Thalia Talks Mariah in New Autobiography
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 30-Dec-2011, 10:08PM EST
International superstar Thalia, who is currently married to Mariah's ex-husband Tommy Mottola, recently released her autobiography Growing Stronger. (Cada dia mas fuerte in Spanish) In it, she briefly talks about Mariah. Many thanks to Eric for sharing the text and translating it to English for us!
When they told Tommy that I was an actress and a singer, he almost left me there waiting at the restaurant. He got divorced from Mariah Carey just a couple of years before we met, and the last thing he had on his mind was to get involved with another singer, and even less with an actress. Even worse, a woman who didn't even speak his own language. But we were meant to be together. There was no way out. In fact, when I got to know he was Mariah Carey's ex husband, it made me laugh a little, because I didn't have a clue who he was until I got to know he was married to Mariah.
I always admired Mariah as a singer so much. In fact, I loved her music. She's a pioneer who marked a difference with her vocal range, and with her ballads specially, with her unique high notes that are so characteristic of her. And of course with Tommy Mottola as her manager, and president of her record label at that time, logically everything was on her side to become so famous. I still think she's a woman with a talent that deserves admiration. The biggest and most beautiful flowers that I received were the ones she sent when our daughter Sabrina was born.

Mariah Carey: My Son is the "Life of the Party"
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 26-Dec-2011, 11:09AM EST
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's twins, Moroccan and Monroe, are less than a year old, but according to the pop star, they're already relatable.
"It's so funny ... there's a picture of the two of us together and we look identical and we have the identical smile," Carey says in a new interview special, Mariah Carey: On The Record with Fuse, which airs Sunday (8 p.m ET). "I recognize the joy that's in him. There's something that was always free about me, it just got stifled as things grew in my career."
The slimmed-down singer adds that if you walked up to her son, whom she calls "the life of the party," he would "just smile and be your best friend."
As for adorable twin sister, Monroe, she's got a bright personality of her own, too.
"We have Miss Monroe Cannon- that's what I call her, Miss Monroe," Carey says. "She's very dainty and she holds her own bottle. She's Miss Independent, definitely Miss Independent."
Mariah's Contribution to "Pencils of Promise"

"A Hero Comes Along" by Mariah Carey
Hand-written in pencil, Mariah's contribution is a set of lyrics which own a place in music history. The first line of "that" chorus, five simple yet powerful words from one of her most cherished songs. These lyrics are from the song "Hero," which was written by Mariah. Be the hero that brings them to life in a whole new way, by having them help nurture the talents of children all over the world.
The Impact: This item will raise enough money to build a school that will educate seventy-five students in Ban Sanouk, Laos. Ban Sanouk hasn't had an update to their school in over seventy years, but that hasn't stopped them from teaching classes out of their old structure, homes and even outdoors. Help fifty-eight families by giving them the adequate resources for education.

Jasmine's Juice: Mariah in London
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 22-Dec-2011, 8:59PM EST
Its that time of year! Full of Christmas cheer and numerous Christmas parties to attend. this past 6 days alone I have had 3 work parties, dinners and cocktails, attended the very fabulous posh peoples puffa jacket party for designer Mon Clare at their Christmas cocktails evening, shook my booty at the Adidas EIM end of year bash at under the bridge at Stamford bridge, congratulated the Spirit of London ambassadors at the SOLA Christmas ball at the Mayfair Hotel.
So last week Mariah flew into town to attend Prince Azim's NOBLE GIFT GALA ball at the Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane. The Noble Gift Gala is an event that pays "tribute to those who help support and foster awareness for children and the empowerment of women around the world." Mariah was the guest of honour at the event and received the 2011 Noble Gift Humanitarian Award for her efforts in helping disadvantaged children. Mariah has generously donated her time and energy to a range of philanthropic causes near to her heart, including Save the Music and The Make-A-Wish Foundation. A tremendous supporter of children's charities, both domestic and international, Mariah, in partnership with the Fresh Air Fund founded Camp Mariah, a retreat for inner city children to explore career development. So you can see that Mariah's impact transcends the music industry to leave an indelible imprint upon the world at large.
On the Saturday morning Upon her arrival, MC was welcomed by a huge crowd of her fans outside the Dorchester who congratulated her on her new baby twins otherwise known as "dembabies" and sang her original Christmas tunes "All I Want For Christmas Is You," "Oh Santa," and "When Christmas Comes." MC spoke to the fans, signed autographs and even took pictures with the fan gifts later posted on her twitter. We hung out in her suite all afternoon and then made our way down to the red carpet where my favourite desperate housewife- Eva Longoria looked sweet in a long flowing purple gown and she bought along her boyfriend of 10 months, Eduardo Cruz, brother of Penelope Cruz. I also spotted legendary model Jerry Hall on our table who wore a knee length black dress and opted for flat shoes as she arrived with her husband Warwick Hemsley. Wealthy lady about town and new reality TV star Tamara Ecclestone arrived in an attention grabbing black sequined dress but none outshone our girl Mariah who was the guest of honour at the event and received the 2011 Noble Gift Humanitarian Award for her efforts in helping disadvantaged children. The event was held at the Dorchester Hotel and honoured Mariah Carey for her charity work. Proceeds went to Eva's charity-The Eva Longoria Fund and there were plenty of celebrities on hand to donate. We were treated to musical performances by Leona Lewis, Dionne Bromfield and a wonderful band and Mariah made a very heartfelt touching speech when awarded her award by Prince Azim. A great night!

