Mariah Calls Victim of 'Bogus' E-Mail
Thursday, May 29, 2003
By Catherine Donaldson-Evans

NEW YORK — A 10-year-old Mariah Carey fan got her wish to talk to the diva after a prankster sent the girl a nasty e-mail claiming to be the singer, the pop star's spokesman said Thursday.

The incident began when Michelle Katz's grandmother, Dee Hofland, wrote an e-mail to what she thought was Carey's official Web site. Writing on behalf of her granddaughter, Hofland asked for an audience with the singer. Michelle, who is blind, idolizes the singer and was crushed after Carey canceled the St. Paul concert the girl and her grandmother had hoped to attend.

But the response Hofland received was appalling — and not from Carey or anyone who works for her, insisted the singer's publicist, Cindy Berger, who called the e-mail "completely bogus."

"Miss, with all due respect, I have my own problems. I have no time to accommodate everyone else’s," the e-mail to Katz read. "My sister is suffering HIV right now. Is anyone worried about my problems? Some people can be so damn selfish. Next time you e-mail me with any requests, you will be reported. Have a great day! m.c."

Carey called the girl directly after learning of the experience, according to Berger.

"Mariah spoke to the little girl’s father, Bill Katz, and he put the little girl, Michelle, on phone," Berger said. "Mariah assured her that e-mail response she got came from a bogus Web site, not an official site."

Now Katz may get her wish to meet the pop diva in person. "Mariah is looking forward to meeting Michelle and her family backstage at a concert during her Charmbracelet tour," said Berger.

Hofland said her granddaughter admires Carey so much she has learned to play some of her songs on the piano.

"Mariah is her imaginary friend. She takes Mariah everywhere with her," Hofland said. "When I pick her up, Mariah Carey is in the car. She absolutely adores her."

The fake e-mail, which came from an AOL address, is being investigated by AOL, according to Berger.

Fox News

Note: The above article contains quotes from Mariah's publicist, Cindy Berger, about the actual chain of events. A lot of stations / articles are reporting a false story (i.e not mentioning the clarified part about the fake e-mail address) so please ignore them. Just another proof for why we shouldn't always believe everything we hear/read until getting an official confirmation/denial.

New Voice Message
Click To Enlarge Mariah left a new voice message in her official site. Here's the transcript, thanks to Mariah-Carey.org:

"Hi! [high octave] Yeah, I haven’t spoken to you in a while. I just wanted to say hey to everybody out there and thank you so much for everything that you are doing, as always. I wanted to send a special shout out to all the New York area lambs, Charmers and Honey B. Fly members; I love you much.

I also wanted to say remember to come on down to the Today Show tomorrow, Friday, May 30th, ‘cause that’s what we’re gonna be doing. We’re gonna be doing a little show and if you get there early and get a good spot, stick around after the show so I can try to say hi to you guys and stuff.

And also, don’t forget the Z100 Zootopia is this Sunday, June 1st. So, if you haven’t got your nice tickets already, go get them now before it’s too late.

All right, I'll see you there. I love you much, appreciate you and enjoy you. Bye, bye! [high octave]

Mariah Carey show scheduled for July 26 at Xcel Energy Center cancelled
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Mariah Carey, who will embark on her first world tour in over three years on June 21st in Seoul, Korea, has decided to restructure the U.S. leg of the tour. The Charmbracelet 2003 World Tour was originally scheduled to play arenas across the U.S., but now the revamped schedule is expected to feature more intimate theater-style venues, bringing Carey closer to her loyal fans.

Tour dates in Manchester, NH; Chicago, IL; and Toronto, ON, will go on as scheduled. Mariah Carey regrets that the new theater routing now conflicts with the Xcel Energy Center show date. The July 26 show scheduled for Xcel Energy Center has been cancelled.

Fans that have purchased tickets for the Xcel Energy Center concert can obtain refunds or exchanges for the performance at their original point of purchase. For online purchases from Ticketmaster.com, call the Ticketmaster customer service in St. Paul at (651) 989-5151.

For Mariah, a Smaller Tour
Carey to perform at 'more intimate' theater-size venues, not arenas
May 28, 2003

Either Mariah Carey wants to get intimate with her fans, or tour producers may have over-estimated the drawing power of a pop diva.

After much hype and the best-laid plans of agent and promoter, the North American leg of Carey's upcoming "Charmbracelet" world tour is being scaled back from arenas to theater-sized venues.

Despite efforts to spin this move as making the trek "something special," tours are almost always scaled back for one reason: lower-than-expected ticket sales. But Carey's handlers say this is not the case this time. "Mariah had been speaking to people, monitoring her Web site and listening to her fans, and the resounding note she heard was her fans wanted to see her in a more intimate environment and were less concerned about the big production aspects of an arena tour," said Carey's agent, John Marx, a senior vice president of contemporary music at the William Morris Agency. "Mariah informed us she wanted to have a more intimate setting, and we started to rebook into smaller, more intimate venues."

Beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea, the 47-date "Charmbracelet" world tour, Carey's first in more than three years, was to be her most extensive yet.

The North American leg was scheduled to begin July 18 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska, and conclude Sept. 23 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. Local dates had included Sept. 17 at Madison Square Garden and Sept. 20 at Nassau Coliseum. New dates and venues could be announced within days.

The tour had a gross potential of about $16million. Now, it may not gross anywhere near that much after being downsized from arenas in the 10,000- to 20,000-capacity range to theaters typically in the 5,000- to 8,000-seat range. Carey is still scheduled to perform as part of Z-100's "Zootopia" concert Sunday at Giants Stadium.

Da Brat to hit road with Mariah Carey
(May. 28, 2003) *Da Brat is yet another of our favorite performers that have been on a bit of a hiatus as of late. But she’s on her way back to the limelight sooner than you might think.

In fact, she’s returning with the “Limelite, Luv and Niteclubz” … seeing as though that’s the title of her new set and all.

On the set she takes the listeners to a place that she has seldom gone ... into her previous, heartbreaking relationships.

This summer you might get a chance to see the Windy City born MC's skills live and in person if you check out Mariah Carey's tour in support of her latest LP, Charmbracelet. Brat will do selected dates.

Cry-er Carey
If you've ever found yourself at the sharp end of a relationship break-up playing the same Mariah Carey ballads over and over again while you drench ten boxes of tissues with tears and snot, you're in pretty good company. It seems that Mariah herself has been there and done that, and finds her own voice remarkably comforting.

She told the Sun: "It can be healthy to listen to sad songs like 'Bringing On The Heartbreak' and cry for a while. But then listen to a happy song - and think about the next man."

