Alumni abounding. The 50,000 "graduates" of Usdan are represented in every major orchestra and dance company in the country. Well-known former campers include Natalie Portman and Mariah Carey, who, as a first-year student in 1980, played Hodel, Tevye's daughter, in "Fiddler on the Roof." Echoes of Monheit's experience? Carey, in a visit back a few years ago, kvetched that she only made understudy in the class production the next year: "I felt kind of foiled," the pop star told Newsday in 1998. "But not having a lead role gave me a chance to have a lot of fun that summer."
AOL Music counts down its 25 Greatest Video Cameos with the appearances of Eric Roberts and Wentworth Miller in "We Belong Together" reaching #11. "Mimi, clad in her real-life Vera Wang wedding dress, leaves Roberts at the altar, then elopes with 'Prison Break' heartthrob Miller. Can you blame her? No offense, Eric (who also appeared in the Killers' brothel-themed 'Mr. Brightside'), but Wentworth is smokin'!"
Charli from Lambs Lounge reports that an "M by Mariah Carey" bus was spotted promoting the fragrance in London's Leicester Square last week. Passers-by were invited to get on the bus to get a sample of the perfume and the bus had some basic promo info but no picture of Mariah. Apparently this UK promo happened before the launch party in Australia took place.
Newsday's Songs of the Week: It's been a minute since a hook girl has swiped a song from the headliners, but when it's Mariah Carey or Ashanti singing the hooks that is only a matter of time. Carey delightfully coos her way through Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's "Li'l L.O.V.E." (Full Surface/Interscope), offering up one of the summer's best choruses. Ashanti nails her soulful cameo on Jagged Edge's "Put a Little Umph in It" (So So Def), immediately making listeners want more of her on the slow jam - a good sign for her upcoming album.
Javier Orihuela, avid Mariah Carey fan and former Mariah Daily Idol finalist with his amazing Spanish rendition of "Don't Forget About Us," has garnered himself a record deal with a record company in Spain. His new, jazzy single, "Cuentos de Finales Tristes" has been sent out to Spanish radio, and has already topped various radio station countdowns under his new alias "Oke." Despite his new found fame, Oke has not forgotten about his upbringings, citing Mariah Carey on his Myspace page as a major influence. You can view his new music video at his label's website, MacroMusicShow.com.
Australia's newest face in music, singer/songwriter Amy Pearson cites Mariah Carey as her vocal trainer in an interview with Sony BMG Australia: "I always said that she was kind of like my vocal trainer just because she could do all these things I couldn't do and I just wanted to do it so badly that I practiced for hours and hours, I just had no social life at all. I used to get home, get my books out and sing along...So yeah she can take credit for that. I'm sure she probably doesn't care at all but I'm very grateful Mariah." Watch Amy's full interview here.
Mariah is mentioned in the article The Most Eye-Popping Celebrity Bling from Forbes: "Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is often snapped about town lugging around a malt-ball-sized emerald ring; and even on the beach stars like Mariah Carey and Beyonce Knowles jazz up their swimsuits with layers of gold chains and dangly earrings."

Mariah Vs. Janet, Round Two
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 26-Jul-2007, 12:12PM EDT
You know how Mariah Carey, after a series of commercial and critical flubs, managed to bounce back and make an unprecedented comeback in 2005? And you know how Janet Jackson, after a series of commercial and critical flubs, managed to flounce on and make an unprecedented flop in 2006? Well, hip-hop producer Jermaine Dupri is the connecting thread to both developments. And now, Dupri is set to repeat things all over again with new albums from both artists, both tentatively scheduled for release later this year. Dupri told Billboard that longtime producer and record executive L.A. Reid will produce Jackson's new album while he does the deed with Carey. "I'm going to do Mariah, and we're going to make it seem like we're in competition to see who's going to have the biggest album of the year."
Uh-oh. Not only does that sound incredibly unromantic -- all signs are that Dupri and Jackson are still very much a couple. At first blush, it also sounds incredibly unhelpful for Miss Jackson. Dupri, you see, hasn't helped our one-time favorite "Nasty" girl. In fact, ever since the two got together, he's only hurt her career, first with 2003's middling Damito Jo, then with last year's maddening 20 Y.O. And 20 Y.O., we stress to point out, was intended to be a comeback for Jackson on par (hell, even half-under par) with Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi. He royally failed that challenge, both critically and commercially, resulting in both his and Jackson's eventual departure from Virgin. They're now both at Island Urban, with Dupri the executive in charge.
But despite all that, chances are this really could be the boost needed for Jackson's once-storied, now-suffering career. Reid, after all, actually guided Carey's comeback as head of the Island Def Jam family of labels. And in that capacity, Reid oversees not only Jackson, but also Dupri. Plus, Dupri added this to Billboard: "Janet's record is one that [Reid's] wanted to do for a long time. He's very passionate about it." No word on how Jackson's album is shaping up, or if this means the end of her longstanding relationship with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. But Dupri is effectively out of the picture professionally. And that's nothing but good news...

Her sweet voice has built her a multimillion-dollar empire which allows her to buy all the designer shoes she desires. 'You could describe me as an emotional shopper. No matter what kind of day, good or bad, I hit the stores!' she laughs. With music being her number one priority, Mariah doesn't care if she ends up on a magazine's Worst Dressed list.
'My focus has always been on my craft, my music,' she says. 'Dressing up and working with designers is a lot of fun, but at the end of the day, I'm still a singer/songwriter. I think there are some artists who have taken the fashion thing a bit too seriously and it has hurt their careers. I don't want people to say, "She wears her hat well in that shot," I want them to say, "Isn't that new Mariah Carey song great?" READ MORE »
Suddenly, she remembers her dream. "I was at a spa in Sonoma County, getting a massage, because sometimes that helps my insomnia and I fell asleep." At this point, Carey, being massaged, starts to dream about being massaged. "In my dream, I told the masseuse that I had to go to the bathroom, and I'd be right back. She asked me, 'Do you want me to leave the light on for you?' And I said, 'No. You can leave the lights off. Because being in the dark equalizes us all.' What does that mean? I'm not sure."
I'm not sure either, but if I had to guess, I'd say that sometimes, no matter how much you love being a diva, it's nice to be able to turn the spotlight off and be yourself. Normalcy has its perks, too: friends you can trust; guys who will love you for yourself; family members who don't sue you. READ MORE »

