Mariah's powerful gospel-tinged new single, "I Want to Know What Love Is," a revival of Foreigner's 1984 hit, premiered at European and Australian radio on Friday, August 28, 2009. We asked our readers what they thought of the song, and here's what they had to say.

AUSTRALIA
Amazing, subtle, elegant and beautiful intro, leads you to a bridge of something special, reminding you of why Carey is such a global success. Then the power and notes that only Mariah Carey can provide, finishes the song, warming the heart of every lamb on the planet. This song is an audio feast for the hardcore fans, but also a searing light guaranteed to brighten shadow of doubt about this amazing artist's ability, talent and passion. - Gavin, Brisbane

Mariah at her classic best! She soars to new heights in this spine tingling ballad. I can't get enough of it. A sure fire number one hit! It's one of those songs where you fall in love at the very first instant. I can't wait til the rest of the world falls in love too! - Kristal, Sydney

I am a huge Mariah fan, but this is not what I was expecting. Maybe it's just the song itself, because I know she is amazing. As an album track, this song is perfect, as a single, not so much. It is a great re-work but I'm not feeling it. I will support it as a lamb, but you have a reputation to live up to Mariah. I LOVE YOU. - Michael

BELGIUM
I first heard I Want To Know What Love Is at breakfast and I had goosebumps all over me! It's SO beautiful and simple. A classic! She brings it so softly and ends with a bang and those typical notes. I'm in love with the song, it's perfect for me! One I'll cherish forever! - Lorenzo De Coster, Ghent/Merelbeke

Wow! I am really glad Mariah has done this cover. It sounds fresh and her voice sounds really good. The music is sounds like the original as far as I can tell but has those "Mariah" "breaks" and prominant beat (almost like "We Belong Together"). The layers of the choir, Mariah lead vocal and backing vocal are all mixed really well... giving that Mariah edge, especially the whistle in the background. (Mariah I am holding thumbs for the live performance) ut just remember you have nothing to prove us. We know you good and you know you good so just sing for us with your heart as always. - Reece, Brussels

BRAZIL
It's like a Queen has been back to her Kingdom. It's party and happiness all over. She has finally done it again. Mariah's uncomparable voice reaches heaven like we were used to feel. The deep-feeling song that once made it a classic has become even deeper along with Mariah's sweet-yet-strong vocals. Her melismas are back at the front page, dancing with those whistles that seem to let you hypnotized. So if you got emotional with the piano intro, passional with the whispered chorus, apprehensive with the bridge and mesmerized with the end, then you're able to say that you know what a true voice is. Hands down, lambs. We finally got our Queen back to the ballads kingdon. We don't need to care of how good this song will make on radios once we can be sure that this is definitely Mariah being loyal to what made us fall in love with her the most. Thank you, MC. You certainly gave us your all on this. - Ana

All I have to say about this MIMI's new song is... one of the best I've ever heard! She sing with her soul, it's incredible and inspiring...it really touched my soul. Thanks Mariah for bringing us your music, and all Brazilian fans are happy 'cause you're still that good! It's another 1#! - Cleiton

Mariah never ceases to amaze us with her incredible talent to make songs we may have never appreciated much become favourite ones. Her beautiful voice is capable of turning anything into a moment of glory. When I first heard it, I felt like falling in love with someone again. The whistle at the end was the best I ever heard! Just my two thumbs up! - Daniel Martins, Pindamonhangaba, Sao Paolo

Mariah really knows what love is... She shows to all the world how to produce and, mainly, how to sing a ballad. Mariah succeeded in converting a 80's classic song into a modern R&B hit. Ladies and gentlemen, Mariah is back! - Vitor Hugo Neia, Sao Paolo

The first time I stopped to pay attention to the lyrics of "I Wanna Know What Love Is" was when I was watching a great episode of "Cold Case." It's impossible that someone doesn't feel so heart-touched with the universal message it's got. And when I knew Mimi was going to cover it I felt so blessed. She knows how to put the essential (and rare!) lyrism in every ballad she sings. Probably it's going to find a similar huge success that "We Belong Together" did. As expected, Mariah made it a Mariah song: again, she proved how genuine is her talent and how crystalline is her soul. And that’s why we love her so much! - L. Fellipe Almeida, Sao Paolo

BRUNEI
The old Mariah Carey of the 90's is certainly back and she is back with an enormous bang! Her rendition reminds me so much of her old albums and that's how I became one of her biggest fan. She hits every note with beautiful melismatic precision and it's genuinely heart-wrenching. And don't even get me started with her whistle register! She hasn't hit as much or as high notes as that in a very long time. I think ever since the Emotions era. The whole song is already a big hit and Mariah made it even more humongous! I was literally (and hysterically) in tears the first time I heard it! I can't wait for the video and I so hope it's much much better than Bringin' On The Heartbreak. This is a definite Number One! So looking forward for the album! Love you, MC! - Deeny Yahya, Bandar Seri Begawan

CAMBODIA
Oh My God! Not because I love Mariah so much that's why I think this song is great. To be honest, the song is already so classic but Mariah turned it to even more classic and greater. Wish I had more thumbs than just two to give... that's too bad. Can't wait to hear the full-length version. - Vuth Sovin Chem

CANADA
I really must say it's one of the best songs I have heard from her since TEOM. Not to drag down E=MC2 I really liked that CD b/c it showed us another side of her. But E=MC2 was lacking the slow ballads that Mariah is so famously well known for. This song is much better then the original. Mariah can belt out those notes higher than what was presented in the original. On top of that, who cannot wait to see this performed live?! Am i right?! It will be amazing! Just makes me even more excited for the album release on Sept. 29th! - Justin, Lloydminster, Alberta

OMG the song is awesome. Gave me goosebumps. The voice is great. Reminds me of Fly Like a Bird off the Emancipation CD. Obsessed should have been her 19th #1, but this one will make it to the top for sure. We clearly see why Mariah is the biggest selling female artist. - George, Montreal

As soon as I heard I Want To Know What Love Is, I was so happy with everything from it. It had a slow-head-bobbing beat and the lyrics were heart-filling. And in the end it became a very powerful song with the choir singing in the backround. This is going to be a definite kareoke song. (And I'll be first to perform) hahah. - Andrew Crisostomo, Niagara Falls

The vocals are very controlled and beautiful. She transitions beautifully from low to high and most importantly is able to convey great emotion. This is going to be a hit. Can't wait for the rest of the album. - Vladimir, Toronto

THE VOICE IS BACK! Mariah knocks it outta the park with this one! Right from the first note you can feel the emotion Mariah poured into this song. It's got heart and it's got soul (and it's got the high notes!). "I Want To Know What Love Is" is Mariah at her best! Singing her heart out in this ballad that is sure to become an MC classic. - Eliza Pendleton, Victoria, BC

I just heard this song over Mariah Daily. I am quite a fan since Vision of Love, and although enjoyed Mariah doing songs she can only do, I DON'T LIKE this to be the 2nd single. I think Mariah needs something better than this to stir up the competition. Sticking to the ballad seems to be not working anymore, look at I stay In Love - Ivan Sioson

