Mariah Carey-Led Holiday Songs Chart Returns
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 29-Nov-2012, 7:00PM EST
Mariah Carey's 1994 classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You" tops the inaugural chart this season. (The carol led the list for four of the five weeks in which the tally was tabulated a year ago.) "Christmas" logged 20 million in radio audience in the current chart's tracking week, ranking at No. 6 on the Holiday Airplay ranking. It rules the Holiday Digital Songs chart with 27,000 downloads sold (up 112%).
While the overall chart points for "Christmas" leave it shy of the Hot 100's top 50 this week, should the song accrue enough points in upcoming weeks to rank in the Hot 100's upper half, it, or any holiday title regardless of age that reaches such a points level, would be eligible to rank on the Hot 100. Hot 100 rules were adjusted at the beginning of the 2012 chart year to include all titles regardless of age should they rank in the top 50; tracks by Whitney Houston benefitted from the adjustment following her February passing, with, most noticeably, her 1992-93 Hot 100 No. 1 "I Will Always Love You" returning and soaring to No. 3 in March.

MariahDailyJournal was in attendance at Mariah's performance for "Christmas in Rockefeller Center," which will air on Wednesday, November 28 at 8pm ET on NBC. Mariah looked stunning and was in excellent voice, performing the original version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again." She was in great spirit, joking with the fans and signing a few things at the end.
Mariah was supported by four backing singers (including Melonie Daniels) and eight young dancers, four boys and four girls.
Before Mariah came out, the dancers ran through their choreography of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" twice to a backing track.
Mariah was joined by Santa Claus at the end of her "All I Want For Christmas Is You" performances.
Mariah was laughing and joking with the fans in the audience, thanking them for braving the cold. At one point she broke into an impromptu rendition of "We Are Lambily" and she also sang a line from "Oh Santa."
Mariah was joined on-stage briefly by Randy Jackson before her second performance of "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again."
At the end of the taping, Mariah took a moment to sign autographs for some fans in the front of the stage. One fan asked her how dem babies are, and she said that they are good and that she wanted to bring them with her but it was too cold.

What's Nick Getting Mariah For Christmas?
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 26-Nov-2012, 10:06PM EST
Nick Cannon may not have picked out a Christmas gift just yet for Mariah Carey, but he knows where it will come from: his heart.
"It has to be more of a thoughtful thing; I have to put some thought into it," he tells Life & Style, after confirming that it won't be shoes or a bag - "She gets all of that stuff!"
"It will be something small," he continues. "It probably won't be a monetary thing."
Maybe it will be a gift for their adorable 1-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe?
"We are parents now; it's a whole different dynamic in the household," the America's Got Talent host says. "It solidifies what a family is all about."
Though she's been spending lots of time with her family, his superstar wife does have a new gig coming up: judging the season 12 of American Idol.
"I think the whole thing is going to be an experience that unfolds each day," the singer says about working with fellow judges Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowel
We can't wait to see what Mariah gets for Christmas - and make sure you watch her on the Idol premiere on Jan. 16!
New Idol Promo Puts Mariah Front and Center

Viewers watching last night's X Factor were treated to another look at the upcoming season of American Idol with a new promotional spot featuring Mariah Carey.
The commercial plays into the recurring theme of dreams coming true, with Carey talking directly to the camera about her humble beginnings and how she relates to the struggles of young hopefuls trying to make it in the music industry.
"I didn't have a show like Idol," said the superstar judge. "I waitressed and did all these other things I hear a lot of the contestants talk about doing.
Carey empathizes with young singers in the ad, and discusses how she "always sang" and "wrote" and that people can't give up on their ambitions or their dreams.
The few snippets shown of Carey as a judge portray her as extremely warm, with the Grammy-winning artist telling one singer "I know people are going to love you" and tearing up over another's performance.
"I felt every single word you sang," she tells another jubilant vocalist.

Behind The Scenes of Idol With Seacrest & Judges
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 19-Nov-2012, 9:39PM EST
Ready for American Idol's new season, but hate waiting until January for it to premiere? Then you're in luck, because Ryan Seacrest is taking us on an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new season with the all-star judging panel: Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson.
The host with the most talks with the judges about the talent they've seen come through after a long road trip of Idol auditions, and it's pretty clear that this season will be very special.
"I think there were some incredibly talented people. And it's going to be tough," Carey says. When Ryan asked if they think they got all the talent they need, the legendary singer scoffed and insisted they have "triple" what they need.
With loads of talent but only so many spots open to make it to the Idol stage in Los Angeles, the judges know they have their work cut out for them.
"It's going to be hard to get to Hollywood week and let so many people go," Urban says in his adorable Australian accent.
Veteran judge Jackson adds: "You're going to see a lot of [your favorites] soar, and a lot of them fall apart."
For the newbies on the judging panel, it's been an adjustment to get used to the Idol machine, to say the least. "Day one, it's like getting used to what this is. This is like a very new, different, wild interesting new school," Jackson says, which was followed by Carey giving a knowing laugh in agreement.
"Wild. Period," she insists.

