Mariah Shares Her 'Merry Christmas II You' Cookie Recipe
Posted by Lynn on Sunday, 31-Oct-2010, 12:11PM EDT
This week, Mariah Carey will be releasing her brand new holiday album, 'Merry Christmas II You.' The singer is celebrating the spirit of the upcoming season with the recent premiere of her catchy single 'Oh Santa!', but she's also been getting festive in the kitchen. Carey has whipped up a special Christmas cookie recipe, which PopEater is exclusively debuting.
Come Nov. 2, you'll be able to listen to the full 'Merry Christmas II You' album – which features a new recording of the smash hit 'All I Want for Christmas Is You,' as well as classic holiday songs – as you bake. Find out how to make Carey's Christmas cookies.
Mariah Carey's 'Merry Christmas II You' Cookies
Serves 4 dozen
Ingredients: 1 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon of lemon zest 1 tablespoon milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions: Cream butter, gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, milk, vanilla and lemon zest. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture. Chill for easy handling. Roll out dough to 1/8" thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut dough into festive holiday shapes with floured cookie cutters. Bake on a cookie sheet in a preheated 350-degree (Fahrenheit) oven for 10 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool. Decorate with icing and green and red sprinkles.
Place cookies on a plate beside the Christmas tree with a tall glass of milk for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve!
Update: MDJ's Street Promotion, Idea Exchange
Posted by Lynn on Sunday, 31-Oct-2010, 4:00AM EDT
Two days to go until the release of Merry Christmas II You! Gather your friends and help promote Mariah's new Holiday album. Below are flyers/street posters that you can use. You can put them up in conspicuous areas, place on windshields, pass around in your school/community, etc.
MDJ Idea Exchange MariahDailyJournal thought it would be nice to list down all the bright ideas/suggestions you might have to street-promote Merry Christmas II You. Get creative and join in the exchange of ideas. We will be posting your valuable and helpful tips here so that others may pick up, add their own and implement.
Thanks to everyone who shared their amazing ideas and plans to help promote Merry Christmas II You.
Danny (Jamesburg, NJ): "I was thinking what better way to get the word out about Merry Christmas II You on Halloween night by telling all the strangers who come to your door for candy! Just print out small little papers that say 'Mariah's 2nd Christmas Album Merry Christmas II You In Stores November 2nd' and give it out with each piece of candy!"
Varune (Mississauga, Canada): "I live close to Square One Shopping Centre, a huge mall where there are thousands of people going in everyday and will be handing out flyers. At my workplace, I will stick some flyers in the mail room. People see it every time they pick up their mail for the full season. I will also stick it on the front of my mailbox. At least 300 people or more will see it."
Michael (Boston, MA): "November 2nd is ELECTION day! Millions of people will be going to the polls. Why not stand out or around polling locations with flyers and man made signs. People will have Christmas on their mind and believe me when they leave that polling place, they will remember the person holding a Mariah Carey sign, more than who they just voted for. It is so out of place and creative. So for those that are die hard fans of Mariah Carey, make a sign, stand outside your polling place for 20 minutes or more, VOTE, then be on your way."
Marco (Los Angeles, CA): "There is a big event in West Hollywood called 'Halloween Carnival' every year on Halloween night. Many people from all walks of life and thousands of tourists from all over the world are there. It would be great if lambs got together and dressed up for Halloween as lambs passing out flyers with Merry Christmas II You. Even someone dressed as Mariah Carey pregnant would bring so much attention with all the lambs following behind her, I'm sure the media that covers this event would broadcast this on TV and that would be great promotion."
Dioni (Bronx, NY): Dioni has started promoting Merry Christmas II You by handing out flyers last Thursday in the Bronx!
Josue (San Diego, CA): "This year I am handing out Halloween pencils attached with a mini flyer for Merry Christmas II You."
Ruben (El Paso, TX): "I'm going to visit public restrooms around my city and tape posters on the doors, so when people are doing their business, they will see it and since many people like to read when doing their business, they will get interested in the CD. Sounds funny, but will work. LOL."
Varian (Gallup, NM): "I just saw the street promo of how other lambs will promote the new album. I work at a hotel as a front desk clerk and thought, hmm what a way to hand out flyers after checking the guests in when giving them their reciepts lol. Get them in the mood for the holiday spirit hehe. I will also post them up at the local chapter houses around my area too."
Sam (Melbourne, Australia): "Hi, I manage one of Australia's leading fashion chains and thought I could stick some posters in the change rooms and also put a flyer in every single person's bag when they purchase items. I also work 2 doors down from a massive music shop which can be very convenient for customers to go 2 doors down and purchase the album. Another idea is to stick flyers on street light poles which is very eye catchy for drivers whether driving or stopped on a red light. Another idea is to stick a little flyer on one of the car windows (in a safe spot). That way no matter where you drive you will be promoting!"
Jess (Sydney, Australia): "Street promotion idea: Best way to get message out to the most people - a BUMPER STICKER! Stick on back of car with tape and you're done!"
Alicia (Paris, France): "I'm a huge fan of Mariah in France for a long long long time now. I've already organized dinner and special night at my house with fans from another website to promote her last album, trying to do something to increase the sell in France. I think I'm going to CHAMPS ELYSEES every weekend to distribute flyers. If anyone in France want to join me, contact me via e-mail at email@example.com. I will be there for the first illuminating day of the Champs Elysees where there is thousand and thousand people."
Renson (Taguig City, Philippines): "I'll make my own personalized T-shirt at least 5 set, different color and styles so I'll wear it everyday till the released date of the album with print: Front: Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas II You in stores this November. Back: Grab a copy and you will have a Merrier Christmas."
Christian (Toronto, Canada): "ATTENTION ALL MARIAH FANS IN TORONTO, CANADA! What better way to promote a Christmas album than to give out flyers during the 2010 Santa Claus Parade! This year's parade will be on November 21st. I thought that participants could stand right outside the subways (anybody who lives in Toronto would know that EVERYBODY uses the subway to get to the parade) and hand out flyers! People would already be in the Christmas spirit, and I'm sure it won't be too difficult to find a music shop in downtown Toronto! We could attach mini flyers to a candy cane, so that people wouldn't be turned off."
We would love to see your Merry Christmas II You street promotion in action. Be sure to take pictures and send them to us!
Audio: Mariah Interviews with Fox All Access
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 30-Oct-2010, 10:32AM EDT
Here's an audio of Mariah's interview with Fox All Access on Friday, October 29th.
Mariah Carey: "This Merry Christmas II You is kind of like the sequel to my first album which was called Merry Christmas, my first Christmas album, and it's sort of like every year, every Christmas, I listen to it and I loved certain songs but some of them I'm always like, 'Ugh, I need to fast forward this, I hate that vocal performance,' whatever. So I decided to do this album and I was really inspired... I worked with Randy Jackson, first of all, which is always fun and we've been working together for years. He's actually playing bass on this album and you can hear his voice on 'Here Comes Santa Claus' which is pretty funny. He's singing towards the night before Christmas. The people would never believe that it's him. And the overall album, you know, there are the spiritual songs, there are the festive songs, there's an element of like big orchestral music which I was really inspired by like Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, all those Christmas classics that you just still love the original version and nobody really can come close to them. And so I just wanted to do my version of an album that went from, like I said, very almost spiritual moments to very just fun, cute, festive songs and that's the whole thing. And that was my goal. But doing this album at this time in my life was definitely something that was a perfect fit like I can't imagine working on a regular album right now. It would never have worked.
Obviously, I'm very thankful for this moment. And thankful that people have been really... ever since Nick and I made our announcement I guess it was yesterday, it seems like a long time ago but I've been up doing two videos in the interim and all that but people have been very warm and congratulatory. We didn't even really want to talk about this yet but I was just, I'm out here in the public eye, I really didn't have a choice so I'm just thankful that I can go through this time and feel a lot of warmth and restored my faith in people so I'm just really grateful for everything that's going on for me personally and it is nice to be working, putting out an album like this at this time."
Mariah Songs on Glee?
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 30-Oct-2010, 9:32AM EDT
Mariah Carey is giving birth in more ways than one.
The music superstar's just-confirmed pregnancy is getting lots of attention, but her immediate focus is on Tuesday's (Nov. 2) unveiling of her second holiday CD, "Merry Christmas II You."
For the rest of the year, she'll be making the media rounds to promote it, and she admits she's already feeling the effects of tackling such a schedule in her current condition.
"That's the thing," the friendly Carey tells Zap2it. "I was like, 'Interviews? Today?' I worked so late last night, it was to the point where I got home and didn't even have the strength to take my makeup off.
"One perk was that I woke up today still looking good! I mean, even my hair. I had this sort of flip thing going on. I slept with a well-positioned neck pillow, and when I woke up, my flip was still good."
"Merry Christmas II You" offers many seasonal standards, including an "Extra Festive" update of Carey's own classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You." She says hearing that song "keep coming back always makes me so overwhelmed. It really, really makes me happy. A lot of people don't realize that I also co-wrote it [with Walter Afanasieff].
"I was working up to the last day they made me hand in the album, and there was one time when it was a 24-hour marathon. I wasn't telling anybody I was pregnant yet, and I knew I was in pain -- but I was like, 'Whatever I have to do to get this done.'
"I knew I had to get 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' done," Carey adds, "and at the last minute, [composer-arranger] Marc Shaiman saved the day. People don't do these big orchestral sessions that much anymore."
As for possible baby names? Carey reports she and her "America's Got Talent"-host husband, Nick Cannon, began discussing those "a long time ago. We're just waiting to see. I was doing two videos yesterday, and I didn't even watch the interview (on NBC's "Today," in which Carey revealed her baby news). I'll look at that on a plane, maybe."
Carey envisions spending much of the holiday season in New York, with an itinerary that includes a performance on the annual NBC special "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" Tuesday, Nov. 30. Another television consideration for her is one that many top artists have these days ... the possible use of her catalog on the FOX series "Glee."
"I believe there have been some discussions about a potential melding there," Carey says, "and I would love to explore that. I'm not a rabid watcher [of the show], but that's only because of my schedule. Truth is, I get the DVDs of some of my favorite shows, then just end up watching those all the time."