CHILE
Me gustan los arreglos vocales que le puso a la cancion, me encantaria verla en vivo, va a ser increible. Los arreglos me recuerdan a Underneath The Stars, Always Be My Baby, Melt Away. Me gusta como suena su voz. Me gusto mucho. La base instrumental no me convence tanto, la encuentro muy parecida a la version original y muy suave, le da poca fuerza a la cancion y la hace sonar muy adolecente o como musica para adolecentes. Ojala que sea un gran exito. - Gabriel C., Santiago

CHINA
I am a Chinese fan of Mariah Carey. I love this song, a masterpiece. It's been a long time no hear Mariah singing this kind of classical ballads on her new album. Mariah is back with her beautiful and strong voice. I've heard this original version by Foreigner, I like the brand-new interpretation of Mmariah, it's more emotional and tender. I'm repeating it again and again. - Rock Lee

When I first listened to this song, I was really moved by the emotion that connected to this song. And I think this song give us a signal that MIMI wanna go back to her 90's. Some criticism about her voice's going worse was just crap. I think her voice changed a little and become more mature and emotional and sexier. And she still got that range. I mean, this song really can let somebody shut up. She proves that she is Mariah Carey, the one and the only. She is the true diva forever in my heart. To this song, I can love it more... I mean, what can we really expect from her? She has singed for us for almost twenty years, she dedicates her whole time to us, including her voice's peak period. If anyone criticizes her, he must ask his conscience first. - Mario Ma, Guangzhou

COSTA RICA
I expected this single with so much excitement since it was praised in some reviews and being the 2nd single I thought it was going to be the bomb. Unfortunately, it left me disappointed and empty of that soul and feeling that is characteristic of Mariah's ballads. The production is definitely the weak point in the song, the finger click and piano just don't work. Mariah's vocals are ok, but it would have been better if she had sung in the same register like "Without You" and not so soft and breathy. The transition to the chorus at the end of the song is done too strong, it feels forced and cliched. James "Big Jim" Wright didn't give the same magic as "Fly Like A Bird." Overall, I expected more and I hope she does better with next single. - Hector Montiel, San Jose

CURACAO
'I want to know what love is' is AMAZING! You don't have to be a fan of MC to love this song. It touches you immediately. The drums at the end are hearthwarming, the ending is undescribable. The ALBUM ... is going to be a complete and total SUCCESS! - Iman Augusta

CZECH REPUBLIC
It's so beautiful and makes me cry, whenever I listen this song. Love it. It's absolutely the best. Mariah, thank you for your songs. You make me happy anytime I hear you. Your songs are so emotional, that I can make it through the rain :) THANK YOU for all you doing for us fans. - Adam Gabryš

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
The Real MC has enter the building! Just amazing, this is what we've been waiting for... amazing vocals, she's really feeling it. This could become one of her greatest singles. Keep up the good work MCC! - Joel Polanco

FINLAND
Mariah has a hit in her hands! At first I didn't know what to expect, but when I played the song I was like Wow! "I want to know what love is" is going to be a hit song! Cant't wait to hear the whole song! - Olli

FRANCE
I've been a Mariah lamb since 1997 but I'm not one of those who constantly say they miss the "old Mariah" because I appreciate that she has taken risks and explored her artistry lyrically & musically over the years. But I must admit that on hearing "I Want To Know What Love Is," I told myself that "Diva Mariah" had been eclipsed by "Classic Mariahn" for a song at least. The beginning of the song is sung mostly in whispery vocals and sometimes less is more. More, because belting right from the beginning of the song would be non-sense and more, because when you listen to the end of the song, that's when the thrill really begins! While the 1st-verse-chorus-2nd verse are quite soft, background vocals (sounding like a small choir) kick in the 2nd chorus and Mmariah adlibs on top of it. For some reason, the bridge has been left out (radio edit or Mariah's choice), instead the song takes you directly to the 3rd chorus with a change of key, which enhances the feeling that you're in for a vocal display. And that's exactly what you get, Mariah takes you higher (pun intended) as she belts and lets out a wonderful whistle note that spans more than 1 octave (a la "Bringin' On The Heartbreak"). As a Mariah fan you'll get chills down your spine from this one note! All in all, it's a great cover, the focus is on Mariah's vocals (not like on E=MC²) and you wish the song would last a bit longer. But hey, that's when the repeat mode comes in handy! - Alex Vassal, Grenoble

I've listened to I Want To Know What Love Is on the net! I really love it! I think Mariah is definitely on the way to know what love is when her voice climbs at the end of the song! But I think that the song could have been better if it had lasted 45 seconds more! It's too short I think as the song ends when you are really about to know what love is! So please Mariah fix it! This remake is obviously more RnB with a gospel flavour at the end of the song even if I thought that the choir part would sound like Anytime You Need A Friend but it's not the case! It's an RnB gospelic flavour mixed! And the voice of Mariah sounds pretty amazing with those cry made with her whistler register! - Davy Mpaga, Le Havre

I'm absolutely in love with this new song, it reminds me old success like "Against All Odds" or "I Still Believe" with the chorus. Mariah Carey, the voice, comes back and I hope there will be a lot of songs like this. Future 19th number one in "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel". Thanks a lot Mariah! - Medhi, Nîmes

After a day of attentive listening, I am finally not as shocked (in a positive way) as during my first listening. Certainly the intro and the first verse are extremely beautiful, but the more we progress the more this beauty becomes blurred (it is my personal opinion) and the end is not so crazy (excepted for the high notes)and very confused. Yes, it is not the full version, but regrettably, it is what will be diffused in radio and what the non-fans will hear. And it is not a so good cover. Honestly. We are simply satisfied because we hear Mariah's full voice and it can falsify our judgment on the quality of the cover. Later, it is evident that I would be the first one to roar as a poor virgin by hearing Mariah singing it live. I was just waiting for something else as a single. - Thomas

GERMANY
I missed out the premiere of the song because I don't live in that region anymore. On work my internet stream doesn't work but the 45 second clip sounds very promising. It gave me goose bumps and her vocal performance really, really touched me though I imagined it differently. I love Mariah no matter what she does but that song could be a big hit over here! I'm looking forward to hearing the entire song, not to mention the album. - Frank, Munich

I really like the song, the piano intro is very beautiful and the whole song is very special. Good work Mariah ! Sounds great. I can't wait to have the song on CD. - Manfred Berger, Munich

I've heard the new Mariah song this morning on German radio! It was great! I would like to hear it again... but we have to wait. :( A typically Mariah power ballad! So wonderful. - Anja, Gevelsberg

First I was shocked because of her whiserping voice on the snippet. I hoped that she would use this voice in the full song and I was not disappointed. What I heared was "The Voice"! That's how I want her to sound like. I'm totally stunned and excited to hear the new album. Her version is so much better than the original, there's much more LOVE in this song. She really sings like she really wants to know what love is, she's begging, I'm loving it! The intro is amazing! The piano fits so perfectly for this song. I'm happy she stayed by her "Mariah-formula." Her voice is so powerful and soft at the same time. This is what I call art. I can't wait to see her performing this song. - Christine

INDONESIA
Perfect! That's I think when I hear this song... the piano play on the opening very touching, my heart melting and when there some claps finger with Mariah`s vocal begin, I feel frightened and I feel wanna cry i miss Mariah's sing like this. But I think is kinda short and when the climax of this song begin, the song just over like that. One thing I know for this song is, Mariah bring the great emotional with all of music and her vocal. She just like let go of all her problem, a bad criticism for her, etc and sing just for herself, forget everything. I feel like she ask us to sing together... she prove that she still have a beautiful voice and heart, don't care what peoples say about her, she just singing and singing. And this song is told to the world who is Mariah Carey.... the real diva you'll never forget. - Enrico F Siahaan

