has never done that. There are programmers she knows, but she has never compromised those relationships at all."

I also hear that Carey continues to reach out to Eminem - again, in search of that elusive street cred - hoping he'll appear on one of her new videos. His answer, I'm told, is always the same: No.

Berger said that Carey and Eminem have gotten together on occasion. "She talks to every rapper in the land," said Berger.

More than 800 open NN fund-raiser for cancer society

NEWPORT NEWS - One by one, the cancer survivors -- more than 800 of them -- signed their name to the banner.

Then they descended from the stands at Todd Stadium and onto the track to begin the first lap of the Peninsula Relay for Life.

Their movements echoed those of other cancer survivors taking the same lap at Darling Stadium -- the Peninsula Relay's sister site in Hampton.

The event, which ends today, drew thousands of people to Todd Stadium. Some were spectators, others were members of the more than 350 teams working to raise $1.35 million for the American Cancer Society. The money benefits cancer research sponsored by the cancer society.

The survivors -- wearing red sashes and bronze survivor medals hanging from purple ribbons -- circled the track to the sound of continuous applause as Mariah Carey's song "Hero" played over the loud speakers. After the first lap, family members and caregivers joined them, followed by members of the medical profession who have treated them.

A highlight of the evening was the luminaria ceremony. Thousands of candles -- in bags lining the track -- were lighted in honor of people with cancer or in memory of those who have died from the disease. One could almost hear a pin drop as the stadium's lights were shut off and the inner-lighted bags illuminated the night.

Rain had threatened to ruin the festive mood Friday afternoon, but the dark clouds could muster only drizzle that lasted about 15 minutes. The sun then burst through the clouds, shining brightly as teen-age girls danced to "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega and young gymnasts entertained the crowd with tumble after tumble.

Earlier in the day, a torch relay officially marked the start of the Peninsula Relay. Called the "Flame of Hope," the torch was carried from Todd to Darling by 45 honored torchbearers -- cancer survivors, medical professionals, Relay for Life volunteers and staff members from the American Cancer Society's Peninsula office.

Ettalea Kanter, who started the Peninsula Relay in 1995, was the first to carry the torch, which was lighted by Rona Altschuler.

Altschuler is chair of the Newport News site. Hampton City Councilman Tom Gear is chairing the site in Hampton.

"It's truly an honor to be here," Altschuler said. "I never dreamed in 1995 that we would have a sister site.

"This was my dream, but it's not a Newport News-Hampton event. This is a Todd-Darling event, and there are no city lines today."

Altschuler described Kanter as "the woman who believed in the relay when no one else did."

"We have a lot of hope," Kanter said. "We hope for a cure, but until then, we relay."

Money raised this weekend will join the millions of dollars raised across the country for cancer research, she said.

And until a cure is found, Kanter said, "We work a little harder, and those researchers will work a little harder."

Relay for Life is the signature fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society.

Since May, relays have been conducted throughout Hampton Roads, in Gloucester, Isle of Wight, Suffolk and Norfolk.

This weekend, Williamsburg is also conducting a relay -- its first -- and it's taking place at Jamestown High School.

WHEN ELLE hits the newsstands on June 22 we'll get a new look at the pop sensation Mariah Carey. She is forever held up in the tabs as a wild woman but says here: "I've had intense stuff happen to me, but I haven't been through the wringer with a lot of men. I could count on less than one hand the men I've been with in my life. I really hate the thought of being intimate with somebody and then it's over."

Mariah's life seems a bit like the character she'll portray in her new movie "All That Glitters," a film she co-produced. She also wrote the soundtrack. Virgin paid an unprecedented $23 million for the music without ever hearing even a note in advance. Mariah's track record sold it!

Mariah in TWO MTV Commercials
First one, a "Gliter" commercial featuring scenes from Mariah's new video Loverboy and the Glitter logo EVERYWHERE! It says at the end, "Glitter Coming in August!" So they are already promoting the Glitter soundtrack, how cool is that? Thanks Greg!

Second one features a bunch of celebs wishing MTV happy birthday and Mariah is one of them and at the end it says, August 1st. So there might be a special, which will feature Mariah. Thanks Meg. Both commercials were featured during the MTV Video Awards.

