Things are heating up in our 8 Greatest Women In Pop Video Bracket Countdown Extravaganza! In round one, we pitted Lady Gaga against Madonna, Britney Spears against Rihanna, Katy Perry against Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Lopez against Beyonce. Thanks to your votes, the results are in -- and thereís some more than interesting stats to report.

In what was always going to be a controversial pairing, Lady Gaga managed to nix Madonna at the eleventh hour by a super tight margin ó Mother Monster finished the round with 51% of the vote while Queen Madge had 49%. In the same bracket, Britney Spears crushed Rihanna by the biggest margin of all the ladies, receiving a whopping 72% of the vote. So for round two itís Brits vs. Gaga -- will the veteran hold her own against avant-pop's biggest craze? Or are the Little Monsters too powerful a voting force to be reckoned with? New PSA for American Heart Association
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 21-Feb-2012, 8:02PM EST
Mariah Carey made a stunning transformation by losing 30 pounds after giving birth to twins last April and now she's showing off her incredible body in a new PSA promoting heart health!

The soulful diva teamed up with the American Heart Association to co-direct the PSA, in which Carey points out the sobering statistic that every 34 seconds someone suffers a heart attack. But she also urges viewers to seek out healthy living solutions like she did in order to lose the weight: "Every day there's hope. Get serious about your heart and your health."

The PSA coincides with this month's American Heart Month, which focuses on educating Americans about how eating healthier can help prevent weight-related conditions including heart disease and stroke.

Watch the video to also get a behind-the-scenes look Mariah's current commercial for Jenny Craig, which the music superstar credits for her dramatic weight loss.

Carey "Blends Into Background" at Houston Funeral
Posted by Jonny on Sunday, 19-Feb-2012, 12:31PM EST

They're two of the biggest stars in the world, but Oprah Winfrey and Mariah Carey made a conscious effort to blend into the congregation at Whitney Houston's 'going home' service.

Today was, after all, about one diva, and only diva only... and it was paramount that Whitney Elizabeth 'Nippy' Houston took centre-stage for the last time.

So mindful of their superstar statuses and the chaos that follows in their wake, Winfrey and Carey undertook every conceivable measure to retain a low-profile.

The talk show behemoth kept her head down as she entered the church in head-to-toe black, and Carey, a friend of the late star, went for an uncharacteristically muted look.

With her hair scraped back into a unfussy ponytail, ebony clothing covering every inch of her body and a pair of similarly blacked out glasses to hide her puffy eyes, the mother-of-two was virtually unrecognisable as she leaned on X Factor judge L.A Reid.

He was described as Whitney's "industry uncle," by Pat Houston, after she thanked Clive Davis for being a consistent father figure in the music business.

This unobtrusive tone was maintained throughout today's refreshingly uplifting and intimate proceedings.

Houston's A-list friends managed to honour their peer while not impinging on what was essentially a community church service, a way of returning Whitney back to her Baptist upbringing.

The celebrities who did speak or sing were those who had a link to this world.

Another Clive Davis protegee, Alicia Keys, sang "Send Me an Angel" after a few remarks about Whitney.

"We called each other Meema," Alicia recalled. "She was such a beautiful human being. Call you for no reason at all but just to say hi. And that's rare I think sometimes."

While Kevin Costner opened his 'expressions' about his old friend by explaining that the church was his 'secret bond' with Whitney.

With fondness Costner, 57, who raised a baptist in California, recalled how the pair would share stories of admonishments from parents for giggling in the pew, or in his case, drinking too much grape juice while pretending to be a cowboy in a bar.

He used his actorly rhetoric to immediately bring Whitney back into the room, as a young girl with high hopes, a strong voice and a highly- developed sense of mischief.

Costner said: 'The church was what we knew. It was our private bond. I can see her in my own mind running around here as a skinny little girl knowing everyone, everyone's business, knowing every inch of this place.'

I can also see her in trouble, too. Trying to use that beautiful smile, trying to talk her way out of it, and Cissy not having any of it,' he added.

Another luminary, who must dearly recall those days, is Whitney's cousin, the legendary Dionne Warwick, who took the helm for the entire service.

Stoically keeping her composure through, she introduced each speaker and singer.

Later, she read a poem to her cousin, who was 23 years her junior.

She also introduced the legendary Stevie Wonder, who sang an altered version of his song "Ribbon in the Sky."