I think this is okay. After first chorus, this song is damn fine! And the ending with the whistle note, wow, amazing. But, the first chorus is too much 'whisper', and the ending should be more longer and nicer fade out. Mariah's voice is changed, I love when she sing the word "is" at "I want to know what love is". Love this version. Good job MC! - Ongki

IRELAND
I don't even know what to say... I am still speechless! She sang it so .. so amazingly! I keep listening and cannot stop. Mariah is back! I can feel it now. And I also want to know what love is... - Alina, Dublin

ISRAEL
This is one of the most heartfelt and honest vocal performance I've heard from anyone in a while. Mariah took the song to a whole new level and she gave everything. You can feel the pain and then the love that she is going through while singing the song. I'm crying like a little kid (LOL! And laughing at myself too). Mariah touches our souls. Thank you Mariah! - Tomer, Beer Sheva

ITALY
I've just listened to the song....first of all...the fact that it's a cover it's not so exciting, then this song has been used in Italy for a spot of an ice cream, (watch here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9AefU5KbVY) so it's quite strange to listen it sung by MC. Anyway, the voice, and the arrangemente so 90's are very good. But it's possible that no one can write a new original song with this mood with Mariah?!?! The fact that is a cover seems that she has afraid to made a mistake. - Andrea Cappa, Brescia

JORDAN
The song is absolutely AMAZING! The vocals, the piano... perfect in every sense. Mariah has outdone herself in this song and positioned herself as a modern diva but 100% original and true to her roots! It's like Mariah 1990 meeting Mariah 2009. Please forward all the fan reviews for Mariah, some haters with loud voices can affect her and we don't want that, we want her focused on promoting this angelic gift! - Tamer Al Massadeh, Amman

KUWAIT
I'm one of the biggest Mariah Carey fans in Kuwait :) To be so honest I do like the song. I know she made it too short than the basic one. She made it in American black style which is good, nice to listen, full of emotion but there is not enough music in the song. I don't know since she is working with The-Dream she doesn't use it like before. I adore Mariah's voice but I really don't know what really happen with her voice something really wrong and we want to know why her voice not clear enough to hear it on the song. We do love Mariah but as a brave fan I should have to tell the truth. I thought this record gonna be so big more than this but this is Mimi and we do love her. - Mohammed AL Azmi, Downtown Kuwait City

LEBANON
For any Mariah fan, she fails to disappoint as she beautifully puts her own touch to Foreigner's classic. It's her soft "whisper-y" voice along with a sweet dreamy melody. For any Music fan, Mariah's rendition is a little raw when compared to the original as she strips it down to an acappella-like start until she hits a full blown out crescendo. She manages it through it all to sound pure. - Youmna Naufal, Beirut

MALAYSIA
I have already heard the whole song, all i can say is Mariah has reached another phase of her music career vocally and as a singer. Words can't describe how I felt about this song, just go and listen for yourself fans and non-fans then you know what i mean. Thank God this is not a We Belong Together part-3. - Ian Lim

The first listen to its 10 sec snippet makes my adrenaline jumps 103 degrees. After listening to the full version I'm blown away as always and I said to myself 'this is why I'm obsessed with Mariah'. Malaysians love 'ballad' and Mariah was an omniqueen of ballad here. All the best to this single and I am praying hard that this will be Mariah's 19th #1. - Rasyidan Ishak, Negeri Sembilan

Mariah must have sung this song to herself way before she knows nostalgia. A cover made as her own brilliantly. It's been awhile since she last gone deep with such incredible range. The song makes me want to be IN LOVE. - Hafiz, Kuala Lumpur

THE NETHERLANDS
I love it, can't wait to hear the complete version. Hope it will be a big hit in the Netherlands but unfortunately Mariah is not so populair here. - Ben

I can't stop crying! Mariah sings this song so strong! Love her always! In this version of I Want To Know What Love Is, she makes me feel thinking that she finally knows! - Lex

PARAGUAY
I think the song is pretty amazing! Really touching and it'll be an instant hit! And it gives 'Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel' the perfect introduction on how most of the songs in the album will be like. The vocals are classic Mariah. And I loved the fact that she added a choir. It gave the song more strength and power. And it'll make it pretty amazing to perform the song live and with the choir in the back like she does with 'Make It Happen'. Very well done! And it'll conquer a whole new audience that never heard the original. - Guido Rafael Rojas, Asuncion

PHILIPPINES
"I Want To Know What Love Is" is Amazing, Perfect and Very Emotional Cover! Mariah made her own version! Mariah is so emotional and you feel it! It you makes u cry! The voice is so great and it will explode your eardrum in her high notes! hehe! I listened it over and over again! I'm so excited on her new album! Can't wait! - Angelo Avelino

I also heard the original version of "I Want To Know What Love Is" and it was good, but Mariah's rendition is way way better... even if the tempo of the original version was there, I must say it gave a rebirth with the greatest female artist of all time... I was stunned with the instrumental touches to the song and the high note parts... it was perfect and brilliant! For sure it'll be the next number 1 song of Mimi... I can't wait to hear all of the singles included in Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel - Jukie

After listening to the 10-sec clip, I was really excited to hear the whole song. I was so happy when I finally heard the song. MCC has done it again. All her songs/remakes are really awesome. MCC owns every song she sings, whether it's hers or a remake. This is one of the few love songs she has. I mean almost all her songs are sad and heartbreaking (e.g. Love Takes Time, We Belong Together). It's not like I hate those songs. Those are actually my favorites. What I'm saying is that, the past two albums E=MC2 and Memoirs have songs that are kind of different (in theme I guess). E=MC2 has 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time' and 'Love Story.' This new album has (as of the moment) 'I Want To Know What Love Is.' These songs show that she is really in love. I love how MCC incorporates real life experiences in all her songs. And I love how she expresses herself through music because it helps us, lambs, connect with her. I love love MCC so so much. I'm so excited for Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. :D WE LOVE YOU MCC! - Justine Buenaobra

Mariah Carey raised the bar with her rendition of the Foreigner's 'I Want To Know What Love Is'. I wouldn't even like to say that she 'covered' the song because she has definitely owned it! Like 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak', Mariah has once again given a new perspective to a classic track, singing it on a female point of view. The track started dramatically with subtle piano keys of the chorus. The echoing effect of Mariah's voice during the b-section gave me chills as it produces an angelic vibe to the track. The signature airy voice on the chorus is reminiscent of 'Through The Rain'. And the gospel element due to the choir heightens the impact of this song. Mariah surely knows vocal acrobatics to impress her audience. And of course, it wouldn't be a killer track without Mariah whistling. For sure, when someone asks, "Who sings 'I Want To Know What Love Is?', I'd be expecting a "Mariah Carey" answer. She totally nailed it! She may be an imperfect angel, but undeniably, this track has got to fly. - Mark Vincent Vargas, Cebu City

After the school dismissal, I hurriedly put my butt pon the computer seat and visit this website. Good thing they got the 45 seconds. As I am listening to the song, I'm very surprised and very proud of Miss Mariah for covering this song and made it better than the original. I knew it, Mariah never fails when doing covers. - Paolo Poblete, Cebu City

