Capital Radio Interview
Mariah Carey Exclusive
Mariah Carey chats about her amazing career to date and what she does with all those awards!

Q: You've just been voted the best vocalist of the past two decades! How did that come about?
A: It was Blender Magazine and MTV 2 who did the contest. They told me I was in the top five and asked me to tape a ‘Thank you’ just incase I was number one - and it was! I was really happy, really proud and really excited. And it was voted on by the fans, so I have to thank them for that.

Q: How do you feel about it?
A: I am very grateful for that type of statement, but I can't really say that I feel that I own that title by any means. I feel that I do what I do, and I'm blessed to have the gift of music. But there are some phenomenal singers out there that I have to always give it up to.

Q: Who would you say is your favourite vocalist of all time?
A: It's really hard. Of course Stevie Wonder is always my favourite all around artist. But I'm also very inspired by somebody like Karen Clark, who's a gospel artist. I listen to her a lot, and I listen to a lot of Venessa Bell Armstrong. Mini Riberton, I've loved since I was little. There's so many - Aretha Franklin is another - but there's too many to name, I'd be leaving people out.

Q: You have won so many awards over your career to date - what do you do with all of them?
A: I have these antique award cases that my decorator got me. They mean a lot to me because many of them represent fans voting, and that's what it's all about to me. The awards are for lots of different genres of music, and as a mixed-race person, to cross so many different boundaries really means a lot to me.

Q: You've also just got your 100th certification. Just explain what that means?
A: When your record goes gold, which is a different number in each country, you get a certification - a gold certification. When it goes platinum, you get another certification, and so on and so forth. So, it means I've just got my 100th with 'Charm Bracelet'. The RIAA, the organisation monitors, gave me this blue diamond award, which I think is the first year they have given it out, and we had a fabulous party in LA, which was really fun. I was very grateful because 'Charm Bracelet' the album is very personal to me, and if it's not my best album, it's definitely in the top two because it's one of the most honest records I've ever made. That and 'Butterfly' epitomise who I am as an artist.

Q: Your mother was an opera singer. What did you learn from her about music?
A: She taught me how to harmonise, and a lot about breathing control. But I think the main contribution that she made was teaching me to believe in myself.

Q: Your voice stretches over an amazing five octaves. How do you go about hitting those notes?
A: It's just a feel thing. When I'm feeling it I know I can do it, if not I'll take it down low, but that's the beauty of singing.

Q: What has been the high point for Mariah Carey so far?
A: There have been so many moments that were really high points, but I didn't get to soak them in and enjoy them. This year - particularly with the blue diamond award - has been incredible for me so far. I also just got a Soul Train lifetime achievement award, which was really cool. It did seem a little early to be getting that, but it was still amazing!

Q: What's next for Mariah Carey?
A: I look at every day as a new creative moment. There's a lot of things that I'm doing that aren't necessarily music related, which I'm keeping to myself for the moment. As an artist there are a lot of contributions I can make that might make a difference - the charity work that I do is very important to me.

Q: On September 11th you dedicated 'Never Too Far Away' and 'Hero' to the firemen in New York. Tell us about that?
A: I'm from New York and still live there, and my view used to be of the Twin Towers. And now I look out of my window and it's just void. I think all New Yorkers came together on that day, and I really felt that the firemen and the victims' families need a pick-me-up, so I went to Ground Zero and did that type of thing.

Q: Let's talk about the Congretional Award of Honour that was handed to you for your contribution to youth work and non-profit organisations...
A: That was totally shocking to me. It's nice, but I don't do these charitable things to get accolades, I do it because it really means something to people. Particularly if you're working with young people and you can have a positive impact on their lives, it's really important to do.

Q: Any plans for a UK tour in the near future?
A: I'm definitely coming back to the UK, probably in October. I haven't released any dates yet, but I do know that I will be here. The tour for the 'Charm Bracelet' album is going to be very different for me than the other things I've done because it is such a personal record.

Q: You've collaborated with a host of top artists - how do you decide who's next?
A: It's usually inspired by the track or the record. I don't know who's next, it just sort of happens!

Princess Positive is taking care of the inner Mariah
For the driven pop diva with the one-in-a-million voice, fame and fortune were never in doubt; it was just a matter of when, writes Neil McCormick.

In the superstar stakes, they don't come much more super or more starry than Mariah Carey, the curvaceous pop diva with a five-octave voice, 12-carat smile, 15 No. 1 singles in the US and nearly 150 million record sales worldwide. The statistics speak for themselves: she is officially the biggest-selling female artist in pop history. But that is only half the story. Her rags-to-riches ascent is ripe with enough fertile subplots for a Hollywood melodrama.

Born in 1970, the product of a mixed marriage, a broken home and grinding poverty, she was discovered as a buxom ingenue at a party and married her mentor, Tommy Mottola, one of the recording industry's most powerful executives...

Mariah's Musical Movie Hope
Troubled singer Mariah Carey is hoping the recent successes of "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge!" will salvage her film career.

The star who featured in 2001's mega-flop "Glitter" is attracting interest because of her singing talents.

Her spokeswoman Cindy Berger says, "Producers are calling Mariah now because they all want to do musicals - but they want people with real voices, instead of having to dub in actresses' voices.

"They figure they can help her with the acting if she sings the songs right. There is interest."

Graham's New Bust Friend
Graham Norton FUNNYMAN Graham Norton has found a new bosom buddy — belly of the ball Mariah Carey.

Singer Mariah looked just swell as the pair filmed tonight’s V Graham Norton chat show on Channel 4.

She wore a tight-fitting top and jeans, revealing her tanned midriff.

Mariah, who turned 33 yesterday, placed a hand on the Irishman’s shoulder and slid her hip against him as he sat wisecracking at the piano.

But the 39-year-old gay comic is probably only interested in being bust mates.

He jets off tomorrow for a week of shows from the Big Apple — but we reckon Mariah’s male fans will still be thinking “core blimey”.

Mariah's Mission Impossible
Mar 28 2003

MARIAH CAREY is doing everything she can to win back public affection.

She is the biggest-selling female artist of all time, but nowadays that won't buy her a No.1 in the wake of a reported breakdown and a record deal that went sour.

But in the true style of a publicity-hungry star, she's gone back to basics to try to win back public affection.

Rather than hide behind blacked-out limos, she's been meeting and greeting the fans as she's plugged her new single Boy (I Need You) and the re-issue of album Charmbracelet.

Mariah celebrated her 32nd birthday yesterday and is now on her way to the Caribbean for a party, but she has popped up all over the place in the past week or so - with photographers close at hand, obviously.

Here, we look at Carey's very public campaign.