She also claims that the wild ways of other pop stars (like Lee Blue, just to pick a name at random) are not for her. She said: "I'm still single and I don't have casual sex. I don't like it. I'm waiting for a proper relationship. I know people who have one-night stands but that's not for me."

That'll be the end of your plans for a horizontal Mazza duet, Duncan Blue...

Carey makes hotel staff cringe
28/05/2003 - 09:33:16
Mariah Carey takes divadom to new heights when she checks into the posh Shore Club hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
Her requests include honey served only in a bear-shaped plastic bottle; ten humidifiers spread out in her suite; and a treadmill by her bed. If any of these requests aren’t filled out to the letter staff heads roll.
Remember this is the woman that’s gone on record saying “I don’t do stairs.”
But being a diva doesn’t come cheap.
Price tag for her last week-long say: a paltry $70,000!

Source:
IOL

Miami is the new New York. Two weeks before every big-name celeb in urban music invades South Beach for round-the-clock festivities over Memorial Day weekend, South Florida is already poppin'.

Mariah Carey steps out of her limo in a bikini and sandals to walk up to her hotel. A few blocks down, a tattooed Mike Tyson, who's down here training for his next fight, eats at a Cuban restaurant, cracking jokes with a crew of 20. Later on that night, 50 Cent, who's in town for a concert and a photo shoot with famed photographer Jonathan Manion, throws back a few cold ones with the G-Unit at one of the many happening nightspots.

But the beauty of Miami is that you don't have to walk up and down South Beach to catch your favorite star. All you have to do is home in on the Hit Factory Criteria studios. In the past few months, Foxy Brown, Lenny Kravitz, P. Diddy and Mary J. Blige have all cut tracks there. Today, the names on the reserved parking spots read like a walk of fame: Ms. Carey, Monica, D. Chappelle (as in Dave) and Mr. Santana (as in Carlos) all have spaces waiting for them, as do the Big Tymers and their Cash Money entourage. A new Ferrari and motorbike are being washed on a chunk of ground with a sign that reads "Missy E." beside it. And a few feet from Missy's spot are two signs that say "Mr. Gotti" and "Ashanti."

...

"I met her in London at a Halloween party, which was hilarious," Ashanti says about how she first crossed paths with Mariah Carey. The legendary high-note hitter has tapped Ashanti to open up her Charmbracelet tour, slated to roll out this summer. "I heard she's down here in Miami. I want to hook up with her."

Little does she know that her wish is about to come true.

As the Inc.'s championship game ends, no one notices that down the way in the vacant spot reserved for Ms. Carey there is now a black stretch limo. No one except Irv, who has popped his head out of the studio to take a short break. He walks down and greets Mariah, who has on some very short shorts and sandals.

"That's appropriate," Carey says, pointing to Gotti's T-shirt, which reads "America's Most Wanted" across the chest. After their meeting, I.G. quickly gets Ashanti and her mother. This milestone won't be charted by Billboard or SoundScan, but judging from the huge smile on her face and warm embrace she gives Carey, this is a milestone that Ashanti will cherish with all the ones that have gone down in the record books.

No casual sex for Mariah Carey
Tuesday, 27 May , 2003, 14:33
Washington: Mariah Carey will not have sex until she finds the right man.
"I'm still single and I don't have casual sex. I don't like it. I'm waiting for a proper relationship. I know people who have one-night stands but that's not for me," she was quoted as saying by The Sun.

The Grammy-winning US pop diva also revealed that every time she breaks up from her boyfriend, she listens to her own songs.

"It can be healthy to listen to sad songs like `Bringing On The Heartbreak' and cry for a while. But then listen to a happy song - and think about the next man," Mariah added. ANI

B.O.T.H Video Review
Meg got a copy of the promotional video to B.O.T.H (may change before airing on TV) and here are the details she told us about it:
It opens with Mariah pulling up in a limo and getting out in a sexy gypsy-looking outfit. She walks into a phone booth when the songs starts and there's clips of that along with her and a hot guy caressing each other. It moves to Mariah arriving at her concert by landing in a helicopter, where she exits and greets all her fans. The video then cuts to her at her concert, where she's looking amazing! The Dave Navarro guitar solo in the song is awesome and MC looks totally into the song as she's moving around on stage. The direction in the video is awesome and Mariah looks fantastic, as always!!

On April 24, Carey's camp announced plans for her Charmbracelet World Tour, a 47-date run that starts June 24 in Osaka, Japan, and included a North American leg that was slated to begin July 18 at Sullivan Arena.

But in the three weeks following the announcement, Carey's tour itinerary was continually reworked, and recent listings appear without an Anchorage gig. John Marx and Brett Smith, representatives from the William Morris Agency, each confirmed the non-event via e-mail.

Tanya Hoak, Sullivan Arena's director of sales and marketing, also said the show is a no-go. She said a promoter inquired about openings and made tentative reservations, but plans never went beyond that and were officially scrapped late last week.

"It's not frustrating; it's the nature of the business," Hoak said. Hoak added that this was just a "somewhat unusual" case of an organization announcing dates that were unconfirmed and unofficial.

Don't cry for Carey. Her 2002 release "Charmbracelet" recently was certified platinum, adding another plaque to the list of more than 100 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards. Carey currently appears at No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles with "I Know What You Want," a duet with rapper Busta Rhymes.

Mariah Carey Adding Some New Charms To Her Bracelet
    05.23.2003 2:53 PM EDT
It looks like there's still some more charm to be squeezed out of Mariah Carey's Charmbracelet.

Her latest album, which dropped in December, will be reissued this summer with four new tracks. The popular duet with Busta Rhymes "I Know What You Want," which originally appeared on Rhymes' It Ain't Safe No More, will be among the bonus cuts.

Carey also recorded a remix of "The One" with Jermaine Dupri and Bone Crusher, which might be included. And, according to her label, two more new songs will be added, though they haven't been confirmed yet.

Coinciding with the re-release of the album, Carey will kick off a tour that will include picks from fans — or "lambs," as she calls them — who can vote for their favorite 20 songs on her Web site.

The new Charmbracelet, with revised cover art, is tentatively due July 29.

Mariah Ditching 'Bells And Whistles' On Tour
Although Mariah Carey is downsizing her North American tour plans from arenas to theaters, her agent tells Billboard the move had nothing to do with lower-than-expected ticket sales. "Mariah had been speaking to people, monitoring her Web site, and listening to her fans, and the resounding note she heard was her fans wanted to see her in a more intimate environment and were less concerned about the big production aspects of an arena tour," says John Marx, senior VP of contemporary music at the William Morris Agency.

Beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea, the 47-date Charmbracelet world tour, Carey's first in more than three years, was to be her most extensive yet. The North American leg was initially scheduled to begin July 18 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska, and conclude Sept. 23 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.; international dates appear to be unchanged.

