Mariah to Reunite With Afanassief??
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 20-Jun-2012, 10:56PM EDT
The name Walter Afanasieff is not a household name, which I've recently learned is a shame. I had never heard his name until yesterday, but after typing it into the Internet, learning that he was important enough to merit a Wikipedia page (no photo, though, so ... ), and reading that he worked with an impressive list of artists, it became clear that I needed to know more. He spent the 1980s recording with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston, and Patti LaBelle. But as his discography reached the '90s, there's one name that routinely appears over and over again: Mariah Carey.
The work that these two did together in a 10-year span is remarkable. Below, a short list of their collaborations:
While all of these are important, three of her biggest, most iconic songs are the ones that they wrote and/or produced together ("Hero," "One Sweet Day," "All I Want for Christmas Is You"). So there's no denying Afanasieff's influence on her career and music in general (he also produced The Bodyguard soundtrack and a little song called "My Heart Will Go On").
Why am I bringing all of this up in the middle of June, 2012? This tweet:
@jacobmemoirs I think you can spill the news ;) I'm too excited my father is finally going to be working with her again after 16 years!
Who is this? Answer: Isabella Afanasieff, daughter of Walter. The "her" in question? Mariah Carey.
Just scrolling through Isabella's Twitter account will probably make you wish you were incapable of the clicking motion, seeing that it screams, "Look at me, my dad is kind of famous, screw you for not believing that he's my dad, let your haters be your motivators #TeamBreezy." But it does seem like she's telling the truth. At the Internet's Grantland, we're not the biggest fans of unconfirmed rumors, but this is one we'll take the bait on, simply because it's just too important should it turn out to be true.
Is yet another Mariah reinvention under way, this time with the man who helped make her a timeless legend? Yes, please. I swear, Isabella, if you're making this up, be prepared to have 30 torch-wielding staff members at your door clutching copies of Emotions.
MDJ Note: This information has not been confirmed or denied by Mariah or anyone on her staff at this time.
MC: Summer 2012
Posted by Jonny on Monday, 18-Jun-2012, 8:59PM EDT
Earlier today, Mariah shared an image confirming that news is on the way soon!
Simply the words "MC: Summer 2012" have already created a huge buzz in the Mariah Carey fan community! What exactly is in store in the next couple of months? We don't know, and neither do you. But here's what we do know about what Mariah has been working on lately:
In January, Nick Cannon confirmed that Mariah returned to the studio to begin working on her new album: "She's rejuvenated and ready to start sharing some of the amazing new music she has been making in the studio!"
Shortly thereafter, DJ Clue indicated via Twitter that he will be a part of the new record: "@DJCLUE:She hit me yesterday about that..so Yes RT @ThiagoHonorato: @DJCLUE will you be working with Mariah in her new album? I hope so. :)"
Bryan Michael Cox is also involved with the project, as confirmed with photos of them in the studio together. In April, Mariah tweeted the photos with the enthusiastic caption "Break time at the studio with me, @Mr_Dupri and B. Cox.. giving you pip!"
Other confirmed collaborators on the new album include Randy Jackson and Loris Holland (Merry Christmas, "I Am Free"). Mariah tweeted a photo with them in the studio: "In the studio, recording w/ Randy Jackson, Loris Holland & some truly amazing musicians. Can't wait till u hear it,LYM!"
In May, Mariah announced that she has written and recorded a song called "Mesmerized" for the Lee Daniels film The Paperboy. It is not clear if this song will be on Mariah's new record, or released separately.
Shortly thereafter, Mariah took to her Twitter to share the following announcement: "Lambily! Got some nice new surprises coming your way soon! Shhhhhhh for now: ) "excitement!""
Also in May, DJ David Morales suggested via his Twitter that he may be collaborating with Mariah again: "@DJDavidMorales: Do I smell a new DM and MC collaboration??????" Since this tweet on May 24, nothing further has been said to confirm or deny this implication.
Last week, music consultant Joey Arbagey replied to a photo Mariah tweeted of him and her in the studio together. At first he simply said ""Let's get this pop club lamb party started!" and upon fan inquiries he further indicated that "i think you will love what's next from MC!... huge vocals is a understatement!... MC Summer 2012!"