Mariah is owning "I Want To Know What Love Is' like in every cover song she did. This is a brave move in this time when pop, dance and upbeat are everywhere; this ballad can do wonder. Mariah can pull this one through as always. The released version is shortened. Hoping the complete song is still up for us to experience. I'm listening in repeats. - June G. Cabalejo, Manila

She nailed it! Her version blew me away! Like from the beginning, when the piano start it's so magical the way she sang it, breathy and softly, full of heart! And at the end when she kicks up her high notes and the way she belt it, it reminds me of the Mariah before and I was like she still have the voice, that amazing, unparalleled voice! It captures something inside of me, after I've heard it I still keep on playing it over and over again and after I heard it I was like I need to inform my friends (hehe). I made it as a status on my YM (the song's title) and I was like clicking all the names on my address book and send the link which they can hear Mariah's version of this amazing song! I'm sure this will going to be a big hit and will be her 19th #1! I LOVE YOU MARIAH! - James

POLAND
Mariah's version of 'I Want to Know What Love Is' is absolutely jaw-dropping! Amazing, heavenly vocals. She is the only one singer able to sing that gently and beautiful! Ultimate Diva! I hope this will be her 19th #1. - Sara

RUSSIA
I am obsessed with this song. Seriously, it's been on repeat in my head for the past two days. I can't decide what I find more compelling, the musical arrangement, great vocal, melody and composition of the song. So what can I say? This is brilliant! - Shamil Niyazov, Tobolsk

SCOTLAND
It feels like Mariah is going back to her roots but still keeping it current with this track. I love the song! However, I hope that there is an extended mix on the album. It's not like her to have a Ballad under 4 mins long. Hopefully just a radio edit at the moment. Loving the song tho S.G.S.H.W! Can't wait for the album! - Ryan Marshall, Glasgow

SINGAPORE
Mariah Carey has revived the classic Foreigner's song and she definitely hit the ball out of the park with this one... and hit a homerun... I mean her vocals were off the chain and overall she did this song justice and rightfully so, to be appreciated by the current generation. With this song, she showcases her voice which she has been famous for and hopefully will shut those who have been hating on her hard and has been up out her face LOL. I personally love her strong chest voice in this and the belting is just mindblowing at the end. Her emotions just shine through this powerful rendition and I feel Mariah Carey has brought the already great song to and even greater height! I'm so proud to be a Lamb4Life and I feel THE Mariah Carey deserves Standing O's (wink) with this song. I'm so amped for the album! - Shafiq Rafi

I managed to hear the full version of the song, it's simply breathtaking! Just wished that the song could be a little longer, nonetheless, this is a killer song! Listen for Mariah's super high notes... it just gives you goosebumps. This must be Mariah 19th #1 no doubt! - Hairul

I'm lovin' this new single. Mariah did it again, she really owns the song! I love the high notes, only Mariah can do it! - Lionel, Yishun

Personally I think she didn't do that well for this song. It's a bit of a disaster for a standard like Mariah's. The original song was full of energy and had backing singers which sounded like choir, and there were more instruments like an organ. Mariah's cover lacked a lot of depth and the octave shift was horrible. It worked really well for "We Belong Together" but definitely not for this song. The chorus part came and then there was like too much of her hissing voice. And the ending part was very jam packed with too much and it sounded very complicated and you can't really hear her, it was super messy. The whistling didn't do well for this song and if it was short, it was already quite horrible but she did it slightly prolonged. - Sai Keet

Love the remake of I Wanna Know What Love Is. I listen every day like 2-3 hrs continuously! - Serena

SOUTH AFRICA
I am falling more and more in love with Mariah's version on every listen! It reminds me of why I fell in love with her music nearly 20 years ago! I love how she NEARLY gives "I love OLD Mariah" fans what they want - in the beginning it's an AC ballad, but - being Mariah - she takes the listener on a detour via the ghetto before ending up in church! Oh I love her :) Her "I like Old School Mariah" fans are going to fall big time for this - and it's amazing enough to keep those of us who like Experimental Mariah interested too. I mean, she's practically PURRING in parts of it - she sounds amazing on this track! I love how she can STILL surprise me after 20 years of devoted fandom! Eat this one, critics! - Sieraaj Ahmed, Cape Town

I just heard the new single by MC via youtube.com. Carey starts the song with breathy vocals. She glides through chorus with her vocals which I would describe as sweet and celestial. From the second part on, MC goes into her upper register before unleashing her trademark register which I say is similar to There's Got to Be a Way, Bringing on the Heartache and Fly like a Bird. It is a definite radio hit and will light up the charts once again. I give this an 8/10. Carey delivers on this one more than "Obsessed," although "Obsessed" is a great in its own right. This is a definite return for the diva. - Lee Siebritz, Cape Town

Mariah Carey makes a BOLD statement with her calculated second single off her upcoming album. Once again she raises the bar and distances herself from the ensuing pack. From the delicate piano intro to the heaven moving climax at the track ends, only one thing is clear: Mariah's voice shines through with emotion and unmatched command. Love come find me please... Mariah's made me believe it again. - Zane Alley, Durban

I think the song is just inspiring. She reinvented Foreigner's song and I have no doubts this track will fare well on the world charts. With uptempo music dominating these days we have forgotten what it's really like to belt out a song and evoke people's emotions. Mariah has reminded us why we love her! - Imran Khan, Johannesburg

That is exactly what we have been waited for...Years and years i dreamed of hearing those high notes and that few seconds gave me goose bumps...That is the shit right there...THE OLD CLASSIC MARIAH CAREY IS BACK BABY! - Cobus Smit, Paarl

I think it is awesome. A definite #1! I love it, love it, love it! - Challa

For some reason this woman can take a classic and make it her own. She's one of the few artists who have this ability. From I'll Be There to Without You and let's not forget her Phil Collins cover. Totally love her rendition (could only hear the 45s clip) and I know the full song is a smash. That’s what she does, isn't it? "... to change this lonely life...' The best part of the song in my opinion. Guess I'll have to wait for the album - can't wait anymore though. Thanks MC for once again delivering the goods. - Conrad

SOUTH KOREA
Korea can't express highly enough of how excited we are. On behalf of all the lambs in Korea, I just want to say this is such a brilliant song choice for the 2nd single from 'Memoirs of Imperfect Angel'. I guess 'Obsessed' was nothing more than Mariah's reaction to M&M and she's now showing her artistic aspect as expected. Honestly, I'd never heard of 'IWKWLI' before the remake rumour came up and I was literally devastated cause the original song wasn't really 'it' to me. Listening to Mariah's version of Foreigner's classic, it brought tears to my eyes and listen-and-cry thing isn't really me! I'm deeply impressed by how Mariah took this song to the next level and, once again, she fufilled what's been lacked in today's music. One thing I want to address is the length of song since the original 5-minute song was shortened to 3:37. I felt like the song suddenly ended when it got to the point where you're just about to get chilled all around but Ii'm still happy about this song. With the upcoming album, it seems that Mariah will demonstrate her great capabality throughout various genres, not sticking to the uptempo songs. Terribly excited x 100! 'Memoirs of Imperfect Angel' will definitely be one of Mimi's best works ever done. Thanx Mariah for doing it again - Craig Jung, Seoul