Marx maintains the tour would have been fine as booked. "Ticket counts were not that bad, and our average capacity on this tour was about 11,000," he says. "She'll have the same band, minus the bells and whistles. She's going to bring it back to what Mariah's all about: the music."

According to Marx, Carey could wind up playing as many as 27 dates, beginning July 26 at Celine Dion's Colosseum showroom at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. As previously reported, Island/Monarc is planning to reissue Carey's latest album, "Charmbracelet," on July 29 with four new tracks.

Only four North American shows had gone on sale when plans began to change: Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. (July 26), United Center in Chicago (July 29), Air Canada Centre in Toronto (Aug. 7), and the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. Carey's official Web site advised her fans in cities where the shows had gone on sale to hang on to tickets and receipts, presumably for a refund or exchange. But some building officials were out of the loop.

Brian Miller, director of event development for the Xcel Energy Center, says he sold about 2,000 tickets out of the box. But when Billboard contacted him earlier this week, he had yet to be informed that the tour was being scaled back and that his date would be scratched. "Sounds like I need to call the promoter," Miller says. "We're still up and on sale." Carey was not only supposed to perform July 26 at Xcel, she also had the building booked for rehearsals July 24-25.

Robert Hunter, senior VP/GM of the 20,000-seat Air Canada Centre, says sales were at about 4,500 for his show, and the date was still on. It will likely take place in the building's 8,500-seat configuration concert bowl.

    New Mariah Interview
Superstar Mariah Carey takes time out to talk to us about her world tour ‘Charm Bracelet ‘and her two UK tour dates.
Q: Hi Mariah how you doing? Now tell me all about your world tour, your Charm Bracelet World Tour - you must be very, very excited?

A: I’m very, very excited. I’m really, really looking forward to getting out there and touring and getting out there being with the fans. The whole vibe is going to be more intimate. I think the fans are going to feel really up close and personal with me and it takes a lot of discipline because I have to rest between shows, but it’s cool.

Q: Now tell us about the two UK dates
NEC Arena Birmingham and Wembley London (October 28 and 29)

Q: Tell us what it’s like playing at Wembley have you been there before?
Yes I have and I loved it – it’s fun. I remember I kicked a soccer ball there! Football you guys call it.

Q: This is your first tour in three yeas you’ve taken a long break from this kind of thing – you’re obviously fit and healthy to go back into it – how’s all that been going?
Everything's great everything’s been fine. It’s funny when people keep asking me how are you, how are you doing, are you feeling well and blah blah, it’s interesting to me - the press really like to hang on to an old story don’t they?

Q: But I saw you recently a couple of months ago you’re obviously on top form - what sort of things have you got in store for the fans at the gigs?
Oh thank you, well I’ve been trying to stay in shape doing these water aerobics which is kind of my new take on working out because it doesn’t feel like it - if you have to torture yourself you might as well do it in the ocean! But in terms of the surprises for the fans, I’m still working that out myself but I like to incorporate the different cultures of where I’m going - I like to bring fans on stage. This is going to be a lot more theatrical than my standard tour because I’ve had the chance to work with the people, the lighting people and had chance to be a lot more hands on.

With the imminent relaunch of Mariah Carey's Charmbracelet and a high-profile tour just around the corner, it's more important than ever for Island/ Def Jam to deliver a radio hit for their pricey diva. Her cover of Def Leppard's "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" opens—like most of the album—with Carey's delicate upper register leading the way, but fortunately, this reworked single version strips in a new midsection, where Ms. M flexes some real vocal muscle. Ballads are few and far between on mainstream radio, and without the requisite add-on rap from any number of hip-hop stars, it's tough to score a gimmick-free hit. Even so, this is the most satisfying release from Carey in years: It's melodic, it's all her, and at last, she's singing like she means it. This is one "Heartbreak" we'll all be feeling.—CT

    Mariah Interviewed On UK's GMTV
Early morning viewers would have been greeted with a pretty sight this morning as Mariah Carey herself gave an interview- talking about the world tour, water aerobics and boys!

Before the Q&S was screened, Rachel Harrison (the interviewer) was asked what Mariah was really like. Was she a diva? Was she difficult? The answer- NO! Rachel Harrison, known for her quality entertainment pieces, said Mariah turned up five minutes early, apologised for being late, came with only three people and only requested some coffee!

Then, Lorraine Kelly, who famously criticised Mariah Carey, admitted that Mariah looked stunning in the video of IKWYW, and said it appeared Mariah was "getting her act together, which was pretty good!"

Of the world tour, Mariah said she would miss her dogs, and that whilst the state of the world is worrisome, a reality of her life is that she performs for her fans around the world.

After being told she always looked stunning by the interviewer, Mariah modestly said "I don't think I look good all the time but thank you, that's very nice of you". She then revealed that her new form of work-out is water aerobics, and she finds it annoying when she goes to places where the main dish is Fish and Chips and she's dying to eat it! "It's cool, you just have to take everything in moderation," she finished!

When asked if there was a special man in her life, Mariah said "I'm not in love. I don't even meet anybody. How can I meet anybody? All I do is sit on tv and do interviews! (Laughs hysterically) I'm gonna make it a prerequisite for you guys to bring a cute guy along with you!"

When asked about the diva rumours, Mariah said: "Sometimes there is a big entourage, but I don't think that makes me anymore special than anyone else, or anymore difficult"

Check out some captures from the interview in Gallery 7 (Thanks Will!)

Click To Enlarge Em's a girl blasts Mariah
MARIAH CAREY has blasted tough-talking rapper EMINEM as “a little girl” for threatening to use her voice messages on a record.

Em claims to have slushy words that Mariah left on his phone when they dated last year and says he will sample them on a single.

But Mariah hit back: “I don’t think he should do that because it will get him in a bit of trouble with my lawyers.

“If he is thinking of using a voicemail I left a year ago it is crazy.

“It feels like he is engaging in a catfight with me. It’s like dealing with a girlfriend in seventh grade.

“It’s like fighting with a little girl. It’s childish.”

Mariah, who features on BUSTA RHYMES’ new single I Know What You Want, called me to announce two UK gigs. She will perform at Birmingham NEC on October 28 and Wembley on October 30.

Tickets go on sale on May 30. Watch this space for more dates.

Em and Mariah were only an item for a short time and she has admitted it was never a match made in heaven.

Now she is hoping to find a British boyfriend when she tours. Mariah told me: “I never meet people. I want somebody cute, like a sportsman. Perhaps you can hook me up with somebody.”

Looking at the picture, it’s hard to imagine why she has trouble attracting a new bloke.