"I am always eager to push my creativity into new directions," said Mariah Carey. "After meeting Mindy Grossman, I jumped at the opportunity to develop my own collection of shoes and baubles, and to enhance my fragrance offering."
"We are thrilled to launch on HSN a lifestyle brand that captures Mariah's creative sensibility as well as the different facets of her life," said Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSN, Inc. Mariah Carey Designs for HSN
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 29-Oct-2010, 10:45AM EDT
Mariah Carey is having more than a baby – she's also unveiling a lifestyle line.
After weeks of speculation, Carey confirmed on Thursday that she and her husband, Nick Cannon, are expecting their first child. But before her spring due date, Carey will hatch her first lifestyle collection featuring jewelry, footwear and fragrance on HSN on Nov. 29.
Mariah's Lifestyle Collection Set for HSN
The move makes Carey the newest addition to the celebrity designer circuit, but unlike many of her contemporaries, she isn't taking the traditional retail route. Instead, she's going straight to the consumer, and is sticking to a genre she is comfortable with – TV, as well as the Internet.
In an exclusive interview, Carey said she is always eager to push her creativity into new directions, and after meeting HSN Inc. chief executive officer Mindy Grossman, she jumped at the opportunity to develop her own collection of shoes and baubles, and enhance her fragrance offering.
Carey said she developed a more significant interest in jewelry through her friend Joan Boyce, one of the designers in HSN's lineup.
"I never even used to wear jewelry," the singer said. "I used to wear baby earrings, tiny things. When I started to get into jewelry a little more, Joan was working with HSN, and that's how I met Mindy Grossman."
Two weeks later, Grossman flew to Los Angeles to meet with Carey, and the two hit it off immediately, spending hours at the singer's house and, more specifically, in her shoe closet. By the end of the day, the duo concluded that the time was ripe for Carey to extend her profile into a lifestyle brand.
"She is personable, funny and smart and obviously creative and talented, and we just talked about what she is passionate about – shoes, jewelry, fragrance and her music," Grossman said. "I said, 'Why can't we do it all?' She is magnetic, and I think this has the opportunity not just to appeal to our existing customer base, but also a lot of new customers."
Carey is arguably the biggest star on HSN's roster, with a global reach and recognition like few of her contemporaries on the network, which include notables like Iman, Twiggy, Wolfgang Puck, Randolph Duke, Rebecca Moses and Loulou de la Falaise.
Since launching her career in 1990, Carey has become the world's most successful female recording artist, selling more than 200 million albums; she has tried her hand at acting, and while her star turn in "Glitter" was widely panned, she more recently drew critical acclaim for her role as a social worker in "Precious."
In 2007, she launched her first fragrance with Elizabeth Arden, and the process inspired her to think about extending her creative reach.
"From the inception of working with Elizabeth Arden, I wanted the fragrances to represent what I really like," she said. "It really opened my eyes and opened the doors for me in terms of starting to think about going into other creative ventures."
The lifestyle collection is Mariah, all the way, with sparkling, pavé-set "initial" pendants, butterfly earrings, fur-trimmed suede boots and quilted nylon boots wrapped in chains. The shoes will be priced from about $69.90 to $199.90, while the jewelry will be available from $39.99 to $199.95. Carey will also offer a new version of her Luscious Pink fragrance, and 25 $275 bottles of her Luscious Pink Deluxe Edition fragrance will feature a Swarovski Elements-encrusted butterfly with a personal note from the singer.
Carey admitted she likes to channel surf and often finds herself stopping on HSN, particularly when her friend Boyce is on. "It's a classic, you have to keep it on," she said. "I do a very good impression of her."
The practice will come in handy on Nov. 29, though Carey said she had no preshow jitters despite this being her first time selling on TV. "I think it's just about being yourself, explaining the different products and enjoying yourself," said Carey. "If I take it so seriously, and say, 'Oh my god, It's a Shakespearean moment,' it's not going to be fun. I am looking at it as something fun. This is an extracurricular activity for me and I am looking forward to it. It's another creative outlet for me."
She talks about her shoe and jewelry designs like a pro – with the added experience of having worn hundreds of designer shoes in her two-decade career. Her shoe closet is filled with styles from Manolo Blahnik to Jimmy Choo, and she particularly loves Yves Saint Laurent heels. She said people compliment her on her shoe closet all the time.
"They say, 'I love your shoe closet. I saw it in Architectural Digest, on 'Cribs.' I saw it on Oprah or Barbara Walters," she said.
The songstress prefers platform heels over flats. "Most people are comfortable in flats, and I always say my foot is naturally made to be in high heels.
"When I don't have a platform, we could have a traumatic moment, like a semi-spill on stage, which nobody wants," Carey added. "A platform shoe grounds you a little more. I try to make my designs more practical as well as pretty. One of the things I thought about was how I could do affordable, really nice, comfortable shoes that are still flattering to the leg."
Carey is also developing a signature for her jewelry, and the butterfly, her favorite motif, plays a prominent feature. Among her favorites is the platinum and pink diamond engagement ring Cannon designed for her and a butterfly ring Van Cleef & Arpels gave her a decade ago.
She also has a penchant for vintage jewelry. "It always seems that if you have an amazing vintage Cartier bracelet or a signed Tiffany piece, you can't go wrong," she said. "You just can't do the same type of filigree work anymore. A lot of that inspired my own pieces. They have a modern twist, but that's my natural inclination."
Carey said she could see the line expand into new areas for her second HSN moment next year. She didn't rule out doing an apparel line in the future. "I am definitely looking forward to a long relationship with HSN," she said.
She was hard-pressed to narrow down her list of her favorite designers, though a few names made the cut. "I love Karl Lagerfeld as a person and as a designer, and I have some vintage Chanel suits that are gorgeous," she said. "I am not a big bag person, but if I do carry one, you know that I love it. I have a lot of Chanel bags, including one that I saved from years ago. It is wooden and looks a little bit like a lunch box. I also have a lot of Judith Leiber."
Among her favorite dresses, she cited the Nile Cmylo gown she wore at her 2008 wedding; the Dolce & Gabbana number she sported in her video for "Honey," and a red gown she wore to the 2006 MTV Movie Awards.
Like most celebrities, Carey has had her share of "fashion don't" moments, which she won't point to right now. "If I highlight those moments, you will feature them, darling," she said.
That said, Carey isn't fearful of the fashion police. Far from it, she said. "You get photographed everywhere," she said. "You look at it one day, and it's gone the next, or they can dwell on it for a week. Within a couple of days, there is somebody else doing something in the world that is a little more interesting than a bad outfit."
Grossman declined to give projections for the line, but said "it is projected to be very significant or we wouldn't have done it on such an important day as Cyber Monday."
HSN will support the launch in multiple ways. The network will sell Carey's new CD, "Merry Christmas II You," which is being released by Island Def Jam Music Group on Tuesday, and is also playing her first single from it, "Oh Santa," in its holiday promo.
Carey is particularly proud of her new work. "I was really inspired by Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby, and all the classic Christmas music that was just timeless," she said of the project. "I wanted it to be festive-meets-timeless. It's everything from a more soulful moment to a duet I did with my mother, who is an opera singer. It was very interesting and different, and for me that is a really nice jewel of the album."
As for her budding fashion career, Carey already comes with an accessory that is quite common in fashion circles – the diva moniker. "One of the things people need to do is look up the actual definition of diva," she said. "The first thing is a talented female vocalist. That's what I like it to be. The second is a difficult female. Whatever. Everybody is a diva these days, and most people are trying to get to that status, so, I am a diva if that makes people happy. I think, mainly, that I try to be a good person above that."

Mariah Confirms: "Yes, We Are Pregnant, This Is True!"
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 28-Oct-2010, 9:52AM EDT
In an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood host Billy Bush, Mariah Carey confirms, "yes we are pregnant, this is true!"
Carey told Bush -- in a segment which aired on TODAY Thursday morning -- that it's been a struggle to keep the news private. "It's been a long journey, but it's been tough because I've been trying to have ... to hold onto a shred of privacy. And that was not easy."
In the spirit of some privacy, Carey, who shared the news with Bush from her home in Tribeca, didn't divulge how far along she is. "It's still early, I'm expecting in the spring, I'll say that. I don't want to give too much of like, specific outlines."
Carey chose to share the happy news now because her new album, "Merry Christmas 2 U" drops next week. Her husband Nick Cannon, who was also on hand for the interview, describes the journey as an emotional one.
"Uh, it's absolutely emotional, but first, so many reasons I mean obviously the greatest gift on earth is a child," Cannon said. "But ... you know how much we have been through, you know."
Cannon is referring to something that's not been made public until now, that Carey suffered a miscarriage.
Two years ago, shortly after the couple's secret wedding, Carey and Cannon were in Monte Carlo for the World Music Awards when Carey took a pregnancy test, and it turned out to be positive. "Only one person knew about this and we were like, um, 'let's not tell anybody else,'" Carey said.
A little more than a month later, she miscarried. "It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in," Carey said. Cannon added, "And that's what I said, like her strength would literally be during the day so festive and smiling obviously for cameras and spending time with everyone and you know, literally that night crying herself to sleep."
Bush added on TODAY that the couple conceived naturally, and that they would not be finding out whether the baby was a boy or a girl before its birth. For more details, tune in to "Access Hollywood" Thursday.