SPAIN
I have just listened to the song I have to say that I really like it even more than the Foreigner's version. Mariah's voice sails between the lyrics harmoniously and with a melancholic feeling which allows the listener to really feel the song and its lyrics, and to access into the same in depth. Of course, we cannot forget to mention the last part of the song, where Mariah exercises her upper register accompanied by a gospel choir, making the song sound powerful, moving and exciting. Being honest, I have to say that I have been deeply touched by the song and Mariah's voice, and I deem "I want to know what love is" will instantly become a Mariah classic, regardless the position it could eventually reach in the charts. Should I have to find fault with the song, I would say that although Mariah carries out a big effort concerning high notes, her voice does not sound as clear and powerful as it used to, and that she does not seem to hold high notes the way she used to, for example, when singing "We Belong Together" live. In any case, she still has a great and unique voice, and a rare ability to reach very difficult notes. Therefore, in case I had to mark the song, I would give it 9/10. - Javier Luque

In my opinion, I Want To know What Love Is is too SHORT. I wish I could hear a longer version on the album, and I hope that what we've heard is only a "radio edit". With regard to Mariah's voice, I think that's amazing, but I don't like when she sings whistles as a background, and I expected a clear and great high note at the end of this song, and that's why I'm a little dissapointed. - María Álvarez Estévez, Vigo

Mariah once again proves that she can make a cover and improve the original version with the passion and emotion she always put in it. This new version is such a merge of early 90's Mariah and 2005's Mimi, just a perfect combination. - Mike Gonzalez

SWEDEN
I think it is a divine work of art! When I heard it this morning i actually started to cry of joy! This is more than just a Mariah song, this is soulful and pure and I can't wait to hear more from the album! What I like about the song is that Mariah is using more of her gorgeous voice in a lower key. And the belting part is now even more powerful and i get chills everytime i listen to it! - Daniel

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
When I first heard the 10 second preview of "I Wanna Know What Love Is', I was worried, I thought, "oh no she's using her whispery voice in the song, this is not going to be good!" Boy, was I wrong! This is a fantastic remake, a blend of smooth silky low key vocals combined with clear strong vocals, the result? Perfection. This is the Mariah I've been missing. Her voice is clear, and full of emotion, which is felt all throughout the song and especially as it reaches its peak at the phenomenal ending, where she soars "higher than the heavens above." My one complaint, is the song's length, it is just too short, it should have been longer at the end there, it just feels like it ends too soon. That said, I really hope this song charts well for her, she totally deserves it. One of her best remakes! - Legere Bux

TUNISIA
"Gonna take a little time" to have MiMi again not only as a Diva but as Memoirs as #1 Album! Can't Wait to hear the album! I loved every second of the song. I was excited about it actually and I was absolutely RIGHT! Mariah, you're amazing. This is how hits should be! I loved the rhythms, the lyrics, the voice... EVERYTHING! I'm wondering how it's gonna be after, maybe the next "Hero" or "My All"... I hope so! Can't find what to say more, sure it won't be enough for u Mimi! Loved it! - Heni, Gabes

UNITED KINGDOM
"I want To Know What Love Is"... well Mariah Carey has shown me... it is having the ability to transform any melody and lyric into heart wrenching, emotive power ballad! The song starts softly, a few piano bars, then Mariah comes in with her lower register, sounding full, rich and healthy (That's one to the haters!!) a joy (Especially for us hardcore fans)... the song's melody is classic and instantly enjoyable, the light almost tentative first chorus paves way for more lower register vocals that then explode in a fabulous crescendo where Mariah shows off her vocal prowess and those lovely high notes. The song is only 3:36 so is over pretty quickly, but rather than be a hindrance it actually works in favour of the song leaving the listener gasping for more! A truly deserved 19th Number 1. - Mark Chambers, Birmingham

From the snippet I wasn't that happy with the song - the breathy singing kind of annoys me! But the full length is AMAZING... I actually can't stop listening to it! It's like any old Mariah ballad - with the quiet singing at the start and then the huge vocals at the end! This is going to attract people who may not be Mariah fans which is a good thing as this (I have a feeling) is going to be huge - possibly global (if she promotes it right)! Well Done Mariah! Can't wait for the album! - Tina Marsh, Christchurch

Mariah's version is simply the best as it makes one forget that this is a cover. The solo piano, the strong vocal through out, the amazing whistle register, the inspiring choir... what can I say... great production. I only got to listen to about 3m38s of the song but I hope it's longer. - Jonathan P Naintin, London

Sometimes lambs get too caught up with #1's. This song is an instant classic and as a die-hard Mimi fan, I don't really care about its peak position on the US Billboard 100. A track like this is simply a gift to us and a reminder to the haters that she's still got the most versatile and beautiful voice out there. Well done Mariah, if this is as good as it gets on Memoirs, I'll be happy. - Marc Blair, London

I like the song a lot. I don't like it when Mariah sings in her whispy whispering vocal at all. Most lambs don't like this. In the song she switches in and out of full voice and whispy. It's a shame as the song would have been perfect if it was not for this. TEOM was a smash as the majority of the songs were sang in full voice plus there was a lot of promo. I think this could be a smash but she NEEDS to promote this loads. - Ricky Patel, London

After the lack of strong ballads on E=MC2, fans are finally treated to some Classic Mariah! This is her strongest ballad since Emancipation and her voice is on top form, especially at the end. The live instruments towards the end leave the production of the track no less than perfect! In fact the only negative is that last section is far too short, and the track fades out quite abruptly. - Paul O'Leary, London

The song starts off with the melancholy piano solo, then Mariah's calm, soothing vocals gently fade in. By the second chorus Mariah has already teased us with little glimmers of belting, until she goes full out and unleashes her magnificent voice. A choir and even some whistle notes are thrown in for good measure. Mariah did justice to the original; from beginning to end her vocals complement the beautiful lyrics perfectly. I'm still unsure whether the iTunes generation will buy this, but one thing I do know is that this will be an X Factor/American Idol favourite in the years to come. - Faraz Ghani, Nottingham

'I Want To Know What Love Is' is absolute perfection. Mariah shows all the people who doubt her that he is still the queen of music. It is a staggeringly amazing re-make of the song, something only Mariah could do, with the sheer vocal excellence that shows in the song. #1 single on the Hot 100 for sure! - Aaron W

I Wanna Know What Love Is - Instant Classic. From the simplicity of the opening piano to the huge choral ending it is classic Mariah. The soulful breathiness of her voice as she sings the first line of the chorus for the first time "I wanna know what love is" will give you goose flesh, tear at your heart and leave you with one track on repeat all day - it's what makes Mariah, Mariah. Thanks Mariah. Oh Happy Day! - Adam Brooks

I absolutely love this song, I am a huge fan of the original version because I think the lyrics are quite deep. Mariah's vocals are amazing and really bring out the emotion of the lyrics, this song will surely do well and hopefully become her 19th #1 single. This song shoves it to them haters who say Mariah has lost her voice by proving she can still hit and hold notes most artists can only dream of, well done Mariah xx - Aidan Newman