Nick Cannon Talks Mariah, Twins With Parade Magazine
Posted by Jonny on Sunday, 18-Nov-2012, 1:01AM EST
This year had a rocky start for Nick Cannon, 32, who faced kidney failure in January and a diagnosis with a lupus-like, autoimmune disease in March.
But the America's Got Talent host has more than bounced back, focusing on family life with wife Mariah Carey and 18-month-old twins Monroe and Morrocan - all while juggling a host of new projects. On Nov. 19, Cannon will host the TeenNick HALO Awards, a ceremony he founded to honor philanthropic teens. Plus, news of an upcoming revival of his MTV comedy show, Wild 'N Out, made headlines this week, along with news of a forthcoming sequel to his breakout 2002 film, Drumline.
The star talked to PARADE about family, his health, and the famous fight between Carey and fellow American Idol judge Nicki Minaj.
On helping Carey handle her feud with Minaj. "I don't need to give her any advice, because my wife is the strongest and classiest woman I've ever met. She knows how to handle herself extremely well."
On balancing family life with a busy schedule. "Family comes first. That's really what it is, and then everything else kind of works around that. As long as we prioritize and make sure our kids and each other are first, then our occupations come after that, even though we're extremely busy. We take the time out to make sure we focus on each other when we need to."
On who the twins are growing up to be like: him or Carey. "We've got two, so I think we kind of got a little bit of each of us. My daughter is probably more like me, and my son is more like my wife in certain areas. But then obviously, my daughter is definitely into feminine, prissy, glamorous things like her mother."
Nick Cannon: Mariah/Nicki Idol Duet, Halo Awards?
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 16-Nov-2012, 9:09PM EST
Nicki Minaj isn't the only one who thinks that a duet with Mariah Carey on American Idol would make for great TV.
Carey's hubby Nick Cannon says he could see the two new judges hitting the Idol stage together.
"I'm pretty sure they could figure that out," Cannon told us while promoting tomorrow night's TeenNick HALO Awards (airing Monday at 8 p.m. on Nickleodeon) in Hollywood. "They could definitely do that. Why not? People love that stuff."
Nicki or not, Cannon says Carey will most definitely be performing at one point on the hit Fox reality show.
"She got a new album coming out," he dished. "I'm pretty sure they'll figure that out. That's probably part of the whole thing, she's going to get out there and promote her new music."
The 32-year-old can't wait to see his wife as a judge when Idol premieres. "I think it's all about the opportunity for people to see Mariah for who she really is," he gushed. "You'll get to see how intelligent she is. You'll get to see how witty, and her great sense of humor. Also, her nurturing spirit and wanting to help all these young people accomplish their dreams."
Cannon says Carey will also most likely be at tomorrow's taping of the TeenNick HALO Awards, which honors teens for their commitment to public service and charity work. Giving back is something he's passing along to his and Carey's twins, Morrocan and Monroe.
"I was always taught to whom much is given, much is required," he said. "I instill those same things into my children."
And just in time for Thanksgiving! As for who's cooking the Turkey Day dinner next week, Cannon laughed, "Mariah does most of the cooking. She'll be doing that."
American Idol Judges Are All Smiles in New Image
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 16-Nov-2012, 3:59PM EST
It's a wrap! American Idol's new judging panel just finished auditions for Season 12, and viewers will see which contestants earned golden tickets when the show debuts in exactly two months.
A Fox rep confirms that judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, along with returning judge Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest, completed the last round of auditions on Wednesday and Thursday aboard the Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach, Calif.
Next up for the judges - who are all smiles alongside Seacrest in an exclusive new Idol photo - is Hollywood Week, when they will whittle down the contestant pool to determine which singers will move on to the live shows.
Despite an on-set spat between Carey and Minaj during auditions in Charlotte, N.C., in early October, the judges have been getting along well during this latest round.
"Mariah and Nicki sat next to each other yesterday," an Idol source said Thursday. "There really is some great chemistry among all the judges."
The new panel has been working long hours, adds the source, but "they've found what they think is some seriously superstar talent out there."
The Long Beach set had its fill of special, expressive moments too, such as when an 8-year-old girl showed up dressed like Minaj - complete with a pink and blue wig - to support her auditioning aunt.
"Nicki told her she loved her color palette and talked to her about how important it is stay in school," says the source. "The little girl sang 'Starships' for Nicki, who let the girl and her brother sit on her lap for the audition. It was really cute."
The new season of Idol makes its debut over two nights, on Jan. 16 and 17.