Scott told me that Mariah will be on the cover of the August edition of Movieline Magazine. She is on the cover of the magazine and all she is wearing is a sheet. It should be out in the end of July! Oh dear is all I can say!

Mariah on Entertainment Tonight
If you missed ET last night, you didn't miss much. She was on for less then a minute and they just showed scenes from the Loverboy video. They had a nice little interview with her though and they said how she got her bracelet in the pop-corn and asked if a diamond ring would be coming soon. She held out her finger and said, "If it ain't on here now, then I don't know and neither do you."

This is from the June 18th issue of People Magazine and there is no picture (Thanks Courtney):

            Primping to shoot the CD cover of her upcoming "All That Glitters" soundtrack, Mariah Carey was going for a biker-chic look. So the star flipped when her stylist pulled out a photo of the perfect accessory: A $12,000 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R motorcycle that Noir accessories designer Leeora Catalan had customized with more than 50,000 Swarovski crystals. Carey simply had to have the haute hog pronto and requested that it be flown in from New York to L.A. Alas, the Hell's Angels wannabe could only pose for still shots on her dream machine. Catalan, not wanting the cycle ridden, kept the keys....

Anyway, remember I was talking about this DJ a few days ago? He has something against Mariah it seems, last year he was pretty mean, not playing Mariah's Theme when it was released, Against All Odds neither. Anyway, as most radiostations got the promo today, he even mentioned he would have it today to a fan, who sent it on to the dmca-list. So I guess alot of people where dying to hear it but he didn't even mention anything about Loverboy and did not play it. Anyway, I'm very happy I switched in time, cause on another radiostation, Radio538, they also "premiered" Loverboy and they made it into the "Make it or break it" record o' the day. So it went fast, and the DJ mostly let hear negative responses to the song, so it seemed most listeners wanted to break it. BUT alot of people must have liked it though, cause in the end it was MADE by 73.1%!!!!! So that's cool!!! I was SO scared it would be broken, which means they weren't gonna play it anytime soon, but hey it turned out good, now let's hope the public still likes it when the single comes out!!! Gosh I'm SO happy this worked out fine!!!

We caught up with MARIAH CAREY -- who cleared up rumors about her love life, HALLE BERRY and other scandals! Read on for Mariah's candid comments!

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT: This is your acting debut.

MARIAH CAREY: Well, I did a little thing last year in 'The Bachelor' with CHRIS O'DONNELL which was one day of shooting, but I've been studying for a long time and I really enjoy the process of acting. The whole process of acting, the whole process of doing a movie has helped me grow as a person. I'm really glad I'm finally seeing the whole thing come to fruition because there was a time when I didn't know if it was going to work, but the soundtrack has been so great to do because it's like writing to a story as opposed to just my own personal experience.

ET: How did it make you grow as a person?

MARIAH: Well, just because a lot of times, in a lot of things I went through, my tendency was to shut down and block out what was really going on emotionally. Otherwise I would have drowned in that mess. I don't mean just recent stuff, but my entire life and whatever situations came about. In acting you can't do that, you can't shut down emotionally. I had to really not do that and really explore why I do that and how it impacted my life and the decisions that I make.

ET: Was it scary for you to step into this film that you were also producing?

MARIAH: There was a lot of support for me on the movie. VONDIE CURTIS always has been great and I really enjoy working with him. He's a great person, he's really passionate about the movie and that's great. But no, it was scarier for me to go to an acting class. A bunch of actors who are working or aspiring to work and get up there and be people in the class, which is a very good, healthy thing for me to do, but was actually terrifying.

ET: Now, who is this hot, hunky, guy you chose as a love interest?

MARIAH: The guy playing Dice is MAX BEESLEY, who is from England. He's a really good actor and is really good in the movie because he is a musician as well as an actor.

ET: That's great. Do you have love scenes in this movie?

MARIAH: Oh, not real love scenes. No, there is a very good romantic dynamic, but there is no ... well, I'll let them cover the movie and see what happens.

ET: There are a few smooches.

MARIAH: I'm not going to say. Let them go to the movie.

ET: Oh, believe me. I think people will go to this movie. You won't have a problem packing them in. Now, I know you have ERIC BENÉT in this movie.