People often say that some classic songs should be left alone and never covered. However, Mariah covers one of the most epic songs of our time and she makes the song into a modern day version. Her vocals are refreshing and powerful rather than some music we hear nowadays. When she transcends from the breathy-style voice to her legendary belting voice which is accompanied by her whistle register, this formula of different styles of voice, compose this song into a potential hit. I thought it would be good, but i didn't realise how good this version would be. This is amazing. Although many of the #1 hits in the world today are unfortunately, ample with electro-pop and indie style music, this song paves the way for Mariah to show that she is Number One and for people to realise that vocals do matter in a true artist. Mariah is a true artist. Unbelieveable songwriting abilities (which she doesn't need to showcase in every song), producing her own music and her most treasured instrument: her voice. - Rob Roberts

U.S.A.
Must say I looked up the original version, which was good I see why it was a top hit for its time, BUT after listening to Mariah's version, I must say she did more than justice to that song... She gave that song a new life. Even thought only heard the 45 seconds of it, I must say it's filled with great emotion and the Choir takes it back to the early 90's Mariah... and I'm loving the feeling it's giving me.... If this doesn't make it to #1, then something is definitely wrong with the charts. - Dario Herrera, Phoenix, AZ

I've always been very pleased with Mariah's cover songs, until now. This has got to be one of the most bland, soulless songs Mariah has ever done. She played it too safe with this song. Even the "choir" in the song can't make you want to go to church. I had been really looking forward to this song. I've even been talking it up to my friends on Facebook. I hadn't heard the song at that time, but I knew that with her track record for cover songs, it would be awesome. Now I'm too ashamed to hit the "share" button on Facebook. My feelings will not be hurt if at the last minute they decide to only have 12 tracks on the new album. - Allan, Arkansas

Mariah's remake of Foreigner's song "I Wanna Know What Love Is" sounds great. Her vocal range on it is perfect. I love this song. It's very pretty. Mariah chose a good song to to a remake on. - Aryana, Concord, CA

This song literally brings chills up my spine, she sounds so angelic & she sings with so much passion & emotion. I'm so excited & can't wait to hear this song everywhere. Thank you Mariah for always singing so beautifully. - Karla DiMajo, Fullerton, CA

My sister told me about her new single & when I heard it, WOW! This song in her voice sounds so amazing. Her voice in this song sounds so powerful filled with so much emotion. This is the old & classic Mariah we all love &apm; miss. I can't wait to hear it in the air waves, a definite #1! - Claudia Di-Majo, Fullerton, CA

I really like this song, to me it's classic Mariah taken to the next level. She is a true artist who can make anything into a masterpiece. If this is just a brief sample of what the album is, then buckle up for a great musical experience. Love me some Mariah Carey. - Richard Cano, Glendale, CA

Mariah's new single is just flawless. She shines, and she finally brought back the type of ballad that made her famous, and that the fans have been asking for! I was truly impressed, because she brought out so much emotion. I felt her emotion throughout the song. I feel like she really took the time to perfect her vocals for this song, because they were so spot on! Loved it, and I can't wait for the album! - Albert, Los Angeles, CA

I actually heard the complete song already. I love the song! It is truly AMAZING. It makes me wish I was in love. =D Mariah sounds amazing and I know this song can make it to number 1. Can't wait for the new album! And I hope all of my fellow lambs love it as much as I do. - Jaime Cerna, Los Angeles, CA

Ok so I just heard the song in its entirety. I must say I'm extremely disappointed. Mariah's voice sounds so ravished, almost as if it is a shell of what it used to be. What is going on with Mariah's voice? Maybe she needs to have vocal-node surgery. It does not sound very good, her notes were moving all over the place. This is not a good sign. And FYI I am actually a LAMB I will purchase the new album because I buy all the Mariah albums because I love her, but this is my honest criticism. I just don't see this being a big single for her, the vocal delivery is scattered with too many fluctuations from the whisper voice and her voice actually sounds hoarse in some areas. Hopefully she delivers on the rest of the album. - Robert McCulley, Los Angeles, CA

I think I Want To Know What Love Is sounds great, but I'm wary of its radio-hit potential. Aside from the whispering at the beginning, Mariah's vocals are incredible. The climax of the song sounds amazing, but then the track abruptly finishes. A little more breathing room at the end would make this song 10 times better. The track doesn't scream "radio smash" like We Belong Together did but I think it's a wonderful and highly emotional showing from MC. I'm extremely excited for the rest of the album, which will hopefully rival her Butterfly record. - Russell, Los Angeles, CA

Mariah Carey's cover of I Want To Know What Love Is is genuinely spine tingling! Both beautifully and meaningfully rendered. Can't help but play it over and over. - Y. Campbell, Los Angeles, CA

Excelent use of all her vocals. Mariah makes this song sizzling HOTT again. Love Ya... M.C. - Kevin, Orange, CA

What a beautiful 30th birthday gift from Mariah! I love the original, but Mariah's version kills the original. Definitely radio-ready, a "Stone Groove Smash Hit"! - Dan4Sel, Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I just listened to the clip of "I Want To Know What Love Is" and I am so impressed by Mariah's version! The entire tonality of the song was brilliant. It really takes you back to Mariah's classic songs that she is so well known for. It gave me chills when I first heard it and then a feeling of excitement for what is to come on Sept 29th! I keep playing the clip over and over... it's just not enough! I want the whole song already! Keep up the great work Mariah! Thank you for letting me review her impressive new single! - Brianna Butler, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

A remake like only Mariah could do. Mariah uses the middle part of her register in a beautiful way that makes her sound so much more sincere in what she is singing. The song lends itself perfectly to the over-the-top choir rousing that builds at the end like the crescendo of a classic movie. Brilliantly done, beautifully artistic, stirringly effective. - Kaleb James, San Diego, CA

Well after listening to the full song a few times, it kinda reminds me of when she covered "Do You Know Where You're Going To". Honestly, I was hoping for something more, some WOW "she really gave this song justice"... but I was let down. Granted I like her version it's subtle and sweet but from the hype from the reviews of the song I'm not sure what they were talking about. As a single for radio? I don't think so. However, I know Mariah makes music for us not to make a "hit" or what's popular on radio, she's established that already we know that. It's a nice album cut but not as single. - Robert Clark, San Diego, CA

I Want To Know What Love Is: Is simply amazing, heartfelt and beautiful. It's so real, the way she sings it... I cried when I heard this morning... I Love it! Thank you MariahDaily, for all these amazing years... you guys are a SMASH! LYL L4L - Rachelle Taylor, San Francisco, CA

I think the song is okay overall. I love her tone and arrangement in the beginning. It builds throughout the whole song. The only problem in my opinion is last minute of the song. I think she over did it by adding the choir like backing vocals. I wish it just focused on her voice because the high notes and belting was great. - John Pearson, San Jose, CA

First 2:15 of the song is great the other half is mediocore, she needs to go back to the basics and get a vocal coach to teach her technique again, she sounds insecure in her singing and sing high notes and ups and downs and jumps in the runs isn't good, especially for a song like this. There's too much happeningin the last 30 or 45 minutes. First half A+ Second half C- could have been alot better with simplier finish and stronger deeper vocals without the bad habits. - Mike Fernandez, Santa Maria, CA

Mariah Carey's Foreigner cover of I Want To Know What Love Is is a stone groove smash hit! It's going to be a classic number 1 for all time no doubt about it. I love the song, it's so perfect, it's stellar. It's just a very incredible song nobody got nothing on Mariah. This song is going to impact alot of people around the world. It's just a stone classic with such a Mariah style that you know you're going to have it on repeat like 300 times. Love love it! It's just very festive. I want to know what love is and indeed I found my true love so it's just amzing. - Vivian, Ventura, CA