This week, Billboard counts down the "biggest #2 hits ever" - the top 40 Hot 100 songs to not hit #1. Mariah makes this list with "Shake It Off," which spent 6 weeks at #2, peaking on September 10, 2005. The #1 single that week was "We Belong Together." This was only the fifth time in chart history that the same artist occupied the top 2 spots on the Hot 100. See the complete list here.

NBC will celebrate the lighting of the world's most famous Christmas tree with a live broadcast from Rockefeller Center in New York City on Wednesday, November 28 (8-9 p.m. ET). The star-studded holiday special will feature performances from Trace Adkins, Mariah Carey, CeeLo Green (NBC's "The Voice"), Victoria Justice, Chris Mann, Rod Stewart and Il Volo, and special appearances by Billy Crystal and Bette Milder.

The Christmas tree gathering was enhanced in 1936 with the opening of the Rockefeller Plaza outdoor ice-skating pond. NBC-TV televised the tree lighting for the first time in 1951 on "The Kate Smith Show" and as part of the nationwide "Howdy Doody" television show from 1953-55.
Prior to this year's primetime telecast, there will be an additional live hour of the special from 7 to 8 p.m. (ET). Extend The New Year Cheer With Mariah Carey
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2012, 10:20AM EST
In their biggest entertainment coup yet, Jupiters Hotel & Casino will start 2013 on the ultimate high note presenting one of the best-selling female artists of all time, Mariah Carey, in association with UAE at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday January 1, 2013.
The exclusive New Year's Day event will be the first of only two Australian stops for the superstar, as she brings her "MARIAH CAREY LIVE" show to the Gold Coast for her first ever concert on the Glitter Strip and her first tour Down Under in 14 years.
It has been two years since Mariah Carey has wowed audiences from the stage and she has chosen the Gold Coast's home of entertainment, Jupiters Hotel & Casino, to present her first performance back.
While it may seem like a lot of "firsts" for the singer/songwriter/producer, Mariah Carey has well and truly established her status as an icon of the music industry with over 200 million album sales throughout her career which spans more than two decades.
Mariah Carey will deliver a dose of diva, belting out some of her biggest hits including "We Belong Together," "Dream Lover" and "Fantasy," with exciting support acts to be announced.
Jupiters Hotel & Casino Managing Director, Aaron Gomes, said the property was beyond thrilled to be able to bring Mariah Carey to the Gold Coast as the perfect way to celebrate the end of what has been an entertainment-packed year, and the start of an even brighter year ahead.
"It has been a stellar year of entertainment at Jupiters Hotel & Casino with the opening of our new $20 million redeveloped theatre, two spectacular stage shows and an enviable line-up of the biggest international and national acts," Mr Gomes said.
"High-profile artists are an essential component of the tourism offering for the Gold Coast and we are thrilled to be supporting the destination as a must-see holiday hot spot this festive season with Human Nature coming over from Las Vegas to perform two Christmas concerts in Jupiters Theatre and now Mariah Carey on New Year's Day at our sister-property across the footbridge.
"We remain committed to elevating the Gold Coast's reputation as an entertainment mecca and Mariah Carey will certainly take our offering to the next level and carry on a tremendous year of coups for the property and the region."
Mariah Carey exploded onto the music charts in 1990 with her self-titled debut album boasting an extraordinary four #1 singles, followed by the 1993 release of her most commercially successful album, "Music Box," selling an astounding 30 million copies.
Renowned for her five-octave vocal range, Mariah Carey became the second artist in history and the first female performer to have a song debut at #1 with smash-hit single "Fantasy." Her collaboration with Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day," was dubbed "90's Song Of The Decade" and remains the longest-running #1 song in US chart history with a record 16 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100. She also surpassed the long-standing record for most #1 singles by a solo artist, held by Elvis Presley, with her 18th Billboard #1 hit, "Touch My Body."
Mariah's long list of accolades includes five Grammy Awards, 17 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, an Academy Award for "Best Original Song" and 31 Billboard Music Awards, including honours for Billboard's "Artist of the Decade," the World Music Award for "World's Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium" and BMI's "Icon Award" just to name a few.
Today, the "songbird supreme" continues to define the modern pop performance, recently releasing the lead single from her forthcoming album, "Triumphant."