"I don't know. I mean, I've been all over the world pretty much and I performed in so many different places but it's hard to describe the feeling that I got when I went back to my junior high and I sang for the kids and there were a lot of the same faculty members who were there when I went to the school. It just made me feel like I've come full circle. And I had so many issues within myself when I was growing up that I think this was a very important part of my healing process and it's something I'll never forget."
Will I Am Gets Funky
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 23-Jul-2007, 1:47PM EDT
Live and direct from his home studio in LA, Mr. Will I Am, he of Black Eyed Peas fame, played us cuts from his brand new album, Songs About Girls. As well as hard-knock hip hop, we couldn't help notice a sound that seemed more familiar from our own home turf.
We can tell you the record sounds absolutely massive. With beats by Will, Polow Tha Don and someone else who I actually can't remember, Songs About Girls is over-big. While the guest stars are limited to just Snoop Dizzle, Will has become one of the world's biggest producers of late, producing tracks for Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.
He even gave us a sneak peak of two brand new tracks by certain superstars - but we promised not to spill the beans! Wouldn't want to get in any trouble.

She's one of the world's most successful female artists and has collected more awards than may be found in the Real Madrid trophy room. Having elected to depart Sony for a king's ransom to sign on the dotted line with Virgin Records, the Golden One opens her new account with the soundtrack to her upcoming "Glitter" movie.
Two questions: where exactly do you go from being the biggest selling female recording artist of the 1990s? And what is there left to achieve in a career that has seen Mariah Carey attain as many figurative records as she has released vinyl ones? READ MORE »
The Glitter debacle well and truly behind here, Mariah's back...stronger, wiser and more focused than ever. Her intimate, new Charmbracelet album is an emotive mix of octave-defying ballads and seductive urban flavas. Recording it served as a therapeutic process to get the lady right back on track...
Would you pay £150 for Mariah Carey's half-eaten lunch? No? Well one fan did at a recent auction for the aforementioned turkey and salad sandwich left behind by Ms. Carey at Atlanta radio station Q100. Not many singers can lay claim to such die-hard following but her achievements to date speak for themselves. With 15 chart-toppers, over 120 million record sales worldwide and two Grammys, she was the only artist to top the charts every year in the 90s. But that was then. READ MORE »
Also, the Pinko Runway magazine has been added. Scans are below.
"I wrote this next song during the time when, after the whole Columbine incident happened and there was a lot of stuff that was going on that was really negative and I was thinking about my experience when I was in high school, in junior high, and just thinking that you can really feel like when you're not part of a certain group or your friends get mad at you or something's going on. You can really feel like it's the end of the world, right? When I wrote this song, I had my days in junior high in high school in mind and I also had my own struggle that I'm still going through now, okay? So, if you have peace within yourself, nobody can touch you no matter what happens."
"I was sort of a, I guess probably 'precocious singing brat.' My mom says I was always like a little adult, kind of always wanting to know what was going on around me."
"What is my earliest childhood memory? Singing with the radio when I was a little girl. I stole the radio from the kitchen and sang under the covers - couple of songs, budding insomniac that I was and stayed up all night singing."
"I always knew that I wanted to be a singer and also when I was growing up, I was in a lot of plays. Sound of Music I was Maria, [sings] Do, a deer and all that stuff. I was in Fiddler On The Roof, I was Hodel. I was in Annie Get Your Gun but I only had a small role in that. I was very upset about that. [laughs]"
"I always knew that I wanted to sing and be involved in the entertainment fields and whatever. And then MTV started when I was growing up like in 6th Grade I think was when I first saw MTV and I knew that's what I wanted to do. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that I wanted to do this forever."

Here's Part 5 of Mariah Carey's Homecoming Special. In this video, Mariah performs the "Fantasy" Remix; and back at the Cafeteria, Mariah continues her discussion about Prom with former classmate Chuck.
Mariah: "Did I get gypped out of Prom Queen or not?" Chuck: "Personally? Yes, 'cause I voted for her. I'll admit it, she asked me to. She did." Mariah: "[Laughs] Me and Nick invented that whole thing. We watched Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles and we just were like 'How can we ever be Prom King and Queen?' So Nick got on the Student Council and I campaigned heavily for the votes and then I almost wasn't allowed to go to Prom 'cause of a little problem I had in Gym class so I was almost not allowed to go." Chuck: "Or lack of Gym, right?" Mariah: "You're good." [laughs]

MARIAH CAREY M by Mariah Carey Eau de Parfum Spray, 3.3 oz. $62.50
Mariah's signature scent opens with an indulgent, creamy accord and blooms into an opulent floral heart as a rich base reveals darker, sensual facets.
A warm and inviting marshmallow is woven throughout the fragrance, evoking a sense of comfort. This indulgent accord captures Mariah's fondest childhood memories of being in the kitchen with her father.
The lush floral heart of the fragrance combines a feminine veil of Living Tahitian Tiare flower wrapped in the aura of wet Gardenia petals. This beautiful blend is reminiscent of the fragrant breezes of Hawaii and the Isle of Capri, Mariah's favorite getaway.
The soul of the fragrance reveals a sexier dimension. Sheer amber, infused with spicy, woody accents of Moroccan incense forms a seductive accord that embodies Mariah's sensuality, beauty and glamour.