    IKWYW Released In The UK
    Busta Rhymes
'I KNOW WHAT YOU WANT (FEAT MARIAH CAREY AND THE FLIPMODE SQUAD)'
Released on Mon 26 May 2003
    Label: J Records

Out of potential disaster Busta Rhymes is managing to forge some kind of success in the singles department. Last album 'It Ain't Safe No More...' was hardly a classic and yet you'll still find this track and the superb preceding single, 'Make It Clap' (especially the Sean Paul version), doing the business in your local hip hop discotheque.

The presence of Mariah Carey should warn off the hardcore (though it's hard to figure out quite what she's doing here) but casual MTV Base glancers will be in heaven from the very first bars of sun-drenched latin guitar lite. This is, you imagine, what a new Santana single would sound like if these two J Records players ever get the inevitable collaboration together.

As it is, the A&R department know the global reach of this kind of summer holiday material and it seems they have another hit on their hands.

    Mariah vs. Eminem
    by Josh Grossberg
    May 16, 2003, 2:00 PM PT

Mariah Carey's unlikely to give Eminem a charm bracelet, much less extend an olive branch.

The pissed-off pop songstress, who's relaxing in the Caribbean before setting sail on a six-month world tour in support of her new album, Charmbracelet, had some pointed words for the rap superstar after hearing reports that Em threatened to include samples of several rambling voicemail messages she left him in an upcoming tune.

"I don't know what the hell he's doing," Carey grouses in the New York Daily News on Thursday. "It's a little excessive. Doesn't it seem a little bit girly? Like we're in a cat fight?"

The audio pinings purportedly reveal a different side of the diva--one who adores mixing "baby talk" with other "weird and graphic" messages.

Whatever their content, Carey downplayed their naughtiness.

"Graphic? I'm like Mary Poppins when it comes to that type of thing. I'm a jokester," Carey tells the Daily News. "I have little voices. I do little things like that that are fun and games...If somebody has nothing better to do than sit around listening to old phone messages, I'm a little concerned about that."

The story, first circulated earlier this week by the gossip mavens at the New York Post, claimed that Eminem had saved every one of the songbird's "gushy" voicemails to use as payback when Carey dissed him in her song "Clown," after he went public with their relationship.

Emimen told Rolling Stone last summer that the pair briefly dated, before he realized he "didn't like her as a person."

"Don't believe the hype…She doesn't really have it all together," he said at the time.

For her part, Carey denied they were ever an item. And on "Clown," she sang: "You should have never intimated we were lovers. I gotta break it to you delicately/who's gonna love you when it's over? Who's gonna care?"

Eminem's rep says the rumor that the hip-hopster was going to go public with the messages from his purported paramour was "the most erroneous thing" he's ever heard.

"He's not using Mariah's phone messages. Nothing's being used in an album," says Interscope Records spokesman Dennis Dennehy.

Either way, Carey says she's too busy prepping for her upcoming trek around the globe to worry about the likes of Eminem.

Carey will kick off her jaunt in Seoul, on June 21, and plans to visit more than 113 cities. This time around, the popster is booking smaller venues for a more intimate feeling and is also letting fans help choose her set list via her Website. She's slated to launch the North American leg of her tour on July 18, in Anchorage.

Charmbracelet, meanwhile, has sold more than 1 million copies since its December debut and has proved that Carey is back on track after her 2001 emotional breakdown and career meltdown following the movie and album debacle Glitter.

Update: Mariah Revamping Tour, Album / CB Re-released July 29
Updating a story posted earlier this afternoon (May 16), Mariah Carey is completely revamping her North American tour plans. The arena trek, which was due to begin July 18 in Anchorage, Alaska, is being downsized to "something more intimate," according to a spokesperson, who also promises "something different than what Mariah has ever done before."

A new routing is being assembled and could be announced as early as next week. A post on Carey's official Web site instructs fans to "hold onto your confirmations/receipts as we will be providing additional information shortly."

Carey's upcoming dates in the Far East will continue as planned, beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea, and wrapping July 15 in Nagoya, Japan. Beforehand, the artist will be on hand June 1 in East Rutherford, N.J., for New York radio station WHTZ's Zootopia concert.

"This is not a 'greatest hits' show. This is mostly about songs the fans connect with." the artist told Billboard earlier this month. "I have such a wealth of material, if I feel like it I can go into different songs than two nights before."

As for Carey's Monarc/Island album "Charmbracelet," sources tell Billboard the label will relaunch the set July 29 with four new tracks. Carey is currently No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 with "I Know What You Want," a duet with Busta Rhymes. That song, which appears on Rhymes' J album "It Ain't Safe No More," will be added to the new "Charmbracelet."

The set will be rounded out with two new tunes and a remix. It will also carry a different cover from the original. "Charmbracelet," released Dec. 3, 2002, has sold 1 million units in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. First single "Through the Rain" fizzled at No. 81 on the Hot 100, while second single "Boy (I Need You)" failed to reach the chart.

Island declined comment on the revamped album.

    Mariah Carey's Favorite Destinations
The multiplatinum singer (with 150 million-plus records sold) chats about her travel adventures and her favorite cities, restaurants and places to unwind.

Mariah's rise to fame sounds a lot like a Cinderella story. After she graduated from high school, she took singing lessons, waitressed and had small roles on broadway. Then, at a party, a friend of hers gave Tommy Mottola, then head of Sony Records, a tape of her songs to listen to in his limousine on the way home. The story goes that the businessman turned his car around to return to the party and find out who this hypnotizing voice belonged to. The rest is history: her megasales, her dozen Top-20 chart-toppers, her travels around the world from concerts...and for fun.

    WHEN IT'S TIME TO TRAVEL...
Q: Do you pack your own suitcases?
A: I would love to be able to say that I'm the one who packs my bags, but I can't. I don't have enough time to sing, write songs, produce records, do interviews and pack on top of all that (she laughs).

Q: What kind of clothes do you wear when you travel?
A: When I'm going to fly, I wear what I call my "airplane outfit," which is a comfortable dress that doesn't wrinkle in case there are cameras waiting for me when I arrive. I always have to have that in mind. I own an entire collection of this types of outfits-the truth is, I have so many of them in my closet that they take up an entire section...but I only choose one.

Q: Do you exercise when you travel?
A: Not as much as I'd like...but yes, when I have the opportunity.

    Q: What type of exercies?
A: I would love to go jogging on the beach, but I can't. When (now that I'm in Miami) I look out the window and see that marvelous beach, it makes me want to go out there and run and swim. Swimming is one of my favorite exercises. I love warm places with lots of water, but I can't always take advantage of it. When I can, I swim a little.

