Mariah & Nick Making Big Plans For Anniversary
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 29-Mar-2012, 8:16PM EDT
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are planning a big celebration to mark their fifth wedding anniversary.
The couple exchanged vows on a beach in the Bahamas in 2008, and Cannon and Carey have renewed them every year.
But this April 30 is going to be extra special because it’ll be the pair’s first anniversary as parents to twins Moroccan and Monroe, who turn 1 on the same day.
Cannon tells Life & Style magazine, "It's a family day. We’ll celebrate with them during the day and just the two of us at night... We get married every year; it's our thing. I just have to keep doing it to make sure it’s real!"
And the TV personality/entrepreneur admits family time is so much more precious these days after he battled the autoimmune disease lupus nephritis earlier this year.
He adds, "It goes to show you how much things can change. In tough times, you lean on family."
MDJ Note: Mariah and Nick are actually celebrating their fourth wedding anniversary.
Brazilian fans, the MariahDailyJournal staff hope that you have a most festive time and we hope you will send us your photos and stories from the party!
Styleist: Mariah Carey's Style Evolution
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 28-Mar-2012, 5:17PM EDT
Here's my earliest memory of Mariah Carey: a head full of curls on the cover of her 1990 self-titled debut album. I was gifted the R&B record by my brother Daryl, who purchased it from a mail order CD club (anyone remember those?). By co-penning powerhouse ballads like "Vision of Love" and "I Don't Wanna Cry," Carey established herself as a vocal force to be reckoned with - and as an absolute icon of the '90s.
The New York-native's five-octave range has earned her countless honors, including Grammy, Billboard and World Music Awards. And while her initial venture into film with the 2001 rags-to-riches tale "Glitter" bombed, Carey bounced back as a nearly unrecognizable social worker in the 2009 drama "Precious," for which she picked up the Palm Springs International Film Festival Breakthrough Performance Award.
With a career spanning over two decades as a singer, songwriter, fragrance creator and Jenny Craig spokesmodel, the mother of fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan with husband Nick Cannon seems to have found her rhythm. In celebration of Carey's 42nd birthday on March 27th, we're taking a look back at the songbird's seductive style. Vote on all her looks in the slideshow below and check out her hair transformation over the years.

We love both of these divas ... this could be the toughest bracket yet!
Who do you think should win round 11 of our "Most Influential Woman in Pop" March Madness bracket? Vote below ... and check back on Thursday (March 29) to see the next two divas battling it out in round 12.