Mariah was also mentioned on yesterday's Daily Record:

"Mariah Carey flashes her cash with a belt of pure gold spouting the slogan `automatic princess' to match a brassy `AP' medallion coming half-way down her front."

Mariah Carey Brings Her Own Cook
Mariah Carey proved just how much of a good dinner guest she is on a visit to a friend's London home -- when she turned up with her own chef.

The singing superstar, 33, was slated to eat a meal at a friend's home on March 20, where she's promoting her latest single, "Boy (I Need You).

But the New York native was running late from taping a spot on British music show "Top of the Pops" and didn't want her friend to have to cook for her and her other guests at that late hour.

A source says, "When the show finished at about 10 pm, her driver took Mariah and her chef round to the friend's house."

The whole group then went to a local supermarket, where they bought a few ingredients for the chicken dish Carey's chef cooked.

One of the singer's impressed companions notes, "Mariah's the perfect dinner party guest."

Mariah's Acting Career Gets A 'Chicago' Boost
Friday, March 28 @ 02:17:03 EST
After the success of 'Chicago' and 'Moulin Rouge', the New York Post reports there is renewed interest in Mariah Carey for a musical role, despite her 'Glitter' flop. "Producers are calling Mariah now because they all want to do musicals," a source said. "But they want people with real voices, instead of having to dub in actresses' voices. They figure they can help her with the acting if she sings the songs right." Mariah's rep Cindi Berger responded, "There is interest."

Various Mariah Mentions

  • In VIBE magazine's April issue (w/ Fat Joe, Method Man & Redman on the cover), Mariah is mentioned in the "VIBE Raters" Staff's Current Playlist on page 48. This is a monthly page dedicated to the music that the staffers are bumpin', & they describe their choices in three succinct words. Of Mariah's place on the list, it says "Mariah Carey, Charmbracelet (MonarC): That heavenly voice." This is great news b/c they only choose 15 songs/albums for the month, and they are selected by music journalists. (Thanks Mary)

  • Wendy Williams talked about Mariah on her show today. She rumored that Mariah was asked to do a show that was on par with Chicago. She said that Mariah did not need to take acting lessons....all she needs to do is keep the waist tight, keep the nails done and keep the looks up and she will do better than most of the people out there. She also went on to say that if Mariah went to acting lessons, then she would have to cut back on her social life..and therefore Wendy will have nothing to talk about. (Thanks Harpelang)

  • From an article about Julie Andrews at the Times Herald: "Among other things, she revealed that she sings scales rather than songs in the shower, she loves peanut butter, listens to Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Patti Austin, “just watched the guys” as preparation for Victor/Victoria, wrote her first children’s book to bond with her new stepdaughter, has five children and five grandchildren with a sixth on the way, and feels that her good friend Carol Burnett “brings out the worst in me.” "

The Hot 100's fastest-growing track at retail is Busta Rhymes & Mariah Carey's "I Know What You Want" featuring the Flipmode Squad, which is up four positions to No. 14. "...I've just been working hard," said Da Brat, who dropped her last LP, Unrestricted, in 2000. "Even though you ain't been seeing me, I've been getting money on the low. I have my own little label and I have artists. Me and Mariah [Carey] have a group coming out called Baby Girl, [and] it's two girls. I've been doing a whole lot of stuff..."

"...Brat said her new record is going to mostly be lighthearted, but she will be kicking some hard lyrics as well..."

"I have a song with Mariah called 'Can't Let Go,' " she continued. "It's an automatic hit. It describes how I can't let go of the industry, I can't let go of the game. I'm always gonna be here."

Da Brat goes in front of the camera to film "In Love Wit Chu's" video in two weeks. "They're rushing me," she said. "It'll be two weeks fo' sho'. " Her album is slated to drop July 29.

    Mariah's Perfume
Alexandra writes: "I just wanted to let you know that, I bought the latest issue of People in Spanish (will be displayed until April 6, 2003) and they have two pages in the mag (pages 104-105) dedicated to showing artists and the perfumes they wear. They have a small picture of Mariah from when she was honored by the RIAA right before this year's AMA's."

Hear is a translation of what it says under her picture:
"No other scented oil has caused so much sensation as Kai. Don't let yourself be deceived by its simple packing; this fabulous fragrance soaks the skins of the most famous. Its harmonious base of gardenia conquered artists like the very talented singer Mariah Carey."

The mag also has a link for the perfume so that people can buy it online! This is the link.

    Mariah Carey has liftoff
IKWYW On AOL A surprise performance by Mariah Carey at a nightclub this weekend got mixed reviews from patrons.

The diva showed up unannounced at G.A.Y., a small club in London, and performed for the crowd of a few hundred. It was announced that she’d appear at 2 a.m., but Carey kept the patrons waiting for more than an hour for the 30-minute show.

“On the stage were around ten very muscular male dancers all with little butterfly wings on their backs,” notes one fan. “Then . . . a day bed is carried by more male dancers with Mariah lying on it covered in a pink veil singing, ‘Fly Away.’ As the song continues, the men all dance around the stage as Mariah was writhing on the sofa bed.” The fan added that “the crowd went wild.”

But according to another patron, “The audience [was] booing throughout and at the end, when the owner of the club gave her flowers, she was supposed to go back through the audience but they took her off the side of the stage.”

    MS NBC

    Now it's Mariah fairy...
HERE’S MARIAH CAREY acting like the Queen of Pop — but then she is singing in front of several hundred gay blokes.

The singer made a surprise appearance at the G.A.Y. club night at London’s Astoria and was a big hit with the boys.

She appeared at 2am and was carried through the crowd to the stage on a pink chaise longue by a troupe of body-builders dressed as fairies.

Mariah performed a half-hour set for the enthusiastic crowd, including her hit Butterfly and new single Oh Boy.

And prepare for shocking news — Mariah is NOT the diva she is made out to be.

The singer made the sort of backstage demands at G.A.Y. that JENNIFER LOPEZ and WHITNEY HOUSTON would be ashamed of. Normally, Mariah travels with her own lighting man to make her look good and has been known to have hotel rooms redecorated to her specifications.

But on Saturday night she asked for just two towels (to wipe her sweaty armpits), a bottle of water and some fruit in her dressing room (melons were not required).

Mariah, the world’s biggest-selling female recording artist, asked out of the blue to do the G.A.Y. gig last week.

LIBERTY X were scheduled to perform but delighted club bosses put them on early to pave the way for Mariah.

Mariah’s show follows in the footsteps of CHRISTINA AGUILERA, WESTLIFE, ATOMIC KITTEN and BLUE. Club organisers are now trying to get MADONNA to perform.