MARIAH: And there's been a whole bunch of ridiculous press that says Eric Benét and I are in some love-fest. We only have three scenes together in the movie. It's funny because people try to seize any little morsel of a thing to blow it up into a story, but yeah, he's in the movie and he does a really nice song and it's been really cool. It's been good working with him

ET: Do you and Eric have duets? Do you sing duets?

MARIAH: We sing one song together, which we have not sung yet, but we've laid it down.

ET: Did HALLE (BERRY -- his girlfriend) come to the set?

MARIAH: No. So, that was another part of the lie. Halle did not come to the set.

ET: Did she come to scratch your eyes out?

MARIAH: No, we would have loved to have Halle come to the set. But she didn't, that whole thing was a complete lie.

ET: What I was also going to ask you, which was in the papers, is about you and LUIS MIGUEL (Mariah's boyfriend).

MARIAH: Well, during a movie is not the easiest time in the world to be with somebody, but we find time.

ET: So, everything's OK with you guys?

MARIAH: Yeah, why? What was in the papers today?

ET: That he was upset because you can't find time for him, because you're working so much.

MARIAH: Thanks for telling me this. Was it in the tabloids? No, I mean, it' s really difficult. He was on tour last year; I went to see him on a tour all over the world. He came to Canada to see me. I went to Mexico in the middle of the movie. Oh, we went to Disneyland and Naples, Florida and we've been traveling when I get a chance and when he gets a chance. So, that's life in the entertainment world.

ET: That's great. Now, you guys have been together for a long time?

MARIAH: Almost two years.

ET: That's a long time. Happy?

MARIAH: Yes.

ET: Any plans to....

MARIAH: Plans to go on a nice vacation and things of that nature.

ET: And that's it. Wedding bells?

MARIAH: Hey, if I did I wouldn't say it on TV.

ET: How would you sum up the fun factor here? Are you having a lot of fun?

MARIAH: It's been really fun doing this, but it's also been a complete turnaround, schedule-wise, the six, five-in-the morning calls. I've never been in one place for this long. I haven't stayed in one place this long for like three years. I'm going to be sad when it's over, and it's almost over.

ET: When's it over?

MARIAH: Two days.

ET: Are you going to do more movies after this?

MARIAH: I would love to. I love this. It's been a lot of fun.

ET: What would you say to a young girl with a dream like yours?

MARIAH: I would just say do it if you really want to do it, but there is a lot that comes along with it, which is one of the points of this movie. You have to be really at ease with yourself and none of the extra stuff really makes you a whole person unless you get there because of what's in you, not because of the admiration or the money or the things that come along with it.

ET: Love the title, 'All That Glitters.' Is it gold or not?

MARIAH: We'll have to see.

Mariah on BET
I have two stories for you from what happened yesterday on BET!! Remember, it will air TOMORROW at 6 pm EST and the show is a hour and a half long.

I was sooo surprised there were only 80 people in the audience, the maximum allowed and I was so excited to finally see Mariah from a closer perspective.  On my way there, I met Joe, who also visits www.mariahdaily.com often and was going to give your letters out to Mariah... he did!

She was... soooooo beautiful that I even cried (I hope they didn't catch me on camera doing that lol) but if you do want to look for me I was wearing a royal blue tank top and jeans :)   (I have brown hair with blond highlights)

So anyways she came out rockin' this amazing blond haircut and was wearing a white tank top that said "Candy" on it.  You could also see parts of the corners of her bra, I thought that was extremely sexy.  She was wearing also a jean skirt and I could swear to you, even if it sounds sick, that at one point someone from her staff pulled her up a bit and pulled the skirt down and my boyfreind saw her black underwear.  I'm not trying to be a pervert, but I think it's so funny that we were so close to her that we saw... everything! lol

She was unbelievably nice and even gave me her autograph.  Everytime she looked my way I would smile and say hello and she would do the same back.  Let's just say that I was a bit tense because I love her so much but she made me (and I think everyone) feel very comfortable.  

Her new video is amazing, I can't believe I got to see it already but don't worry you will see it soon too :) .  If any of you are ever considering going to 106&Park as an audience member then I totally recomend it because the studio is very small and I was sitting on the second row so I got to see Mariah soooo well! At one point only a couple feet away.

