Mariah Carey Recording With Rick Ross
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 25-Apr-2012, 8:15AM EDT
Mariah Carey has been pictured recording in the studio with Rick Ross.

The 42-year-old is currently recording tracks for her forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. So far, Mariah has been snapped in the studio with her longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri, B. Cox and several other rappers.

Posting the photo of them on his Twitter page, Ross wrote: "Rozay and MiMi."

It is not known if the tracks they are recording will feature on Mariah's record or The Bawse's forthcoming God Forgives, I Don't.

Whatever Rozay and MiMi are cooking up, it'll no doubt be anything short of amazing!

Mariah On New Album & Balancing Kids With Music
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 05-Dec-2011, 9:14PM EST
Seven months after giving birth to twins, Mariah Carey sat down with Touré to discuss life after children and the status of her as-yet-untitled 14th album. Taking multi-tasking to the next, prenatal level, Carey discussed one song she wrote while pregnant. "I was in so much pain. I was laying on this bed and we had a studio set up in the room," Carey said. "I want to get back in and get going. It's just right now, the music business goes on this hiatus and you have to get back in there in January." Translation: don't expect any more maternity leave from the singer in 2012.

"I have done one song that is like, I was pregnant when I was writing it. I was in so much pain. I was laying on, like, this bed and we had a studio set up in the room, and JD was there, and Randy Jackson was playing bass live, and it was just this whole moment and I love it a lot! I love it a lot! So I want to get back in and get going. It's just, right now everybody's- the music business, it's like, it goes on this, like, hiatus and then you gotta get back in there in January. But, this year been, having my babies and living my life. But I never let go of music and I think that's why my kids respond to music so much."

Nick Talks About a New Mariah Album
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 07-Jun-2011, 2:42PM EDT
Perez Hilton recently sat down with Nick Cannon and in this previously unseen footage below, Mariah's husband tells him all about Mariah's new album!

Perez Hilton: You said that she's working on or she's been working on new music.
Nick Cannon: She is she's -

PH: And that you said it's going to be out before the end of the year.
NC: I said, I think there will be a record out before the end of the year. I don't know the album is going to be -
PH: Is that still on track to happen?
NC: Yeah, it should happen.

PH: And whats it going to sound like? Are you giving us a taste, a tease -
NC: Like I told you on the radio, if she -
PH: You got to listen to the radio because I get a Mariah scoop from him as much as possible.
NC: Yeah, she's very inspired by her early work.

PH: Which I think is very amazing.
NC: She's been listening to her first two albums quite a bit and -
PH: Those first two albums. Actually the third album was amazing too. Actually the fourth album. Those first four albums.
NC: And that's what she's been listening to.

PH: Actually even up until the fifth one which had "Honey" on it. You see I know my Mariah Carey!
NC: I think it's going to be good though. I think she - you know because she's ready to bring music back to the game and I think that's her job so she's excited about being able to be musical and bring the voice back.
PH: Well, I'm so excited about that. And like I think that radio could really be recep — if she hits the right lane, radio could be receptive because I think we might be at a point where we're danced out.
NC: Done with the dance.

PH: But you could still have pop that's dancy like "Someday."(Perez sings "Someday")
NC: That's my favorite song. I love that one.
PH: I love that song too.
NC: She does not. She doesn't.

PH: No?
NC: She thinks I'm making fun of her every time I sing it.
PH: No, I love that song.
NC: I was like that was, that video was the video when I fell in love with Mariah Carey.
PH: She doesn't love that song?

Tony Bennett's New Duets CD Out Sept. 20
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 25-Mar-2011, 9:48AM EDT
In Celebration of Tony Bennett's 85th Birthday
TONY BENNETT: DUETS II CD TO BE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 20TH ON RPM/COLUMBIA RECORDS

American icon Tony Bennett will celebrate his 85th birthday this year with a new CD, "Tony Bennett: Duets II," which will be released on September 20th on RPM/Columbia Records. Bennett has already begun the live recording process with several artists during Grammy week in February at LA's famed Capitol Studios. Subsequent sessions are planned for this Spring in New York, Nashville and Italy. "Duets II," produced by Phil Ramone follows up "Tony Bennett Duets: An American Classic" CD, the 2006 Grammy winning best selling CD which became Bennett's best selling recording to date.