    Last Reports From The U.K
Earlier today, Mariah left England and has already arrived to Zurich, Switzerland. Here's the latest of what Mariah's been up to in England:

Ant And Dec's (Review by HunkyAres)
Mariah Carey performed on Ant and Dec's finale edition of their highly-rated Satuday evening show.
She had a huge response from the audience with lots of whistling cos she was wearing a skirt that showed off her legs. She also had lots of colourful dancers... and bubble machine... a wind machine... and her name on a sign in the background.
She mimed, unfortunately, she forget to open her mouth when the high note at the end of 'Boy' began... and had to quickly open her mouth and pretend she was singing! :-D Nevertheless, she got a great response from the audience!

Performance in G-A-Y Club (Review by Paul)
The audience were kept waiting for an hour, and of course this was at 3am! She entered on a 'sofa' carried through the crowd by about 8 muscled men. Butterfly was playing and she was under a 'net' which I believe was her cocoon. She then sang (mimed) 'Boy I need you' and 'Subtle Invitation' . The audience were booing throughout and at the end when the owner of the club gave her flowers she was supposed to go back through the audience but they took her off the side of the stage.

    Review by Joseph
Basically Mariah was scheduled to perform at 2am, 25 mins after Liberty X had performed....so we waited....and waited......And FINALLY at 3.05am the security guards seperate the crowd into two. The Huge butterfly, the same one used on many tv shows during the TTR promotion, lights up in purple and 'Fly Away' started playing. On the stage were around 10 very muscular male dancers all with little butterfly wings on their backs. Then the lights all focus on the partition amde in the crowd and a day bed is carried by more male dancers with Mariah lying on it covered in a pink veil singing 'fly away'. AS the song continues the men all dance around the stage as mariah was writihing on the sofa bed. She was wearing a long,charcoal/black skin tight Automatic Princess dress, her hair long and curly and an amazing pair of shoes covered in diamontes (I presume). Anyway, she carried on singing, got up, and when it was over the crowd went mad. She then asked us if we liked the outift....of course, the crowd went wild :) So, she lines the guys up and 'Boy (I need you)' comes on with the guys dancing in the background and girls doing dance routines. During the singing of 'Boy' She started taking her ring off and teasing the crowd with who she should give it to. Eventually it was given to a brilliant lamb named Sarah who with no doubt deserves it (Loud Lamb :) The next thing to come off was her pink feather boa which she threw into the crowd. I got this!!!!!!! But eventually I fought my friend and i got part and so did he. Then off came the silk glove and again it was thrown into the crowd which led to people fighting on the floor for it! Anyway, after all this she told us she was gonna perform something from CB that she hadnt done before. Then the music of 'Subtle invitation' came on and she sang it as if reading from a letter, a letter she told us 'she'd written to an ex'. After the song 'Fly Away' came back on and she waved goodbye to us, told us she loved us and left the stage. All In all the wait was worth it, especially for the first performance of 'Subtle invitation'.

    Mariah on E Talk
E Talk Mary from Mariahsfans transcribed this interview with Mariah from the Canadian show E Talk:

“I started wearing it and I found out that my father's mother had also worn one. Umm... and I never knew that, and my father was very ill in the hospital this past year and passed away, and I was talking to one of my cousins who was reminding me that my grandma had one that was important to her. So Charmbraclet’s kind of like has a twofold meaning, one is in honor of my father and his side of the family, kind of recognition of them and also umm... it's each charm says something about me as a person and each song on the album says something about my story".

“Writing sunflowers for Alfred Roy, which was you know written for my father was an emotional moment, singing it was even harder. I could just... I sang the lead vocal once, which usually I’m like nitpicking and going is that okay, was this okay. Even doing the backgrounds, which I did all myself umm... I had to just kind of breeze through it and you know it was a, it... It’s a difficult song.
I don't know if I will do that song live, but it was an important song to write".

“I never have thought of myself as like this famous person, because I’d never experienced the real ruthless side of the press, the media, but you know what, at the end of the day those people hiding in the bushes are only trying to make a living, unfortunately you know it’s at the expense of someone else’s privacy and you know life”.

“My fans are like an extended family for me, they get me through everything and it’s like, when they give me the feedback … okay like someone said to me yesterday, she was like you are saving my life, I’m going everywhere you go I’m hear, you know, these songs are getting me through the worst period of my life. I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t written through the Rain, if you hadn’t done this, this was a young girl! So I mean there was no greater compliment and there’s also no greater feeling of validation or like, okay this is my purpose here, like this is, it’s all fun and games to do cute songs like Boy(I need You) and you know cute, cute songs that make me feel happy and allow me to be fun in the video , but when somebody is moved by a song like My Saving Grace on my album or Through The Rain, umm… that’s what matters the most!”.

    Making A Splash
'All suited up, Mariah Carey (pictured in January) frolicked in the waves of St. Bart's in the French West Indies. It's apparently a favorite hideaway for Carey, who also sought refuge there last year after EMI paid her $28 million to terminate her record contract, PEOPLE noted in April' (Captioned picture is in Gallery 3).

    More Stories/Pictures From The UK
The following report is from Andrew, about Mariah's appearance in TOTP:

I wanted to tell you how amazing yesterdays TOTPs was and how good Mariahs fans where. The day was amazing - to update. We arrived early at the BBC - there where loads of Mariah fans (Always tell by the butterflys). We got let into the holding bay, had a drink and was hyped. We got let into the studio and warmed up - a band called Placebo played first. Mariah was on second, she sang BOY - without the rap in it. She mimed but it was amazing and she looked great. She had her hair in two bunches, a dark green tight top and a beigh skirt on - she looked brilliant!!!

As she came of the stage she signed one of my cds - and we where told she would be back on later FOR ANOTHER PERORMANCE.
They saved MARIAH till last, she sang BRINGING ON THE HEARTBREAK (More than likely going to be next single int he UK!!!) - She looked amazing - something like the video - very hippyish!!!

She had a sky blue top and a long skilt - a blue sequened butterfly on her back - it looked brilliant - she had beige shoes on like the boy video. The interesting thing was that a person (The guy with the dreadlocks - short from UK Mariah presents!!) shouted - I cant wait to see the video - SHe said " She is waiting to see the final cut as it isnt finished yet - so we may have to wait a bit longer but what she wore was like in the video!

    Mariah Updates From The UK
Mariah In England This visit is going so well for Mariah and her UK fans! Early Wed morning she arrived at 4:00am and had photos taken with fans and signed autographs. The mariahcareyuk.com team took the opportunity to present Mariah with a book illustrating our recent reluanch with all the cartoons. Mariah said it sounded cool and she wanted to read it properly.