Q: What are some of your favorite places in the world?
A: Capri is one of my favorite places, which is why I recorded part of my new album there. I really love being surrounded by the beach and the ocean. I also love Puerto Rico. They're two of my favorite places.

Q: You've also been spotted several times in Spain. When you think of that country, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
A: Spain has so many marvelous cities! Its culture is so ancient...in the United States, we don't have those beautiful cultural relics. Here, the oldest buildings only date from the 1800s. In spain, there's a legacy of hundreds and hundreds of years, which is amazing.

Q: What are your favorite cities in the world?
A: Rome, and my home, New York.

Q: Is there a particular restaurant that's impressed you the most out of all that you've visited?
A: There's a very beautiful one in Capri called Villa Verde. The owner's name is Franco, and it's a very special, fun place. I have to give him credit, and an award for excellence.

    Q: What's your favorite food?
A: That depends on the cheff, actually. You may love Thai food, but if one day it's not so good...so I would have to say it depends. What are you cooking tonight? That might be my favorite food...

Q: I'm sure you have a lot of interesting anecdotes from your travels...
A: Many, but right now I can't think of any...Alice! (She calls for her assistant) Can you help me remember any? (She thinks for a few seconds) I get lost easily, I'm the kind of person who has no sense of direction. I could easily get lost in this hotel. Oh yes! Once in Rome, I wanted to get together with some friends to enjoy the outdoors, so I asked them to meet me by the Spanish Steps. The problem is that people began to recognize me; soon the word spread, and the crowd became so big that they almost crushed us. They began to press against us, and we almost fell down the steps. We had to hide out in the Prada store. Now that I think about it, it wasn't realistic on my part to go out like that, thinking that we were normal people and that no one would recognize us.

Q: Do you have any advice to share with those who travel?
A: Only to enjoy each moment.

Q: What were the biggest lessons that you learned in 2002?
A: There were so many! The greatest was that you have to take care of yourself and learn to say no to some things-to stop working too much, because no one can work 20 hours straight under a lot of stress without burning out. I think that this is a lesson for everyone. Last year, I wanted to have everything under control, but I learned that others could help me as well. Now I have a nutritionist who advises me so I can stay healthy. When people see me smiling in font of the camera, they may not realize how exhausting this work can be. I also learned to have faith and be a better person. Many of this is expressed on my new album, especially in the song, "Through The Rain."

Q: What's your concept of happiness?
A: It's like, for example, today: I could go out and lie on the beach, swim and enjoy the water and the rest of the day. But in general, happiness means being at peace with yourself and surrounded by those who you love, the friends and family that really love you.

Q: A lot has been said about you that's not true. Are there some that have irritated you more than others?
A: I would love it if none of them had ever been said, but, unfortunately, people like to exaggerate because they have to make money. That's why they sometimes say "Mariah had 35 nervous breakdowns," instead of saying, "Mariah was simply resting or visiting friends." But people don't really know what's most important. The most important thing is that during all this time they were saying these things, I was getting mi work done: I was writing my songs, both for my fans and for myself. This ne album is very personal, and there's a lot in it about forging ahead in difficult times. What I was trying to do this time was to convert the negative into positive. That's how I am. I don't hate the press, but at times they make up things that aren't true. I understand that some journalists write or do what they do because they have to make a living, so I'm not angry. Who cares?

As of now, the entire U.S dates list has been taken off the official site. The international dates, including Toronto, Canada are still scheduled for their original dates/venues.

The following statement has been released on The Palace of Auburn Hills:

Please be advised, the Mariah Carey tour is cancelled. This includes the August 1st performance at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Refunds are available at the point-of-purchase.
At the same time, the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH is confirming that the show is still on for now.

Shayne found an interesting comment about Mariah's tour on the Review Journal that states:

Mariah Carey's new tour is getting a $300,000 guarantee in most cities, he said. Here, "the bidding is already up to $500,000."

Mariah Carey Scraps Arena Tour, Opts To Get More Intimate
    Mariah Carey is downsizing.

Though the diva announced dates for an arena tour back in April, she is now opting to play more intimate shows in theaters instead.

A cryptic posting on her official Web site Thursday revealed the change, reading, "Mariah is planning something really special for her Charmbracelet 2003 U.S. tour." The site advised fans who purchased tickets to "hold onto your confirmations/receipts as we will be providing additional information shortly."

A spokesperson for Carey's record company, Island Def Jam/Monarc, said that the idea for the theater tour came from a fan posting on Carey's message board, and that the singer thought it would be exciting to have a more intimate environment with her fans.

A new itinerary is expected to be confirmed and revealed within a week. Carey's original U.S. leg was supposed to launch in Anchorage, Alaska, on July 18 and conclude with a stop in Manchester, New Hampshire, on September 23 (see "Mariah Carey To Kick Off World Tour In June"). Carey's label said that the trek will still take place this summer, roughly following the timetable previously announced, and said the change may also bring dates in additional markets, as less production would be necessary for the theater shows.

Prior to the North American leg, Carey is still scheduled to perform in Korea and Japan, beginning June 21 and wrapping July 15.

Mariah Downsizes Tour / CB Re-Release Info
CB Rereleased with Four Extra Tracks Thursday, May 15, 2003
    By Roger Friedman

Mariah Carey is not doing a stadium tour this spring after all. Instead, she's got a surprise planned: a major tour of smaller theatres like New York's Beacon and Boston's Orpheum come this fall.

And it's not like she can't fill Madison Square Garden-sized rooms. Promoters were already laying out a schedule for around the country that consisted only of arenas. But Carey told me she knew it was a mistake.

"My voice is very delicate," said the owner of an eight-octave range. "I wanted this to be about the music, not a Broadway type show. And," she added, "I didn't want to be moving around quickly from city to city. I wanted to stay planted in a city as long as I could."

Carey calls this tour her first "Unplugged" performances. "Somehow, and we're not going to say how yet, the fans will have a chance to request songs. It's hard to choose because I have 14 number ones and you can't leave them out. But a fan told me recently she loved 'Close My Eyes,' which is more obscure. So I want to include some of them as well. I know that my favorite kind of show is like going to see Prince in a small club. I want these shows to be like that, very loose and spontaneous."

Right now Mariah is planted in a very nice spot in the Caribbean (I'm sworn to secrecy but I can tell you it's not St. Bart's). She's taking a short break after recording four new songs for the re-release of her Charmbracelet album.

"It's got four new tracks. I've recorded with Da Brat, a reggae group called Elephant Man, Se7en, and I'll have my single with Busta Rhymes." Carey did the recordings in Miami, where she bumped into Ashanti, Missy Elliott, and Irv Gotti at the studio. "And that's why I record in Capri usually. I don't like getting dressed up and wearing makeup. I like to go in my pajamas, but you can't do that in Miami!"