Jill Zarin, Russell Simmons Hosting Mariah Charity Party
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 12-Jun-2012, 3:18PM EDT
Jill Zarin may no longer be welcome in the "Real Housewives of New York" gang, but that's okay - this former reality star is movin' on up. Now, Zarin is hanging with Mariah Carey.
"Bobby [Zarin] and I are proud to be co-chairing Russell Simmons' [Garden Party Gala] July 28th," Jill said in an email pre-invitation to her friends and big-money donors. "It will be at Russell's home in East Hampton, honoring Mariah Carey and incredible guest stars. It is the one event this summer you don't want to miss."
One of the highlights of the crowded summer social calendar, the annual event is a staple among the Hampton's elite. Dinner is served under a tent on Russell's back lawn, followed by a celebrity auction and star performance -this year, Carey will take the stage.
"It's an honor to be asked to co-chair this event," a friend of Russell's tells me. "You have to be able to deliver a special crowd that is willing to spend big money at the Art for Life charity."
This is the 13th annual Garden Party Gala. Last year's event raised a record-breaking $1.7 million and honored Mary J. Blige and Edward Norton, with a special performance by Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.

Designer Diary: Designer Wilfredo Rosado's Postcard from Morocco, Capri, and Monte Carlo
Before launching his namesake fine-jewelry line, designer Wilfredo Rosado worked as fashion director at Armani. It was during his time there that he struck up a friendship with Mariah Carey while he helped dress her for events (circa 1990, the same year her debut album, Mariah Carey, was released). They remain friends, and recently Carey invited Rosado and a few other pals to join her on a get-away to Morocco, Capri, and Monte Carlo. Here, Rosado shares his trip exclusively with Style.com.