Wed afternoon we saw her leave her London hotel to go to the Graham Norton show. Her ensemble was very appropriate for Graham Norton's camp show! She posed for the many press members and then went on to sign autographs again. It was really cool because there were some fans who hadn't seen Mariah before and they were very excited. There should be some excellent fan photos from this time at the hotel. Mariah spotted two of our team members and they got to ask her if she had a chance to read the book we gave her in the early hours of the morning. She said "Yes! I love it, it's great!" so we we're all real happy Mariah had the chance to see the work we've done on the new design and that she commented on it!

We spoke with a fan who went to the Graham Norton show and they said Mariah was the sole guest and performed Through The Rain and Boy (I Need You). At one point Graham presented Mariah with a music box and she said it was cute but then she opened to reveal an unexpected surprise!

For another part of the show Mariah had to throw a dart at a board with fans' pictures on from all over Europe. The one the dart landed on Mariah phoned to say hi! Mariah impressed Graham immensley by recognising and naming several of the fans featured on the board! Graham had to assure the audience that it wasn't fixed. It just shows that Mariah truly loves her fans and remembers faces!

Mariah On Top In Voice List
The honors keep coming for Mariah Carey - now she has been named MTV2's greatest voice.

The pop star, who is in the middle of a comeback following a breakdown two years ago, recently picked up a Lifetime Achievement prize at the Soul Train Awards and has also been entered into the Guinness Book of Records for having the highest voices in pop.

And now, Carey has beaten off Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston to claim MTV2 honors.

But the list isn't a true reflection on the history of pop as it only features artists who have had hit records in the past 20 years.

    The top 10 is:
    1. MARIAH CAREY
    2. FREDDIE MERCURY
    3. WHITNEY HOUSTON
    4. BONO
    5. CHRISTINA AGUILERA
    6. ALANIS MORISSETTE
    7. KURT COBAIN

Boy, I Need You, Mariah Tells British Admirers
Madonna is mad for them and Gwyneth is a convert. Now Mariah Carey has joined the bandwagon of American Female celebrities to fall under the spell of British men. The singer, in London next week to promote her latest single, said: ‘England is a really cool place and I like the men over there. They have a dashing quality about them.’

Carey, 32, also revealed plans for a world tour later in the year, with several concerts in Britain.

The new single, Boy (I Need You), is the second track from her album Charmbracelet, which has sold more than 2.5 milion copies.

Her success marks a stunning comeback after a disastrous 2002, when her £70 million, five album deal with EMI was pulled after her album Glitter flopped.

Her film debut of the same name was also panned. EMI gave her a £20 million payoff then she suffered a breakdown. But Carey, the worlds best selling female performer, bounced back with a three-album, £14 million deal with Island Records.

    For Chart Fanatics
    Robbie sent me the following bit which I thought would be quite interesting for those of us who like chart statistics;

"I work at a library and we got this new book in this week called Billboard's Pop Annual: 1955-1999. The back reads: "Your 'Must-Have' Manual of Pop's Yearly Parade! With 45 annual rankings of America's favorite music, Billboard's Pop Annual 1955-1999 (6th Edition) counts down Billboard's 'Hot 100' year by year, hit by hit. It's all here: the basic chart data and fascinating facts you seek for every hit single...all-new features such as songwriters' names and 'Airplay' and 'Sales' hits...along with plenty of additional in-depth information you'll find invaluable." Just thought you'd like to have all the Mariah info. Then numbers that run next to the title of each song show the single's chart history:"

Mariah - The Greatest Voice Of Our Time
Mariah Carey hits very high note on MTV2 list
    By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY

Mariah Carey is the greatest voice of the past two decades. So declares MTV2, which unveils its highly debatable list of the era's most unique and powerful voices at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT Saturday.

On the two-hour 22 Greatest Voices— first in a series of countdowns that also will anoint rappers, bands and performers — celebrities, critics and fans weigh in on the roster, determined by votes cast at MTV2.com. Freddie Mercury was second, trailed by Whitney Houston, Bono, Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, Kurt Cobain, Bjork, Celine Dion, Tupac Shakur, Michael Jackson, Chris Cornell, Eminem, David Bowie, Alicia Keys, Steven Tyler, Jewel, Thom Yorke, Mary J. Blige, Michael Stipe, Sade and Bruce Springsteen. Quibbles and quarrels are expected and welcome.

The list's diversity results from broadly defined criteria that go beyond "range and style," says Tom Calderone, music and talent vice president at MTV2 and big sister MTV. "We considered how the voice complements the music and connects with listeners. It comes down to how compelling and influential that voice is to people's lives."

Why no Billie Holiday or Roy Orbison? The list surveys only the past 20 years, a timeline familiar to MTV2 viewers and a period conveniently rife with readily available video footage.

Disco Montego Remix Mariah Carey [Australia]
Sydney based R'n'B act Disco Montego have been given the chore of creating a remix for Mariah Carey.
The results will be heard on the next Mariah single 'Boy (I Need You) featuring Cam'ron.

According to Disco Montego's Darren Dowlut the job came from out of the blue at a time when they really weren't after more. "We were busy working on Jeremy Gregory's new project and we had been knocking back work" he tells Undercover News. "We got a call from Mariah's label to our management and they offered us the chance to remix the song. We just couldn't knock it back".

Mariah isn't the only international act Disco Montego are producing. "In a two week period we were not only offered Mariah but then also the Blue and Elton John single 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word'" he says. "It is bizarre having their parts here in my house. They send us the mix in Protools".

Disco Montego have a new name for this kind of work. They are doing it under the pseudonym The Duke and MVP. "Dennis is The Duke, I am MVP" says Darren. "They are characters that we introduced as an outlet for our R&B stuff. We will use Disco Montego for the dance and The Duke and MVP for the R&B".

And what about their original name Kaylan? "I have not sure we are done with that yet" he says.

Mariah Carey's 'Boy' single will be released April 15.

    The Mariah Carey Archives
In the year 2005 a book will be published with everything Mariah has ever released, as far as possible. But for this I need your help. Although I already have information on 1311 items, the list is still far from complete. The book will be called "The Mariah Carey Catalogue", and will be at least 200 full-colour pages.

If you want to contribute to my book, you have to sent me the front and back cover of the item. The scans need to be at least 400 x 400 pixels. If you don't have scans, I will not post the item. I also need info on the format, country, catalogue number, tracklisting, and, if possible, any additional information. Together we can make this book something Mariah can be proud of. In return you will be mentioned in the book. Thank you for your co-operation.