Danny from Jamesburg, New Jersey thought of an excellent idea to promote the album. His plan? "I was thinking what better way to get the word out about Merry Christmas II You on Halloween night by telling all the strangers who come to your door for candy! Just print out small little papers that say 'Mariah's 2nd Christmas Album Merry Christmas II You In Stores November 2nd' and give it out with each piece of candy!"
Varune from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada has his marvellous plans set: "I live close to Square One Shopping Centre, a huge mall where there are thousands of people going in everyday and will be handing out flyers. At my workplace, I will stick some flyers in the mail room. People see it every time they pick up their mail for the full season. I will also stick it on the front of my mailbox. At least 300 people or more will see it."
We would love to see your Merry Christmas II You street promotion in action. Be sure to take pictures and send them to us!

Mariah: "Boy or Girl, I Really Will Be Happy Either Way"
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 28-Oct-2010, 2:28AM EDT
All these stories about Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon having a boy—they are concocted.
Mariah sent me an email last night that I will share with you about the baby's gender.
She wrote: "We don't know yet - I promise! I really will be happy either way!"
Mariah and Nick have a three part sit down with Billy Bush on "Access Hollywood" starting tonight. This morning, Billy promo's the announcement on the Today show.
Mariah will be home in bed, feet up, watching the show. Or maybe, fast asleep, and will watch the playback later today.
Either way, that's the story. Baby coming in early spring. Album out on Tuesday.
And not one of the stories posted about all this was true or factual in any way.
Here's Billy Bush on last night's Access Hollywood announcing the kick-off of his exclusive interview with Mariah that's airing tonight on NBC.

The Real Mariah Carey
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 28-Oct-2010, 12:48AM EDT
Liz Smith had some nice words to say about Mariah in her WowOWow column:
I always like to pass on "nice" gossip. Hmm... maybe that's why the New York Post fired me! Anyway, I was chatting with a person who deals with Mariah Carey on a regular basis. Here's the dish: "She's totally real. What you see is what you get. She isn't one way onstage or on the red carpet and different when you are with her privately. She has a great sense of humor, especially about herself and her image. She's not a phony. I like her a lot!"
That's exactly the kind of high praise I've heard from friends of Mariah, such as director Lee Daniels. And whenever I've spoken with her or met her, Mariah's sense of humor and "realness" are what always impress me. And she has great skin, too.
NOTE: As you may remember, we first learned about Mariah and mom Patricia's duet on a Christmas album from Mariah's interview with Liz Smith in October 2009.
Mariah Not on Today Show Tomorrow?
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 27-Oct-2010, 8:45PM EDT
Everyone has everything wrong.
Mariah does not know the sex of the baby. Yes, it's a boy or a girl. But all the announcements you've read are wrong.
Tomorrow morning the intrepid Billy Bush will appear as a guest on the Today show and deliver the news that Ms. Carey is with child. (This will not be a colossal headline at this point, but good stuff.) Mariah, please tell Perez Hilton, will not be on the Today show.
Billy be promoting a three parter that starts tomorrow night on "Access Hollywood." Mariah and husband Nick Cannon will discuss the whole deal with Billy. The interview was taped yesterday.
When is Mariah due? "In the spring" is all she's saying. Does that mean March? Maybe. So she's just now maybe four and a half months pregnant.
And I am told by the Inner Circle that all this stuff you're reading about IVF and invitro and fertility stuff is simply made up and supposition. "It's no true," says a good source.
So Hello, Yahoo News, Google News, Bing and whatever. Let's calm down. The internet is now flooded with junk on this subject.
And Mariah's rep, Cindi Berger? That voice mail is full.
Exclusive Mariah Interview on Access Hollywood Nov. 1
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 27-Oct-2010, 2:59PM EDT
Mariah Carey's long standing silence on her pregnancy may be coming to an end.
Last night, "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush was spotted coming from Carey's Tribeca building. The word is that "Access" has secured the big Carey interview as part of her promotion for her new Christmas album.
And lo and behold, the story is also that Mariah has finally made a formal announcement about what is more evident than the Empire State Building. She's five or six months pregnant with a bundle of joy.
Calls to Mariah's rep were not returned. But they may be out, shopping for the shower!
Mariah has resisted speaking up so far because she said she was "superstitious"–s she told this column a few weeks ago, and it was reproduced everywhere. But it's going to be hard to continue in that direction, and I guess she knows it.
The "Access" interview should run by Monday. Next Tuesday is the release date for "Merry Xmas II You." And maybe January is the release date for the baby. Congrats to Mariah and Nick Cannon, officially!

Lyrics: New Songs on Merry Christmas II You
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 26-Oct-2010, 3:52AM EDT
The Merry Christmas II You album booklet, unfortunately, does not include the lyric sheets so we took the initiative to transcribe the four brand-new songs from the album: "Oh Santa!," "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again," "When Christmas Comes," and "One Child." If you find any errors, please let us know.
OH SANTA! (Written by Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri & Bryan-Michael Cox) Lyrics previously posted here.
CHRISTMAS TIME IS IN THE AIR AGAIN (Written by Mariah Carey and Marc Shaiman)
Christmas time is in the air again Christmas chimes reminding me of When we fell like the snow So deep in love High above us the evergreens Sparkle with lights and feel the breeze As we made future Christmas memories.
Christmas shoppers glance at us and smile 'Cause the mistletoe is occupied And the dream is to share This Christmas cheer with you all year And not wait till the morning When Christmas time is in the air again.
Mean Mr. Grinch simply can't resist Warming up when he looks our way Even Old Scrooge makes a Christmas wish For a harmony to hold Christmas day
And to feel love like ours always La da da, da da dum
And the dream is to share This Christmas cheer With you all throughout the year And not wait till the morning When Christmas time is in the air Christmas time is everywhere Christmas time is in the air again.
Again And again.
WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES (Written by Mariah Carey and James Poyser)
The whole world Feels a little bit more love When Christmas comes When Christmas comes
And everywhere that you go People singing "Let It Snow" And hanging up That mistletoe
And me and you gonna have ourselves A holiday And we don't need nobody else To celebrate And we're gon' kiss our worries And our cares away I can't wait
Because this Christmas time Get together It's gonna be so nice Better than ever And baby you're the one Special treasure I can't wait to unwrap your love Until Christmas comes
So many souls hurt So many don't have enough When Christmas comes When Christmas comes
But baby if you spread love Someday it might be enough To heal each other One by one
And we gon' get together And rejoice and pray And we gon' help the world Become a better place And we gon' sing and shout Because the savior reigns So don't dismay
Because this Christmas time Get together It's gonna be so nice Better than ever Because this gift of love Lasts forever The Lord makes our hearts open up Soon as Christmas comes
It's gon' be alright When Christmas comes Oh jingle all the way Oh what fun, hmm
And we gon' reminisce about The good old days And we gon' laugh together as The children play And through the years is always Gonna be this way Come what may
Because this Christmas time Get together It's gonna be so nice Better than ever And baby you're the one That I treasure I can't wait to unwrap your love When Christmas comes
Lalala dada dada dada dadada dada
ONE CHILD (Written by Mariah Carey and Marc Shaiman)
An angel appeared Of the Highest One And Mary believed The word she received Of God's only Son
The Virgin rejoiced Gave thanks to the Lord And as Joseph dreamt The angel was sent With tidings of peace and joy Of love, blessed baby Boy
They traveled for miles To reach Bethlehem Yet when they arrived No one could provide A place at the inn for them
But God kept them safe From hurt, harm and danger In His warm embrace Away in a manger Waiting for Jesus' birth To glorify the earth
Then He came...
One Child Can change the world Christmas morn The King of all Kings was born He reigns forever more Let us worship and adore Christ the Lord
Oh a wondrous star Led shepherds and wisemen Through valleys and mountains Angels surrounded them As they traveled far
As heaven and hope Rang out for the savior The sweet Prince of peace Lay majestically Asleep glorious and pure And His mercy endures
One Child Can change the world Christmas morn The King of all Kings was born He reigns forever more Let us worship and adore Christ the Lord
One Child Can change the world Christmas morn The King of all Kings was born He reigns forever more Let us worship and Let us worship and Let us worship Christ the Lord
An angel appeared An angel appeared Christ the Lord On Christmas morn.