Rolling Stone: Ten Incredible Mariah Carey Performances
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 27-Mar-2012, 5:31PM EDT
Mariah Carey is one of the most gifted and influential R&B singers of her generation. Though she's best known for her multi-octave range and full-blast style, she is actually a versatile performer with total command over her incredible voice. Click through to watch some of Carey's finest performances, from the early days of her career up to the recent past.
Vision of Love Carey rocketed to fame with "Vision of Love," the first single from her debut album, in 1990. Looking back on this clip from her first appearance on Saturday Night Live, it's easy to see why she was basically an overnight success – she sings the tune with serene confidence, as if she's already been a star for years.
Can't Let Go Carey's performance of the ballad "Can't Let Go" on this episode of Soul Train from 1991 is so flawless that many viewers probably assumed she was lip-synching. Check out the back-up singers as she gets started – you can sense their fear of messing up in the presence of a singer of her caliber.
Emotions By the time Carey took the stage at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards, she had risen to the ranks of one of the best-selling musicians in the business. That swagger comes through in her performance of "Emotions," one of her most jubilant early hits.
I'll Be There Carey is arguably one of the few singers to top a vocal performance by Michael Jackson. Her rendition of the Jackson 5 ballad "I'll Be There" from her MTV Unplugged special is smooth, elegant and big-hearted.
Dreamlover Carey's upbeat tunes in the early Nineties were an ideal showcase for a bright, optimistic quality in her voice. Though she can belt the hell out of a ballad, her voice resonates more deeply when she's conveying giddy infatuation, as in this rendition of "Dreamlover" from the Arsenio Hall Show in 1993.
Fantasy Carey was an arena-packing star by the mid-Nineties. In this clip from her 1996 Daydream World Tour, the singer delivers an impeccable vocal performance while serving as the center of an elaborate production featuring dancers and an enormous stage.
Honey "Honey" marks the start of a new direction for Carey, with the singer wholeheartedly embracing the luxurious sound of late-Nineties mainstream hip-hop and moving away from vocal bombast. She's still showing off her incredible range but producing a lighter, softer sound.
Heartbreaker Carey successfully integrated hip-hop into her music by the late Nineties. In this performance of "Heartbreaker" at the European Music Awards in 1999, the singer effortlessly stays at the center of the song despite guest turns by the highly charismatic Missy Elliott and Da Brat.
We Belong Together Carey's career flagged through much of the early 2000s, but she made her big comeback with "We Belong Together," a killer single that showcased a new variation on her hip-hop-inflected R&B phrasing. This performance from Late Night with David Letterman starts off fairly mellow but climaxes with a mind-blowing sustained high note.
Touch My Body The Mariah Carey in this performance of "Touch My Body" on German television in 2008 is a world away from the woman who broke into pop culture in the early Nineties. Whereas she was once demure and sang like a gospel powerhouse, the modern Mariah is slick and chill. Of course, the smoothness is spiked with a bit of aggression, as she sings in this song "I will hunt you down" with a sly wink.
Billboard: Happy Birthday Mariah Carey, Chart Icon
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 27-Mar-2012, 11:26AM EDT
As Mariah Carey celebrates her 42nd birthday today, we've got the perfect present.
Here's a look back at the most notable chart records that Carey has set since she first graced a Billboard survey the week of June 2, 1990, when "Vision of Love" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
(We'd have gotten her a card, but it would've been too tough to list all her accomplishments on one).
With 18 Hot 100 leaders, Carey has totaled the most No. 1s by a female artist. Among all acts, she trails only the Beatles (20) for the most No. 1 songs in the chart's 53-year history.
Here is a listing of Carey's Hot 100 toppers:
1990, "Vision of Love" (four weeks at No. 1) 1990, "Love Takes Time" (three) 1991, "Someday" (two) 1991, "I Don't Wanna Cry" (two) 1991, "Emotions" (three) 1992, "I'll Be There" (two) 1993, "Dreamlover" (eight) 1993, "Hero" (four) 1995, "Fantasy" (eight) 1995, "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men (16) 1996, "Always Be My Baby" (two) 1997, "Honey" (three) 1998, "My All" (one) 1999, "Heartbreaker," featuring Jay-Z (two) 2000, "Thank God I Found You," featuring Joe & 98 Degrees (one) 2005, "We Belong Together" (14) 2005, "Don't Forget About Us" (two) 2008, "Touch My Body" (two)
Carey remains the only artist to send her first five Hot 100 entries to No. 1. She bested the mark of four consecutive career-opening leaders set by the Jackson 5 in 1970. The group's fourth No. 1, "I'll Be There," became Carey's sixth 22 years later.
Carey and the quintet were linked from the start: their second No. 1, "ABC," vaulted 14-6 on the Hot 100 the week after her birth.
With 16 weeks at No. 1, "One Sweet Day" holds the record for most weeks spent atop the Hot 100. Carey also ties for second-place with 14 weeks on top for "We Belong Together." (Boyz II Men, co-credited on "Day," boast a 14-week No. 1 of their own, 1994's "I'll Make Love to You".)
Carey has spent a record 79 weeks total atop the Hot 100. The Beatles are second with 59 cumulative frames in charge.
Considering the lengthy dominations of "Day" and "Together," it's not surprising that Carey claimed the top song of the '90s and '00s, respectively, when Billboard compiled the top titles of each decade.
Carey additionally earned the esteemed honor as Billboard's top artist of the '90s.
The superstar ranks as the best-selling female album artist dating to the advent of Nielsen SoundScan data in 1991. At 53.7 million, she trails only Garth Brooks (68.6 million) and the Beatles (63.5) among all artists.
Among women, Carey places ahead of Celine Dion (51.6), Shania Twain (34.1), Britney Spears (32.5) and Reba McEntire (30).
Carey is an artist for all seasons, as her 1994 carol "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the most-downloaded holiday song, according to SoundScan. The song has sold 2.1 million downloads. No other seasonal track has passed even 1 million in digital sales.

From Edwin: "Almost 2 years ago (September 2010), Mariah Carey fans from all around the world gathered in Singapore, Asia as she was about to have a concert for F1 Grand Prix Singapore. That time, we felt as one family and we call us as: "Mariah Carey - Team Asia." ... In commemoration with "3:27 Project" I flew to Singapore and gathered the "founders" of Mariah Carey - Team Asia: Syazwan, Rohaishah, Hairul, and Sam (picture Mariah 1). Too bad Sam didn't make it to be there but we have great time playing game: "Name That Tune," hit the karaoke, and definitely taking picture for 3:27 Project. Hopefully, in the future, "Mariah Carey - Team Asia" will stay together as a family ... Lambily."