Mariah Spotted Shopping In Aspen
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 19-Dec-2011, 6:49AM EST
Yep, it's cold out there: Mariah Carey swaps open-toe heels for winter boots during shopping trip in Aspen.
She's known for being a bit of a diva.
But an outfit change during a shopping trip is excessive even for her.
So it can only be that Mariah Carey misjudged the freezing weather conditions in Aspen, Colorado, yesterday when she stepped out in open-toe heels and bare legs.
The singer was spotted doing some last minute shopping in Prada ahead of her first Christmas with eight-month-old twins Monroe and Moroccan.
She had started the spree with a black winter jacket that flapped open to reveal a bare chest.
But later the 41-year-old had changed into more seasonable winter boots and a floppy hat.
The singer and husband Nick Cannon usually go to Aspen for Christmas but didn't last year due to fears the high altitude may interfere with her pregnancy.
She still went away because she has to be somewhere with snow at Christmas.
"It's got to be snowy," she said at the time.
"I was considering staying in LA because we love it, but it's not the most seasonal of places. I need snow."
Mariah is in great shape after shedding more than 70 lbs since the birth of her children.
The "All I Want For Christmas" singer showed off her curvy body in London earlier this month.

Mariah "Humbled" By Song's Longetivity
Posted by Jonny on Saturday, 17-Dec-2011, 6:05PM EST
You can't go anywhere at the moment without a Christmas song blaring out.
But one being played more than any other is the Mariah Carey smash "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
Since it was first released in 1994, the classic track has spent more than 50 weeks in the UK Top 40 and sold millions of copies worldwide.
And that's before you factor in Mariah's new version with Justin Bieber along with Michael Buble's reworking of the hit on his No1 Christmas album.
Luckily she doesn't get sick of the song as she is a massive fan of Christmas- and not just because it signals another huge payday.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Mariah, 41, said: "I start planning my Christmas in June.
"It's absolutely my favourite holiday and I've always loved everything about this time of year. I love cooking and I'm a smash-hit wonder in the kitchen.
"I'm going to be making the turkey, cranberry sauce and all the trimmings this Christmas. I cooked at Thanksgiving and it was a real success with everyone asking for seconds."
Mariah's love of festive anthems, including Bing Crosby's White Christmas, led her to write "All I Want."
And even she is surprised by its lasting appeal.
She said: "I'm amazed and humbled by its popularity, even all these years later. And I think it's great that people have the song as a ringtone.
"Who'd have thought, all those years ago when I wrote it, that it would still be having an impact today?"
This year the song has been kept in our heads- and charts- by the star's duet with teen sensation Justin Bieber who has released a Christmas album of his own this year.
It was a no-brainer for Mariah to work with him as it introduced an army of young Beliebers to her famous Crimbo track.
She said: "Justin's definitely a young phenomenon- fun, cute and very talented. That's why I wanted to work with him."
But it's not just pop stars who have added to the song's popularity this year.
Earlier this month sailors on the HMS Ocean warship uploaded a video of themselves miming to the track to celebrate their return home after serving seven-and-a-half months in Libya. The ship initially set off on a seven-week training exercise before being diverted to support the UN air mission during the uprising against Colonel Gaddafi. The now-famous sailors returned home last week.
Their video went viral on YouTube scoring the heroes over 2.5 million views.
Even an impressed Mariah is a fan of the clip.
She tweeted: "This is the best thing I've ever seen, you guys just made my day!"
She told us: "I love their take on it. I think it's the cutest thing ever. Very good lip-synching too.
"If I'd had more time, I would have liked to have gone down to Plymouth to meet the singing sailors and their families.
"Sadly, my trip to London is so short, I just don't have time. But I'm very glad that they've all made it home for Christmas." Mum-of-two Mariah, who has sold more than 200million records in the last 20 years, will spend the festive period with friends and family in snowy Aspen, Colorado.
Mariah, who has been married to TV presenter Nick Cannon, 31, for three years, said: "Luckily Nick is almost as over-the-top festive as me. One year we hired Santa Claus to come round with real reindeer who looked as if they were going to fly off into the snow at any moment. Everyone loved it."
This year the couple will spend their first Christmas with their eight-month-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan.
Monroe is named after superstar Marilyn and her brother's name comes from the Moroccan Room in Mariah's apartment where Nick proposed to her.
The children feature in the video for her new single When Christmas Comes, which is a duet with John Legend. She said: "I actually wrote that song when I was pregnant. There's a line in it that says, 'We can laugh together as the children play'. So it was special having the twins with me for the recording of the video."
During her pregnancy Mariah regularly posted pictures of her huge baby bump online and kept her fans updated about "dem babies" as she refers to them.