Here's Part 4 of Mariah Carey's Homecoming Special. In this video, Mariah performs "Vision of Love," visits the school's office, and talks to her old Guidance Counselor.
Dr. Jim Malone, Mariah's Guidance Counselor: "This is a fairly academic high school and 90+% of the students go on to college to pursue you know, real academic pursuits and Mariah was every bit as committed but she had a lot of courage in committing in a different direction."
Mariah: "Because it was a whole big issue with my friends' parents and everybody and they were... and I'm not an advocate of people not going to college. Because I had already been singing since I was so little and recording and doing all that stuff. I knew there was no doubt in my mind but a lot of my friends' parents were like 'This kid is crazy' and 'Her mother must be crazy to be encouraging this' because it's not the standard procedure."
Dr. Malone: "Right. It wasn't the standard route in this school but today it makes so much sense and it makes sense even then you're encouraged in following in that route 'cause it would hurt to be different."
"And I said, 'Mariah, follow your dream and I really want to encourage you but if it doesn't work out you can always come back and talk to me about it.' And as I look back now, that was really the kind and the right thing to say but I certainly don't think she's gonna need to come back and talk to me about career planning."
In Part 5, we will see Mariah perform "Fantasy" and continue her conversation with former classmate Chuck at the Cafeteria. This time it's about Mariah being gypped out of Prom Queen! Be sure to tune in tomorrow for Part 5!

Here's Part 3 of Mariah Carey's Homecoming Special. In this video, Mariah joins former classmate Chuck in the school's cafeteria where they talk about the 'scandal' dress she wore for Prom night. Chuck said "the school pitched in unknowingly," revealing that Mariah held a party and charged people to help support the making of her prom dress! Mariah then performs "Against All Odds;" and sits down for an interview with students.
What was, not your greatest accomplishment, but what did you work the hardest for? "I worked the hardest for my freedom and for my ability to be in control of my career."
In Part 4, we will see Mariah perform "Vision of Love" and visit the school's office. Also, we will hear from Mariah's Guidance Counselor talk about his meeting with Mariah during a college/career planning session. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for Part 4!
New Voice Message from Mariah!
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 19-Jul-2007, 12:00AM EDT
Mariah left a brand-new voice message on her official site, MariahCarey.com earlier today! Check it out!
Transcript "Hello! I know I haven't called you since 1802. Actually, I haven't called anyone. I've been really, really busy and when I do get free time, I'm on vocal rest so I can like get back in the studio for 20 billion hours. So everybody's mad at me but whatever (laughs). I did get a couple of days of vacation in Capri which was a stone groove and I was happy 'cause I haven't been there since I was recording the Mimi record like three years ago. So that was nice for me.
Anyway, I was just sitting here and I was looking through some fan books and like letters and stuff that I've gotten from you guys over the years and I was like, you know, reminiscing and just realizing how stellar you are and how funny. Some of you guys are stone comedians you do know this, right? (laughs). So funny you are and how happy you make me and I decided that I needed to give you a nice call to check in and tell you that everything is flantastic.
Let's see what's going on. I'm not allowed to talk about Tennessee because they want the performance to speak for itself and everything like that but that is obviously something that I'm excited about. What can I talk about? Let's think. I'm very, very, very excited about how the fragrance came out. Remember I was telling you that it was like I had so much fun you know working on it and stuff like that and so it's really, I'm very looking forward to seeing how you guys like it, should be in stores by September and hopefully you like it as much as I do.
And yeah, last but not least, the nice songs that I've been working on, I quite enjoy them. I've written my 10th so far and like about...and I guess I'm going to Atlanta next week to work with JD so that should be a stone groove smash hit wonder or at least a stone groove, hopefully (laughs). But that's about it. I'm trying to get the record out this year so I'm gonna be holed up in the studio for like the next few months and I will see you when I'm done. Also, the other bleakness is my trainer is living with me and it's bleak because I can't eat anything good and she makes me workout after I've been in the studio for like 80 trillion hours but whatever. We love her, and we love everybody.
So I will check in again but please don't take it personally if it's like a little bit sporadic because it's just because I'm working and I'm trying hard to get the nice album out by the end of this year. That is the goal. So I'm gonna wrap it up now but I love you as always. Love you, appreciate you, and I enjoy you and I will chat with you soon. Bye!"

Here's Part 2 of Mariah Carey's Homecoming Special. In this video, Mariah performs "Dreamlover," and is shown walking her old school's Gym, Nurses' Office, Cafeteria, and In-School Suspension Room; and talking to her former principal.
"Welcome back, Mariah." "Thank you very much." "Nice to see you here." "When I went to this school, I was on the Honor Roll." "Which Roll?" "I...[laughs] It's very nice that they're even letting me back here. Let's just put it that way."
Dr. Raymond McCloat: "I was Mariah's principal when she graduated from Harborfields. I think there were personality clashes between a very willful young lady and some staff members who saw things a little differently. She was... especially gym as I recall."
In Part 3, we will see Mariah perform "Against All Odds;" reminisce about Prom night with former classmate Chuck and talk about her scandalous Prom dress; and interview with students. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for Part 3!

Producer Johnta Austin talks briefly about working with Mariah in an interview with DJBooth:
Take us through your songwriting process, do you write differently when you're writing for yourself as opposed to when you're writing for other artists? "It's a little bit of a different process...well the process is the same but the conceptualizing is a little different. When I work with someone like Mariah I try to assist them in what they want to say to the people, and try to help bring their vision and their ideas to life and assist them any way I can. When I'm writing for myself I have an idea of who I am as an artist and what I want to say. I'm a real fun guy and I like to have a good time, I try to create an escape in my music as far as Johnta Austin the artist goes. So conceptually I take a different approach, but as far as the process goes of trying to tell a story it's the same across the board."
From Fox News: Enrique Iglesias' "Escape" went on to clock more than 2 million copies. It bore the hit "Hero," which sounded innocuously like Mariah Carey's "Hero." (To paraphrase Tina Turner: We didn't need another hero.)... If [Island/Def Jam Head, L.A.] Reid can just give Janet [Jackson] the kind of adult production that made Mariah Carey's "Emancipation of Mimi" album a hit, Janet will be back in a flash. If not, she can always record a duet with Enrique.