I can't wait to check out the show Friday, hopefully they didn't cut me out :) but they recorded me alot so I don't know :)

Mariah originally wanted "Glitter" to be two cd's but in the outcome she knew it would be too much for her to do! "Loverboy" is in the movie. It is Billie's first single! She came out in a cute ass lil denim skirt and a lil tank that said CANDY on it she was so gorgeous! Okay, I was like maybe five feet away from her! So gorgeous! She talked about her little trip to the strip club and her parties with AJ when they had to hide the fun when a "certain someone" entered the room and ok so she was out on stage for like one hour.

They played "Loverboy" (How much do I love this video and the song?! I now like the rap version). They also played "Fantasy." When they played Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" Mariah was all "I haven't seen this" and she turns and watches the video.

Mariah mentioned how she loved Free's name. Wonder why? The camera men were filming my sign. I wanted to hurt Free because she kept looking at my sign goin "Wow, look at that sign" but never said it to MC! But atlast the saddest moment. Mariah was leaving so I made sure I had my sign up and then *dies* she notices it.... reads it *while pointing at it* and smiles and waves and has a slight look of recognition on her face.

My freind david was like "OMG! She looked like she really did remember you." But ok, so yeah, that was my day! How awsome was it? MACA is back in da house!

Mariah Enlists Original Cameo Members For 'Loverboy' Single
(6/6/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- Mariah Carey enlists original Cameo members Larry Blackmon and Thomas Jenkins to sing the chorus to their 1987 Number One hit "Candy" that Carey uses on her single "Loverboy," the first release from her new album--the soundtrack to Glitter, her motion picture debut. The song, produced by Carey and DJ Clark Kent, features rappers Ludacris and Da Brat, and remixes by producers David Morales and MJ Cole. Ludacris, Da Brat, and Cameo are featured in the video directed by famed photographer David Lachapelle. The "Loverboy" single was originally expected to reach radio June 18 and 19; however, the label is considering an earlier date. The Glitter soundtrack is scheduled to be released August 21 on Virgin Records, Carey's new label home.

Virgin has updated their site with information on Mariah being on tv this week. They said that VH1 will premire the video at 6 am, so that's an hour earlier then we thought and they will be playing it ALL DAY LONG!! Thanks to everyone who told me about this, there was quite a few of you.

Today, Mariah will appear at BET studios, to record Friday's show, which will air at 6 pm EST! Many fans are going to the show to check her out and hopefully tomorrow, some of them will send me their stories and maybe even pics!!

Jessica Simpson, Irresistible
Christina Aguilera's chief rival in the ongoing Mariah Carey Soundalike Sweepstake in which platinum-blonde baby divas belt and riff their way to dominate the pop and R&B markets - has thrown her hat into the ring once again.

To her credit, Simpson, now 21, sounds less like a Mariah wannabe on this sophomore effort, and uses her technically impressive mezzo with a tad more restraint. But if there's nothing as insufferable as Simpson's saccharine breakthrough hit I Wanna Love You Forever here, there's also little that's distinctive about these catchy but generic love songs, contributed by such ubiquitous pop-soul tunesmiths as Cory Rooney, Rodney Jerkins and Walter Afanasieff.

Even a romantic duet with the more accomplished Marc Anthony, There You Were, feels cold and generic. Simpson may no longer be merely a starry-eyed impersonator, but she has yet to develop a distinctive or engaging personality of her own.

Interesting Tidbit
For those of you who have the All I Want For Christmas Is You 2000 cd singles, go check them out. If you look at the cd, the title heading is spelled wrong. It says, "All I Want For Chiristmas Is You 2000" instead of "All I Want For Christmas Is You 2000."

Glitter Soundtrack released on August 20th in Germany
My sexy chop Dennis, from Butterfly-MC, told me that the Loverboy single will be released July 2nd, the movie will be released September 27th and the album with be released on August 20th.

EXCLUSIVE...Mariah Carey book hits the shelves
Molly told me that Amazon.com sent her a confirmation about the new Mariah Carey book written by Marc Shapiro and said that the new book was being shipped out. I ordered my copy from Amazon too but have yet to get anything about it in an e-mail. I did track my order on their website though and it said I should be getting my book between June 8 and June 14. So go order your copy of the new Mariah Carey book at amazon.com because they are shipping them out now.