She explained: "I had a tough pregnancy. Because I was carrying twins, I was super-heavy and I think my bones just weren't used to holding up that much weight.
"I don't think I understood the enormity or the magnitude of what being pregnant does to your body. By the end I could hardly walk.
"But I don't want to dwell on that really, or sound as if I'm complaining, because I know I'm very blessed. I'm loving motherhood. It's a beautiful place to be and they're very good kids." Mariah credits her own mother, Patricia, for getting her interested in singing when she was a toddler.
The pair sang a duet last year, "O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus," which was released last year on Mariah's second festive album, Merry Christmas II You.
And she hopes she can pass a love of singing on to her kids, too.
She said: "I started singing at home with my mom when I was four. I've always talked about her influence on me for my whole life. And with our duet, I felt as if we had come full circle.
"I certainly can imagine singing with the children round the tree when they're older because they really respond to music and love me to sing to them.
"And I do feel that musical ability is something that's handed down. We shall see."
Mariah has quickly shed her baby weight and credits the Jenny Craig Diet Plan- a company which ships special healthy ready meals to you- for helping her to slim down.
She said: "I had a lot of weight to lose because I'd retained so much water. Someone recommended the "Jenny" programme to me and it was exactly what I was looking for.
"It's quick but also very nutritious. I also did gentle aqua exercise as often as I could."
Mariah was so impressed with the "Jenny diet" she has become its US ambassador.
She said: "I wanted to help create awareness about healthy eating and losing weight. My pregnancy and weight gain made me realise what some women grapple with all their lives. At one point I thought I would never see my bone structure again."
Mariah was in London to pick up a Noble Gift Humanitarian Award for her charity work.
The singer said: "Several years ago I co-founded Camp Mariah, which is part of the Fresh Air Fund. This enables inner-city kids to look at their educational and career opportunities while enjoying camping adventures outside of the city.
"I'm planning on going camping with the kids again next summer."
Mariah Chats With UK's "X-Factor"
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 14-Dec-2011, 5:00PM EST
Excuse us; we're still in state of shock! Megastar Mariah Carey has just been in touch to talk about "The X Factor," Justin Bieber and the secrets to her success. As one of the best-selling music artists of all time, she's sold in excess of 200 million records, Mariah Carey is perfectly poised to offer advice to our "X Factor 2011" winners Little Mix. Here's what the musical icon had to say:
As one of the most successful artists of all time, what advice do you have for Little Mix? My best advice for them is to know who they really are as artists and embrace it, write their own songs, tour, and always stay in touch with their fans.
Did you enjoy appearing on "The X Factor" back in 2009? I loved being on "The X Factor UK!" The crowd was very energetic but I just hoped Simon wouldn't try and judge me, ha ha!
You're also friends with Simon Cowell- what's he like? In real life, Simon's a lot of fun to hang out with! I think he is a great person and a genius when it comes to recognising talent. I think he's actually different than his TV personality- he's not as mean as they think he is! He's very thoughtful and cares a lot about his artists.
What's the secret to your phenomenal success? I am so grateful for all the success I have but honestly, success to me is more than just numbers. I'm just happy to be able to do what I love for living as a songwriter as well as a singer and to be able to inspire people. I think the secret is staying true to yourself as an artist and never letting go of your inner child.
How will you be spending Christmas? Nick and I are so excited for our first Christmas with the babies, even though they're not gonna know what's going on, ha ha! We will be spending Christmas in Aspen this year which is very exciting because last year I wasn't able to go due to the fact I was pregnant with twins, obviously!
Can you tell us more about your collaboration with John Legend? I wrote "When Christmas Comes" with James Poyser of The Roots, we worked together on The Emancipation of Mimi and John had also done an entire album with The Roots. I was really glad when John said he was thinking about doing a Christmas album too so it was perfect for us to do this song together.
And how did your duet with Justin Bieber come about? The duet with Justin was for my song "All I Want For Christmas Is You". I was really surprised when he wanted to do a duet with me but it made sense because it was for Christmas and to me at Christmas time, unique collaborations are common place historically. I think the fans felt it was fun to have a new take on the song with him. He's such a nice guy, I'm really happy for him and all his success.
Mariah Carey has two singles out for the festive season, which are available now, "When Christmas Comes" a duet with John Legend (Available digitally) and "All I Want For Christmas Is You (SuperFestive!)" a duet with Justin Bieber (Available on Justin Bieber's album Under The Mistletoe.) Mariah's two Christmas albums are Merry Christmas and Merry Christmas II You.