    Mariah - #8 On "Rock's 50 Richest"

Mariah To Appear On Ginuwine's Album?
The release of The Senior follows Ginuwine’s hit soundtrack single “Stingy” from the film Barbershop (note: “G” also has the all-new song “Excuses” in Deliver Us From Eva). He also kept himself in the public eye via smash hit collabos with rappers Fat Joe (“Crush Tonight”) and P.Diddy (“I Need A Girl”). Both gentlemen show their allegiance to Ginuwine by appearing on The Senior along with Tweet, Trina, Missy, Trick Daddy, Nas, possibly Mariah, plus TV stars “A.J.” (from BET’s 106 & Park) and “Tigga” (from BET’s Rap City: Tha Basement).

"The Senior" is due to be released on April 8, 2003. The news comes from the official site of Ginuwine, but it clearly says nothing is confirmed.

Mariah Carey Enlists Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, Jimmy Jones & Freeway For Remix
(3/11/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Singer Mariah Carey has released a remix of her hit "Boy (I Need You)" featuring Cam'ron. The remix features new vocals from Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, Jimmy Jones, and Freeway, as well as a sample from "Make The Music With Your Mouth Biz" by Biz Markie. The song was remixed by Carey and Just Blaze, who produced the original version.

In related news, Carey appears on the song "You Got Me" from Freeway's debut album, Philadelphia Freeway. The rapper said that Just Blaze helped him get the pop songbird to appear on the track.

"I hooked with Mariah through Just Blaze," Freeway said. "I was on her album. She wanted me to do some things with her, and I was, like, 'Hey, you might as well do some things with me,' and we made it happen."

Mention of MC At Vocal Coach Lessons
When Frank Black takes a vocal lesson, he must look like Freddy Krueger taking a macramé class.

Never one to confine himself to vocal correctness, the former Pixies singer with the butterflies-and-broken-glass voice, the artist formerly known as Black Francis, the man the Washington Post once described as Leave it to Beaver's "Lumpy Rutherford grown up to be a mechanic" is a nothing short of a singer-songwriter now. The creative voice behind Frank Black & the Catholics, who play Orlando's Social on Wednesday, is neck deep in classical vocal instructions.

And he's sharing a coach with Mariah Carey.

Black had to swap lesson times with her the other morning. "I had the 8 a.m., and she had the 9 a.m.," he says. "She wanted the 8 a.m."

The earlier the better for Carey.

    B.O.T.H Video Coverage On TV
B.O.T.H Video A coverage of the "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" video shooting was shown today on E! News Daily, Extra and Access Hollywood.

Desiree told me there will be a repeat of E! News Live tomorrow - Wednesday at 7AM, 8AM and noon.

    Below is the EXTRA article:

    Mariah Carey's New Video
She's looking sexy and feeling flirty and "Extra" caught Mariah Carey flaunting some form fitting flower power.

It was all sunflowers and butterflies, sixties concert style, for Mariah Carey as a crowd of adoring fans watched her "Bringing on the Heartbreak" during the making of her newest music video in Los Angeles.

"Bringing on the Heartbreak" from Mariah's "Charm Bracelet" album, even brought out April Playboy cover girl Carmen Electra to watch her own lead guitar player, Dave Navarro, on stage. Carmen says, "We're kind of homebodies. So this is kind of a big night out, cause it's like an actual concert."

And what's a concert without a limo driver? He's hunky Guess model Damon Willis who'll get behind the wheel in a cameo appearance. But who would have thought the pop diva would sing soul into Def Leppard's classic metal hit? She says, "I like a lot of things you wouldn't necessarily expect. I'm not a one dimensional person."

No one knows that better than Mariah's record producer, none other than "American Idol's own Randy Jackson, who backs her up on stage too. He says, "She's happy. She's in great spirits. I think she is loving life. The record's doing amazing."

And with the "Charm Bracelet" world tour set for May, it looks like the makings of a charmed comeback.

    ‘Joe Millionaire’ joins Mariah Carey
March 11 — Looks like Evan Marriott doesn’t want his 15 minutes of fame to end quite yet. The former construction worker from “Joe Millionaire” has a role in an upcoming Mariah Carey video, says a source.

“HE’S APPEARING with Mariah in her video for ‘Bringin’ on the Heartbreak,’ ” says the insider. “She’s a rock star diva and in one scene, they’re together for a helicopter ride and then pass through a throng of adoring fans.”
Marriott, who has also done stints as an underwear model, has said that he’s interested in a simple, low-key life, but the source scoffs: “Oh please. His agent is shopping him around.”
Neither Marriott’s manager nor Mariah’s spokeswoman had a comment by press time.

More B.O.T.H Reviews From The Video Shoot
    Review by Nima:
Hey Liron, I was at the video shoot too, so here's some additional stuff people didn't mention: All the instruments were live and the backup vocals but Mariah's part was recorded so she could perform more freely. Before she came out, I snuck into the extras area where they were up close to Mariah so you know I had to stay till the VERY END. That wasn't untill 4AM!! But Mariah was so awesome because she stayed for like 20 minutes JUST to sign stuff for us and to chat with us. She was so marvelous because she was not rude at all; she went out of her way to sign everyone's things from posters, CD booklets to purses and my driver's license. She made lots of unforgettable memories that evening with her generosity. There was this lady who was biracial and crying so Mariah brought her up and everyone gave her a round of applause, there was also this little boy who was crying hysterically and she brought him up and talked to him for a bit. So we didn't leave the auditorium till like 4:30am cuz the security was kicking us out but it was sooooo worth it. I heard from the crew they probably weren't gonna finish till like 6AM cuz they had a hallway seen to shoot. But OMG!! That was a night I will NEVER forget!

    Review by Eric:
I was able to see Mariah At the Music Video not in person but on Stage, she was awsome, When we got into the auditorium there was a huge butterfly and sunflower made of neon lights, it was really beautiful. we were in the 2 to the front row of the auditorium, It was really awsome to see how the make music videos and stuff like that. It was a long long day though. We were there from 5:00 pm to 1:40 pm, Mariah Preformed B.O.T.H, like 4 or 5 times, and she was awsome, she wore a dark red dress, short, or course, with a train in the back that went down to her ankles, with open back and a Blue glitter Butterfly on the back right above her butt, with a shall/sweater type thing around her sholders, (which someone walked off with) don't know if they ever got it back or not, probably not, and before that she wore jeans and a shinny halter top kinda like the one she wore in her Rainbow tour, This was the first time I saw her sing live, and she was A double S.O.M.E. The video is going to be like a disco rock, 70's theme. Very sycodelic (not sure if that is correct spelling sorry) but any way She also sang parts of Can't take that away, Vision of Love, Subtle Invitation, and the Song from one of the divas live shows she did with Diana Ross I think.