Media Flashback: VH1 Benefits
Posted by Jonny on Sunday, 11-Mar-2012, 10:30PM EDT
Over the years, Mariah has been an avid supporter of VH1's Save The Music Foundation: a campaign to restore music education in schools and to raise awareness of the importance of music as part of every child's education. Since its inception in 1997, the Save The Music Foundation has provided $48 million in new musical instruments to 1,800 schools in more than 100 cities around the country.
In 1998, Mariah performed in the first-ever VH1 Divas Live, a benefit concert for the Save the Music Foundation. Also featuring Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Shania Twain, Carole King, and Aretha Franklin, the program was hugely successful and has since been released to DVD and CD, with proceeds benefiting the Save The Music Foundation. You can purchase the DVD from Amazon.
In 2000, Mariah appeared on VH1 Divas: A Tribute To Diana Ross. Opening the show with a never-before performed medley of "Heartbreaker" and Ross' "Love Hangover," she also performed "Can't Take That Away" and a medley of "Baby Love" and "Stop! In The Name Of Love" with Diana Ross.
Mariah returned to the VH1 stage in 2005 for Save The Music. The show was filmed during the same time Mariah was launching The Emancipation of Mimi and because of her busy schedule, she had to film her segments separately from the rest of the show. From New York's Beacon Theatre, Mariah performed for a very enthusiastic crowd of fans. Her performance of "It's Like That" opened the final telecast, which also featured performances from Josh Groban, Rob Thomas and Alicia Keys. She also performed with John Legend on a cover of the 1979 Billy Preston and Syreeta duet "With You I'm Born Again." Her duet of "I'll Be There" with Trey Lorenz closed the show. Mariah's "Forever Love Story" Winner
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 09-Mar-2012, 5:22PM EST
"Amber, your forever love story was inspiring, thank you so much to you and all who participated! --MC"
Read Amber's story below:
I have known Brett for years, and despite having our own lives, our paths always seem to cross. That’s a sign, right? We thought so! Brett and I got married in 2004, right before he was deployed to Iraq for 18 months. It was a long, scary and tough daily struggle, waiting by the phone for him to call and checking my mail box to see if he wrote. I can’t put into words how bad my heart hurt when I’d hear his voice over the static-filled phone lines amidst gunshots and bombs in the distance. We never had a honeymoon (unless you count our two day trip to NYC to see Mariah Carey ring in the New Year in 2008) because lives became too busy when he got home, and well, we became pregnant after our New Year’s Eve in NYC with baby number two! In 2009 we found out two pieces of news: Brett was to deploy to Kosovo for a 12 month tour AND we were pregnant with baby number three. Gratefully we were able to get Brett home for the birth of our baby, but he wasn’t able to stay when we found out our baby girl would need extended treatment in the NICU, which ended up being a 30 day ordeal. Despite the difficulty war and separation can have on a marriage, along with everything else, we have had no problem starting where we left off. For all we’ve been through, we can get through anything. Our love is forever!

"It doesn’t get much better than this," said Tourist Office Director Andreas Steibl. "We are proud and excited to announce this exceptional star for the closing concert of this exceptional winter season. Mariah Carey has a distinctive and powerful voice, which is perfect for the Top Of The Mountain concert."
Mariah Carey will perform on the specially constructed open air stage at 2320m at Idalp, the ski hub area of Ischgl in the Paznaun Valley, and is expected to draw a crowd of 20,000 skiers, boarders and fans.