Mariah Outdoes Mariah on Billboard AC Chart
Posted by Jonny on Sunday, 11-Dec-2011, 8:19PM EST
A VERY SHE & HIM "CHRISTMAS": Justin Bieber celebrates the holiday season by scoring his first top 10s on a Billboard airplay chart, as two tracks from his holiday album "Under the Mistletoe" soar on Adult Contemporary.
Bieber's update of "All I Want for Christmas Is You," with Mariah Carey, dashes 11-4 and "Mistletoe" jingles 15-5. With the jump for "Want," the Island Def Jam labelmates outperform Carey's original version of the modern classic carol, which peaked at No. 6 the week of Jan. 7, 1995.
Among Billboard's airplay tallies, Bieber had previously peaked as high as No. 11 with "Baby" on the Rhythmic chart last year.
Carey, meanwhile, sends her first holiday title onto R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as "When Christmas Comes," with John Legend, debuts at No. 79. Carey first recorded the song (her 53rd entry on the ranking) solo on last year's "Merry Christmas II You."

BMI Holiday Countdown: "All I Want For Christmas Is You"
Posted by Jonny on Sunday, 11-Dec-2011, 12:36AM EST
Hall-decking, bell-jingling, holiday hysteria is upon us, and joining the party is so much more fun than grinching out on the sidelines. So count us in. Here at BMI, we're sharing eight of our favorite holiday songs- check back every Tuesday and Thursday on bmi.com until December 22, the week before Christmas.
Our first three songs debuted in the 1960s. The next entry in the countdown jumps ahead 30 years with Mariah Carey.
In the early 1990s, Mariah Carey was already well on her way to becoming the best-selling artist of the decade. With her powerful 5-octave vocal range and the finesse with which she scaled it, she was revered primarily as a singer and performer- not as a songwriter. But beginning with her career-launching debut album in 1990, Carey has co-written many of the songs that made her a superstar, including "Always Be My Baby," "Hero," "Vision of Love," "One Sweet Day," "I Don't Want to Cry," and "Dreamlover."
Released in 1993, "All I Want for Christmas is You" was also co-written and co-produced by Carey for her fourth studio album, Merry Christmas. The song is a slice of Christmas pop-soul perfection so infectious and heart-warming, it became an instant classic heard everywhere, every holiday season.
Merry Christmas has since sold more than 15 million copies around the world, and "All I Want for Christmas is You" is one of the best-selling holiday songs of all time, inescapable every Christmas in the U.S., Europe and Japan, and the first holiday ringtone to be certified double-platinum. From My Chemical Romance, Lady Antebellum and Michael Buble, to the cast of Glee and Justin Bieber- who made it a duet with Carey herself- a diverse and growing collection of artists have covered the tune. The New Yorker's Sasha Frere-Jones dubbed it "one of the few worthy modern additions to the holiday canon."
"All I Want for Christmas is You" starts off with 23-year-old Carey's trademark vocal command and then launches into a joyride that's sticky sweet as a candy cane but ingeniously constructed, echoing and updating the charm and passion and bittersweet hint of sorrow patented by the Ronettes and Darlene Love.
Carey released a remix of the hit last year on her Merry Christmas II You, which debuted atop the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart - only the second Christmas album ever to do so.