Omg! I found the song on "YouTube" (sang like "Touch My Body"). It was amazing! Can't wait till it hits radio! It's ganna be a stone winner at #1! - Ryan Soto, Bridgeport, CT

Review: I love the song. I think her voice sounds strongest than its been in awhile. My concern is that the song is not hype enough for radio right now. She has the current #11 song in the country.. there isn't a stronger single to follow Obsessed up with? H.A.T.E.U.? I am nervous. - Christopher V. Tassa, Washington, DC

I Want To Know What Love Is is a refreshing well sung remake of the classic. Mariah changed the entire tone of the song, changing it from a gospel-tinged ballad to a Gospel-inspired song. It's very well sung and full of emotion. I've been so iffy about her last few releases Touch My Body and Obsessed left me cold. This song is a GREAT return to form. This is a song I would vote, vote vote for on VH1, BET, MTV. I will gladly promote this record for Mimi. - Ty Ty, Washington, DC

I just love, love, love I Want To Know What Love Is...so much. This is the MC ballad that I must admit I have been waiting for, for her to sing in so long since We Belong Together. I got goosebumps when she sings the chorus and I love how she sings, "in my life. There's been heartache and pain," and the first and second verses were great. Her vocals were simply amazing! I love the piano too at the beginning. It's so beautiful. My only complain is that the song's too short, but other than that, it's just awesome and just makes me hungry and listen to it for more. Did I mention, it's been playing non-stop on my car and iPod player. - Jeane, Florida

Wow! Mariah's new song sounds amazing! I can't wait for the full version and the new album to go buy it! This song is positioned to be a HUGE #1 hit! Go Mimi we love u! - Martin, Miami, FL

Mariah's cover of I Want to Know What Love Is definitely does the song justice. The vocals are some of the most powerful vocals I have heard from Mariah in quite a while. But, after you compare the vocals to 2005's The Emancipation of Mimi, she definitely sounds a little squealy and she sang too high. The song is definitely impressive, but she should try to fix the squeal. Aside from that, the cover is near perfect and definitely has potential. - Robert Musalam, Miami, FL

My jaw dropped! It reminded me of her very first album and the passion she always has for her music and fans! We are truly blessed to be a lamb! An angel she is. - Jenn, Navarre, FL

I believe that this song has a huge throw back to the reason we not only all fell in love with Mariah Carey, but also why she is the best selling solo artist of ALL time...the song builds so amazingly and her voice sounds so full and yet tender that you can't help but admire the raw talent that she is. The way her voice leads into the key change and goes all the way up with her incredible whistle register is just so prolific...I truly love this song even more now that Mariah covered it! Great Job MARIAH! - Manuel Rodriguez, North Miami Beach, FL

I've always loved this song so I was anxious to hear Mariah's take on this classic. She stays true to the original but her vocals really take it to another level! I get goosebumps every time I hear it! - Kathryn Mullings, West Palm Beach, FL

Sounds great from here! - Dedric Carroll, Atlanta, GA

When I heard the ten second preview of I Want To Know What Love Is on German radio, I got chills. It was so reminiscent of her early work, and the idea of her revisiting that time excited me. I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach, telling me this would be the first time in a while that a new Mariah song really bowled me over, like Vision of Love or Butterfly did years ago. In its entirety, that didn't happen. I enjoyed the majority of it, but the key change was too abrupt, and unnecessary. It made the song uplifting and cheerful, and what makes the chorus in the rest of the song so great is its melancholy and haunting key. A huge choir and Mariah could've killed it if they kept that throughout. In any case, I like the rest of the song, and the ending isn't a total disaster. I just wish it stayed true to everything that came before it, and wasn't so random. I'll be interested to see how this does on the charts. - Colin, Chicago, IL

Right away the piano notes reminded me of another greatly under appreciated song by Mariah, "Reflections", slowly she builds up her vocal, but then whisper sweetly (to Nick, obviously) at the first chorus. Suddenly she pulls back at "Gonna take a little time" as a woman who knowS what she wants in love, yet reluctantly to go for it, just keep building up that emotion, until the grand finale of the best booming-gospel like production that only Jim Wright delivers, WOW! - Elbert Lee, Boston, MA

Mariah's "I Wanna Know What Love Is" Cover is in one word Amazing. It definitely has a Butterfly era feel to it and the ending with the choir and the whistles are just icings on the cake. "Memoirs" is going to be one Amazing album! - Charia Rose, Detroit, MI

Mariah's rendition of this classic song is like a breath of pure, fresh air, straight out of the 80's! Definitely takes me back to my youth, if nothing else, for the nostalgia! - Dale Kujanson, Ironwood, MI

Let me just say that it is simply AMAZING and PERFECTION! No one can deny The Voice shall never die. - Kristien, St. Paul, MN

The song is beautiful. One of her best songs in a long time. I'm young but I've been a Mariah Carey fan for a while and I appreciate her as an artist altogether. I think more of her mature crowd will respect this song. I just hope that she delivers well in the live performance. But the song is amazing! Best work from her in a while! - Jeremy Anderson, Kansas City, MO

I listened to it and I really liked the part I heard however the news has been making it sound like its gospel-tinged and I don’t really hear that anymore than in the original. Nonetheless it sounds up beat and she sounds smooth and clean. - Jesse, St. Louis, MO

I must say that the song is beautiful and the way Mariah arranged her vocals is fantifaboulous! Through the years I read blogs saying "Mariah needs to get out of the hood and sing and she can't sing anymore." Well I think Mariah is going to blow them off their feet. Mariah is back to prove those haters wrong and show them what love is. - Darrell Adam, Charlotte, NC

I've always loved the song. I think it is very touching and full of emotion. I was excited to hear that Mariah was covering the classic tune. I can't wait to hear it in its entirety. - David Parker, Charlotte, NC

The song first off is an amazing love song and it's a huge honor for Mariah to take it on and put her love, grace and amazing voice on it and her name too so it will always be known from years and years from now. It's sooo beautifully done and she did an amazing job on it. When I hear it I just wanna tear up lol. I know this song will be one of her greatest hits and number 1's. I'm so excited beyond excited to hear the other tracks off of Memoirs Of An imperfect Angel. Can't wait till Sept 29th! - Misti, Mebane, NC

I think Mariah's got another #1 hit on her hands with this song. She intreprets the song like only Mariah can. Her voice sounds great! What's so great about Mariah is that when she sings, you can hear her passion expressed through her voice and it just touches people. She's the real deal and that's what people want. Great, great job Mariah! - Matt, Wilson, NC

The song is beautifully put together. I did not think it would be all that great, the choir revved it up. Mariah's voice was pretty good too. - TJ, New Jersey

Love Love Loved it! I teared up a bit hearing the song. The way she sings it is smooth and very open. I don't think that she could have done it any other way. Go Mariah can't wait for the Album. I'm actually gonna take the day off work to buy it so that I can have a Mariah Carey listening Party for myself with all of her music from the first Vision to Memoirs. - Kenney P, Las Vegas, NV