Nicki Minaj Sets Mariah Carey Feud Straight on E! Special
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 12-Nov-2012, 3:06PM EST
The second installation of Nicki Minaj's three-part E! special "My Truth" picks up on the set of her video shoot for "The Boys," but as the show progresses, the YMCMB rapper addresses the fallout from her "American Idol" feud with Mariah Carey, and specifically Barbara Walter's involvement in the beef.
When Nick first finds out that footage of the blowout has leaked, she explains to Mack Maine that the cameras did not capture the moments leading up to that, "20 minutes before that happened, she egged me on and I walked off - I stormed off the stage because didn't wanna do that," she told the Young Money president. "So I left and when I came back it was another jab."
"She's admitted that she did not want another female doing the show, thinking somebody's coming to steal her shine," Nick added. "And nitpicking, nitpicking, nitpicking - I don't do well with that passive aggress sh--. I'm not gonna allow it no more. I can't. I work and keep it moving, I don't even f--- with the people in this business."
Later, the subject comes up again during a private flight, after an episode of "The View" which found co-host Barbara Walters reporting that Carey had increased her security after Minaj threatened her life, calling the rapper "unpredictable." Nicki was unable to contain her disappointment with Walters for quickly taking sides.
"I really felt good when I left yesterday and then I hear that Mariah went to Barbara Walters with some more fabrication that even the producers told her was never said," she explained. "Telling Barbara I said something about a gun, which everybody knows that I'm way smarter than that. Literally my jaw was just hanging open and I was in shock. I've never in my life said anything regarding a gun."
Nicki reveals that she didn't want to speak out about the video immediately, in hopes that the controversy would blow over quickly, but no such luck.
"Am I not good enough for you to get my side, because I'm a little black girl that raps?" she said, addressing Walters directly. "Because if I was J. Lo, you would've called J. Lo's camp. But are we not good enough for you Barbara? 'Cause you wasn't even there when I was on the show Barbara. So I guess I'm not good enough but I'm only good enough for you to tell people I'm 'unpredictable,' when you don't f-----g know me?"
While the video clip seemed to suggest that there might've been some deep rooted beef between these two, Nicki maintains that she still respects Mariah tremendously. "Why would I wanna have a rift with someone I've looked up to my whole life? I've loved her and even told her that in the meeting. Actually I'm happy that Mariah's on the panel because I think that's a great thing. You've got one of the best singers than ever sang ever in the world. Ain't nothing wrong with that, but the fact that you had a problem with me being on there and that's why there's an issue."
In spite of all the accusations, Nicki reiterates that no one will run her off the show.

American Idol Contestants Audition for the Judges in OKC
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 09-Nov-2012, 10:36PM EST
OKLAHOMA CITY -- American Idol comes back to Oklahoma City. This time contestants auditioned in front of judges Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey.
"It's a once in a lifetime experience. I can't describe it. It's amazing," said Milena Laguerre of Midwest City.
In July, more than 10,000 people auditioned for producers at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. Four months later, less than one hundred are called back for final auditions at the Devon Boathouse.
Contestants lined the Oklahoma River with their families by their side waiting for their chance to perform for American Idol in front of their idols.
"It's kind of stressful to be honest with you," said Colin Marange of Norman.
"Just hopefully I don't puke," said Josh Woods of Sapulpa.
As contestants see the judges arrive, their gravity of their audition sets in.
Randy Jackson arrives first, "Wow, very windy man."
He's been a judge on the show since it began. "I hope we find an American Idol Winner here. C'mon Oklahoma!" said Jackson.
Country superstar, Keith Urban, blows in right behind him. We asked him what he thinks about Oklahoma City. Urban said, "I love it! I've played here a lot over the years."
This visit is different though. Now he's the audience. "There's no music, there's no audience, you stand there and sing acapello in front of the four of us, that's pretty nerve-racking," said Urban.
Judge number three, Nicki Minaj, offers some advice, "Think of us as your friends."
Minaj reminds contestants they're here to help, "They shouldn't be nervous. We're rooting for them."
As the fourth judge arrives, contestants turn back into fans. "Mariah's oh my God! It's Mariah Carey!" said Marange.
"I'm happy to be here and really to see all the young talent. They should just come in and be them and do the best they can," said Carey.
Season 12 of American Idol starts January 16th on FOX 25. In January, we will bring you exclusive behind the scenes footage of what Oklahoma contestants go through during the audition process.

Nicki Minaj: I'd Perform With Mariah Carey on Idol
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 08-Nov-2012, 7:05AM EST
The Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey drama on American Idol may make for good television, but that doesn't mean it's all bad blood between the two.
Minaj says she'd be up for performing with Carey on Idol.
"I would do that," Minaj told me this morning while promoting Nicki Minaj: My Truth, her new three-part reality special on E! "I think people would be interested in seeing that."