    Mariah scoffs at Eminem's hangup
MC In Miami Mariah Carey wishes Eminem could get over her. The pop goddess is revving up for a six-month world tour. So she finds it slightly pathetic that the Oscar-winning rap star is said to be saving phone messages she once left him.

"I don't know what the hell he's doing," Carey told us yesterday. "It's a little excessive. Doesn't it seem a little bit girly? Like we're in a catfight?"

According to one report, Slim Shady has been cherishing "weird and graphic" answering-machine tapes on which Carey talked in "a baby voice."

"Graphic?" laughed Carey, speaking from the Caribbean, where she was relaxing on a catamaran. "I'm like Mary Poppins when it comes to that type of thing....I'm a jokester.

I have little voices. I do little things like that that are fun and games. ...If somebody has nothing better to do than sit around listening to old phone messages, I'm a little concerned about that."

Eminem's rep has denied that Slim may use Mariah's message in a rap. But Carey says: "Let him do whatever the hell he wants. If that makes him happy, yea for him."

She added slyly, "All I know is, we all have a lot of messages, don't we? And we all should remember that."

What about rumors that ex-boyfriend Luis Miguel may dish about her in an interview?

"That I don't believe," she said. "He's a class act. It's not his style to be exploitative. At least, that's not the person that I knew. He wouldn't even talk to me about past girlfriends."

The singer is clearly in a good frame of mind to begin a tour that she says will be unlike anything else she's done. She's letting her fans, with whom she communicates constantly on the Internet, help her choose her song list. She's also determined to perform in much smaller theaters - where the set will have a comfy decor reminiscent of Barbra Streisand's final shows.

"I'm passionate about doing something more intimate," she said.

The tour is due to begin in Seoul on June 21 and may hit 113 cities. As of yesterday, word was that Madison Square Garden and the Nassau Coliseum were on the schedule for September. But insiders said Carey firmly ruled them out.

"I'm not doing any arenas," she told us. "It's too stressful to worry about the sound. I'm not doing this for the money. If I need to add more nights to get in more fans, I'll do it."

And just so her fans can look forward to her famous bod, she had to hang up. "I'm about to do my little water aerobics," she laughed. "I have a trainer here. If you have to be abused by working out, I might as well work out in the ocean."

When asked what she was most excited about, Mariah said: "All my dancers and singers and crew members, they get to hang out. They get two days off between each show because I take two days rest for my voice. It's great for the crew and the dancers and singers. But for me, here I am in the hotel room with the humidifiers yet again."

The mighty humidifier army is only a small part of Mariah's Miami preparation team. Calling the musical shots as he has on past tours is American Idol's top dawg Randy Jackson.

"He's my musical director. It's so weird. It used to be just like I'd introduce him on stage and say, 'This is Randy Jackson,' and they'd be like, 'Is that Michael Jackson's brother?' And now he's this huge star but it's great because he's the best guy in the world!"

And speaking of guys, is there a special one in Mariah's life? When asked if she was dating anyone, Mariah told Billy, "We're doing a world tour, so it's kind of like one or the other. Take your pick. Go out and search for your soul mate or do a world tour. And I chose to do a world tour because a soul mate needs to come find me."

Until that happens there's only one special guy in Mariah's life: Her puppy pal, Jack. Watch the video as Billy takes the plunge with Jack!

The Charmbracelet tour will be the one of the most extensive in Mariah's career. The 47-date tour kicks off in Seoul on June 21 and hits the United States on July 18.

    Mariah's one fan-tastic star
IT was great reading about Mariah Carey's heart of gold (Mariah Carey Makes Prom Dream Come True, April 8). Even though troubles have plagued her in the past, she showed that her heart is still in the right place by giving a fan her dress to wear. How many other divas would have done this? Mariah, you're the best!

    Shy of relief
Efforts to help a young Iraqi war victim have hit a snag now that celebrities including Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Clooney, Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey are denying published reports of their involvement.

Pictures of Ali Ismail Abbas, 12, were beamed around the world after he lost both arms in a U.S. missile attack that killed 20 - including his parents and siblings. Now the Staten Island-based Global Medical Relief Fund wants to bring the boy to New York for medical care.

But a report also naming Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and Justin Timberlake as supporters prompted a flurry of denials.

Organizer Cheryl Shuman told us Schwarzenegger's personal assistant had agreed to his involvement. But the action star's spokeswoman said, "It's not anything his office is aware of."

And a rep for Carey said, "None of it is true. Mariah is very conscientious when it comes to working with disabled children, but no one has contacted us."

The well-meaning Shuman clarified that promoters had donated tickets to concerts starring Carey, Timberlake and Aguilera.

Global Medical Relief Fund founder Elissa Montanti admitted Ali hasn't even agreed to come to the U.S.

"We're leaving on Wednesday for Kuwait, where Ali is in hospital," she told us. "We've offered to pay for him and his uncle to come over and live, including medical care until the age of 22."

    Stylist for the moment
In his job, Brian Rusch, 30, has cut the sleeves off a straight jacket to create a corset. He's painted a brown leather suit white and wired it for lights. He's searched strange cities for mermaid tails, made tutus from inflated surgical gloves and wiped clean the fine leather soles of borrowed shoes before returning them to designers...

He estimates he spends about one week each month out of town on jobs. Represented in Portland by Cusicks' Talent Agency, Rusch and other photo stylists command $450-$600 a day. He declined to reveal his annual revenues.

"It depends on the client," said Justin Habel, owner of the agency.

Clients include photographers working on high-budget advertising campaigns, magazines putting together editorial spreads, record companies shooting CD covers, and stores seeking help with fashion shows. Some photo stylists also handle models' hair and makeup, although Rusch does not.

"We represent four stylists," said Habel, who also represents hundreds of models. "We submit work from all the stylists, but sometimes clients don't know until they meet the person who they will hire because a lot of it has to do with personality."

That's something Rusch knows well. He was hired to work for Mariah Carey on one of her music videos.

The diva demanded a stretch limo to take her the 300 yards to a waiting helicopter, he said, and expected stylists to clean the bottoms of her shoes with disposable wipes. He lasted one day.

More comments from stylist Brian Rusch:
Mariah Carey: "A town car showed up to take her to the helicopter and she refused to come out of her trailer until she got a stretch limo to take her the 300 yards. Then she insisted on having her heels cleaned with Baby Wipes. I lasted one day."

Sean "P. Diddy" Combs: "It was for the Mariah Carey video, a remix of 'Honey.' I was hired to do Puff Daddy. I was a little intimidated but he was a nice guy. He had a definite idea of what he liked and what looked good on him. All the accessories -- the hats and sunglasses -- are stuff that he brought."