Mariah's Interview with Australia's "Hot 30 Countdown"
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 09-Dec-2011, 8:44PM EST
Check out audio and read a transcript from Mariah's interview with Matty and Maude on Australia's "Hot 30 Countdown" last night. Thanks to MariahDownUnder for capturing the audio!
Maude: The one and only Mariah Carey! Hello!
Mariah: How are you darling?
Matty: Very good! Thank you so much for coming on! You would not believe how many women and gay men in our office fainted when we said that we were having you on our show tonight!
MC: **laughs** Only the gay men fainted? Is everybody ok? Because we don't want anyone fainting!
Matty: No, no! We sorted them all out. They're all good.
MC: Have you not been feeding them there? What's going on, Matty? What's happening with that?
Maude: Oh no no! It's just that they haven't had their fix of Mariah Carey yet. You understand. Actually, speaking of, that: The new song with John Legend. We're loving that one!
MC: Thank you so much! It's a song that I wrote for Merry Christmas II You, my second Christmas album. I wrote it last year, so finally this year it was like, ok I had my babies, there's a little bit of time. Let's see if we can do this and get this done. And we did it, and the video's gonna be done very, very soon. We shot the video already.
Matty: And now having of course, two of your own kids for Christmas, and I know how much you love Christmas: Are you just gonna go Christmas overboard this year?
MC: Well I kind of have a feeling that Nick is already going Christmas overboard with presents for them, because he gets all these gadgets, like walkers with things that make all these noises, and I'm like "Can they just learn to walk on their own? Why do they need this?" I mean, please! I mean but it's so funny. I go overboard every year with me and my friends, so...
Maude: Look I'm not exactly proud of it, but I'm a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas.
Matty: I LOVE CHRISTMAS!
Maude: No, I just don't Mariah! And I want to ask you because I know you love Christmas so much: What have you done during Christmas and you kind of look at it and say Oooh I probably shouldn't have done that!
MC: Well if that's the case, then I did it a few years in a row. But I have actual live reindeer and Santa at the house. But you know, I know him, so that's different!
Matty: Oh you know THE Santa, right?
MC: Of course! Haven't you seen me in my videos?
Matty: Now you've also worked with another guy, and that song has been massive on the Hot 30 Countdown. The song you did with Justin Beiber. What was it like getting into the studio with him?
MC: You know, it was fun working with Justin. It was sort of like, I'm pretty sure it's the last song he did for his record and you know, he said he really liked the song and stuff like that, and he actually talked to Randy Jackson, who works with me in management now, that he wanted to do it. And I was like, "Are you guys sure that he wants to do this?" I don't know, it kind of seemed out of the blue and I was like, "OK, great!" It'd be cool because we'd be sort of giving a new life to the song, you know, cause I love, every year that song makes me feel festive and a lot of people tell me "Oh I love your Christmas music!" and blah blah blah, and it makes me really proud as a songwriter. And so the fact that he wanted to do it was really cool to me, so I was like, "Yay! Let's go!"
Matty: Now we know.. Look, Beiber's a little bit cheeky. And he has tried to hit on Rhianna in the past. He made that public.
Maude: We know he's got a girlfriend now, but did he try a little move on you?
Matty: I would have!
MC: *laughs* Oh my goodness! Now why would you even ask me that? Trying to create controversy and I already snip it out!
Matty: Oh come on Mariah! Get into the controversy spirit!