He sang: "You will always be our ribbon in the sky. And angel from God's choir of love. Whitney an angel from the choir. From God's choir of love."

Stevie then performed "Love's in Need of Love Today," accompanied by the choir.

R. Kelly also performed, and was visibly distraught as he tried to get his late friend's "I Look to You" out without breaking down -- they recorded tracks together for her last album.

Cece Winans, Whitney's close friend, gave a stirring performance of "Don't Cry For Me"

The Grammy-award winning singer sang a duet with Whitney on the track "Count on Me" for the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack.

She then sang "Yes Jesus Loves Me" which was the final song that Whitney sang two days before her death.

Mariah Attends Whitney Houston Funeral
Posted by Jonny on Saturday, 18-Feb-2012, 2:20PM EST
Today, the life of Whitney Houston was celebrated at her funeral service at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Clive Davis, Kevin Costner, and Tyler Perry were among those paying tribute to the late superstar. The service included performances by Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly and Alicia Keys.

CNN reports that Mariah was in attendance, but does not indicate that Nick Cannon was with her. Last night, Nick told Access Hollywood: "We're definitely trying to figure out the scheduling right now, because I have to be here, working. But you know, we were friends so we'll definitely be there in some capacity, whether it's me and my wife, or my wife. We'll definitely be there to support the family and you know, give the best memorial we could possibly give."

Nick also told E! that Houston's death was tough on Mariah: "It was tough for many reasons," he said. "One, knowing how close my wife and Whitney were, and I was in the hospital during the time, and that's where we got the news. I was kinda in a life-threatening situation and then to see that, it was kind of bizarre and sad at the same time, but you know, it's part of life and it makes you step back and reflect and appreciate every day for what it is."

Nick Cannon Steps Down From Radio Show
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 17-Feb-2012, 12:59PM EST
The MariahDailyJournal staff would like to extend our thoughts and well wishes to the Cannon family, as Nick continues to recover from his recent health scare.

Please see below from CNN:

After a health scare in January, and another last week, involving blood clots in his lungs, Nick Cannon is easing up on his hectic schedule.

The "America's Got Talent" host (whose credits also include actor, DJ, radio personality and rapper) announced that he's stepping down from his post as host of the "Rollin' with Nick Cannon" show on New York's 92.3 radio station. Friday is his last day.

"A bitter sweet morning. I have to stop my radio show. Doctors orders," Cannon posted to his Twitter account Friday morning. "The Doctors found blood clots in my lungs and said if I don't slow down and stop working so hard then it's a wrap!"

Cannon said last month that he planned to slow down after he was hospitalized shortly after the New Year and treated for a "mild kidney failure."

When he returned to work two weeks following his health scare, he explained "mild kidney failure" meant that his kidneys weren't functioning properly, but that he was "back and feeling 100 percent."

A father of nine-month-old twins with Mariah Carey, Cannon told his radio audience at the time, "I was always [taught] the harder you work, the more you can accomplish, but because of this situation, I know that I don't need to go too hard."

But it seems he didn't back off the gas as much as he needed to. On Wednesday's radio show, Cannon explained that he'd been in the hospital over the weekend of February 10.

"It was quite serious, I didn't even know. I was actually trying to downplay it a lot, even in my own mind, and not go to the hospital because I was having a lot of pain in my back. I thought it was the typical kidney pain that I had been experiencing, but thought it was a little bit heightened," he said. "But I actually learned through going to the hospital and [taking] tons of tests, that I actually had two blood clots in my lungs. And because of the blood clots in my lungs, I also had an enlarged ventricle in my heart. The right side of my heart was enlarged."

As a result, Cannon says in a statement on 92.3's website Time to put the car in cruise control," Cannon posted to that "under doctor's orders, I have been asked to put my health first and cut back on some of my professional commitments in order to allow my body to get the rest that it needs to keep up with my multi-tasking schedule."

That means he'll no longer host the "Rollin'" morning show on 92.3, but he will still host his weekend show, "Cannon's Countdown."

"I guess I can't drive at 200 mph for the whole road trip, his Twitter account Friday. "Even Super Man had to sleep!"

Mariah Scans From South Africa
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 16-Feb-2012, 8:49PM EST
Thank you to Sieraaj for sharing these scans featuring Mariah in South Africa's #1 and #2 magazines, Huisgenoot and YOU.