Mariah Welcomes Family on Extreme Makeover Reveal
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 25-Oct-2010, 8:30AM EDT
Pop superstar Mariah Carey stepped out of a van, into a director's chair and waited Sunday for Finis Gaston and the niece and nephews he's been caring for to step out of a limousine on Sunday and see their new "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" home.
"Extreme Makeover" may be a reality TV show, but as spectators found out Sunday, it's still a TV show and so trying to make a quality production was Job 1 for the production crew onhand Sunday in Pensacola.
What did that mean? A lot of waiting for spectators and an almost eerie parade practice scene in which marching bands, cheerleaders and floats came down the street with no music.
But it also meant that the onlookers got to yell "Move that bus!" in a scene that will be played out as a special holiday episode of the popular TV show. And it meant they got to catch more than a glimpse of the show's star -- Ty Pennington -- and of Mariah Carey, who has more No. 1 hits than Michael Jackson and is second only to The Beatles in that category.
Carey stayed secreted in a commercial building near the build site at 1301 Rainbow Ave. in Pensacola, then was moved to the "Move that bus!" site just before the carefully rehearsed, but no less enthusiastic, band made its way down the street.
When the doors of the white van she was in opened, thousands of onlookers, including member of the Fairhope High School cheerleading squad, screamed in excitement.
It was the crowning moment of a busy week for Frank Lott III and the whole Mobile-based Heritage Homes crew that made the home possible.
"With Finis being a huge fan of Mariah Carey, it makes today that much more special," Lott said. "And for our team and all the volunteers, watching the family's reaction and seeing the final home lit up for Christmas was what we have been thinking about this whole week while we worked."
As for what the family got to see when they stepped inside the 3,600-square-foot home with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a nursery will remain a relative secret until the show airs Dec. 12.
Carey has a new holiday album coming out, which is part of the reason for her appearance at the "Extreme Makeover" reveal. The other reason is that she is the favorite singer of Gaston, a male cheerleader who was attending Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama, when his mother died and he left school to take care of his niece and her children.

Living The Life: Message From Mariah
Posted by Lynn on Sunday, 24-Oct-2010, 8:12AM EDT
Jermaine Dupri filmed a special episode of Living The Life to let everyone know that "Oh Santa!," the new single from Mariah's upcoming Merry Christmas II You album, debuted at #1 on Billboard's Holiday Digital Songs chart this week.
"What's up, lifers? Mariah sent me for this Living The Life, she says, 'Jermaine, I need you to do a special edition of Living The Life and let all the lifers know that we have the no. 1 Christmas song in America right now.' The record debuted at no. 1, 'Oh Santa!,' so if you ain't pick it up make sure y'all go to iTunes. I wanna say congratulations to Mariah. Shout out to my boy B.Cox. It's another one, man. You know what I mean? And I sent the message on Twitter: 'There's no producer, no producer that has had the no. 1 Christmas song, a Hip-Hop honor and Song of The Decade all in the same year. No producer.' Everybody keeps saying I'm underrated, we don't care about that. The stats is the stats."
Mariah to Appear on Chelsea Lately?

Posted by Lynn on Friday, 22-Oct-2010, 11:27PM EDT
Mariah Carey to attend 'Move that bus!' moment Sunday; public invited to attend
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" announced today that hit singer Mariah Carey will be in Pensacola, Florida on Sunday, October 24 to welcome home Finis Gaston and his family and that the public is invited to attend the "Move that bus!" moment when the family gets to see the new home for the first time.
Carey was on hand on Monday to give Gaston the news that he and his niece and her children would be the latest recipients of an "Extreme Makeover" home. She will be there again Sunday for "the reveal," as it's known.
The home has been being built this week by Heritage Homes of Mobile, which also built an "Extreme Makeover" home for the Gaudet family of Mobile in 2008.
Because the show will air Dec. 12 as the "Extreme Makeover" holiday show, the build has had a holiday theme and people who come out on Sunday to watch the house be unveiled are asked to wear holiday garb.
The reveal is schedule to take place at 2 p.m. Sunday and members of the public are asked to check ExtremeHeritageHomes.com for updates.
The home is being constructed at 1301 Rainbow Ave. in Pensacola, but producers of the ABC show say spectators should park at a shuttle pickup site at W Street and Beverly Parkway. From there, buses will shuttle spectators to the homesite from 8 a.m. until spectators have cleared.
Spectators should plan to spend several hours onsite and should prepare by bringing plenty of fluids, such as water and sports drinks, and by wearing sunscreen.

"Oh Santa!" Debuts at #1 on Holiday Digital Songs!
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 21-Oct-2010, 7:46PM EDT
Congratulations, everyone! Mariah's festive new single "Oh Santa!" is #1 on the Holiday Digital Songs chart in Billboard magazine issue dated Oct. 30, 2010.
Mariah Carey The singer builds anticipation for "Merry Christmas II You," due Nov. 2, with first single "Oh Santa!," which debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's new Holiday Digital Songs chart (one position above her original version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You"). The follow-up album to 1994's "Merry Christmas" includes a duet with Carey's mother, Patricia.
It's not even Halloween yet, but Mariah Carey is already ushering in Christmas. The pop songbird and Island Def Jam chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid turned Allen Room at Lincoln Center in New York City into a winter wonderland to host a festive listening session for Merry Christmas II You, the follow-up to her 1994 best-selling Christmas album.
Munching on candy canes and Hershey's Kisses and sipping Mariah's own Angel Champagne, guests including Gayle King, singer Trey Lorenz, and "Extra" correspondent A.J. Calloway shuffled from the reception room to the soundstage, where Reid took the podium situated on a stage decorated with white pine trees, giant ornaments, and silver boxes of presents.
"It's challenging. It's Christmas in October, I know," joked Reid before introducing the album. "Mariah started making this album in June after three years of asking."
While Reid emceed the playback by introducing every other song, Mimi made a surprise appearance before the end of the album, bringing her hubbie Nick Cannon up on stage to help her share in the moment.
"For me, Christmas began in spring or summer. And basically, our house in L.A., Nick was very cool to deal with it," she explained. "It was decorated kind of like this but with a little bit of reds and blues and greens and stuff, all since the summer. So I've been in the spirit, and this is a very creative moment for me personally and just to be working on this particular album right now has been exceptionally special for me."
After thanking collaborators Randy Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, and Broadway composer Marc Shaiman, Mimi left the stage, leaving listeners with a few songs to close out the evening. Rap-Up.com is giving you a peek at 11 songs before the wrapping comes off on November 2.
"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (Intro)" Produced by Mariah Carey and Marc Shaiman Chiming bells introduce the album, setting the tone with a lush orchestral background that segues into the following track.
"Oh Santa!" Produced by Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, and Bryan-Michael Cox Many in attendance had already heard the ebullient sleigh bell-driven single, so they enjoyed the track while watching projected images showing Mariah with her dogs in front of snowmen, skiing with her husband, and sleeping by the fireside.
"O Little Town of Bethlehem / Little Drummer Boy (Medley)" Produced by Mariah Carey, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Randy Jackson The instruments are thick on this traditional jazzy number. Mariah pulls back on her vocals, allowing her voice to flutter over rolling percussion, dulcet flutes, and swelling strings. Of course, it wouldn't be a Mimi track without some bold singing near the end, but it finishes on a softer, heartwarming note.
"The First Noel / Born Is the King (Interlude)" Produced by Mariah Carey, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Randy Jackson A smoky piano introduces this bare ballad where Mariah flexes her vocal chops with her signature buttery trills. Strings join in after the first verse and chorus, culminating in a grandiose finish.
"When Christmas Comes" Produced by Mariah Carey and James Poyser The most contemporary R&B song on the album, this begins with a crackly brass section, playing like classic soul. "Because this Christmastime/ Get together, it's gonna be so nice/ Better than ever/ And boy, you're the one that I'll treasure/ I can't wait to unwrap your love/ When Christmas comes," sings Mimi before the song ends with a brief segue into "Jingle Bells."
"Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane) / Housetop Celebration" Produced by Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, and Bryan-Michael Cox Sampling Chic's "Good Times," this '80s hip-hop-inspired cut updates the seasonal standard with a pounding backbeat, heavily influenced by the classic So So Def sound.
"Charlie Brown Christmas" Produced by Mariah Carey, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Randy Jackson The classic piano instrumental fits snugly on the album, melding into "Christmas Time Is Here" from the classic TV special "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The song slows to a seasonal, languid pace, heavy on the piano.
"O Come All Ye Faithful / Hallelujah Chorus" feat. Patricia Carey Produced by Mariah Carey, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Randy Jackson "This next number is very special because it features a lady that I would probably say is the most responsible for her gene pool spilling over into Mariah," said Reid, introducing the song. "It's her mother Patricia Carey, who's singing a song with Mariah."
The gospel-heavy tune sees Mariah taking the first verse, while her operatic mother assumes second verse duties. Mimi comes in right at the end of her mom's portion with a shrieking falsetto, closing out the song with an intergenerational duet.
"To be able to include my mother and work with her, that was really special," Mariah later added.
"O Holy Night" (Live from WPC in South Central Los Angeles) Produced by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff Recorded live at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Central Los Angeles, this gospel recording features a full band and backing chorus as Mariah nails the vocals. "It's really amazing, I'm so happy she included that on this recording," shared Reid.
"All I Want for Christmas Is You (Extra Festive)" Produced by Mariah Carey, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Randy Jackson With a new orchestral introduction, this American classic features newly recorded vocals from Mariah as well as a beefier backing chorus, fresh ad-libs, and an extended outro, sounding just as enjoyable as it did in 1994.
"It's a little known fact that she was one of the greatest writers of our time," said Reid of Mariah. "That song, which she wrote, is the most successful holiday song written and released in the modern era–and she wrote it. That's just phenomenal. We know a lot of songwriters. How many of them can say they truly wrote a standard? A true standard?"
Mariah later shared that she bugged composer Marc Shaiman about redoing the song's intro by calling him with ideas at 6 a.m. "I would call him and I was like, 'All I Want for Christmas' needs a new intro," she said. "No, I didn't leave that off this album, if there are any real fans out there, but that one is remade and the intro is so good."
"Auld Lang Syne (The New Year's Anthem)" Closing the album, this features Mariah performing the classic tune with a mellow piano and strong chorus before voices count back from 10 to 1 and the party begins. "The New Year's Anthem" is the album's sole dance record, capping the holiday release with a feel-good jam.