Rumor Update: "Zohan" To Film In Mexico?
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 16-Jul-2007, 4:55PM EDT
As previously reported, Mariah Carey will reportedly be co-starring with Adam Sandler in the upcoming comedy "You Don't Mess With The Zohan." Here's an article from the Israeli site, Walla with some updates about the filming of the movie.
Columbia Studios has decided to change the filming location for "You Don't Mess With The Zohan" from Tel-Aviv (Israel) to Mexico. The movie was supposed to be shot in Israel in December, but shooting is now scheduled in Mexico in August.
However, a secondary filming crew (without Sandler and without the director, Dennis Dugan) will arrive in Israel to capture some "atmospheric moments."
More confirmed castings are the comedian Rob Schneider (Sandler's "Saturday Night Live" pal who regularly appears in his films), and the singer Mariah Carey who will appear in the film as herself.
"You Don't Mess With Zohan" follows Sandler's character, an ex-Mossad (the Israeli intelligence institute) agent who fakes his death so he can move to New York and become a hairstylist.

"Even though we were but metres away from each other in adjoining bedrooms 'pon de boat' MC paged me: 'Hey lets go to the blue grotto today!' Of course, even though I had my blackberry with me, I had my 'Out of office' message on in case any of my MTV folks were trying to get a hold of me. So my out of office message pings back to MC who is irritated and confused 'cos now she doesn't know what that message is about. I then had to explain the process of the OOO for MC who's never spent a day of her life in an office bless her." -- Jasmine Dotiwala
Next in my diary were gigs, video shoots and parties by Kano and Craig David, Wu Tang, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent and Timbaland as well as music's biggest event of the year so far- Live Earth. They weren't in my diary for long though. They were all nixed (except the Kano and Craig David shoot in L.A as that was for work and mama always tells me work comes first) as soon as I was invited by Mariah to join her on a boat in Capri.
The journey from los scandalous to Capri couldn't have been fiddlier. I flew L.A to Heathrow, then had an hour to get through immigration, collect my luggage and race from Terminal 2 to 1, then jumped on to a flight to Rome, then jumped on to a flight to Naples, then raced from Naples Airport to Naples port to catch the last speedboat over to Capri Island. Gosh - I'm exhausted just writing that! Finally, I stepped on to the cobbled streets of Capri to be met my MC's security who whisked me off to MC's boat.
I say MC's boat but it was actually courtesy of Italian designer extraordinaire Mr. Roberto Cavalli. In fact, once you were on the boat, it was obviously Roberto's boat as his leather and animal print furniture, designs and presence were everywhere even down to the luxurious Cavalli products in the bathrooms. Every available cupboard was stacked with RC goodies that smelt heavenly. Bed sheets, table cloths, china - you name it, it was designed by Roberto, darlings!
I climbed all three decks to the top where I found Princess Carey reclining on the plush white lounge sofas in a sexy as you like Cavalli bikini and matching green and gold necklace-looking like a replica straight out of Vogue itself. The boat is called Baglietto and was full of exquisite, gracious staff ready to execute our every request. Also in attendance were MC's family Shawn, Rae Rae, Maryanne, and the uber Manager Benny Medina!
We boarded the smaller tender (boat) to get to a remote cliff top restaurant where we ate under the moonlight on the cliffs edge. Just as we finished dinner, we were surprised with hundreds of fireworks that were let off in front of us in the middle of the ocean; did I mention that it looked like the boat caught fire? No - I shouldn't talk about that little mishap. After he scuttled away, we continued debating the merits of the movie Norbit.
Next day, even though we were but metres away from each other in adjoining bedrooms 'pon de boat' MC paged me: "Hey lets go to the blue grotto today!". Of course, even though I had my blackberry with me, I had my 'Out of office' message on in case any of my MTV folks were trying to get a hold of me. So my out of office message pings back to MC who is irritated and confused 'cos now she doesn't know what that message is about. I then had to explain the process of the OOO for MC who's never spent a day of her life in an office bless her.
On day 3 it hit me that being on a boat comes with even more issues than driving a car.
Boat people have their own private snobbery club, so it was a good thing we were on Roberto's boat which is I'm told "really fast for a boat of its size". The yacht parking issues got us each night. We would be having so much fun out at sea jumping in and out of the water, racing around on the jet ski and doing water aerobics that often we would leave it too late to get a space in the dock or it would be too dark to enter the dock. Anytime a cruiser comes in to dock, a million crew members run around carefully placing fenders (huge balloon like missiles) in place to protect their vessel. Issues of the biggest, highest boat were being discussed everywhere. In fact, nearly as much discussion was about Eddie Murphy who was on a neighbouring boat. When I told my friend back in London that Scary Spice's baby daddy was metres away from us she texted me back "OMG-stay away from The Sperminator!"

Mariah: "Pavarotti's a legend. His voice is one of the most incredible ever, so I was honored when he asked me to perform with him. Music has a universal voice and, as there are so many people in need, particularly now, it's an important time for artists to get together, not only to raise money but also awareness for great causes."

Forbes' 20 Most Expensive Celeb Weddings - E! July 14, 2007 Type: MPG | Size: 33.5 MB [ Download here ]
Transcript: A real-life fairy tale inspired the 1993 wedding of couple no. 18. The king of the music business Tommy Mottola and singing diva Mariah Carey wouldn't have it any other way.
E! TV: "Mariah Carey is said to have really worked hard to model her wedding after the royal wedding between Princess Diana and Prince Charles."
Mariah's $25,000 customed-Vera Wang gown had a jewelled bodice, a 10-foot long veil and 27-foot long train that required six attendants to carry.
Vera Wang, Fashion Designer: "I know that she was actually trying Princess Diana. You really have to be in a proper venue for a dress of that theatricality and that importance. I mean, it was in St. Patrick's Cathedral and there is a length of aisle there that makes it valid in terms of drama."
The look was completed with a pair of $1,000 shoes. The bride's something-old was a heirloom diamond and pearl tiara redesigned to match the one worn by Princess Diana on her wedding day.
Marc Shapiro, Author: "They spent thousands and thousands of dollars. I mean, if you can imagine a wedding party that included both Dick Clark and Ozzie Osbourne. It's like total fantasyland."
The fantasy also included a regal guest list with Hollywood royalty like Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley, and Robert de Niro. So that's $25,000 for the gown, $1,000 for the shoes, and all those little items like food, champagne and flowers. Total cost of Mariah and Tommy's royal wedding? $500,000. Wow, too bad they followed in Charles and Diana's footsteps in divorce in 1998. Who has the custody of the shoes?