I also went ahead and called two local Barnes and Noble bookstores and they told me they got the book at their warehouses on 5/1/01 but do not have a copy in stock. I was told they could order it for me but it would take a week, so that's another option if you want the book.

As soon as I get the book, I will scan the pictures inside.

Don't forget, that Mariah will be on TRL today sometime between 3:30-5:00 pm EST. Yesterday, she was on a little after 4 pm EST and that is usually when they have the NEWS segments, so she will most likely be on at that time today.

MARIAH GLITTERS ON NEW SOUNDTRACK
MARIAH CAREY has been working with funk soul maestro, one-time MOTOWN staff songwriter and 80's hellraiser credited with inventing "punk-funk," RICK JAMES, on her forthcoming soundtrack to the film 'ALL THAT GLITTERS'.

James, who has served time in prison on cocaine charges and for imprisoning and assaulting a woman, contributes a track to the soundtrack for the film, which is being scored by Carey, and in which she co-stars with singer Eric Benet.

The 'Glitter' soundtrack will feature a host of guest stars, who Carey has said she will name nearer its August 21 release date, although she has confirmed that Janet Jackson's favoured team, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis have produced the majority of the album.

Rap mix-tape kingpin DJ Clue has also produced the disco fave 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' while Da Brat, Ludacris and 80s funksters Cameo bolster the set - with their re-working of the classic 'Candy'.

Stars hit the big screen
Alfred Hitchcock famously referred to his actors as cattle. And he treated them in a way that, had they been, would have had the RSPCA inspectors round in a trice - tying birds to Tippi Hedren to better facilitate their vigorous pecking of her eyes was the least of it. So it's not surprising that sometimes the fawning, the fans, the million-dollar pay cheques and the wardrobes of free Versace just aren't enough for the average film star. What they crave, even more than a six-pack or a size two body, is r-e-s-p-e-c-t.  ...

It seems that for actors, directing is less a way to make terrific films and more a way to redefine themselves, to show us, the paying public, their true inner selves in a way that is even more profound and effective than hiring a new stylist. But if actors find their profession slightly embarrassing, they should spare a thought for the poor souls trying to get in. From Mariah Carey's debut as a rags-to-riches songstress in the autobiographical All That Glitters, to the truly chilling news that Posh Spice hopes to land a role as a poor single mother addicted to prescription pills in a Channel 4 drama, it seems that for pop stars at least, acting is the very pinnacle of respectability.

Mariah ON TRL #2
Mariah was just on TRL moments ago. Basically it lasted about 2 minutes and it's a Making of the Video!! Each day, they will show about 2-3 minutes, which will equal up to the MTV half hour special, minus the commercials.

They explained the whole concept of the video today, Mariah and the director. They showed her sitting in a chair, relaxed from those MTV pics earlier in the month. She pops out of a cake too people, how cool is that? DaBrat, Shawna, 22 and Ludacris will be in the video, so I guess there will be two videos again too!! They said that they will be driving the cars, so maybe there won't be 2 videos. We'll have to wait and see.

Attention Attention, FALSE news reported today
The story that I reported earlier about Mariah covering Pat Benetar's song, "Love is a Battlefield" was a completly made up story. I have removed it already, so if you have no idea what I am talking about good. Here is the reason why it was false, directly from Tom, the person who sent it to me!! I am sory to of misled all of you but as you can see, it wasn't my fault and now I have to question all the stories reported to me from fellow fans!!

You had such a good April Fool's joke with the Mariah message that I had to get you back - I totally made up the Pat Benetar story!!!  Sorry.  I promise I'll never do it again.  I'm sure you're gonna hate me since you'll have to do a retraction on the site, but hey, if you're gonna give it, you gotta take it.  I promise I'll make it up by sending even more articles than usual.  I thought it might be funny though to do a daily fake article like that Mariah and Eminem were comparing ways to die their hair blonde, etc. since she says most articles are wrong.

Please don't be too mad and take it in the spirit it was intended and trust that I won't send any more fake articles.