Mariah Launches New Christmas Album
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 21-Oct-2010, 4:18AM EDT
Mariah Carey launched many new things last night at the Allen Room at Jazz Lincoln Center: her new album, which features-surprise-her mom, Patricia as a stunning operatic guest vocalist.
Carey also—even though she made no announcement—showed off her pretty obvious pregnant self. She glowed as she took the stage in a kind of black teddy design of a maternity dress. Then she brought out husband Nick Cannon and he glowed. Photographers took pictures and didn't need flash. It came from the couple.
Island Def Jam's L.A. Reid introduced the album, "Merry Christmas II You," which is "available" on November 2nd. (He noted that you can't say "in stores" anymore since there aren't many.) Reid kicked off the listening session before Carey arrived since she was late-let's face it, she's always late and everyone knows it. But by the time he finished playing several tracks, Mariah and Nick had arrived and all was good.
In the audience: Marc Shaiman, the great Broadway composer, who helped give Mariah arrangements, orchestrations, and new songs that make her notable eight octave voice sound terrific. Also on hand: Gayle King, and Mariah's phalanx of agents and lawyers.
On stage, Mariah joked about working long hours, and gave thanks to missing producer Randy Jackson. "He's off working on some show," she joked about "American Idol."
And about the album: those who counted Mariah out after the disappointing sales of her last CD, guess what? She's back. From the Phil Spectorish remake of her classic holiday song "All I Want for Christmas Is You" to Shaiman's lush, gorgeous "Christmas Time is in the Air," Mariah nails the whole thing. Her voice has never sounded better. There's a nod to A Charlie Brown Christmas with a sample of Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts music mashed up with "Christmas Time is Here." I loved the funky R&B version of "Here Comes Santa Claus" mixed up with a Chic sample and Akon.
As for the big 'white elephant' in the room: as Mariah conveyed to this column several weeks ago, she's superstitious about discussing the pregnancy. That's fine. You can tell how happy she is! Meanwhile, she's doing a Christmas TV special on December 12th-and there will be no denying it then.
Start knitting those baby booties.

Christmas has come early for Mariah Carey!
The 40-year-old powerhouse singer gave an early listen of her upcoming holiday album, Merry Christmas II You, at NYC's Lincoln Center on Wednesday (October 20).
"This is her love, this is her passion, this is her real joy," Def Jam exec L.A. Reid said, adding that Mariah goes "all out" for Christmas and has been in the spirit ever since she started recording in June!
Mariah and hubby Nick Cannon were both on hand and came onstage during the celebration to thank those who made the album possible!
Here are some tidbits from the album:
"Oh Santa!" - The audience clapped along to this uptempo, energetic song!
"O Little Town of Bethlehem / Little Drummer Boy Medley" - A powerful mix of two Christmas classics - the song showed off Mariah's legendary pipes!
"Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" - Slow, sultry and understated number.
"The First Noel / Born is the King (Interlude)" - The song begins with a piano arrangement paired with Mariah's melismatic singing - as the chorus builds, an orchestra comes in and she belts it out big!
"When Christmas Comes" - A soulful R&B song featuring a horn section and an interlude of "Jingle Bells."
"Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane) / Housetop Celebration" - The song features Akon and samples the bass line of Chic's "Good Times" and turns the original on its head!
"Charlie Brown Christmas" - The song begins with the Peanuts classic "Linus and Lucy" before slowing down and going into a sexy, breathy update of "Christmas Time is Here."
"O Come All Ye Faithful / Hallelujah Chorus" (feat. Patricia Carey) - Mariah's mom, Patricia, sings classical opera while Mariah hits those sky high notes. Super powerful song and our favorite track from the album! Both Mom and Mariah's voices blend perfectly!
"O Holy Night" - Live - Mariah sings over an organ and backing choir at a church in South Central Los Angeles. If you don't get goosebumps on this track, check your pulse!
"All I Want for Christmas is You - Extra Festive" - The most successful holiday song in recent history gets a new orchestral introduction! When Mariah came out on stage, she dished that she'd call the song's arranger at 6 a.m. with thoughts on how to change it - and thanked him for his patience.
"Auld Lang Syne - The New Year's Anthem" - Begins with a piano introduction and a backing choir before a countdown begins and the song turns into a club banger!
Video: Mariah Previews Merry Christmas II You on HSN