The reality is, that Mariah does love to have fun; hell, she is young, rich and very famous, but she is also an extremely responsible person. She has every reason to have gotten lost in all that stardom thing but, instead she is consciously down-to-earth about the whole game. Hours from taking off she had been given a ring by an adoring Spanish girl with an accompanying letter stating how it was given to her by her grandmother and how she wanted to give it to Mariah, her idol.
"That makes me feel so bad..." confirms Carey. "I wish she had given it to her loved one or something. But what can you do? I wanted to accept it because there was so much love behind the giving of the ring to me but I don't deserve it..." READ MORE »
Sony's undisputed Queen is about to release her brand new album "Rainbow" which highlights some very personal aspects of her roller coaster ride to superstardom. Jeff Lorez listens to a very reflective woman.
"When you're involved in a situation where you're really young and you're surrounded by stronger, older, powerful people who are in cahoots with each other, you think you're pretty powerless - but you're not! Until someone comes along and tells you that you're not powerless, you don't get it unless you're than precocious and you already know. It's not that I didn't know what I was contributing it was just that I felt afraid, scared and insecure and frightened on a lot of levels and no one really empowered me." READ MORE »

New Mariah, Janet Albums To Compete?
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 13-Jul-2007, 2:32PM EDT
Janet Jackson has followed her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri from Virgin to Island Def Jam, Billboard has learned. "She's on Island, but it's more or less [Def Jam CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid's] project," Dupri says. "I let him deal with that on a day-to-day basis. He's going to A&R that project, too. Janet's record is one that he's wanted to do for a long time. He's very passionate about it.
Jackson's departure from Virgin comes in the wake of two consecutive commercial disappointments: 2004's "Damita Jo" and last year's "20 Y.O." Her departure from the label was widely rumored after Dupri exited the company late last year to become president of Island Urban.
As for the direction of Jackson's as-yet-untitled album, Dupri says, "I don't really know what he's got in mind at this point. His past record isn't shabby so I'm going to let him do what he's going to do. I'm going to do [the new] Mariah [Carey album], and we're going to make it seem like we're in competition to see who's going to have the biggest album of the year."
There is no release date yet for the Jackson album, although rumors suggest it may be ready before the end of the year.

Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston in Album Race
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 12-Jul-2007, 8:52AM EDT
Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, old rivals in the pop music world, are racing to finish albums and release them this year.
Carey looks like she'll be the winner. According to my sources, she's nearing the end of recording for a CD to follow up her mega-selling "Emancipation of Mimi." Island/DefJam has set a Nov. 20 release date.
Carey has been recording all over the world, including on her beloved Isle of Capri, where she was recently photographed cavorting on designer Roberto Cavalli's yacht.
In fact, she's been working her ample posterior off, and has as many as eight finished tracks in the can, sources tell me.
"She's working with all different producers and writers," a source said. "And she sounds great."
Meanwhile, Houston is said to have two completed tracks finished and is getting ready for a third. Her album still has no name or release date, but all systems continue to be "go" according to insiders.
The big news about Whitney is that she may be ready to quit living in Los Angeles, where she's been for more than a year while kicking drugs and starting her life over.
The talk now is that this fall, Houston will resume living in Atlanta, the place where she had many painful experiences during her turbulent marriage to Bobby Brown.

"I Feel It" Lyrics
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 11-Jul-2007, 3:51PM EDT
I FEEL IT
[Spoken] Here we go again I don't wanna let you in But you know what happens
When I, when I, When I feel it.
I feel it deep inside, I feel it come alive, Here comes that feeling again.
I feel it deep inside, I feel it come alive, Here comes that feeling again.
Keep telling you it's over, But boy here we go again. You say 'I'm coming over' 'Cause you know I'll let you in. So sly and so persuasive, I don't wanna let you win, But my restraint's diminishing And then I go When I, when I, When I feel it.
I feel it deep inside, I feel it come alive, Here comes that feeling again.
I feel it deep inside, I feel it come alive, Here comes that feeling again.
Keep trying to convince myself You ain't no good for me, Make futile resolutions That I'm gonna let you be But everytime you come back, My defenses start to wane, And I can hardly break away And then I go When I, when I, When I feel it.
I feel it deep inside, I feel it come alive, Here comes that feeling again.
I feel it deep inside, I feel it come alive, Here comes that feeling again.
When I, when I, when I When I feel your love Here comes that feeling again.
Here it comes again boy, And I feel it, and I feel it! Here comes that feeling again.
And I feel it, oh baby Here it comes and here it comes And here it comes...

Interview with Mahogany, Superstar Producer
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 11-Jul-2007, 3:30PM EDT
Music journalist Rashmi Shastri conducted an interview with producer Mahogany today, July 11th, in time for the MySpace release of "I Feel It." Below are excerpts.
Everyone wants to know about the song 'I Feel It' that you produced for Mariah Carey's last album, The Emancipation Of Mimi. Why didn't it make the final line up of songs on the album? I have no idea to be honest. Everyone asked that. I think that the song is great and it just would have stood out on the album which is a good thing but when you're making an album, you want it to flow a certain way. There are a lot of great songs on her album that I feel the record company wanted the audience to pay attention to. The tracks I produce had more of a soulful element and the album turned out to be a clean and polished album. "Sprung" was very energetic there is no other song on the album that sounds like that, and the same with "I Feel It" it's so soulful you would want the whole album to be like that. That's just my take on it.
How did you get into contact with MC? A friend of mine name Roxstarr (on Myspace as "The Anti Corp") came to me and told me that his friend just got the job as Mariah's day to day manager A&R. I was camped out at Sony Studios in New York making tracks everyday, and her A&R Mark SudacK came by to pick up a CD from me and I had just created "Sprung" so I passed the CD over to him. A week or two later he called and said Mariah loved the track, and the rest is history.
What was it like being in the studio with MC? Super cool. She's very creative. We listened to records I had with me, took pictures and just enjoyed the moment. Me and Mariah sat down and made like 10 beats together in 3 days with hardly any sleep. The vibe was powerful. When that happens you really dont want to go to sleep 'cause you'll feel like you missed some music magic in the studio.
Did you both talk about much with each other? Plans on how we want to work together on more songs. Mariah is very down to earth and it was like I knew her already. She has a good spirit.
Are there plans for you to work with her on the album she's doing now? I'm submitting tracks right now bouncing ideas around.