KELLY ROWLAND showed off the current trend of colour-blocking in a pink dress and electric-blue heels at the annual BET Honours in Los Angeles. The singer recently revealed her former Destiny's Child bandmate, Beyonce
Knowles, who gave birth last month to daughter Blue Ivy, was doing great. "She's wonderful; she was born to be a mother," she gushed.

The event, which pays tribute to iconic African-Americans, saw MARIAH CAREY accepting the Entertainer Award from hubby-on-the-mend NICK CANNON and their son, MOROCCAN. The tyke's sister, Monroe, remained backstage. "We were both sewn into our dresses, so she couldn't make it out," Mimi jokingly told the audience.

Nick Cannon Hospitalized For Blood Clots
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 16-Feb-2012, 8:10PM EST
Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon was hospitalized for the fourth time in three months last week after suffering pain in his chest and right arm.

The America's Got Talent presenter was recently diagnosed with acute kidney failure after falling ill while on a post-Christmas family vacation in Aspen, Colorado. He subsequently underwent surgery in Los Angeles and returned for further treatment in January.

But Cannon had to seek doctors' help once again last Friday following another health crisis as a result of his busy work schedule between New York and Los Angeles.

This time, he was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and an enlarged ventricle in his heart.

He resumed his work commitments on Wednesday and has now opened up about his health struggles during a candid chat on his Big Apple radio show on Thursday.

Admitting it was "quite serious," he explained, "I was trying to downplay it a lot, even in my own mind.

"I travel a lot. Anyone who flies a lot can be a victim to getting blood clots because it can start in your legs or your lower back (from sitting for an extended period of time). That, on top of my previous condition (kidney failure) made me more prone to (getting blood clots). I couldn't sleep because I was in so much pain. I was having a lot of pain in my back."

Doctors have warned Cannon to cut back on his work schedule - and the father of twins is finally realizing that he needs to take better care of himself.

He said, "My doctor was saying that my work is going to kill me - and he's not joking. I think part of the reason why my health did kind of deteriorate was because I wasn't resting a lot and I was doing too much. I was overworking myself, working out too much.

"I always took a lot of pride in working so hard and never taking a day off. But I'm learning that it isn't the wisest thing all the time, especially being a new father. Not only wanting to spend more time with my children, but wanting to be there for my children."

Love Stinks: Billboard's 30 Biggest Heartbreak Hits
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 14-Feb-2012, 2:40PM EST
Not everyone equates Valentine's Day with red hearts and roses. For those that have not found cupid to be so kind, February 14 can be a reminder that sometimes, love really can suck. This fact has not been lost on pop musicians; for every whimsical song about love's dizzying highs, there's a woeful tune referencing its heartbreaking lows.

These are the 30 biggest heartbreak songs ever recorded. Ranked by their performance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from its inception in 1958 to Feb 11, 2012, each song is included based on its lyrical content. Every song celebrates the darker side of love: heartaches, breakups, lying, cheating, unhealthy obsessions and general relationship dysfunction. Crank up your computer and get ready for a good cry:

25."Love Takes Time"
Mariah Carey
1990
Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "Couldn't see that I was blind to let you go? / I can't escape the pain inside / Cause love takes time / I don't wanna be here, I don't wanna be here alone."

1."We Belong Together"
Mariah Carey
2005
Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "The pain reflected in this song ain't even half of what I'm feeling inside. / I need you, need you back in my life, baby. / We belong together."

Recap: Mariah at the BET Honors
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 14-Feb-2012, 12:44AM EST
Check out highlights from the BET Honors, where Mariah was presented by her husband, Nick Cannon, and son, Moroccan Scott Cannon, with the "Entertainer" Award.

Mariah's segment opened with a tribute from L.A. Reid:

Numbers, numbers, numbers. Let's do those first: 18 number one songs. A record 79 cumulative weeks in the pole position of Billboard's Hot 100 Chart. Over 200 million albms sold. You won't see that again from anybody, right? Now, numbers don't lie, but what numbers don't tell is the story of a young woman in her tireless pursuit to pursue her dream. And equally important: the work ethic, the determination, the vision to sustain those dreams. She has always had the "x-factor." Mariah Carey, yes!

This led into a video montage highlighting Mariah's career, including a statement from Sir Sidney Poitier:

To you, my dear friend Mariah, and BET as well, congratulations for further enlivening the world of music, without which human life would be considerably diminished.