She signed a few autographs during the down time and talked to the people that were down on the floor area (the Paid Extras only) A few fans were able to get onto the main floor and go up on stage (the "Crazy Lambs"), the only thing that I was kinda disapoined about was that during the whole time of the video shoot she didn't even look up or at the audience in the stands, Her True Fans (the non paid extras me and about 200 other people, She did look up and wave to us when she came out in the beginning when she was come out the do here interviews but after that she didn't. I don't know why, it was supose to be a concert setting so I don't know why they didn't film us or why she didn't look at us. So the Free extras are probably not even going to be show in the video, (which kinda sucks too) but it was fun, long but fun.

We also saw Dave Navaro I guess an ex chili Pepper, (but not sure If that was him I think that was an impersanator, because they were looking for someone who looks like him and plays like him for the video shoot. So I am not sure, he played the gutar and had some scenes with mariah. Randy Jackson was there and Big Nasty and Carmen Electra.

    More B.O.T.H Video Shoot Reviews
    Review by Spooky21:
She is a complete and total pro! She really worked the crowd when she got on stage at 11pm and I can tell you most people were very pissed cause some had been there since 4-5pm. But all that just dissapppeared and the crowd went wild. I really enjoyed how she singled out individual fans (many of them) from the extras. She even remembered letters and books she had received from fans. She truly knows how to work the crowd. I'm just was really impressed by how she treats her fans, i know i've read the stories here on countless times but you don't really know until you see her interact with the fans. Ther were ALOT of people there, a couple of thousand maybe even. I was pretty shocked, lol, and my mind was also working, "hmmm, lets see if half the people here bought at least one more copy of Charmy, that should boost sales a lil next week, lol"

Now I know why video shoots cost so much. People just stand around for HOURS doing nothing (well, it seemed like it). And it isn't the star's fault, its mostly the Director and other people who try to seem important. They had some poor girl standing onstage for hours while they tired to "get the lighting right" When MC finally got on stage, she went directly into performing the first take.

You guys have probably read some other descriptions last night so I just highlight some things I thought were interesting.

    - The auditorium was fairly small and the stage was designed with a beutiful blinking neon butterfly connected with a sunflower.

-Everyone was dressed in seventies gear, and Mariah's was a hippie vibe but obviously the dress was more glamourous. She had a long scarf-like thing that was tied around her neck and fell down her back and also her front. Her belt was loose and stringlike with gold circles (girls,....help , i don't know how to descripe women's clothing) The dress itself was burgundy and strappy and the front was cut almost as high as her crotch and the back fell down in a V-like point all the way down to the floor. like someone took a knife and just cut away the front in a clean line.

-They were mentioning some scene they shot yesterday so I'm assuming the whole Video is not concert/live footage. They also talked about a phone booth scene.

-Mariah was cracking up the crowd cause she was describing how she didn't want to be like a fake rock chick by playing a fake guitar next to Dave, , she said that was pretty corny when people do it, or that is not in her forte. She also said that she didnt want people to start thinking she was a hippee all of a sudden. hehehe

-MC really doesn't like close ups or has to be prepared for them at least. There was some dude take pictures and she kept warning him to let her know if he's going in for a close up. She said she was probably gonna hate most of the shots/angles anyway. She and Dave also took a few candid shots for the press but she and Dave reviewed them after the guys was done taking them (digital camera).

-The Big Nasty thing originated because Trey couldn't get a Visa to go to Brazil?????

    -Sanaa Hamri is the director.

-Mariah was filming something called Complete and Total Access (what channel/show is that?). Extra and Access hollywood also had some camera men there in the beginning.

-The band and backup singers would rock in between takes, that was pretty cool. Sometimes Mariah would sing a few lines in between takes. But she said the room was very smoky

-She is really very pretty in person and your fanship really does get affirmed when you get to meet her or she her for a long period of time!

I attended last nights recording of BOTH, here is my review of the show.
One word, astonishing. I arrived to the auditorium at 7:30, I had no idea that thousands of fans would be waiting in line to enter the event. The line was around the building when I got there and people kept coming. While I was waiting in the line a gorgeous Mariah Carey was behind the gates greeting her fans. She was a foot away from me and a couple other fans, waving at us and smiling, only a small group of people got to see her that close, and I was in that group. Once I entered the auditorium at 8:30, Mariah didn't come out until 11:00. I left at 3:00 in the morning. Yesterday was and will be unforgettable. The opportunity that Mariah gave to fans is truly a once in a lifetime thing, it was better then a concert... I got to be part of a music video by the artist that I have admired since I was 5. Astonishing.

    Review by Furb:
I got to "the grand olympic auditorium" at around 1:00 pm, and waited in line until 7:00pm. Before that, we watched mariah shoot a scene in the parking lot, by her jet, and the Joe Millionare guy was in the video too. He was opening the jet door for Mariah. Finally we went back to line, and me, and 4 of my other frinds were like to 6th people there, until thousands more came later. When they let us in the room, it was soooo tyte. The set had a huge butterfly and sunflower shining in the back of Mariah. After she came out, she went backstage to get into her "ensemble". Mariah then came back out at 11:00 pm, and was wearing this dark red dress that made her look sooooo fine. She has the most amazing body i have ever seen. After a couple minuites, she began to perform with Dave Navarro, and it was perfect. After the second take, this guy that worked there earlier came to us, because we met him before, and her said come with me. The next thing we knew, we were haging off the railing 2 inches away from Mariah. I think for a second my heart stopped! During cuts, she would talk to everyone...and I had brought her this butterfly ring. After calling her name for about 20 minuites, she pulled me close and told me how beautiful it was, and i asked to put it on her finger, next thing i knew, she gave me her hand, and i put in on her pinkie. She said thank you so much, and that she cant wear it because of the video, but she will wear it later for me. Then i also asked her for a hug, and she said she would but her make-up will get smeared all over my shirt, so i didnt get one, but its all good, i still luv her. I also asker her to marry me and she burst into laughter ,it was cute! Then i really wanted her to sign my Carmbracelet poster, and after a good hour or so, she came back, took it from me, and signed it right there! It was probably the best experience of my life. If Mariah ever reads this, I hope she knows that i love her so much, and her music has helped me get through the hardest times of my life.