Mariah Mention in "Conversation on the Americas"
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 10-Jul-2007, 2:20AM EDT
The President and Mrs. Bush hosted a White House Conference on the Americas on July 9, 2007. The goal of the conference was to discuss and highlight the vast array of societal interaction between the United States and its neighbors to better the lives of the region's citizens. It included representatives from Mexico, Brazil, Haiti, the United States, and Guatemala. Panelist Matthew Clausen of Partners of the Americas mentioned Mariah Carey in discussing the volunteer programs of his organization.
"...The Youth Ambassadors program, which we have had the pleasure of working with the U.S. government and our embassies and the private sector, to provide opportunities to underprivileged youth in nine different countries -- these are kids who are self-starters. One of our Brazilian Youth Ambassadors, I asked him who his English teacher was, and he said, Mariah Carey, on the radio. This is someone who deserves an opportunity, and he was able to come and spend a week in Washington, see how our government, how our democracy works, and then, more importantly, perhaps -- no offense to Washington -- he was able to go out and stay with a host family, go to school with kids his age, learn about cultures in different states in the U.S., and take that experience back with him."

SALERNO, Italy - Mariah Carey stripped down to this itsy bitsy bikini as she caught some ocean rays off the coast of Europe. The singing superstar spent her vacation on Roberto Cavalli's yacht in fact, which no doubt explains why she looks so fashion fabulous accentuating her suit with some serious bling and a pair of wrap-around shades. Though she looks all by her lonesome atop the multi-million dollar cruiser, Mimi was actually hanging with a group of pals. They even seemed to take cues from the fashion world, posing glamorously, photo shoot style for their personal pics before sipping fine wine and jumping off the boat for a dip in the sea.

Mariah Scan From Germany
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 09-Jul-2007, 12:37AM EDT
From the July 9th edition of the German newspaper, Bild.
Mariah Carey slim again!
Capri. Till now it didn't seem Mariah Carey (37) had taken that much care of her figure. But now THESE pictures: the singer with the golden voice looks amazingly delicate and incredibly slim as she's having a good time on the boat of star designer Roberto Cavalli (66) in Capri. Her tips for a slim figure: 1. no balance, 2. nibbling Italian tomato salad (available at her island's favorite restaurant, "Villa Verde"), 3. going out for dinner in an extremely close-fitting dress. As soon as it pinches - you better go back home!
The singer is currently working on a comeback and wants the pole position on the charts. But she needs to be thick-skinned anyway: The loutish rapper Eminem (34) intends to talk about his affair with Mariah on his next album. How rude!
The record company biography states that since her debut in 1990, Mariah Carey has sold 60 million records worldwide, a third of those in the last two years. That's a lot of records and a helluva lot of money. Make no mistake about it, Mariah Carey is big business. Amongst the biggest business Sony Music has. Forget the fact that she's married to the main man at her record company - people can't be forced to buy records and buy hers in the droves they have. Since her eponymously titled debut and on through the brilliant "Emotions" (in my opinion, an album yet to be matched), the EP "MTV Unplugged," '93's "Music Box" and last year's "Merry Christmas" (which actually sold 8 milion copies worldwide), Mariah's appeal seems to be the fact that she leans noticeably towards R&B/soul but not so much as to alienate a large MOR/across the board audience who are drawn to the obvious pop/commerciality of cuts such as "Dreamlover" and the sugary power ballad, "Hero" from her last album. Add the fact that she could probably sing the phone book and make it sound soulful, is very easy on the eye and her racial ambiguity must be a marketing person's dream and you could be forgiven for thinking that Mariah was created to sell records.
If she's delicately straddled the thin line between R&B credibility and pop commerciality in the past, her latest album, "Daydream" will undoubtedly endear her more to her "urban" following. Check the names involved - Babyface, Jermaine Dupri, Boyz II Men, Dave Hall, David Morales, Puffy and O.D.B. on the remix to the first single, "Fantasy." At 60 million records sold Mariah can call the shots and who wouldn't wanna hang with her?
Lying back on a leather couch at Sony Music's Manhattan recording studios, sporting leather jeans and a skin tight cut-off sky-blue jumper, showing a perfectly honed mid-riff, Mariah, her voice slightly hoarse after a satellite taping of Top Of The Pops, was, unfortunately, in a talkative mood. The new album seemed the obvious place to start and in particular, her ongoing musical relationship with ever present co-writer and producer Walter Afanasieff, who again takes co-credits on the bulk of the new tracks. It's understandable that Mariah isn't too keen to discuss her personal life. Get her on to the subject of music though and you can't keep this woman quiet. I pointed out that on "Breakdown," Mariah sings in the same manner as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony rap.
"It's a completely different type of singing for me," she stated. "I love what they do and I think their style is so unique. You can tell in a lot of R&B their style is starting to penetrate. I was very inspired by them when I came up with the song and I told Puffy let's do a Bone hugs type track. We got Stevie J (Puffy's right hand producer) to lay down the tracj and I wrote the melody over it. I wrote the song to fit in with that type of style they do and I realised it's really hard to sing those types of rhythm. They make it sound so easy. Now, having experienced the difficulty at first hand. I respect them even more."
Indeed, "Butterfly" sees Mariah continuing the theme she started with her last album, "Daydream," surrounding herself with the hottest R&B hip-hop talent around.
"Missy (Elliott) to me is on the cutting edge of where R&B is going today," enthused Mariah, when brought up the collaboration for "Babydoll." "I think because she's a rapper her lyrical sense is different from someone who's just a singer and a writer. She uses references only a rapper would use. The first time I heard her was on that MC Lyte Record ("Cold Rock A Party") when she was doing that "Hee hee ha" thing she does. I loved it and I asked who was singing in the background (Mariah sings) and I found out it was her. I was intrigued by that and then I found out she wrote "If Your Girl Only Knew" (Mariah sings again) for Aaliyah, so I got the Aaliyah album and heard everything I liked was Missy. So I called her and went to Virginia. I already had the idea for the chorus of "Babydoll" and I asked Missy what melody ideas she had for the verses, which I never usually do but I wanted her flavour. So she came up with that skipping, choppy approach. READ MORE »