I am all for practical jokes, when they are done right. I do an April Fools joke every year and that is the ONLY time I do it!! Today is not April Fools Day, as far as I know!

Man, it is huge update today!! MariahCarey.com's news section has been updated today, June 4th. There is a lot of cool new information, including the fact that Mariah will be on Access Hollywood too. Plus, they linked to thiss site, Mariah Daily, how nice!

Loverboy hysteria!
If you live in the USA you probably heard Mariah's new amazing song Loverboy on your local radiostation, or downloaded one of all the soundfiles found on lots of Mariah websites. The song was supposed to be released at a later time, but because of all the hype and excitement and curiousity about Mariah and the new album, movie etc., Loverboy was leaked to radio as of 5PM EST Friday (6/1). As a result, Virgin had to go international with it and countries around the world can expect to have it by Monday or Tuesday of this week. A very important thing right now is to help Mariah, create some serious BUZZ about the song by requesting it alot on radio - please do this for Mariah everyone! Radio Station Request Lines

As said before, the Loverboy video will premier on MTV Total Request Live June 8, but you don't even have to wait that "long" to get a glimpse of it, because this week MTV will begin airing the Making of the Video for Loverboy. Mariah has been on "Making" one time before with Heartbreaker and it was a fantastic cool show and a huge help that got the video to be #1 on MTV for weeks! This time it'll be in a different format, because beginning Monday, June 4, MTV will have a new 5 minutes clip shown each day with different footage and interviews with Mariah each day until Friday, when the big premier occurs. Exciting!

It's a good idea to also support the video by voting on MTV TRL, here is how to do it. (Everyone all over the world can vote online!)

Finally some Mariah on TV!
Mariah will be returning to Halifax next week to finish shooting "Wisegirls." You won't see her in that movie for a really long time, but soon you can see Mariah on TV alot! She is scheduled to be on these shows:

BET's show 106th and Park, Wednesday June 6th. This is a taping, airdate will come soon.

Entertainment Tonight, Thursday June 7th.

Access Hollywood, Friday June 8th.

Loverboy already a hit with radio?
Mariah's single "Loverboy" has reached radio now and they will start playing it soon. Here is a great review of the song by Erik Bradley, who is musical director at Chicago's B96 station, one of the absolute largest in all of USA!

Mariah's new single "Loverboy" is classic MC. It's another vintage up-tempo, fun, summertime JAM that will bring Mariah back to the top of the charts once again. LOVERBOY is so hot... IT'S BLOWING UP!!!

When I saw the video yesterday, the first thing I noticed was the bandana and how cool it looked. So, yet again, Mariah is creating a new style. Here is a capture I posted yesterday with the new top:

EXCLUSIVE...VH1 premiers video early!
Jose told me that on today's VH1 morning mix, they announced that VH1 will begin to play Mariah's new video, Loverboy, on June 8th at 7 am EST. The video will then air every hour on the hour on VH1.

So VH1, will premire the video before MTV does later that day at 3:30 pm on TRL!!

Plus, BET might even premier the video before VH1 and MTV since they are recording a special with Mariah on Wednesday at 3 pm and later that night at 6 pm EST, they might air the new special.

Check out Project Glitter in the Movie Section for 2 more new scenes from the Glitter script. One is her love scene with Dice and the other is her first photo shoot, where she talks how she doesn't really like the bikini she has to wear.

I read on the Messageboard that some of you couldn't access the video yesterday. So, I have a new link for you. Check out MisterB's website,Mariah Style, for the video because he was the person who made it and yesterday, I didn't properly credit him because I didn't have all the information. So, make sure you check out his site and download the 20 second clip of Loverboy there because it's awesome!

Mariah denies Eminem affair
MARIAH Carey has denied rumours that she cheated on boyfriend Luis Miguel when she spent the night with Eminem. The singer and the Slim Shady star had been having late-night drinks at New York's Church bar in the Tribeca Grand Hotel when she invited him back to her apartment.

But her publicist said Mariah was just taking the rap star back home to watch a video, adding: "Mariah has worked with every rapper in the business and showed Eminem the video for her song Loverboy." Loverboy is on Carey's new album Glitter, which is due to be released in August.