From there, Kelly Rowland delivered an energetic performance of "Fantasy," to which Mariah enthusiastically sang along from the first row:

The voice of an angel! I remember when the first record came out. She ruled the charts with her not one, not two, not three, not four, but five octave range! She was and still is a pure vision of love. And I can't lie y'all- with the hair, the legs, I wanted to be just like her! Everybody get up and celebrate Mariah!

Mariah's godmother Patti Labelle was next up with a moving performance of "Hero."

Finally, see Mariah accepting the 2012 BET Honors Entertainer Award:

First of all, thank you God for the fact that I'm standing here tonight with my husband and our baby... I'm really and utterly humbled. I can't thank you enough, everybody. Oh my goodness! Patti you just murdered me, I'm on the floor! I was crying from the second you stepped on the stage! I'm so humbled to even be in the company of everybody who is receiving awards tonight, who is here in the audience, who is performing. Let me just thank you... To my incredible husband, who just by the way, out of the hospital two days, thank you Jesus! I'm so grateful. First of all, L.A. Reid- I can't go into a million, thanking people and then there's record company politics and whatnot, but thank you for being here tonight! When people had written me off, he was there. And everybody who's been here and who didn't write me off- thank you, thank you so much! The countless, countless people. Everybody, I love you, I appreciate you, I am blessed to be here! Radio, everybody, I know what you all do for me and all of us in this industry, to keep this industry alive! This is a dying industry, we know that, so we have to get creative and keep it going. Our music is a powerful American industry that I'm so proud to be a part of, and as always, I can not define them, but thank you from the bottom and the top of my heart to my unstoppable, infamous, amazing, a+mazing, fans for making me happen! Tonight is really a vision of love, God bless you!

While other artists were busy partying and enjoying the festivities of the 2012 Grammy Awards, a certain diva was focusing on her craft. Mariah Carey visited a voice and ear specialist in New York City last evening for a routine checkup.

Struggling to avoid the photographers, Carey was "heartbroken" by the recent passing of her friend and onetime collaborator Whitney Houston. The two singers were regularly compared to each other because of their massive vocal ranges and incredible control but maintained a private friendship away from the media spotlight.

Carey has been busy recording her new studio album with the help of Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, Big Jim Wright, Randy Jackson and several others. Yet, many wonder if she still has the vocal chops to dominate the music scene in the manner that she did during her early career.

If you have any doubts regarding Carey's vocal talent then watch the clip below where she playfully yet expertly belted "We Are Lambily" in the bathroom for her fans:

Good Morning America Appearance Postponed
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 13-Feb-2012, 5:44PM EST
Mariah's appearance on GMA, originally due to air live tomorrow, has been postponed. Mariah was scheduled to discuss the association between herself, Jenny Craig and the American Heart Association, and debut her new Public Service Announcement which she co-directed with Daniel Pearl.

A rep for Carey said: "Mariah is still mourning the death of her friend and collaborator Whitney Houston and thought it was too soon to appear on TV to discuss anything else."

Mariah's 1998 collaboration with Whitney Houston, "When You Believe", won an Academy Award for "Best Song" in 1999. Soon after she heard the tragic news of Whitney's passing, Mariah released a statement saying:

"Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney's family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth."

Remembering Whitney Houston
Posted by Jonny on Sunday, 12-Feb-2012, 4:45PM EST
MariahDailyJournal was saddened to hear of the death of one of music's greatest voices, Whitney Houston. Houston was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel yesterday afternoon.

Via Twitter last night, Mariah released the following statement regarding the death of her friend and colleague:

"Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney's family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth."

In the early 1990s, Mariah and Whitney were often painted by the press as arch-rivals. They put those rumors to rest in 1998, when they collaborated on "When You Believe," their powerhouse duet penned by Stephen Schwartz for the soundtrack of The Prince Of Egypt.

"I really enjoyed working with her, it was good. People think that there was some rivalry or whatever but when we got in the studio, we had a good time," Mariah explained regarding collaborating with Whitney.

Likewise, Whitney had nothing but good things to say: "We've never met or talked before. It was our first time working together. In the studio, we were laughing a lot and talking in between a song, we had a great time together. She's a vivid minded girl, she's a smart lady. I really like Mariah."

In 1998, Whitney and Mariah appeared on television together several times in promotion of their duet and their respective new albums: My Love Is Your Love and #1's. On September 10, 1998 the pair appeared on the MTV Video Music Awards to present the Best Male Video award. They essentially made light of their supposed rivalry by showing up in the same dress, but then improvising so as not to look exactly alike:

In addition, they hosted a television special for The Prince of Egypt on NBC, and sat down together with Oprah Winfrey, where they performed "When You Believe."