Well I only heard 45 seconds of the song. Honestly I hate this song I always have. But Mariah has suddenly made me a fan of the song. I love it! I can't wait to hear the whole song! This is her second rock-redo I wish she should work with James Steinman someday. He did a lot of Meatloaf's songs and Celine's It's All Coming Back To Me. Total Eclipse of the Heart. He writes amazing songs I thing she would have a huge hit with one of his songs! - Jon, Las Vegas, NV

I am so proud of the work MC put into this new album. You can tell how much work she put in to make this the greatest album it can be. I Want To Know What Love Is could be one of the best songs she has done in a while. She will do anything she can to make her fans proud, and for me she did. I can't wait to hear the rest, I know it will be great! - Justin Schneider, New York, NY

Every time Mariah attempts to do anything she is met with hostility. However, after reading comments from the FANS on the blog, I can tell that they really enjoy this song. And I am no different. You really feel Mariah here. She sings it beautifully and it gives me a feeling of melancholy and sadness that no one is ever satisfied with her. Well you know what Lambs, we can all stand together and say that Mariah only wants to put out good music for US the FANS and I feel this song accomplishes that. She has outdone herself again. - LJ Regine, New York, NY

I think that Mariah's take on the song is gorgeous and her vocals sound fantastic. However, I think it would be a huge mistake to release this as the second single in the US. It does not have a radio-friendly vibe even though it would sit nicely as an album track. The song has gotten great reviews and deserves them, but that doesn't make it single material. - Nick, New York, NY

Mariah's fresh approach to the 80's ballad "I want to know what love is" (vocally) is bourne of a raw and young sounding Mariah. Only Mariah can ressurect fine lyrics this well. - Chris Grigas, Saratoga Springs, NY

I believe Mariah has done an amazing job just from the clip that is featured on MDJ. The vocals sound really good and I'm proud of her. I'm looking forward to hearing the entire song and also getting the Album. - Barry, Staten Island, NY

I think 'I Want To Know What Love Is' has been reinvented to a whole new perspective with Mariah's rendition. This shows Mariah never went anywhere, and that Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is going to be SO worth the wait. Amazing Mariah! - Ken Tompkins, Staten Island, NY

Absolutely without a doubt amazing. She's doing it again. I love it. Though I heard merely 45 seconds of it, I'm a fan. As always. She can't do anything wrong as far as songs whether they are covers or her own. Mariah always puts her mark on it and makes it her own. Incredible. - Michele, North Canton, OH

I heard the entire new song, "I Wanna Know What Love Is." Overall, the song is great! I love it! Sounds like the old Mariah of her Music Box album days has re-emerged. Can't wait to get the new album. The song sounds pop-ish, with a touch of gospel soul, but is rather inspirational. US radio get ready! A sure Number 1 hit! - Kevin Steverson, Oklahoma City, OK

My name is Kelly I'm 14 from Providence, Rholde Island. All I can say is NO ONE beats Mariah. Mariah's amazing! I cant stop playing the 45 seconds of it lol! I love her and will always be my all time DREAM is to meet her. Everytime I hear a new song by her I am speechless. - Kelly, Providence, RI

Mariah does it best! This new fresh take on I want To Know What Love Is is so powerful and special. It leaves you with a feeling of fulfilled happiness, something we all could have in today's world. This ballad is beautiful, angelic, and classic M.C. From her early days to now, she has continuously put out treasured songs about love and this one is sure to soar high with the best of them. - Brandon Conger, Memphis, TN

I have been a fan of Mariah's since I was 9 years old and she has never let me down. While I was listening to the clip I had goose bumps all over. I LOVE IT! I can’t wait to hear the rest of the song along with the album. Mariah's voice is angelic and her music is therapy. I am forever grateful to her. Thank you Mariah! - Mary Czajkowski, Arlington, TX

Before I give my review of the song I think you should know that I was a teen when Mariah debuted so unlike many young people I didn't just "discover" Mariah's music and I'm a child of the 80's. With that said "I Want To Know What Love Is" is not a song I would listen to on repeat like I did Vision of Love, So Blessed, Can't Let Go or Anytime You Need a Friend. In my musical head "I Want To Know What Love Is" is a big vocal ballad and it should have been sung the way Mariah would have in 93/94. As a child of the 80's I know the song well and I even remember watching the video over and over on MTV and VH1 back when they actually played videos. I know I only heard a snippett of the song but from what I heard I am not excited about the upcoming release of Mariah's new album. I guess you can say that is partly because I still prefer the "old" Mariah to the "new" Mariah vocally and music wise. - Vanessa Richardson, Bell, TX

As someone who is extremely familiar with the song by its originator Foreigner, I was eager to hear Mariah’s spin on this power ballad. Musically the song is true to form of its predecessor. The instrumental is heavier on piano and fringes on the gospel level in its climactic finish but not so far off that it does not give homage to the Foreigner original. From the moment MC coos her first word I knew this was bringing something back, way back. Her vocals are crisp and smooth. Each lyric seems to be done with such ease making this an effortless show of the control and emotion driven style of the Mariah we all know. You are taken on a ride of true sentiment giving the song a new life as if Mariah herself lived the words. A choir comes in to join Mimi for the climax and this is where she kicks it up to the next level. Full of the melisma and power that made her the icon she is today. She hits you with big vocals and upper register melodies to compliment the immense show of emotion as the song comes to a close. This is a song that reminds the listener a true vocalist still does exist. In a world of manufactured, plastic wrapped pop tartlets that are overly promoted it is refreshing to hear true raw talent. Our Mimi gives us what we want and rarely here. A diva not by promotion or self entitlement but because her voice is one of a kind and a true instrument. I am eagerly waiting to see what else she has in store for us in her coming album. If the rest of Memoirs is like her lead singles she is set to break more records. - Christopher Benavidez, Dallas, TX

Mariah has once again captured the very essence of a song that brings hope and romance to one who might lack hope and romance in their lives. Her voice lends a soft hopeful tone that allows the song to avoid the sound of a remake and call it her own. Mariah, I smell #19. - Gabriel Valles, El Paso, TX

Mariah elegantly captivates the soulful essence in this song beginning with the heavenly angelic piano intro to the stirring key change where she displays the powerful climax drenched in notes only one can dream of to leave each listener struck in awe at the inspiration and uplifting of the recreated masterpiece that only Mariah Carey can deliver. It is truly a privilege to be able to grasp musical and artistic perfection, and we are lucky to live in her presence. - Jadd, Houston, TX

She is amazing. Best song I have heard this year! I fell in love with her all over again. I felt the emotion and it brought me to tears. She sang from her heart. I'm so impressed. And that is why she is the best! - Iye, Houston, TX

With "I Want To Know What Love Is" Mariah has returned in full force to her brilliant ballad sensibilities. She pulls out all the tricks and they work greatly! A little 90's reverb ala Mariah's debut? Check. Gospel choir? Check. Great ad libs? Check, check, check. This one is a true fan-pleaser and should send Memoirs rocketing to #1! Bravo. - Jonnathan Molina, Killeen, TX

I am just thrilled that she is doing a remake of this song. So far so good. I think it's perfect in every way! - Kristina Miniet, Norfolk, VA

I absolutely LOVE Mariah's new single, "I Want To Know What Love Is." It is a gorgeous rendition on the hit song. I am highly anticipating her new album... I just can't bear to wait. I love Mariah, I always have, and to me... her star has never shined brighter than now. - Chris Luethy - Janesville, WI