Mariah gave an exclusive preview of her new Holiday album, Merry Christmas II You on HSN TV today, October 20th. In a one-on-one interview with HSN's Colleen Lopez, Mariah talked about Merry Christmas II You: her collaborators on the album, duet with mom Patricia, the new and traditional songs included on the album. She also played some song snippets, and gave the viewers some footage from the album's accompanying DVD. You can watch the full video of today's telecast at HSN.com or you can download our TV capture of the 8:30am show below.
FULL TRANSCRIPT Colleen Lopez, HSN: We are so thrilled to be in Mariah Carey's beautiful home here in Los Angeles to premiere her fabulous new holiday album. I have to tell you, a lot of us remember back in 1994 when we purchased her first album. Since that, her first Merry Christmas album became the no. 1 top selling holiday CD of all time. So we have been waiting a long time for this. Mariah has recorded a brand-new album. You're gonna fall in love with it. Lots of classics; tons of brand-new, original songs as well. And on HSN today, the package we're gonna offer you is exclusive. It's $14.95. You get not just this CD, which you're gonna fall in love with, but you also get the DVD. It's reduced shipping today by the way so grab it because I promise you, you want to fill your home and your world with this beautiful music. And it's all thanks to the lovely Mariah Carey who is so gracious to welcome us into your amazing home. Thank you so much. And who is this darling little friend with us? Mariah Carey: Thank you. This is our new puppy Jackie. Jackie Lambchops is her full name.
HSN: You're envisioned with your tree, we have the fire burning, you have your little puppy, your friends, I hear they call you Miss Christmas? MC: Well, some. They call me many things [laughs] but yes, I am very festive. I love the holidays. Everybody who knows me knows that I make a huge deal out of Christmas. I am to the point of like, I mean, it needs to be stopped [laughs]. No, it's just, we're getting in the mood for Christmas this early.
HSN: Right, I love that and what better way. Your music, even though it's a holiday album, I want to play it immediately. You want to start playing it in October. The songs are so beautiful. It took a while, why now? Because 1994, it's been a while, why did you decide now to record a new Christmas album? MC: Being that I was five years old when I made that album [laughs], I just felt like, "You know what? Let me give the world..." No, sorry I had to do that. I'm a writer... [Sorry, the dog's behind is not good in the shot. We love you Jackie but we're going to have to let you go because the butt shot isn't working. This is a holiday moment. Bye-bye.] So I decided to do another Christmas album because so many people have told me that they really enjoyed the first album and that they listen to it throughout the year.
HSN: Think about it - the best-selling of all time. Think of all the Christmas albums. And it continues to be, I mean, every year, it continues to be a huge album. MC: That's the amazing thing. It's a gift for me really because I've always, I love the holidays. Ever since I was little, it's been just my favorite time of year and to be able to have this Christmas, particularly "All I Want For Christmas Is You," which I have on the new album as well as the original album. Yes, I had to do that because like every year people tell me they wait for that song and that's how they know Christmas time is here. And it's one of those things where I'm like, "I wrote this song on a Casio keyboard in upstate New York so many years ago," and I'm like I can't believe there are people who grew up listening to that. They have memories of their own - Christmas memories that go with that song. So we have the classics and all the favorites such as "All I Want For Christmas Is You" from the original album, and then I've written a new song that sort of in the vein of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" but it's called "Oh Santa!" and it's like, it just feels like something you've heard before. It's got a classic vibe to it. Sort of the way like "All I Want For Christmas Is You." When I wrote that, I wasn't thinking, "Oh, let me write something that sounds very of-the-moment. I wanted it to feel like a classic then. But back then I wasn't thinking like, "Let me make a hot record for 'today's time.' So I was thinking let me just do something kind of that will stand the test of time. And that's what this new song is but it has this really infectious hook and it's really fun. And then, of course, there are the ballads, traditional songs like "O Come All Ye Faithful," and "The First Noel," I could go on forever. But it's like on the first Christmas album, I did "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and combined it with... we did sort of a lot of medleys on the first album - the first Christmas album I did Merry Christmas so Merry Christmas II which is actually called Merry Christmas II You, I wanted to make sure that we had enough classics so people would feel like they can listen to the album and it's not like, "What is this weird rendition of a song I've known all my life? I wanna hear it pretty much as I grew up hearing it" but obviously, I have my own style so I try to bring that into it. A lot of people have been asking me for years, "Are you ever gonna sing with your Mom?" They know that my mother is an opera singer.
HSN: Is your mom gonna sing with you on this album? MC: Yes. We discussed doing a duet and I really wanted to make sure it happened on this Christmas album. So I feel really blessed to be able to have this opportunity to have this on record forever - a song with my mom. She's the one who really got me into being so festive at Christmas, I have to say. Like she's very festive as well.
HSN: I just have to say, this is going to sell out. Everyone's going to buy this. It's $14.95. You get to hear the duet that Mariah was just talking about along with all of your other favorites, lots of new. The unique thing about Mariah Carey is that, along with your incredible voice, this 5-octave voice that is just the voice of an angel, you are really the only one artist that does everything - you produce, you write your songs, you arrange your songs. You have so many varied talents that you were able to incorporate into your work that is really unlike most artists today. You really have so many gifts. MC: Thank you. I truly believe that music is a gift, I really do. And it can be something that's passed down but I really do feel it's a gift from God. That's why I love singing, particularly holiday songs. It's a different feeling that you get.
HSN: So do you have a favorite classic on this album? A classic we can share with everyone at home? MC: I really can't pick a favorite but what we've got on this album are like these very festive uptempos like "Oh Santa!" with an infectious hook that you just want to hear over and over. It's my own song so it's weird to talk about it like that but that's how I feel. I'm proud of it. At a certain point I backed away from it like it's somebody else's thing. I don't wanna sound as if I'm bragging about my own song that's what I'm saying.
HSN: You're passionate about it and that's infectious. That's wonderful! MC: So there's "Little Town of Bethlehem" and the "Little Drummer Boy" and Randy and I and Big Jim Wright did this arrangement where it's sort of a medley of the two. It's kind of a cool different way to hear it but you get used to it after listening to it one time and I really enjoyed singing it. And so that'll be a nice, better music just to get you in the mood.
HSN: We're gonna take a listen right now, listen to one of the classics, how about "O Little Town of Bethlehem"? MC: Sounds good.
["O Little Town of Bethlehem/Little Drummer Boy" Snippet plays] Listen:
HSN: So beautiful. The choir, the vocal arranging. That's just one of the many beautiful songs you're going to experience on Mariah Carey's latest Christmas album. If you'd like to order, I know we're very busy, it's $14.95. You cannot buy this package anywhere but here. It's a reduced shipping & handling. You will fall in love. So along with classics, things that we look forward to hearing at Christmas time and nobody sings them like Mariah Carey. There are going to be lots of interesting, exciting new songs. I know, Mariah you're doing collaborations again with Jermaine Dupri, that's very exciting. MC: Yes. The fans are really excited. They kept going on Twitter saying like, "What are you guys doing? Is it a Christmas album? What is it?" and we didn't really want to tell so that was kind of tough to keep under wraps. I love working with Jermaine.
HSN: I love that you're collaborating with your Mom on this album. Your mom is an opera singer, of course. That's really special. MC: I feel it was important for me to do something with my mother. I'm just really excited for people to hear her voice and she's a tremendously gifted singer so we did a song, we did, I did a new arrangement with Big Jim Wright of "O Come All Ye Faithful" into the "Hallelujah Chorus." Actually a friend of mine, my friend Erik from Chicago, he actually said, "You should do the 'Hallelujah Chorus'." And then when I talked to my mom about doing a duet I thought that would be interesting because she would be able to do that so beautifully. And so I do the first part, she does that middle section, and then we sort of take it out together. It's really nice because people who aren't necessarily opera fans, they want a little taste of that and then they want to go back to the regular Christmas vibe that they've been listening to so it's a nice combination.
HSN: One of the things that strikes me about you, you have such a sense for really what people love. And you think about, you seem ageless to me. Look at you, you look so amazing. I can't believe you launched that first album in 1994. I'm just saying this. You look so amazingly young. You're looking younger now. I was looking at my original 'cause I bought your original Christmas album I swear you look younger now than you did on that original. It's similar. I loved it, it's kind of a play on the... MC: Actually we tried to, this is sort of the night time fun version of that album and the first Christmas album I was freezing cold and my hair was frozen to my head. This is sort of like, there's the Merry Christmas that side of it, this is sort of part 2 and I wanted to really keep the essence of what the first Christmas album I did had. I wanted to give people those big background vocals. I wanted to make sure I gave vocal performances that people really wanted to listen to and felt something from because I know when I'm singing and I feel something that's probably gonna, people will feel something from it as well so I wanna preserve that. I also wanted to keep the fun, not-so-serious festive side of the whole thing.
HSN: I want to remind everybody, if you haven't called yet, for $14.95 you get everything we're talking about and so much more. And by the way, you can't get the DVD anywhere but here so it's a CD/DVD package. It's for $15. What a beautiful gift too by the way - holiday gift, perfect gift. MC: I love watching at Christmas time just anything Christmassy like we'll leave on the cartoon movies or whatever it is. So the DVD, it's just like a special feature which you can leave it on and hear the music and feel, whatever you're doing, if you're cooking, if you're hanging out, whatever it is, it's just there. The footage of the creation of making this music to kind of enhance the holiday.
["O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus" with mom Patricia Snippet plays] Listen:
HSN: You're going to fall in love with Mariah's newest Christmas album. We're so excited to be premiering it here today. I'm thrilled to see so many of you ordering it because truly when you fill your home with this amazing voice, and these beautiful songs, it feels like Christmas, it sounds like Christmas, it puts your heart in the right place during this beautiful Christmas season that's going to be coming up right around the corner. For under $15 I don't want you to miss it. It's just you've done such a beautiful job. It's funny because you touched on earlier, you said, "Oh people say I'm diva" and you are so not that. You're just a perfectionist. You just are so passionate about what you do and that's why your work is so amazing. Really. It just shows on what you do. MC: Thank you. You know what it is, I guess I feel like I don't feel diva's not a compliment because having an opera singer for a mother I've been hearing diva since people didn't say diva every other word and it's like it really does mean someone who's talented, and it can also mean difficult, but hey, we can all be difficult every now and then. But I guess I feel like being someone who loves to create music and work on different genres and I tried to sort of let that be represented in this Merry Christmas II You album because the template was the original Merry Christmas album and that's why you can play them back to back and not feel like jolted or jarred or something odd just happened. I was really inspired by like the Nat King Coles of the world and all the classics that we love just in terms of the music but then also like the fun Mike, Jackson 5s, and '60s records that are really festive Christmas songs but they have a soulful vibe to them as well. They make you feel happy, and I think that's the whole thing. It's about family and friends, and it just really takes you in. I actually wrote with James Poyser who is a wonderful musician. We worked on The Emancipation of Mimi together. We did a song called "Mine Again" which a lot of my fans love, that's a fan favorite. It was never a single but a lot of people really liked it. We wrote this new song called "When Christmas Comes" and it talks about every kind of part of what you deal with during the holidays - relationships, family, every bit of festivities, even worshipping the real, whatever your definition of Christmas is. I think it's kind of encompassed within that song and it's got a nice feeling to it.
HSN: And you and Randy Jackson worked on, co-produced this together. I know you've so many amazing things together. MC: I love Randy Jackson. Randy Jackson just to anybody who doesn't know - Randy Jackson of American Idol, is a very, very invaluable person in my life. He's such a great friend. He is an incredible musician. He's been on the road with like almost every band in history. You mention anybody's name it's like he knows them but he really does. Everybody thinks that he's making this up but he really does so we really got together and I said, "Randy, let's do this 'cause I know you get what my music has to be and the broadness." Because of the demographic where it's like I'd be able to reach young people as well as older people, and all different ethnicities and so Randy can get that.
HSN: That's not easy to do but you do that. MC: I do because it's what I really am and what I really love.
["The First Noel/Born is the King Interlude" Snippet plays] Listen:
HSN: You are absolutely going to fall in love with Mariah Carey's newest Merry Christmas II You. Wait till you fill your home with these beautiful songs. We all love Mariah's voice but when she's singing our favorite Christmas classics and all of this new music, I cannot wait for you to get this home. It's $15, $14.95 reduced shipping & handling. It's an exclusive package. We're the first to launch this and you cannot find this anywhere else. So you get the new album and you get the DVD both. And I just can't wait for people to experience it. Right? It puts you in the mood for Christmas. MC: It definitely does and if you only knew a lot of the time when you record a Christmas album it's not at Christmas time. So the really cool thing about working with Randy Jackson on this album is he has a studio out here that we worked in a lot and he had them decorate so much even during the heat of summer and it was Christmas time for everybody 'cause he knows how I am. I have a Christmas tree set up. I have a vocal booth in my house where I record a lot of stuff, it's pink and black and very festive. In that room I have a Christmas tree and everything set up just because I wanted to make it feel authentic. A lot of people look at making a Christmas album like, "Oh, it's just a throw-away thing and then I'll do my real album." For me, these are timeless pieces of work that can last year after year after year and so I wanna be able to listen to it.
HSN: Isn't one of your Christmas songs the no. 1 ringtone around the holiday season? MC: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and that makes me really happy. Everytime I see that because again as a songwriter I'm sitting there like this is something that's really making people feel festive and that's my whole thing. I'm very festive, I'll admit it, in case you didn't get that by now.
HSN: It's a good thing. And you know what? I know, we're running out of time. $14.95 to get this home. Again, I love the fact that we get to launch it here. That it's exclusive so not only do you get the beautiful album that I just know, I love the original so much, this is everything that original is and more. MC: We actually redid "All I Want For Christmas Is You" for everybody to be able to have that, know that they're going to get that song on this album as well as a bunch of new, the "Oh Santa!" which everybody is calling me about going, "I can't believe you wrote another Christmas song that's my favorite new song ever."
HSN: And then the DVD we can play that during holiday parties or just to get into the spirit. MC: You can leave that on while you're cooking, doing whatever. I actually cook at the holidays, nobody believes me but I do. And you'll see, they'll see some of the content of that and a lot of fun, festive footage just for you guys that we have on this DVD.
HSN: You and Randy Jackson make a great team. MC: I love Randy Jackson. Honestly, I couldn't have made this album without him. He put me in such a great space and he's just been such a helpful... he's an amazing musician everybody out there. He's not just someone who judges people in a talent show.
HSN: He was in the band Journey, right? MC: Yeah, he worked with Journey for a long time. He's worked with almost everybody but he used to be my musical director. Even when I got out on tour, sometimes he still does so much for me, even though he's super busy. This has been a really, really fun journey with him and just having this new album. And David LaChapelle who's one of my favorite all-time photographers came out of retirement and shot this album cover for me. So it's like we have the original Merry Christmas which sort of shows the daytime, and this kind of gives you the nighttime fuzzy feeling. Also a little bit more like city lights kind of you know so it's an all-around feeling of holiday cheer.
["Santa Claus is Coming to Town" Intro plays, then segues into the full "Oh Santa!"] Listen:
HSN: You know what I think is remarkable when I listen to the album is when I think of your amazing career, you've worked with the biggest Hip-Hop artist of all time, you've worked with the most famous Pavarotti, opera singer of all time, and yet when you listen to the music it's seamless. You incorporate so much but it's so beautiful and seamless. How do you do that? MC: It really is sort of almost a representation of who I am because I did grow up loving and listening to R&B and Hip-Hop but I also have an opera singer for a mother and she also sang Jazz and I was exposed to a lot of different styles of music as a kid. I even started out like just playing and singing with Jazz musicians growing up and stuff. And so working on an album like this new, or even starting with my first Christmas album, my task was to make an album with uptempos that were festive and fun but still did not alienate anybody when they listen to the big ballads and that's what I was trying to do with Merry Christmas II You which is basically an extension of where we left off on the last album so it won't feel jarring. So you're gonna feel the soulfulness of some of the collaborations with like a James Poyser, Jermaine Dupri, obviously Randy Jackson, Big Jim Wright, and then you'll feel the beauty of something that a new song or a classic like "The First Noel" or "Little Town of Bethlehem" or "O Come All Ye Faithfaul," orchestrated by one of most incredible Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning geniuses that I just fell in love with, Marc Shaiman. And so it's like my task was really to make the album a seamless piece of work where you could put it on and listen to it and as you are going about your holiday moments just have something as sort of a soundtrack.
HSN: I think that's one of the things that I love most about you is that I've always been a huge fan. I've loved you from 1990 when you burst on the scene. MC: From birth because that's when...
HSN: [Laughs] Exactly! When you were 2. MC: No, that's when I was born and that's the amazing thing that nobody gives me credit for. I'm sick and tired of it. I did stuff from inside the womb[laughs]. Colleen, you have to forgive me. Sorry, people. HSN: [Laughs] Genius. It is true.
[At this point, Mariah talks about her jewelry and shoe collection that she will be showcasing on HSN in late November.]