The last time Whitney and Mariah performed together was on the 1999 Academy Awards, where "When You Believe" won for Best Original Song.

Whitney Houston was an unstoppable force in the music industry in the 1980's and 1990's. Highlights of her phenomenal career include the monster hit "I Will Always Love You," her powerful performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" at the 1991 Super Bowl and her performances in the films The Bodyguard, Waiting To Exhale and The Preacher's Wife. Her impact on the music industry is undeniable and she will be missed.

Simon Cowell: Mariah is "Not on the List."
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2012, 9:39PM EST
Simon Cowell recently sat down with Extra to discuss the changes made for the second season of The X-Factor. In this interview, he confirms that Mariah is not in the running to replace any of the judges who have exited the show:

"No. She's not on the list [of potential judges], because I don't think Mariah would make that commitment. I really, really don't. You know, she just had kids. Like I said, you have to work five days a week on this show, and you've got to do all the traveling as well. So I'm just putting out that she will not be on the list. I adore her. I would love her, but you can't expect someone who's just had two kids, has got a record career, to make the kind of commitment you would need on this show."

Media Flashback: Rainbow Tour Live in Los Angeles
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 07-Feb-2012, 9:00AM EST

When Mariah released Rainbow in 1999, it had been over six years since she last toured the US. While Daydream and Butterfly took her live show to various places around the world, Mariah's stateside fans were eager to see her! On March 17, 2000, the North American leg of the Rainbow Tour kicked off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The last time Mariah had toured the USA, she stood on stage, sang her hit songs and that was it! This show was much different in contrast, featuring not only the songs everyone came to hear, but lots of costume changes, a "Miss Diva" pageant, a re-match with Bianca, and lots of festivity for the lambs, many of whom were seeing Mariah for the very first time. As Mariah put it: "This show is for you and I to have a good time!"

The Los Angeles show was chronicled in a special edition of MTV News 1515, which brought fans behind the scenes and on stage with Mariah.

Many fans have requested the Rainbow Tour. Today, we would like to bring you a video download of the MTV news special, and audio from the concert.

Randy Jackson: Mariah Carey Would Be "Amazing" Judge
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 03-Feb-2012, 9:02AM EST
So what did Randy Jackson have to say today when he talked to reporters in a press call?

Not much when it came to buzz about Mariah Carey being on Simon Cowel's short list of judges to replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherziner.

When asked if he thinks Carey would be a good judge for The X Factor?, Jackson said, "She'd be amazing. I mean, I manage her, so of course I'm going to say that. She'd be amazing."

So does the think Carey will join the show? "I don't know if that's ever going to happen," he said. "Look, Simon's one of the smartest people I know. I'm sure he he's got some very interesting ideas up his sleeve."

Would he have problems with his artist being on a rival show? "No, no, not at all. She's her own person. She can of course do whatever she wants and she always will do that," Jackson explained, adding, "Simon's one of my dearest friends in the world."

And so is Paula. But, he says, "I have not spoken to Paula" since she was fired.

"We texted back and forth. I'm sad to hear about what's going on with that show. All of those people are dear friends of mine."

Media Flashback #4: Music Box Tour: Live in Los Angeles
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 01-Feb-2012, 11:30PM EST
While her first two albums were massively successful, Mariah was criticized by some for being known as primarily a studio artist. She proved the naysayers wrong when she took the stage for 1992's MTV Unplugged, which was so popular that it spawned a home video, EP release, and a #1 single. By the time her third studio album was released in 1993, the public was ready to see Mariah live and up close! The Music Box Tour was a short venture, with just six shows spread out throughout the USA before Christmas.

The tour opened on November 3, 1993 at Florida's Miami Arena. The first show was slammed by the press, citing her lack of touring experience and bad stage presence. Those reviews were enough to make Mariah "lose (her) inhibitions" and knock the critics dead at the second show, just outside of Boston, MA, which Mariah still references as being the best show of that tour. Unfortunately, no home video or DVD was ever released from this tour, which featured a generous selection of hits from her first three albums as well as a cover of the SOS Band's "Just Be Good To Me."

Several fans wrote in asking for the Music Box Tour. While no video bootlegs exist, MariahDailyJournal would like to share audio from Mariah's show at the Universal Ampitheatre in Los Angeles on November 23, 1993.