Alone Tony Bennett is legendary. In partnership with another singer, he's extraordinary. A sterling all-star roster will join Tony in the studio including Mariah Carey, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. Some of country's biggest names will also join the round-up including Faith Hill, Willie Nelson and Carrie Underwood. From the international pantheon: angel-voiced tenor Andrea Bocelli from Italy and Latino singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz from Spain. Josh Groban and John Mayer are also slated to collaborate with Bennett. Michael Buble and k.d. lang who were both featured on the original "Duets" CD will return for "Duets II." All artists will record their duets live in the studio with Bennett.

"I love the Great American songbook and have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to introduce many of these songs to the public...It is a thrill to perform them once again with artists that I admire to create new interpretations of the music I love so much," says Bennett.

The US and international recording sessions for "Duets II" are being filmed by Academy award winning cinematographer Dion Beebe ("Chicago," "Memoirs Of A Geisha," "Collateral") and will be released as a documentary in conjunction with the new CD project, providing an in depth study of Bennett's creative and artistic process.

Mariah, Nicki Minaj to Collaborate Anew?
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 23-Mar-2011, 4:34PM EDT
X-Factor judges L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell were live on On Air with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS 102.7FM in Los Angeles this morning to promote their upcoming auditions for the show.

In the interview, Ryan asked L.A. Reid to confirm the rumors about Nicki Minaj being one of the judges on the much-hyped-lately reality TV singing competition that's premiering on FOX in the Fall. Ryan's source apparently has seen Nicki Minaj in L.A.'s office recently.

L.A. has denied the rumors and said: "Nicki Minaj in my office? She just made a record with Rihanna. Had her do another record with Mariah, had nothing to do with X-Factor." Listen to an audio clip below.

This will be Mariah and Nicki's second time to work together if this project materializes. As we all know, Mariah and Nicki previously collaborated on the remix version of "Up Out My Face" in early 2010.

Update: New "Mariah Carey" BMI-Registered Songs
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 22-Feb-2011, 5:04PM EST
We received a confirmation that Mariah is NOT, in any way, affiliated with the songs registered on BMI by a certain William Edmund Young. Since this is the case, we have decided to remove our earlier posts to avoid further confusion.

One may wonder how a reputable entity as BMI can get infiltrated by unscrupulous people wanting the dire attention, but it can happen. It happened. We learned from BMI's AVP of Corporate Communications Hanna Pantle, "Anyone can join BMI, it's free. After you join you can register your works." A certain William Edmund Young took advantage of the free membership and registered many songs including 9 (to date) bearing the name Mariah Carey as a co-writer. One registered song even has the title "Save The Day," a confirmed title of a Mariah-Jermaine Dupri collaborated charity song. According to Hanna, "we are investigating this and hope to have some news later this week."

Meanwhile, some real and exciting news today from Mariah herself on Twitter! "I start writing for my new album this week-but its just the beginning..: )"

The only two releases of note this week are Mariah Carey's The Ballads, a best-of on Sony Legacy and Frank Sinatra's Seduction: Sinatra Sings of Love on WMG's Rhino label, each looking at about 20k, which would place them solidly in the Top 20, based on last week's results.

All Music Reviews The Ballads
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009, 2:49AM EST
Album Review: The Ballads
By Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music

In 1998, it would have been a cheap joke to say that Mariah Carey had no other kind of hits than ballads, but in the ensuing decade she steadily remade herself into an R&B diva, obscuring if not quite erasing the well-mannered adult contemporary singer of the '90s.

The 2009 compilation The Ballads -- released just before Valentines Day 2009 -- attempts to turn back the clock by focusing just on those AC tunes -- 18 of them, in fact, including such mammoth hits as "Hero," "One Sweet Day," "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "I'll Be There," "I Still Believe," "Dreamlover," and "Always Be My Baby." Of course, this concentration on middle of the road ballads is a side effect of label affiliation: The Ballads is a product of Sony, who had Mariah during the '90s, before the club R&B overshadowed these office-friendly hits, so it's easier for them to cobble together a comp of Carey at her most sentimental. And that's what The Ballads is: nothing but big love songs sung in a big voice.

For fans who have missed this side of Mariah in the 2000s, this is a welcome reminder of what they used to love.

Sony Promo for The Ballads: Sing with the Diva
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 19-Dec-2008, 1:23PM EST
As a promotion for Elvis Presley Christmas Duets album, Sony BMG Music Entertainment has created a Web site that allows you to record "Blue Christmas" as a duet with Presley, singing McBride's part from the album.