Mariah Is Thrilled With HMS Ocean's "Christmas" Video
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 06-Dec-2011, 11:49PM EST
Mariah Carey is thrilled with the men and women of Britain's Royal Navy after the crew of the HMS Ocean posted a music video set to Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
The sailors, some dressed in uniform, others dressed in only the Union Jack, sway back and forth and lip-synch to Carey's heavy-rotation Christmas tune.
The Ocean had planned to have a seven-week deployment this year, but was diverted to Libya and other operations and has been gone for 7 1/2 months. No wonder the crew is getting a little punchy.
On Twitter, Carey said, "This is the best thing I've ever seen, you guys just made my day! Happy Happy Christmas!!! x0x0 to the troops."
The Ocean will be returning home on Friday after 225 days away, with 176 of them at sea.
According to a series of statistics posted on YouTube along with the video, the 400 men and women on board (just under 900 during the ship's amphibious exercises) have traveled more than 40,000 miles, burned 6,000 tons of fuel and have seen five of their own get married. Yes, the troops were able to get back for their own weddings.
No doubt the troops are giddy about getting back for the holidays. Here's hoping they cover up. England is cold!

Mariah On New Album & Balancing Kids With Music
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 05-Dec-2011, 9:14PM EST
Seven months after giving birth to twins, Mariah Carey sat down with Touré to discuss life after children and the status of her as-yet-untitled 14th album. Taking multi-tasking to the next, prenatal level, Carey discussed one song she wrote while pregnant. "I was in so much pain. I was laying on this bed and we had a studio set up in the room," Carey said. "I want to get back in and get going. It's just right now, the music business goes on this hiatus and you have to get back in there in January." Translation: don't expect any more maternity leave from the singer in 2012.
"I have done one song that is like, I was pregnant when I was writing it. I was in so much pain. I was laying on, like, this bed and we had a studio set up in the room, and JD was there, and Randy Jackson was playing bass live, and it was just this whole moment and I love it a lot! I love it a lot! So I want to get back in and get going. It's just, right now everybody's- the music business, it's like, it goes on this, like, hiatus and then you gotta get back in there in January. But, this year been, having my babies and living my life. But I never let go of music and I think that's why my kids respond to music so much."
At Your Request: "All I Want For Christmas Is You"

Idolator recently launched "@Your Request," a video series that lets viewers request their favorite song to be played on the site, along with commentary and fun facts about the song.
Today's featured song is "All I Want For Christmas Is You":
The holidays are officially in full swing, and is there any music that provides a better soundtrack to decking the halls, trimming the tree or dusting off the old menorah than that of Mariah Carey? Thanks to today's fabulous requester, Mimi is the focus of our show once again. Below, watch as we breakdown a modern Christmas classic.
Today’s request of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” comes by way of @Mari_Maud who called Mariah the "Queen Of Christmas" — and she’s not exaggerating. This 1994 track took the new Jenny spokeswoman from pop star to full-blown entertainer — exactly the way her then label, Columbia Records, intended. The song has been warming hearts over the holidays for 17 years, becoming the 19th highest digital download ever of songs recorded prior to 2000. Not only has the perennial favorite been given the Justin Bieber "Superfestive" treatment, the Grammy winner has remixed the song twice herself!

Mariah Tops Billboard's New "Holiday Songs" Chart
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 02-Dec-2011, 11:06PM EST
Billboard this week launches its first-ever Hot 100-style ranking of seasonal favorites with the launch of the Holiday Songs chart. Like the Hot 100, the survey ranks tracks based on a formula blending airplay, download sales and streaming data as tracked by Nielsen Entertainment.
The 50-position chart will appear in print and on Billboard.com and Billboard.biz through the holiday season.
Topping its inaugural ranking is Mariah Carey's 1994 Christmas classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You." Carey's song also appears on the list at No. 33 in a rendition by Michael Buble that appears on his No. 1 Billboard 200 album "Christmas."
In previous years, Billboard's Holiday chart was based solely on radio airplay on adult contemporary (and a few adult top 40) stations, most of which made the switch to all or nearly all-Christmas music following Thanksgiving.
Because radio gravitates to the familiar, past Holiday Songs charts featured primarily classic Christmas tracks pre-dating this century. With the change in methodology to include downloads, streaming and airplay from all monitored radio stations, the reconfigured Holiday Songs survey presents a more balanced picture of new releases (Justin Bieber at No. 2) and traditional seasonal selections (Brenda Lee, Nat King Cole and Bobby Helms at Nos. 3-5, respectively).