Nick Cannon Recovery: Mariah Carey "Takes Care Of Me"
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 05-Mar-2012, 3:47PM EST
Nick Cannon couldn't be more upbeat about things right now.
Mariah Carey's significant other, who recently found himself in the hospital not once, but twice, as a result of a "lupus-type" autoimmune disorder, showed off his positive attitude during his appearance Monday on Good Morning America.
Not surprisingly, he's got one person in particular to thank for helping him on the road to recovery.
She's awesome. She's so nurturing," Cannon told GMA cohost Robin Roberts about his supportive and loving wife. "I call her Dr. Carey. She just takes care of me and makes sure I'm eating what I'm supposed to be eating."
The America's Got Talent host added that it's a side of Carey that the public never gets to see.
"They don't know she's at home making egg whites," he said with a laugh. "Taking two babies in one arm and grilling in the other."
The two babies, of course, are the couple's twins - Monroe and Moroccan - who, if you can believe it, will already be turning 1 next month.
And it's his kids that Cannon says were all he could think about during his health scare.
"In the hospital, that's the first thing that comes to your mind," he recalled. "I have to be around for my children and I have to be healthy for my children, so they're the motivation for the whole thing."
Benjamin: It's Like That: Great way to open the show! High energy, the crowd was so hyped! ... Mariah was amazing, hitting all the notes! Definitely the whole concert was 100% live, with a very well rested voice, and a high energy performance! :D Shake It Off: Mariah introduced the song saying something about, you lambs know this song, but I have never sang this version of the song... When it started I thought she was singing a new song from her next album.. but as she mention shake, shake, shake u off, I was then like omg!!!! Then it blended into the beginning of the original Shake It Off, making this performance unique with a new intro! :D Mariah Talk/Splash Interlude: You know Mariah is a Diva! She had someone come in with a splash, another with another pair of high heels, another one with make up and another one for her hair lol! Touch My Body: She was her usual sexy self and the performance was right on high energy and the vocals towards the were right on the note!!!! :D Obsessed: She definitely fooled the whole crowed as the Vision Of Love intro came in!!! The crowd went crazy!!! OMG OMG VISION OF LOVE!!!! And then suddenly ...."Why are you so obsessed with me?" oh, oh oh!!!!! the whole stage lit up with a blast of energy and obsessed was amazing! Always Be My Baby: To introduce the song she was like, "now this song is for DEM BABIES!" and she talked a lil bit about Monroe's diva character. She also shouted out to Nick, who was supposedly around as Mariah said herself, but she couldnt get a sight of him on the room lol The song was flawless, very emotional... she gleamed brightly like shinning star as she went thru the song! The vocals were right on!!! We Belong Together: omg! This was definitely the highlight of the night! She introduced the song with special, emotional thanks to the lambs for making this song #1 :D This is probably one of the best WBT performance ever!... Encore HERO: Of course, Mariah cannot not sing Hero! So after a very intense crowd cheer and lots of "Mariah, Mariah, Mariah!", she came back and sang her timeless classic! :D
Vinny: The concert was fun and Mariah looked beautiful and sounded great. I'd say the best performance was "I'll Be There." She sounded amazing and her banter with Trey was hilarious. She mentioned Michael during the performance too, singing "We miss you Michael" <3
The beginning of ABMB was funny because something happened where she I guess missed her cue to start singing, or someone else messed up or something. Whatever the case was, she started ranting over the music until they started the 1st verse LOL. She dedicated ABMB to the babies and said that the "you aaaand I" bit at the end was their favorite part of the song. She said that she considered bringing them to the show but it was too late and that wouldn't be good parenting LOL.
She did a lot of ranting.. it was entertaining. After ILT they shut all the lights and she ran over to get water from the side of the stage and they threw the spotlight on her and she goes "Ok, did I tell you to put the spotlight back on?" LMAO.
She also talked about the fact that people "made a drama" about this being "the first performance since dem babies" LOL.
Oh, and she mentioned that she recently did a new song with Jermaine that we will be hearing soon. From the way she said it, I took it as very soon... but who knows.
Of course, there was a diva make-up & hair moment along with a shoe change, as well.

Billboard: Mariah Carey Dazzles
Posted by Jonny on Saturday, 03-Mar-2012, 7:54PM EST
Just 10 months after giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe, a soulful and slender ("30 lbs [less] on Jenny Craig," according to her rep) Mariah Carey returned to the stage with a set at New York's Gotham Hall on Thursday night (Mar. 1). The performance was part of Caesar's Entertainment's "Escape To Total Rewards" launch event, which also featured performances by Lil Wayne, Maroon 5, Sara Bareilles and other artists simulcast from cities like Los Angeles, Chicago and New Orleans.
Backed by a full band and four more-than-game backup dancers, Mimi strutted across the stage in a tight black dress and clutched a diamond-encrusted microphone over the course of her 40-minute set. In between triumphant renditions of hits like "Always Be My Baby," "We Belong Together," "I'll Be There" and "Obsessed," Carey gave a shout-out to her husband Nick Cannon, who was in the building; got her makeup touched up onstage by a crack team of cosmetic specialists; and spoke candidly about Moroccan and Monroe, whom she referred to as "dem babies."
"Do I bring dem babies out?... They should be in bed!" she told the crowd. "I really wanted to bring them here tonight, but Monroe is sometimes shy and takes a while to warm up to an audience."
Nostalgia has a way of tugging at one's chords, emotionally and vocally. Last night, Mariah Carey blinded her loyal fans of their inability to professionally sing and ignore the consideration of those around them, singing along as if in their own private shower stalls. The highlight of the night came at the end of the show when Carey closed her set with her ballad, "Hero." All, femmes and men, forgot of the morning after's vocal repercussions and sang along from the top of their lungs.
Before Carey strolled onstage, Sean "Diddy" Combs delivered a scattershot performance to the New York crowd, rollicking through songs like "All About the Benjamins," "Mo' Money Mo' Problems" and "Coming Home." Former Spice Girls member Melanie Brown was on hand to serve as emcee at Gotham Hall.
Mariah Carey: "I Christen Thee Disney Fantasy"