In Touch, Up Close section, page 26 Shower Power! Mariah's singin' in the rain
Oh, what a glorious feeling! Mariah Carey belted it out under the shelter of an umbrella at Disneyland Resort Paris on June 29. The diva dodged the drizzle while performing a set of six remixed hits for the One Mighty Party concert to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Diva Mariah Carey, 37, stays out of the rain as she performs at the European debut of Elton John's benefit concert One Mighty Party, at the Disneyland Resort in Paris, France on June 29.
From today's edition of the Italian newspaper, Il Mattino, on its national news section, Mattino di Napoli:
"Capri - But in the island there are not only sportsmen. Among the ones that had already been there is singer Mariah Carey, who, last night, was at the re-opening of "Number Two" club, where she stayed until the early morning celebrating her manager's birthday. She had strawberry liquor and danced all night long to the hip-hop music of DJ Marcantonio."
Update: Mariah has reportedly left the island of Capri this morning.
The German music channel VIVA has just aired its special, "100 Most Beautiful Stars Of All Times." Mariah made it on the list at #73.
Singer Kelly Clarkson mentions Mariah in her candid interview with Blender magazine, August 2007 issue.
On her face-to-face meeting with music exec Clive Davis: "It was nice. It was just the two of us, and his dog. I was like, 'I don't know you very well, and I am not a bulls***. I get you don't like the album. You're 80; you're not supposed to like my album.' I said, 'Clive, I'm going to make tons of albums. It doesn't have to be mainstream every time. Then he kept bringing up people he's worked with. 'You're a Whitney! You're a Mariah!' First of all, Mariah writes a lot of her stuff. Secondly, I don't want a career like either of those singers. That's why it's hard for us to make an album. You don't know me! You don't know what I like, and you don't know what my fans like."
Pitchfork: Mariah, A 'Just-Nice' Feature On "Lil L.O.V.E."
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 06-Jul-2007, 2:35PM EDT
Pop and R&B would experience straight up Xanadu-level bliss if Mariah Carey and producer-master Jermaine Dupri -- holding hands, heads and treble high -- released a new track into the ether in 30-second intervals from now until the Mayan apocalypse (2012, witches).
That said, I believe Carey should stave off the release of her next album until she's about 75 years old, Bette Midler style. Because it's nigh-impossible for any artist to follow up the apex of their career (in this case, the platijillion-selling album The Emancipation of Mimi) without a) Dropping a boner-sized clunker, or b) Exposing the deep and circular woes of the narcissistic inferiority complex inevitably acquired from attaining such plateaus of artistic and commercial success. It's like, right after your friend wins a marathon, you are not trying to check out her feet, you know?
As Mimi goes, she's already been through the drama -- a failed marriage with a controlling record industry patriarch, an ill-received film and album, a publicized dalliance with possible mental instability, etc-- so she knows from experience her best plan now is to return to her roots: features. Like showing up on this this super low-key Bone Thugz track. The song itself registers at about "relaxing, pleasant bath" on the Bone-Thugz-n-Mariah temperature-continuum -- not as solid as her Freeway and Jadakiss collaborations, where the chemistry was so thick you could spear it with a mascara wand...but serviceable.
Most importantly, when you follow up your magnum opus with a "just nice" feature on someone else's album, the pressure is diffused. The lower the bar is on the rebound, the easier it is to wow 'em when it counts. There's something to be said for the razzle-dazzle of exceeding someone's low expectations.

THAT Mariah Carey just finished filming "Tennessee," her follow-up to the execrable "Glitter," and co-wrote a song with Willie Nelson for the soundtrack. Word from the set is she's "really, really good" in it - "It might be the cinema equivalent to the Red Sox winning the World Series," we're told.
Bone Thugs Feel Big Love
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 06-Jul-2007, 10:40AM EDT
Mariah, Bow Wow Show Up For 'Lil L.O.V.E.' Video 'It's a privilege to work with legends such as Bone,' Bow Wow says.
Only a little love? Hardly. Legendary hip-hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony were feeling the devotion recently on the Los Angeles set of their new video. Mariah Carey, Swizz Beatz, Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri all came out to appear in the clip for their huge collaboration, "Lil L.O.V.E."
"It's a privilege to work with legends such as Bone," Bow Wow said.
Dupri echoed that sentiment. "Everybody loves their style," he said. "Krayzie got their buzz going on the Chamillionaire record ['Ridin''] and a couple of other records, and everybody was looking for them."
Earlier this year, Bone Thugs, minus Bizzy Bone, released Strength & Loyalty, which debuted as the #2 album in the country. The record sales and the airplay success of the single "I Tried," featuring Akon, were all the vindication they needed against those who said that Swizz Beatz, the album's executive producer, was wasting his time trying to help bring them back.
"It was a lot of naysayers: 'Bone fell off, Bone are washed up, Bone can't do it without Bizzy,'" Krayzie Bone recalled. "People didn't believe in us. For the album to come out and debut at #2, to hit the charts so hard with the song for Akon, it's a blessing. We thank the Lord and our fans."
"Lil L.O.V.E." is about a woman who tells her man he needs to spend a little more time with her instead of chasing dollars.
"The whole vibe of the video is how your girl is complaining that you doing too much," Layzie said. "You need to spend some time with her. So basically it's showing that aspect of the hustle."
"It's a performance video, going with surreal sets," director Chris Robinson said. "It's all black-and-white [since] relationships and love may seem black-and-white on the surface.
"Bone, Mariah, JD, Bow Wow -- they're all icons in their own right," Robinson added. "The best was to set that up [visually]. Everybody gets their moment, and [then] we flip it and everybody is together."