The site provides a phone number and access code so you can belt out your lines over the phone. If you're pleased with the recording, you can send it in a Christmas ecard.

The promotion has been successful enough that Sony plans a similar one for Mariah Carey's upcoming release The Ballads for Valentine's Day. Given Carey's vocal range, it could take some serious chops to keep up. "Dreamlover" anyone?

Planned U.S. Promo for The Ballads
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 11-Dec-2008, 4:50PM EST
Eighteen of Mariah Carey's best-known ballads have been compiled for an album appropriately titled The Ballads. Due Jan. 20 via Columbia/Legacy, the project features such hits as "Hero," "One Sweet Day," "Vision of Love," "Always Be My Baby" and "Dreamlover."

Also included are Carey duets with Luther Vandross ("Endless Love") and Whitney Houston ("When You Believe"). Carey is expected to play an intimate show during street week, with details to be announced, and will likely be the subject of a radio special to coincide with Valentine's Day.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot for Carey to play select shows in Los Angeles and New York next May.

Five new Mariah Carey songs have recently been registered with the music copyright holding agency, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). The BMI repertoire database lists both Mariah Carey and William Edmund Young as songwriters in all five songs; with Mary J. Blige, Usher, MVP Sowestbred, and Tupac Shakur (a sampling perhaps) each credited in at least one song.

"I Don't Wanna Stop Loving You"
Songwriters: Mariah Carey, Usher Raymond, William Edmund Young

"I Got A Man"
Songwriters: Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, William Edmund Young

"Love Like This"
Songwriters: Mariah Carey, William Edmund Young

"Man Of The Hour"
Songwriters: Mariah Carey, MVP Sowestbred, William Edmund Young

"This Is For Real"
Songwriters: Mariah Carey, Tupac Shakur, William Edmund Young

We currently don't have much information about William Edmund Young other than he is affiliated with BMI with over 100 songs under his belt. He has worked on songs, either as a solo artist or a co-writer with Jermaine Dupri, Jay-Z, Usher, Bow Wow, Lil Wayne, etc.

William Edmund Young is also listed as a co-writer on "Save The Day," a charity song inspired by the Points of Light Institute, an organization which encourages volunteerism and service among Americans. The song, whose title was first revealed by Jermaine on Twitter, will hope to gather and involve some of the biggest performers in music.

Mariah Carey Enlists Randy Jackson For New Album
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 30-Jun-2006, 5:35PM EDT
When it comes to entertainers, there are very few who can compare or compete with the quality of Mariah Carey's back catalog.

One of the world's highest selling and most critically acclaimed artists, recent months have seen reports of a new album from the singer that many are hoping will live up to the standard of the her earlier material.

Now it has been confirmed that she has summoned world renowned producer Randy Jackson to work on the project, just days after her very telling interview with Barbara Walters surfaced here.

Hours ago, long time creator James Wright took the social networking site Twitter to reveal:

"Trying to sleep but can’t grrrrr Was in the studios late with @YO_RANDYJACKSON working on some @MariahCarey tracks."

Of course, this news came as music to the ears of many Carey supporters.

For, Jackson and Wright are responsible for many of her oft celebrated numbers, including "Fly Like A Bird" and "I Wish You Knew."

With Da Brat and Jermaine Dupri also confirmed as two of the album's other contributors, here's to hoping James Posyner – responsible for the song "Mine Again"- jumps on board Carey's creative train in coming weeks, since she seems to be going for a more ballad driven sound this time around.

Eclectic DJ and producer Harry "Choo Choo" Romero confirmed via Twitter that he is working with Mariah on her next record: "Worked on demos for 50cent today with @djjosenunez and also some new trax for dizzie rascal. Mariah Carey is next. Let's go!!

Further, he said: "Sushi lunch with the mrs. Back to the studio. Mariah got my wheels turning."

When asked directly by a fan if the track(s) would be for Mariah's next album, Romero answered "yes." When further asked if the work was for the album itself or for remixes, Romero said it was for the "official album."

Romero is a house DJ/producer. He is linked with the label Subliminal with Erick Morillo and Jose Nunez, with whom he also produced and remixed several tracks, as "Constipated Monkeys," "The Dronez" or "Ministers De La Funk."

In 2011, Trey Lorenz was featured on one of Romero's tracks called "Is This Time Goodbye? (I Gotta Move On)".