    Review by Scott:
So, last night I attended the Mariah video shoot. I am not going to go through what she was wearing exactly, since everyone on the site pretty much explained it correctly. What was missed though was the concept of the video. It was NOT a concert footage in the raw. It was, indeed, a reenactment of Bette Middlers Oscar nominated film "The Rose" in which she played a 70's drug addicted rising vocalist that many considered to be the life story of Janis Joplin. Before the fans were allowed into the studio for the concert footage itself, I have acquired details that before this section of filming, Mariah was filmed, with various extras, being flown into the arena by a helicopter, being escorted away by police officers, and making a clean get away in her limo. I have been told this will be a small mini movie, with possible added dialogue. In the other scene, Mariah is wearing jeans with bellbottoms with holes, and a large size white furry coat. she looked wonderful in that. I think this adds a little more information to the video itself. I also believe there was another actor, semi-known, included in this video, though I was unable to identify him from far away. He was wearing jeans, a white shirt and a cowboy style hat, which he would, most probably, play her producer in which she falls in love with. From what I heard of the early shoot, and what we saw from the nighttime shoot, I think we have a huge video hit on our hands. As I know for others out there, as well as myself, Bringing on the heartbreak is my favorite song off of Charmbracelet, and I know we as her fans will have NO PROBLEM, supporting her. So, let's start requesting it now on radio and getting it out that this is Mariah's song to bring her back to Number 1 status.

    Review by Angel:
Alot has been covered except for a few things so i will only mention things i have not seen yet. Now where to start me and my sister Nicole both left to Los Angeles at about 7:30 A.M. When we got there we went inside the area where they were doing the first shoot and we saw Evan Marriot from the show Joe Millionaire. All we were able to do at that time was say hi. As time went on we then realize that the holicopter that they talk about in the other stories had a butterfly and a sunflower on the side. So then we start thinking is he in the video and much to my amazement it looks like he his. While filming, the holicopter goes up in the air comes back down and Evan comes out first to help Mariah out of the holicopter. Mariah then walks through a crowd of the paid extras. After we were let into the arena by the lovely producer Melissa Lawson. There is a picture of her attactched. you see the butterfly on top of a log stem sunflower which i found out was made by a company named Lights Of Neon based out of Los Angeles. I also found out it took 3 days straight to make meaning when one person got tired another went on just to be done in time for the video now that's dedication. Now after about 3:45 am for the people that stayed that long knows it was worth all of our wait and drowsyness. First of all Mariah comes out in the same stunning ensemble and says the fans there still here thank you so much for staying. Now this was a different set up where she interacts more with the fans and some closeups well she insisted that fans be let in front of the gate so she can interact with. Well guess what i was one of them chosen. She wanted us to hand her the sunflowers or just touch hands. Well during the first take she did her awesome performance again and while recording i was one of the people she touched hands with and let me tell you it was genuine. I will never forget that moment that she reached out with such compassion and a big smile while singing. That was my first interaction with Mariah Carey since seeing her perform at the Rainbow Concert. Let's hope it makes the final cut. So when the Director said it was a rap Mariah then stayed around for at least another 45 minutes to an hour signing autographs and talking with people. The fans that didn't get anything signed she said to give to Tim i believe and she would sign it in the back and she said I promise. I got my poster personally signed and my sister got her Charmbracelet cd signed. As we all know that Mariah Loves her fans and once again she strongly proved that. A question that i asked was when will you be going on a U.S. tour and she said this summer but doesnt know which venues just yet. I also told her we voted everyday and we were TRL Charmers she said really you are have you heard the new message i said no i havent heard a new one for a few weeks and she gets on the mic to say ok charmers don't forget to check out the new message on the website. I checked there hasn't been one since Feb 22nd so maybe it will be something to look forward to real soon. They did take several pictures after the shoot so maybe they will be on the website soon. One Last thing All Access the documentary project for Mariah was filming there. Hopefully me my sister and several other wonderful Mariah fans we met that were with us in the front of the line you know who you are come out on it. We sang a early Happy Birthday song and said an introduction for the Total Access crew.

The reason she had to leave to go to the back is because they said there was going to be another scene shot that night. Sounds like the video is going to be very exciting.

    Automatic Princess
Automatic Princess What exactly is Automatic Princess? We don't know for sure, but apparently it is Mariah's new clothing line. Mariah's been sporting a glitterish accessory that reads "Automatic Princess" in the video to 'I Know What You Want' along with a chain that has a logo she designed (picture to your right). She told ET that she designed what she wore by herself and Molly told us that on VH1, they spoke about how the set was designed around Mariah's outfit and that it was all Mariah's idea.

    B.O.T.H Video Shoot Details
    Review by Jacer:
Lawrence and I got to the location at about 5PM, waited two and a half hours to actually get into the building, and Mariah didn't even come on stage until 11PM to finally start the shoot. It was well worth it, though. While we were waiting, E! came into the crowd and got people on camera (including myself -- so look for me!), Dave Navarro stopped by to greet the crowd, as well as his amazingly beautiful fiancé, Carmen Electra, and Mariah herself came out to say hi before leaving to change into her "ensemble."

When Mariah got back, she was dressed in the most breathtaking dark red dress that looked like second skin on her (I admired the enthusiasm with which it clinged on to her for dear life). She's alot skinnier in person (not to mention, drop-dead gorgeous). TV really does add weight -- and the naysayers who claim that her album and magazine covers are airbrushed obviously haven't seen her in real life.

The concept of the video is fairly simple -- concert footage of her performing the song and crowd reaction to her performance. But it's not typical Mariah. Unlike "Hero" and "Thank God I Found You" (also concert footage videos), in this she exhibits far more sexual prowess with a certain aggressiveness we don't usually see from her. She manipulated the mic stand like the second coming of Elvis; her interaction with Dave Navarro created fireworks that put the pyrotechnics to shame; and her entire performance said 'fierce untamed lioness' rather than 'sultry sex kitten' -- a welcome attitude adjustment from the girly campiness Mariah seems to embrace lately.

Mariah's stage presence is nothing short of awesome. She exists at a level of celebrity that makes other famous subjects pale in comparison. When she walked onto stage, it was like time took backseat and she took the wheel; by the time they finished four takes, three hours had already gone by and it was already almost 2AM.

    Review by Rachel:
Mariah is VERY beautiful. She's wearing a red dress with this long, thin gray scarf with this zebra print, sheer jacket over it. In the middle of the performance she throws the jacket into the audience and some guy walked away with it.

Anyway, there was a lot of down time where Mariah just talked with the audience. Some girl sang VOL BEAUTIFULLY and Mariah was really feelin it. Another girl said her prom is coming up and that she really likes Mariah's dress and she wants it then Mariah goes "What size are you?" "Size 0" "Then honey, you ain't gonna fit into it" Then someone else said they were a size 3 then she said the dress only comes in size 2 or 4 and it ain't either of those either! But then later she said if you really want it, she can have it.

MC also sang parts of CTTA, MIH, Lullaby, and some other song. She hit a couple of high notes too and the crowd went wild. Dave Navarro was there in the video and him and Mariah were vibing a lot. Very hot. And Randy Jackson was of course there, in the video. Carmen Electra was there but not in the video, just to support her fiance probably.