Nick Cannon: Twins Taking Their First Steps
Posted by Jonny on Thursday, 07-Jun-2012, 2:17PM EDT
While his wife Mariah Carey has been photographed vacationing in Capri, Monaco and Morocco with their 13-month old twins Moroccan and Monroe, Nick Cannon stuck around to take the reins behind the camera - directing his first feature film.
But, he admits, it's very hard being away from his family, especially now that the twins have recently taken their first steps.
"I try to not go seven days without seeing them. I'll be with them this weekend," Cannon, 31, tells PEOPLE from the Norwalk, Calif., movie set of School Dance, a coming-of-age comedy that he co-wrote and is also producing.
"They are taking steps and figuring it out, but I wouldn't say they are walking yet," he says. "I thought walking was, like, one day you stand and then you just start walking. I didn't know it was a process. There's a lot of falling. They take a few steps and then fall and go right back to crawling."
So which twin will master their unassisted waddle first? It's either's game, says Dad. "Roc can balance himself a lot better. He can stand and bounce without falling for a long time. But Monroe takes more steps than he does."
Happily, after battling kidney failure, blood clots and autoimmune disease, Cannon's health is back on track. "The doctor says I am cured," says the America's Got Talent host.
His new diet, which required him to cut out fried and processed foods, along with proper rest and a 30-45 minute daily boxing workout, is pumping him with much needed energy - to chase his twins around the house.
Not that it's been easy adhering to his diet. "I had some salt 'n vinegar chips for the first time a week ago," he admits. "I was like, 'Man, these things have never tasted so good.' "
Still, he's stayed pretty disciplined thanks to his wife, whom Cannon calls Dr. Carey. "She made sure I was eating what I was supposed to be eating, not overdoing it, resting, and following the doctors' orders."
Even so, there is one order he still refuses to follow. Carey wishes he'd stop boxing. "It's still a big secret," he says kiddingly about getting back into the ring. "Don't tell her."
Jet-setting Twins: Mariah's Babies Stay Close
Posted by Jonny on Wednesday, 06-Jun-2012, 4:04PM EDT
She been totting up the air miles in the last two weeks as she has taken to the stage in Morocco, Italy and Monte-Carlo.
But despite her busy schedule, her babies have not been too far from Mariah Carey's side. And they became the centre of attention when she jetted into Nice in France today, with Monroe and Moroccan accompanying her.
The singer held her twins close as they arrived at Nice with her entourage. She was snapped with son Moroccan as she stood in the airport having just got off the plane before handing him to someone so she could have a cuddle with daughter Monroe. And even though she's been traveling from one place to another, Mariah looked chic and fresh as she arrived in the South of France.
The 42-year-old looked lovely in a black dress with a ballerina-style skirt which she teamed with towering black wedge sandals with a white trim. She had her hair tied up and tied to the top of her head away from her face and a member of her team couldn't resist tugging on it and playing with the knot.
It's unclear why Mariah is in the French city, possibly to have a family holiday or maybe she has a date booked in to perform.
At the end of last month, she took to the stage at the Mawazine International Music Festival in Morocco. Mariah and her clan then headed to Capri in Italy where she was booked in for a photo shoot but she was also able to enjoy some time out relaxing on the island.
Earlier this week she headed to Monte Carlo in Monaco for a performance at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club.
Only one person has been missing from the group and that is Mariah's husband Nick Cannon who is back in the US hosting the seventh series of America's Got Talent.
Skin Tips From Mariah's Dermatologist
Posted by Jonny on Tuesday, 05-Jun-2012, 5:30PM EDT
Skin feeling temperamental? Perhaps it's time to update your complexion-saving action plan by incorporating these celebrity dermatologist tips into your regimen. Below, Mariah Carey's pro, Dr. Bruce Katz, guides Us through it.
1. Remove residue with a powdered cleanser. Mix the gentle formula with water, and its minerals bond with skin to create a barrier against irritating makeup and dirt, says Katz. (Try e.l.f. Mineral Face Cleanser, $8 at eyeslipsface.com.)
2. Calm redness with botanicals. A toner with rose water "soothes to restore even coloring," says Katz. (Try Fresh Creme Ancienne Infusion Toner, $90 at fresh.com.)
3. Prime with a water-based serum. Used before moisturizer, the mild concentration helps drive the lotion's active ingredients deeper into pores, for faster, more effective results. (Try MAC Prep + Prime Moisture Infusion Serum, $40 at maccosmetics.com.)
4. Smooth with a plant-packed mask. "Blue algae softens rough spots and balances ruddiness," says Katz. (Try Sue Devitt Microquatic Oxygen Infusion Masque, $40 at barneys.com.)

Mariah Carey Reveals Some Skin in Cut-Out Dress
Posted by Jonny on Saturday, 02-Jun-2012, 11:23PM EDT
Mariah Carey wasn't shy about showing off her new curves Friday, stepping out in a fitted gold dress that featured a cut-out on the side and a sexy thigh-high split. The singer was sporting the dress for a photo shoot.
The gold metallic dress shimmered in the sunlight as the R&B singer posed for the cameras. Her hair was slicked back into a long elegant ponytail while a pair of wide-framed sunglasses pulled the look together. After a while Carey removed the sunglasses and showed off a simple pair of large gold hoop earrings. Although some stylists weren't too sure about Carey's decision to finish the look with black heels, nobody could argue against the 42-year-old mommy's fabulous new figure.
After finishing a solo shoot in the show stopping gold dress, Mariah boarded the boat that was docked near the Italian isle of Capri for a second photo shoot. This time Carey traded in the sexy gold ensemble for a simple black dress. A short touch-up was done to her makeup before she began posing again, but this time with 13-month-old daughter Monroe in her lap.

Mariah was in a short black dress during the section beginning with "Love Hangover/Heartbreaker." The show ended with "Hero." Mariah did not come out for an encore, reportedly due to a "crazy guy" taking to the stage requesting a photo with her.