    Mariah Faces Double-Dishing
May 12, 2003 -- MARIAH Carey should screen the guys she dates a little more carefully.

The diva is facing severe embarrassment from two of her former loves, Eminem and Luis Miguel.

"Em saved all the long, gushy voice mails Mariah left on his machine when they were dating and is writing a song making use of them," said our source.

"They are really weird and graphic - she talks in a baby voice and sounds crazy."

Carey has a habit of leaving long rambling messages to friends, often posting messages to her fans, or "lambs" as she calls them, on her Web site.

Eminem was annoyed when Carey wrote a song about their relationship on her new album, "Charmbracelet."

The song, "Clown," noted: "You should have never intimated we were lovers. I gotta break it to you delicately - who's gonna love you when it's over? Who's gonna care?"

But maybe she was just getting even for remarks Eminem made in a Rolling Stone magazine interview last June. In that piece, he acknowledged that the two briefly dated, and added:

"On the whole personal level, I'm not really feeling it. I just don't like her as a person. I learned a lesson from it: Don't believe the hype . . . She doesn't really have it all together."

A rep for Eminem said it was "categorically untrue" that the rapper is using Carey's voice mails in a new song.

Meanwhile, Miguel is also looking to sell out his fomer sweetie.

Gossipmongers on the velvetrope.com Web site note that Miguel is trying to break into the United States music market and is in talks to do a "tell-all" interview with a magazine about Carey's 2001 breakdown and bouts of depression to try and get publicity for his new album.

At this rate, the only guy who isn't willing to sell out Carey is her ex-husband, Tommy Mottola.

A rep for Carey said: "Mariah is currently riding on the success of her huge hit with Busta Rhymes, 'I Know What You Want,' and preparing for her Charmbracelet world tour. Clearly somoene is obsessed with making up stories about her for their own personal gain."

Mariah Carey Aims to Charm World on Global Tour
Fri May 9, 6:06 PM ET
    By Ray Waddell

NASHVILLE (Billboard) - Mariah Carey will work the road harder than ever on the most extensive trek of her career, beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea.

The 47-date Charmbracelet World Tour, Carey's first in more than three years, could have been even more global in nature, if not for concerns over the SARS outbreak that prompted dates in China to be dropped from the schedule. As it stands, the tour will play Asia, North America, Europe, and the U.K. before wrapping Nov. 7 in Milan at the Filaforum. Ashanti opens most dates.

The North American leg, produced by Concerts West, begins July 18 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska, and concludes Sept. 23 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. Carey's last outing, also produced by Concerts West, was in 2000, when she grossed $7.1 million from just nine dates reported to Billboard Boxscore.

The tour comes in support of Carey's Island Def Jam/Monarc album, Charmbracelet, and the artist says her affinity for the record has much to do with the scope of the tour. "I really feel close to this album," she tells Billboard. "It's such a personal statement from me, I felt it was the perfect time to go out and play some dates."

Carey also wanted to play some markets she previously had not been to in response to feedback from fans who have traveled long distances for live Mariah. "Music fans are everywhere," she points out.

Concerts West's history with Carey was a key factor in it nailing down the North American dates, according to John Marx, worldwide agent for Carey at William Morris Agency. "Concerts West did a good job for her last time, and she wanted to work with them again."

The top record-selling female artist of all time, Carey has never been known as a heavy touring act, which tour producers see as untapped potential. "This is more than she's ever done," says Randy Phillips, CEO of Concerts West parent AEG Live. "This is the opposite of a farewell tour. It's a 'Hello, I'm here' tour."

Paul Gongaware, co-CEO of Concerts West, also believes there is an underserved concert market for Carey. "There has always been a career there for her live, it has just not been on her front burner," says Gongaware, who will be point man for Concerts West on the tour, as he was in 2000.

Production will move on 10-12 trucks. Randy Jackson of American Idol fame is musical director, and Chris Lamb and Tom Hudak are production managers. The gross potential for the North American run is about $16 million, with an average net ticket price of $60.

Internationally, the tour will work with different promoters in each market. Key international dates include Sept. 27 and 29 performances in Moscow at the Kremlin Palace.

Perhaps more noteworthy are the dates that won't be played, at least this year. "Shows in China, Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong were dropped from the forward part of the tour," Marx says. "We're disappointed we had to cancel some important dates."

Carey had been booked to play stadium dates in Beijing and Shanghai; Marx adds that an Aug. 7 Toronto date is on. While disappointed about the missed opportunities, Carey says, "I'm more disappointed about what's going on in the world; the tour comes second. I'm praying for the people being afflicted."

Dates are routed to give Carey maximum vocal recuperation time, with two consecutive days off on jumps and at least one off day when multiple shows in one market are booked.

"This is not a 'greatest hits' show. This is mostly about songs the fans connect with," Carey says. "I have such a wealth of material, if I feel like it I can go into different songs than two nights before."

Charmbracelet debuted last December at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Carey's collaboration with Busta Rhymes, "I Know What You Want," is No. 6 on The Billboard Hot 100.

Carey says she is "pretty sure" there will be some sort of record of the tour, be it a DVD, live album, or TV special.

    Ashanti To Open Mariah Tour
R&B sensation Ashanti will be the opening act on the North American leg of Mariah Carey's Charmbracelet World Tour. As previously reported, the 21-date trek will kick off July 18 in Anchorage, Alaska, and wrap Sept. 21 in Manchester, N.H.

The two artists will actually hook up prior to the tour, as both are slated to perform June 1 at WHTZ New York's (Z100) Zootopia concert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. As previously reported, Kelly Clarkson, Third Eye Blind, and Jewel are also on the bill, which will boast the first and last performance by TLC's Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozanda "Chili" Thomas as a duo without late founding group member Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes. Britney Spears will serve as guest host of the event.

Ashanti will touring behind her sophomore album, "Chapter II," due July 1 via Murder Inc. The set is led by the Chink Santana and Irv Gotti-produced single "Rock With U (Awww Baby)," which is No. 22 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and No. 35 on the Hot 100.

Released in April 2002, Ashanti's self-titled debut debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The set has sold 3.3 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Star Power: Mariah Carey - Healthy Comeback
Mariah Carey is basking in the success of her 12th album, "Charmbracelet," and getting ready for yet another around-the-world tour. To add more icing to her cake, the singer also took home the Quincy Jones Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2003 Soul Train Awards. Yes, things are definitely looking up for the Grammy Award–winning songbird who has gone through some tough times in the past few years. Carey is feeling fabulous and more energized than ever — which she attributes in large part to her new focus on nurturing her body. We caught up with the pop superstar to learn more about her yen for exercising in the water, what it's like to have Dr. Evil as a workout buddy and how an upbeat rhythm works wonders as a motivational tool.