All aboard: Singer Mariah Carey helped christen the new Disney cruise ship Fantasy at a Hudson River pier in Manhattan on Thursday night and promised to bring her twins back to enjoy some Disney hospitality.
"I christen thee Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it," said Carey as she stood with Disney's CEO Bob Iger, and of course, Mickey Mouse.
The ceremony was held inside the ship's atrium with a fake larger-than-life bottle of champagne that sprayed the room with shiny confetti. Carey's husband, Nick Cannon, stood on deck with a bottle of real champagne in the company of Minnie Mouse.
Earlier, Carey got a cheer from the crowd as she sang the line "I'm a native New Yorker," adding, "I'm going to love bringing my new babies here." Her twins were born less than a year ago.
At the event, Carey appeared alongside Jerry Seinfeld, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Ty Pennington and Tim Gunn.
The 4,000-passenger, 14-deck ship with its distinctive mouse ears logo arrived in New York on Tuesday after traveling nearly 3,800 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Bremerhaven, Germany. The ship, which was built in Papenburg, Germany, will sail on seven-night Caribbean cruises, starting March 31, from Port Canaveral, Fla.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mariah Carey made her return to the stage since giving birth to twins in diva-like form: She changed her shoes after singing two songs and touched up her hair and makeup in a sleek, sleeveless black dress, all in front of an eager audience.
Carey, who gave birth to fraternal twins via C-section in April, performed for a few hundred fans Thursday night at New York's Gotham Hall.
Of her return she said: "I didn't realize this was a big deal."
The Grammy winner sang a number of her hits during the short performance, from "Hero" to "We Belong Together" to the Jackson 5 cover "I'll Be There."
The concert was one of four shows Thursday dubbed "Plot Your Escape: Four Concerts. Countless Celebrities. 1 Epic Night," by Caesars Entertainment. Diddy was Carey's opening act in New York, while Lil Wayne and Cee Lo performed in Los Angeles, Maroon 5 and Sara Bareilles in Chicago, and Mary J. Blige and Gavin DeGraw in New Orleans. The concerts were part of Caesars Entertainment's rewards program.
The shows happened simultaneously and were streamed online.
"We can't do anything without it being documented," Carey told the audience. "Doesn't it freak you out at all?"
Carey said if her son Moroccan was onstage, he would probably beat-box, and that her daughter Monroe would be a diva.
The multiplatinum performer thanked her fans for being there and joked: "Catch me at my real show next time."

Mariah Named "Godmother" of Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship
Posted by Jonny on Friday, 02-Mar-2012, 6:15AM EST
The pop superstar and singer of the 1995 hit song "Fantasy" has been named godmother of the new Disney Cruise Line ship named, aptly, the Fantasy.
"I christen thee Disney Fantasy," she said. "May God bless this ship and all who sail on her." The role of a ship’s godmother is primarily bless the ship for the safety of its crew and passengers.
Carey gave birth to twins on April 30 last year and given her new mommy status, she seems a natural choice for the job as godmother of a Disney ship that will no doubt welcome countless families.
Disney is the parent company of ABC News.
Carey, who is married to actor and comedian Nick Cannon, is a native of New York, a connection she’ll share with the ship. The Fantasy is the first in the Disney fleet to be christened outside of Port Canaveral, Florida.
Other celebrities on hand for the festivities surrounding the ship’s christening were comedian Jerry Seinfeld and actor Neil Patrick Harris. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, was also on hand.
The 4,000-passenger ship arrived in New York City Tuesday and is the fourth ship in the Disney cruise line fleet. It bears significant resemblance to its sister ship, the Disney Dream, which took its maiden voyage on January 26, 2011.
The Fantasy, however, has a few new features, including new live shows, tweaks to the on-board restaurants and an alternating seven-night Western-and-Eastern Caribbean itinerary. (Disney Dream sails shorter itineraries in the Bahamas.)
Jennifer Hudson was the godmother of the Disney Dream, the last ship added to the fleet. Hudson got an early break in her career as a performer on the Disney Wonder in 2003, before she wowed audiences on American Idol.
The Fantasy will take its maiden voyage on March 31, from Port Canaveral.