Mariah Films Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 18-Oct-2010, 5:09PM EDT
Mariah is currently filming an episode of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at Baker High School in Baker, Florida as she revealed on her Twitter page minutes ago. The show is scheduled to air on Sunday, December 12th at 8pm ET on ABC. Be sure to tune in!
MariahCarey So amazing down here@ Baker HS w/Extreme Home makeover! Loving Ty,Micheal,Tracy,Johnny-all the kids@the school+the Gaston family! Show airs Dec.12th-they r in for a HUGE suprise! Don't miss it-verrrry festive! X0x0 LYM!
Mariah arrived at Bob Sikes Airport Monday morning to announce the Baker recipient of an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition home.
Pop star Mariah Carey showed up today to surprise a male cheerleader and former Alabama A&M student who is going to receive a new home from the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" program.
Finis Gaston of Pensacola was coaching a cheerleading session in Baker, where he takes care of his niece and nephews, when Carey broke the good news to the Gaston family.
Now it's up to Heritage Homes of Mobile to complete a house for the Gastons by Sunday.
"We are ready to give Finis Gaston and his family a fresh start here in Pensacola," said Frank Lott, III, Heritage Homes' president. "His positive attitude and big heart will be the inspiration that carries our team of builders and volunteers as we take on this weekʼs build."
Gaston was raised by a single mother in a poor neighborhood. His mom also took care of his young niece and two nephews. When Gaston was 16, the straight A-student and sports enthusiast tried out for the Baker School cheerleading team.
After the coach saw his sky-high jump and perfect toe-touch, she volunteered to pay for everything he needed to be on the team, according to a Heritage Homes news release. Gaston made school history as the first male cheerleader and his confidence and sense of humor made him a school favorite. His dream to go to college and earn a degree in social work came true when he was discovered by a football scout, who offered Gaston a full scholarship to Alabama A&M University.
With just one year left to graduation, Gaston's beloved mother died unexpectedly. Although he was living his dream, he left college to return home and care for his niece and nephews so that they would not be sent to foster care.
In addition to his job serving lunches at Baker School, Gaston is a volunteer coach for a local area girlsʼ cheerleading team at the Baker Area Youth Association. Under his guidance, he has led their team to win local competitions. Gaston opened a gymnastics business called Finest Tumblers, but he had to shut it down when the building was recently sold.
When Finest Tumblers was shut down, Gaston lost the income that he planned to use to make his familyʼs home safe and livable.
Finis and his niece, 18-year-old Jasqulon Gaston, her baby boy, LaRon and Gaston's nephews: Tyshun Morris, 15 and Tyvun Morris, 8, will go on vacation to Disney World. While they are gone, design team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Tracy Hutson and Johnny Littlefield will join with Heritage Homes and its staff and volunteers to build the structure.
About Reviews "Oh Santa!"
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 18-Oct-2010, 8:54AM EDT
Mariah Carey - "Oh Santa!" By Bill Lamb, About.com Rating:
16 years ago Mariah Carey released her first Christmas album Merry Christmas, and it included the instant standard, "All I Want For Christmas Is You." Now she is releasing her second Christmas collection Merry Christmas II You, and it includes the stellar single "Oh Santa!" This easily could be one of the top new Christmas tracks of 2010. Upbeat, cheerful, and thoroughly Mariah Carey, pop radio should jump on this throughout the holidays.
A cheerleader chant, jazzy verse and chorus, chiming bells, handclaps, and a trademark melismatic extravaganza near the end all make this Christmas tune a classic Mariah Carey recording. Lyrically it is all a request of Santa Claus to bring a lover back as the ultimate Christmas gift. It is a simple, common Christmas song sentiment, but in the hands of Mariah Carey and her collaborators Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox is a deliriously perky introduction to the season.
"Oh Santa!" sounds effortlessly breezy and hearkens back to classic Mariah Carey music. There is nothing self-consciously contemporary. The song would be perfectly at home on an old-fashioned Christmas television special. The hint of competition with the desired boyfriend's new girlfriend gives the song just the amount of sass and spunk that is needed to keep things interesting. Mariah Carey attacks the vocals with perfect spirit for the holidays.

The Film Stage lists their "10 Singers Who (Eventually) Proved They Could Act," and gives Mariah, at #5, a great write-up:
5. Mariah Carey, Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire - Although Mo'nique took home the Oscar and much of the buzz in this harsh film about abuse, pregnancy and life, one can't forget how impressive Mariah Carey was in her brief scenes as a no-nonsense social worker in Lee Daniels' haunting film. Carey's appearance has been deglamed in order to make her seem ordinary but the fire behind her performance is what makes her shine. Carey holds her own in the final scenes with the powerhouse performance by Mo'nique (a task that would prove difficult for even more accomplished actresses) and shows she has come a long way since her disastrous performance in Glitter.

MDJ Readers' Top 20 in 20 Video: And The Winner Is...
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 16-Oct-2010, 12:15AM EDT
After weeks of elimination rounds, it is now time to announce the final results of the MDJ Readers' 20 in 20 Video Countdown: The Final Showdown between the top two videos, "Honey" and "The Roof."
According to the final tally, with a total of 7,965 votes cast, THE ULTIMATE FAN FAVORITE MARIAH CAREY VIDEO is:
"Honey" - The video that introduced pop culture to a post-divorce Mariah was "Honey." Mariah has said that the concept of the "Honey" video was influenced by the 'Bond Girls' from James Bond movies, and she has said the video was just an excuse for her to wear different outfits. Directed by Paul Hunter and shot during the summer in Puerto Rico, "Honey" featured a scantily clad Mariah being held hostage inside of a huge mansion by three men, including an Italian mobster played by actor Frank Sivero. Mariah escapes her captors, jumps off a balcony into a pool, and emerges in a bikini. The bikini in the pool scene is modeled after Bond girl Honey Ryder, who emerged from the ocean in a similar bikini in Dr. No. The video ends with Mariah frolicking around on a beach with Cuban-American model David Fumero and her dog, Jack. There was media speculation that the plot of the video paralleled Mariah breaking free from her marriage, but Mariah maintained that she was just having fun. "It's just a James Bond spoof," she explained. "The actors weren't meant to be Tommy or anybody else."
Let's give it up for "Honey" - the Ultimate Fan Favorite Mariah Carey Video!