    Review by Alex:
The video set is like a concert...with a neon butterfly and sunflower in the background, we had to wait like 5 hrs until she finally came out and when she did she sang bringin on the heartbreak about 4 - 5 times, and then in between takes, she sang some acapella! she sang parts of her songs in acapella - ctta, vision of love, dreamlover, and a lot of Subtle Invitation. She was wearing a dark red low cut dress and holding a scarf like thing. There were probably about 200 people there and some other hired/paid actors on the floor acting like fans. There were some fireworks in the background, Mariah was standing...and walking around, moving up and down stage and at the end she was on her knees. During the guitar solo part, she walks and stands next to the guitarist who was Dave Navarro (ex Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist).

Packed Club Forced To Shut Down
The swanky Belmont nightclub was shut down early Thursday during a party attended by Mariah Carey and Leonardo DiCaprio because the bar attendance exceeded capacity, authorities said.

During a routine check of The Belmont, 747 N. La Cienega Blvd., officials found it dangerously overcrowded, said Inspector Kendall McCarthy of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"I was driving by the club and saw about 50 people outside and I couldn't find parking. That's usually a sign of a problem," McCarthy said. "As soon as I walked in, it was shoulder to shoulder. It was really packed."

McCarthy found 211 people inside the club, which has a posted limit of 149, he said. He also found an emergency exit with a key lock, which is illegal, and a patio doorway fitted with a sliding glass door

Busta Rhymes, Mariah Carey Steal Page From R. Kelly's 'Down Low' For New Video
If you take a pinch of "Pulp Fiction," a taste of R. Kelly's "Down Low" clip, a couple of high-speed vehicles and two of music's most recognizable superstars, you have Busta Rhymes' new video for "I Know What You Want."

After two consecutive days of production on the video with director Chris Robinson, the clip, which features Mariah Carey and the Flipmode Squad, wrapped Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The video for "I Know What You Want" starts with actor Ving Rhames, who starred in "Pulp Fiction," enlisting his old buddy Bussa Bus to play bodyguard and protect his wife from some bad guys. Turns out that Ving has some serious beef with someone and needs to leave town for a while.

Bus and company temporarily move into the couple's mansion, but things get complicated quickly after the longhaired MC, who's supposed to be on the lookout for danger, can't take his eyes off of his friend's wife. (Wouldn't you know — the damsel in danger is a knockout.) The plot thickens when Busta discovers he's equally alluring to the distressed beauty. The video's action isn't just limited to love scenes, however. Robinson included an amped-up vehicle chase scene as well.

Luckily for Mariah Carey, she doesn't have to get behind the wheel, bust any guns or worry about Busta's dreds falling in her face when they kiss. According to a spokesperson for Busta, the high-note-hitting singer's role is limited only to performing with the rest of the Flipmode Squad.

Away from the video set, Busta has been keeping busy in the studio working on albums by Rah Digga and Flipmode as well as his own LP. No details or album drop dates have been released, but in January, 50 Cent, who shares the same manager as Rhymes, disclosed that he had been in the studio working with the animated microphone fiend.

The clip is scheduled to air in a couple of weeks.

Ving Rhames Joins Busta Rhymes, Mariah Carey, & Flipmode Squad For New Video
Ving Rhames (3/5/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Rapper Busta Rhymes, the Flipmode Squad, and Mariah Carey were joined by actor Ving Rhames in Los Angeles earlier this week to shoot the video for Rhymes's latest single, "I Know What You Want." The clip, which was directed by Chris Robinson and Rhymes, was inspired by comic-book artist Frank Miller and his most extensive work, Sin City.

In the video, Busta Rhymes and the Flipmode Squad are called upon to protect Rhames's wife, Eva, while Rhames is away on a dangerous mission, and sparks fly between Rhymes and Eva. The end of the clip turns into an action adventure complete with assassins on motorcycles as the music changes to Busta Rhymes's "Call An Ambulance."

The Secrets of Mariah's New Video!
    IKWYW Vid March 05, 2003
MARIAH CAREY and BUSTA RHYMES are making beautiful music together. No, they are not a hot new couple. Rather, the two friends hooked up to work together for the second time on Busta's upcoming video for his new single, "I Know What You Want," from his Take It Off album.

"Busta came up with the concept which is a hybrid," CHRIS ROBINSON, the video's director, tells ET's MARK STEINES. "It's an homage to a JET LI movie 'The Defender,' where he has to protect his friend's girlfriend and there is an attraction between them."

The shoot takes place over three days in Malibu, CA, in as surreal a glass-and-steel-architectured house as Robinson could find. The set was designed to match Mariah's outfit.

"My stylist BLAIR and I went for a Harley-Davidson-inspired ensemble plus the Automatic Princess, which you will be seeing more of later on," Mariah tells ET. "It is Harley-Davidson meets hip-hop."

For a sneak peek at the upcoming video, tune in to tonight's ET!

    MARIAH CAREY/THE CHORUS
The connective tissue for this song and video is the chorus. “ Baby if you give it to me, etc.” Mariah will propel the heat of our narrative by giving us a performance that builds in intensity and sensuality with each chorus, building to a crescendo of energy – Mariah’s ad-libs, breakdown, and outro chorus will parallel the pace of the narrative.

We will have several performances of Mariah throughout the hotel location. We will see her on the surveillance monitors in a very voyeuristic kind of performance as she is being watched by several small lipstick cameras. We will also capture a performance in a long hallway that seems to never end. I want to give Busta and Mariah’s performance together the feeling of Meth and Mary J in the “ All I Need “ video. The visuals will be sensual yet simplistic creating a connection between Mariah, Busta and our audience. Mariah’s sensual delivery of the chorus will accentuate the mood and sexual tension of our storyline. The production value here will be all about Mariah herself adding her star power to the song and the imagery of Mariah and Busta together – two music video icons together - will be incredible. I will shoot in 35mm film for best possible picture quality.

    Mariah In UK Magazines
Two magazines are now avaliable with MC cover stories- the March issues of Vibe and UK-based Pride magazine.
As you know Vibe has the black- bianca wig shots. MC is also mentioned as no.3 in their greatest ever remixes list (dreamlover/morales), an article about the trend for female performers to strip off and a feature looking at former best new artist grammy winners to see if they lasted or disappeared.

Pride sadly has largely pictures we've seen before in 'You' magazine. Those who went to Fame Academy may be interested to know the interview took place at Shepprton studios. The magazine has a theme of parenthood this month so they've decided not to go over the whole breakdown story and instead talk about MC's close relationship with her mother.