Mariah Carey Unveils Tribute Song to President Obama
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 07-Nov-2012, 12:09PM EST
Mariah Carey has impeccable timing - and not just because she's a musician.
Following President Barack Obama's historic reelection last night, the "Vision of Love" diva and Obama booster released a new song online paying poignant tribute to the commander in chief as he gears up for another term in office.
The tune, "Bring It on Home," is a slow-moving, soulful ballad that reflects the communal values the president espoused in his soaring acceptance speech and ever since he burst onto the national stage - the idea that America is a better, stronger and more perfect union when we care for our fellow neighbors.
"We just everyday people, tryin' to make it through the pain/Yet we intentionally hurt each other playing silly games," sings Carey in the opening verse. "But when it comes down to win or lose, don't give up the fight/cause strength is what we need and love can save our lives."
Premiere of New Mariah Song: "Bring It On Home"

Jermaine Dupri exclusively premiered a new Mariah song, "Bring It On Home," on his website, Global14.
"Bring It On Home" is the song Mariah wrote for President Barack Obama. Prior to this, the only time the song was ever heard was when she performed it live at a fundraiser for Obama in New York on June 14, 2012. Here is what Mariah had to say about the song at that time:
"Just finished performing... BRING IT ON HOME - a song I wrote especially for the Obama For America event at the Plaza in NY. Wishing I could put this out! "Strength is what we need and love keeps us alive..."

Vote For Mariah in the 2012 Pop Culture Election
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 06-Nov-2012, 7:52PM EST
Sometimes when it comes to voting, things get downright catty. Just ask new American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, both new additions to the singing competition and whose on-set, uh, "squabbling" will surely generate ratings galore.
As we the hours dwindle down to Mitt Romney and Barack Obama's election tonight, it's safe to assume that we got through this entire election without any diva fits. But forget about the POTUS hopefuls for a second, it's time to really pit Ms. Minaj and Ms. Carey against one another.
Because just like on Idol, only one over-the-top diva can win. So hold on to your horses, Keith Urban (Get it? 'Cause he's a cowboy), and watch your back, Randy Jackson, because the claws are coming out and the wigs might start flying.
On one hand, there's Nicki Minaj with her candy-colored hairdos, outrageous outfits showing off her even more outrageous curves and legions of loyal Barbz. Then there's Mariah Carey, Queen of the Lambs, with her infamous falsetto and dem babies. The choice is yours.

More Coverage: Mariah at Obama Rally in North Carolina

Matthew attended Michelle Obama's grassroots event in Charlotte, North Carolina, today and has very kindly shared some details and photos with MariahDailyJournal!
Before Mariah came out, Louise McNally came out for a few minutes to speak with someone. Then her security guard came out and was looking at the stage, speaking with someone about it.
Mariah came out in a short black leather jacket, a long, dark purple gown, and HIGH heels! She seemed surprised by the crowd and response. She smiled and waved at everyone as she walked up to the podium.
She gave a short speech (probably about 10 minutes) in support of the Obamas.
The microphones were not very loud and the crowd was very energetic, so it was tough to hear her. But she spoke on the Obamas being the first to know of her pregnancy and how she considers them good friends.
She encouraged everyone to "vote like their lives depend on it" and spoke on how with someone like Barack Obama as president, her kids will have a brighter future (some of the crowd yelled "Roc and Roe" and she laughed).
She also stated that women will not be viewed as "some special interest group" with Obama in office.
She wrapped up her speech by thanking Charlotte for welcoming her. As she walked off the stage she smiled and waved at the crowd and again seemed surprised by the response she was getting. The place was going nuts for her! She turned around one last time and waved before going behind the curtains.
Below are Matthew's photos from the event. He also took a short video of Mariah walking to the stage. Click here to view the video!
Mariah Speaks at Obama Rally

Earlier this afternoon, first lady Michelle Obama headlined an airport rally in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mariah spoke at the event, in support of President Barack Obama.
Ben Thompson, anchor and reporter for WCNC in Charlotte, recapped some highlights from Mariah's speech on his Twitter page:
During short speech, @mariahcarey said @BarackObama & @Michelleobama were 1st to know about her pregnancy. #ncpol #flotus
Never though I'd be tweeting what @mariahcarey says about the election. Says folks need to vote like "your life depended on it." #ncpol
Most pointed line of @mariahcarey's speech: President doesn't treat women like they're some special interest group. #ncpol #flotus