It seemed like a good time to check in on the oldies that are selling best in the digital era (An oldie is any song that was first released prior to January 2000.)
These 40 songs are the oldies that have, in a very real sense, best stood the test of time. It doesn't matter how many weeks a song was #1, or how many Grammys it won, if, decades later, it ceases to command attention. These songs still have provable drawing power.

LA Reid to Host MCIIY Listening Party in NY on Oct. 20
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010, 2:06AM EDT
Mariah Carey's cat and mouse game–is she pregnant or just really enjoying lasagna?–may soon be over.
Invites have gone out for an October 20th listening session in New York for Carey's new holiday album, "Merry Christmas II You."
Island Def Jam chief L.A. Reid is hosting the event, and Carey will be there to meet and greet friends, family, and radio types.
Unless she's hidden, or a hologram, or sits behind a large pocket book all night, there are undoubtedly going to be questions. And maybe an answer. Recent pictures indicate that our lovely Mariah looks very little like the photo on the invite itself right now.
Remember: Mariah told us through her rep a few weeks ago that she was very "superstitious" about discussing such matters.
Meantime, Mariah's first single from the new album, "Oh Santa," is pretty catchy. Expect to hear it four times a day between Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Video: ET - Mariah & Nick at Lavo, New York
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 11-Oct-2010, 11:01PM EDT
No-show Mariah (New York Post) Mariah Carey was a no-show at the Los Angeles leg of hubby Nick Cannon's 30th birthday party. The diva did nothing to dispel pregnancy rumors by failing to show up at his Saturday night bash at Paramount Studios. That followed her behavior the night before at Lavo in New York, where she shunned her usual Champagne and covered up her fuller-looking figure with a coat. A source said, "She didn't eat a thing at the party, then ordered one of everything on the menu, plus two extra-cheese raviolis, to go. Then on Saturday, to everyone's surprise, she didn't appear." Her rep didn't get back to us.

On Friday night, the songstress, 40, hosted a 200-person 30th birthday bash for hubby Nick Cannon at LAVO New York, but tried to keep onlookers guessing as to whether there was a baby bump behind her black baby doll dress.
"She definitely looked big, but I couldn't tell if she was pregnant or not because the dress wasn't tight around her stomach," our spy dished.
She also didn't walk the red carpet — leaving a white tux-wearing Cannon to complete that task alone.
"For most of the night she was relatively low-key, hanging out with his mother and commenting to people that "it was his night" and she really wanted the spotlight to be on him," the source said.
Inside, guests — including Ne-Yo and "Saturday Night Live's" Jay Pharoah — chowed down on a four-course meal that included spinach-and-artichoke pizza, Chilean sea bass and birthday cake. During dinner, Carey surprised Cannon with a video filled with messages from Carey, Cannon's mom and friends including Ne-Yo, Sharon Osbourne and Russell Simmons.
When Cannon's mom saw herself on the video, she "started crying and Nick ran over to comfort her, even wiping away her tears with a napkin," our source said.

Top 20 in 20 Video Countdown: The Final Showdown
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 09-Oct-2010, 12:31AM EDT
And then there were two...
The moment has arrived! It's a fight for the title of Ultimate Fan Favorite Mariah Carey Video.
After four weeks of elimination rounds for our MDJ Readers' Top 20 in 20 Video countdown, it all comes down to this final showdown:
IN ONE CORNER, a music video to one of Mariah's most sensual songs. Co-directed by Mariah and Diane Martel, it shows Mariah in a limousine on a dark and rainy night. Eventually, Mariah gets out of her limo and into the rain to relieve her memories. Slant named it the 18th greatest music video of all time: "it finds the singer at her least artificial... Carey displays a stark innocence and authentic vulnerability. Shot in a seedy hotel room and a dark limousine, the gritty images did plenty to redeem the singer of her Ballad past."
IN THE OTHER CORNER, a music video which forever changed Mariah's public image. Directed by Paul Hunter and shot during the summer in Puerto Rico, it featured a scantily clad Mariah being held hostage inside of a huge mansion by three men, including an Italian hood played by actor Frank Sivero. After outsmarting her captors, she escaped by Jet Ski. There was media speculation that the plot of the video paralleled Mariah breaking free from her marriage, but she maintained that she was just having fun. "It's just a James Bond spoof!"
Let's get ready to rumble! Which video will come out on top? Only YOU can decide their fate. Vote now! Poll will close on Friday, October 15th at 11:59pm EST.
Below are the results of Round 4 of our Top 20 in 20 video countdown.
ROUND 4 RESULTS 1. The Roof - 3,928 2. Honey - 3,888 Breakdown - 3,177 Heartbreaker - with Jay-Z - 2,571 We Belong Together - 2,341 Total Votes: 15,905

"Oh Santa!" to Premiere at Taiwanese Radio Tonight
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 06-Oct-2010, 1:24PM EDT
Below is a press release published today by Universal Music Taiwan officially announcing the release of Merry Christmas II You in Taiwan on Friday, November 5th. The first single from the album, "Oh Santa!" will premiere tonight, October 7th at 8:00pm on major Taiwanese radio stations. Also mentioned in the press release was the listening session for Merry Christmas II You held in late September in Singapore where Mariah gave a preview of some of the tracks to Universal Music VIPs and staff.
Just when the whole world is guessing whether she is pregnant and when everyone is forwarding the video where she fell on stage in Singapore, Mariah Carey has released a brand new Christmas song "Oh Santa!" Mariah will be releasing her second holiday album titled Merry Christmas II You on November 5. Her first Christmas album Merry Christmas has been the hottest selling CD every holiday season since its release in 1994 and it has already become one of the best selling Christmas albums of all time. The world has been anticipating the new holiday album and tonight (October 7), the first single from the album "Oh Santa!" will premiere in Taiwan at 8pm.
Christmas has always been Mariah's favorite festival. She released her first Christmas album Merry Christmas in 1994 and for 16 years since its release, it has been the best gift idea every holiday season and it has already sold 12 million worldwide. The first single from the album "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has also become a classic. Since the album has become so popular, Mariah has decided to record a brand new Christmas album and has invited her team who wrote the hits "We Belong Together" and "Don't Forget About Us" to work on the new album. Apart from 4 brand-new songs, she has also covered lots of classic holiday songs.
Mariah has been invited to perform for the F1 in Singapore on September 26. She slipped on stage and everyone thought she would be upset about it. However, she was not affected by the incident at all and decided to let the Universal Music staff listen to her new Christmas songs when she was there. When the record company learned about this, they decorated the studio into a Christmas-themed studio to welcome her. Mariah was very happy to introduce to them the new songs which even the people at the Universal headquarters in America have not listened to yet. She talked about the story behind each song. She said, "Asia is a very important place to me. It's like a second home to me and so I'll have to let Asia listen to my songs first." It shows how important Asia and this Christmas album are to her.
David LaChapelle is the photographer behind the album cover of Merry Christmas II You and it re-created the 1994 album cover. Mariah said, "This album is my gift to my fans and I hope you like it. And I hope you can listen to it for years to come." The first single "Oh Santa!" will premiere at radio stations in Taiwan tonight (October 7) at 8pm. All the major radio stations across Taiwan including ICRT, Hit Fm, i-Radio, POP Radio, UFO Radio, Best Radio, Asia FM, Gold Fm, M Radio, Super FM, Kiss Radio, etc. will premiere the song at the same time.

Tommy Mottola has reportedly signed a deal to write "The Last Starmaker," to be published in early 2012. According to a New York Post source, Mottola is ready to tell of his rise from The Bronx and New Rochelle as a mediocre singer dubbed T.D. Valentine to the head of Sony Music in its heyday, when he was discovering such stars as Shakira, Beyonce and Mariah Carey -- who soon became his wife. "The Last Starmaker," the source says, will also debunk the myth that Mottola was a jealous svengali over Carey.

Billboard editor Craig Marks talking about American Idol's sliding ratings: "Idol was built to create pop stars and divas. As the show became more about rock singer-songwriters than pop, it lost its way because the audience for those kind of singers is much smaller in the music world than it is for the big, glossy, Mariah Carey-type singers. They've got to get that schmaltzy pop thing back." TV Guide.
Actress Dot Jones, who plays the new football coach Shannon Beiste on Glee, mentions Mariah in an interview with E!: Coach Beiste was born after she ran into Glee co-executive producer Brad Falchuk at a Whole Foods about four months ago. "I said to him, 'I want to be on Glee. I love it,'" Jones remembers. "Brad goes, 'Can you sing?' And I said, 'Well, I'm not Mariah Carey, but I can carry a tune.'

Happy 15th Anniversary, Daydream!
Posted by Lynn on Sunday, 03-Oct-2010, 3:57PM EDT
On this day in music history. In 1995, with just five years in the music business, Mariah Carey had racked up 8 #1 singles and sold more than 26 million albums in the US and close to 60 million worldwide. With such commercial success you'd wonder: can she get any bigger? Mariah answered that question with a resounding 'Yes' with Daydream, an album which most artists could only "daydream" about commercially.
On October 3, 1995, Mariah's 5th album, Daydream debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 selling 224,000 copies in its first week. Daydream has eventually become Mariah's best selling album ever, and achieved a Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Worldwide, it remains one of the best-selling albums of all time, with sales of over 25 million copies.
Daydream spawned three #1 singles: "Fantasy," "One Sweet Day," and "Always Be My Baby", with the first two debuting straight to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. "One Sweet Day" made Mariah the only female artist to have two consecutive multi-platinum physical singles and the owner of the longest running #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the history of Billboard.