Lifetime: What do you do differently these days as far as taking care of yourself?

Mariah Carey: Well, I'm eating much healthier now, having mini meals throughout the day since my work schedule is so hectic. I also work out more often with a personal trainer.

Lifetime: What is your favorite form of exercise?

Carey: I love doing an aerobic workout in the water. When I was vacationing in the islands, I would exercise with my trainer in the pool and it was such a great, strenuous workout.

Lifetime: We've heard you enjoy watching television or movies while pedaling away on the exercise bike. What films get you pumped up?

Carey: I have to say that watching comedies such as "Austin Powers" really keeps me laughing and motivated, which is great when you're exercising.

Lifetime: What about music? Do you ever sing or listen to tunes while working up a sweat?

Carey: I don't do too much singing, but I do listen to many different things while I work out. I look for something with a hot beat that keeps me going.

Lifetime: What are your favorite and least favorite exercise moves?

Carey: I don't really have a favorite or least favorite, but working on specific areas and seeing results really keeps me motivated to stick with any type of program. When I'm not performing, I enjoy hanging out with friends, a bit of vacation time and swimming. Swimming is great exercise and incredibly relaxing as well.

Lifetime: What does the word fitness mean to you?

Carey: For me, it's maintaining a healthy mind, body and soul, eating properly, and getting the appropriate amount of exercise and plenty of rest! My basic goals are just to be the best person I can be, take care of myself and enjoy life to the fullest.

Hollywood stars to help Iraqi boy
    07/05/2003 08:55 - (SA)
Los Angeles - Hollywood movie stars have launched a drive to take a severely-burned Iraqi orphan to the United States for medical treatment.

A constellation of Tinseltown stars - including Arnold Schwarznegger, Angelina Jolie, Mariah Carey, Ashanti and Justin Timberlake - have already signed on for the effort to bring 12-year-old Ali Ismail Abbas to Los Angeles.

Christina Aguilera are also on board and top names like George Clooney and Julia Roberts are expected to join their ranks, promoter and marketing guru to the stars Cheryl Shuman said.

"We've just launched this effort, but my hope is that with the help of these stars we can raise enough money to cover his medical treatment and then take care of this child for the rest of his life," she said.

"He needs prostheses and he is very, very badly burned and there's just no money to help him and maybe nowhere for him to go."

Ali, who was last week undergoing medical treatment in Kuwait for burns that cover 60 percent of his body, had both arms amputated above the elbow in Baghdad last month after he was caught in a US missile strike on March 30.

He was the sole survivor among 20 killed, including his parents, brothers and sisters, when the deadly projectile hit his family home in Al Zafiriya and the world media quickly seized on him as a symbolic victim and launched a high-profile campaign to save his life. - Sapa-AFP

    Can Mariah's Acting Career Fly?
Now that comeback girl Mariah Carey is getting ready to set off on a world tour in support of her hit "Charmbracelet" album, what are the chances that the butterfly-loving diva's stalled acting career will take wing?

There isn't anything in the way of success to build on in that department. Mariah's quasi-autobiographical "Glitter" film -- which she also produced and for which she wrote the soundtrack songs -- was a megaton bomb and her "Wise Girls" never made it to the big screen.

But -- don't count her out of the game, say those who know Mariah best. Two factors remain overwhelmingly in her favor. First, her determination. In the entertainment field, where having abnormally vast reserves of nerve and endurance are job requirments, Mariah has even more monumental reserves than most. After all, this is the woman who, a year and a half after a public, messy breakdown, returned to the limelight with one of her best and most successful albums.

Secondly, Mariah proponents insist that she has acting talent. Though "Wise Girls" never found feature distribution, it -- and Mariah's performance -- won kudos at the Sundance Festival. And Eric Benet, who costarred with her in "Glitter," is among those who credit her with having acting chops the public has yet to behold.

Right now, there is nothing ahead on Carey's acting slate, but don't be surprised if she decides to test the waters again a showcase cameo or supporting part in someone else's film. That was her plan, after all, five years ago when she first decided to leap into an acting career. Perhaps if she had stayed with that plan, she could have more slowly and smoothly built up to starring roles.

Mariah At Damon Dash's Birthday Bash
Mariah was one of the many artists who came to celebrate Damon Dash's birthday at the breakfast club, 7th ave south, New York City on Sunday - May 4th, 2003.

Craig David Replaced By Ashanti For Supporting Act

    IKWYW Voting Day
Steve and Joe had a great idea to try and get IKWYW on the TRL countdown tomorrow. Lets try to help the song by voting for it at least once!

    Mariah's "Fan Bracelet"
This is an amazing fan project for the 2003 North American Charmbracelet Tour! A fanbook will be presented to Mariah at each tour stop in North America. The books will contain entries from fans in the area. By the end of the tour Mariah will have collected around 20 books.
All these books will contain things from her fans all around the continent connecting us together as her "Fan-Bracelet". The cover of each book will contain a picture or graphic depicting something from that area. Such as a lighthouse for the New Hampshire show representing New England; or a Sun for a Florida or California stop. These will represent a "charm" from that area, which will be a part of the "bracelet". Mariah will be notified of this project through the first book that is given to her. She will then be aware of it and be looking forward to a new book at each show. The leader or somone close to the stage will have to make a sign telling her you have her next charm/book. Eventually Mariah will be looking for these signs and asking for the book if she can't see the sign, or this is what we hope at least! If we can all come together, we can make this one of the biggest fan projects of all time!!

    UK Fan Meeting
On MTV UK’s “MTV Presents Mariah Carey” Mariah was asked what she would like to do if she could take all her fans out: “If I could have like the ultimate thing? OK, an amusement park area, then like a beach area...can somebody hook that up?" This is the inspiration behind mariahcareyuk.com’s summer fan event, the Beach Bonanza!

A hired coach will take lambs from central London to Margate for the event. The coach ride will be full of quizzes with prizes and Mariah footage playing on TVs. Once at Margate we’ll enjoy the sandy beach and make a fan book for Mariah as well as have a few more competitions for prizes!

The amusement park next to the beach even sounds like somewhere Mariah would choose to take us – it’s called “Dreamland” and features some cool rollercoasters making this part of the day reminiscent of the “Fantasy” video!

A video diary of the day will be made and the tape will be given to Mariah so she can see how we lived out what she described as “the ultimate thing”!

All fans are welcome to meet us in Margate on SATURDAY 19TH JULY but if you want to get in on the cool coach ride from London (and back again!) you’ve got to be quick because the seats are limited!