From the July 4th edition of the Italian newspaper, Roma: The VIPs continue to appear in Capri. Brief nocturnal appearance of Mariah Carey at Piazzetta. The American singer, frequenter of the blue island, stayed some days inside her yacht at the touristic harbour of Capri. The fans expected her to go out to get some pictures and autographs, but she did not want to be bothered by curious people and papparazzi, and decided to only appear at Piazzetta at night, going to a very specific place: Villa Verde restaurant. She went there with a big group of friends and bodyguards at almost midnight. For Mariah Carey's dinner, who was wearing a tight and short black and white dress, Franco Lembo, owner of the place, did a mix of Capri dishes: pizza margherita, heart-shaped ravioli and tomato salad with fish. Mariah received a t-shirt from Franco Schiano, who appeared next to the table, with the words "Franco with love."
KUWAIT Mariah's ad for Pinko was in yesterday's edition of the Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Watan. Pinko is located at Al-Fanar Mall in Salmiya, Kuwait.
GERMANY From the July 5th issue of the German In Touch magazine, pages 58 & 59: Her Comeback As A Lady
"You gotta believe in your dreams and then become active at realizing them." Mariah Carey seems to be practicing her life's motto right at the moment. For her dream which is to become "a serious actress," the singer has even changed her style. Instead of showing lots of skin, she suddenly wears simple, but elegant clothes. And her plan has apparently been succesful: Despite her movie flops ("Glitter," "Wisegirls"), Mariah has been offered a role by Hollywood star Adam Sandler. In his next movie "You Don't Mess With The Zohan" Mariah is supposed to play herself.
RUSSIA The Russian Silver Old Shoe Awards was held on June 27th. This year Old Shoe mentioned Mariah Carey again, and it was in the "Plagiarism of the Year" nomination, just like last year's. Unfortunately, this year's nominees who copied Mariah's rhythm in their song did not win, but you can compare their song with the original. So, Band'Eros with "Columbia Pictures" was nominated for plagiarizing Rihanna's "Pon de Replay" and Mariah Carey's "It's Like That." As some people say, imitation is the best compliment. KOREA Mariah has got alot of attention from fellow artist singer wannabes in Korea in the past few months of year 2007. Many singers who want to make it big are putting up media files of themselves singing songs, predominantly those of Mariah Carey (the best of the best as we all know!). Sookyung, soon to release her first album, has been chosen by internet users in Korea as the best 'Korean Mariah Carey' and ranked fifth in popularity out of all the media files in the Korean You Tube called 'Pandora TV.' She has been covered by the media numerous time because of her singing Mariah songs. Listen to her sing Emotions, Love Takes Time, and My All.
Mariah & Patti LaBelle To Record a Christmas Song
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 05-Jul-2007, 1:31AM EDT
In an audio message left on her official site on July 2nd, Patti LaBelle talks about her future recording plans, which include working on a Christmas album with Mariah Carey!
Click on the play button below to listen to Patti LaBelle's voice message.
Excerpt: "I had just signed with Def Jam after LA Reid dropped me. He thought about it. He said, 'I think I need to pick you back up.' So I gave him a few months to think about it after he asked me then I finally said yes. So I'll be going to record a Christmas album with Mariah Carey and some other kids and I'm just moving right along."
Claiming that she's the most relaxed she's ever been seems to be working for Mariah Carey...
The success of The Emancipation of Mimi must feel quite sweet... You know what? It does feel sweet - very sweet indeed. Especially as I'm a songwriter and an artist who's put soooo much into this record. Just to see the reaction to it has been incredible.
To The Floor and Get Your Number would be my favourites from the album, do you think you'll ever make a wall-to-wall raunched-up album? I'm not really about that. We can give hints and tease and play around. It's all in fun. I'm not taking myself too seriously on songs like these. It all just came out of a good time, really. The best thing for me with this album is that I can hear the spark that I started out with. Over the years, some songs may have had these really good vocal performances or have other reasons to be proud of them. But this time I hear a consistent feeling of the easier vibe. There was nobody standing over me telling me how to make it.
If you work something too hard or overproduce it, you can lose the original music... Right. My main goal this time was to keep the production simple and that worked with Jermaine Dupri, The Neptunes and Kanye West's songs, as their style is sparse hip-hop which suits my approach for up-tempo records. With The Neptunes, I've been friends with Pharrell a long time. This time around it finally happened. It was a totally different approach to collaborating for me. I walked into the studio and said something jokingly, about something so hot - it was volcanic, liquid-hot magma or something. Pharrell wrote it down and later went, did you realise that you said this when you came in? I just went, 'No, that's just me being silly,' In the end, it turned out to be my favourite lyric in the song - the way it ended up. Sound-wise and vibe-wise, Snoop was in the next room working on Drop It Like It's Hot. We worked together on Rainbow and we did Crybaby for that. It was one of my favourites, but my label didn't understand the whole collaborating with rappers thing at that stage... hopefully, one day, it can be a re-release. It's always fun to work with Snoop as he's a great guy and a hip-hop legend. READ MORE »
Before the global adulation and the New York penthouse, she was just another struggling artist moonlighting as a waitress living on pasta and cheese. Sally Morgan uncovers the story of a little girl with a big dream.
Mariah Carey's well-founded confidence in her own ability and sheer d'termination have shaped her into a global musical phenomenon. Self-consciously crafted, and artfully polished, there is nothing casually incidental about the shimmer of this star. Ever since she first picked up a pen and warbled a chorus as a child, Mariah knew that somehow her destiny lay in music. She remembers, "I started writing poetry when I was 6 years old and I was always making up little melodies in my head. I guess the first real song I wrote was when I was 13."
She is now the recognised number one top selling female artist of all time. Whatever you think of her style, and she's not without her critics, Mariah Carey's music has touched millions of lives. Undeniably talented with an incredible seven octave vocal range, it's not just the fans she's impressed. Her list of awards illustrates the height of the industry's regard for her: two Grammies, eight American Music awards, Billboard's 'Artist of the Decade' and 'World's Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium'. After a slump over recent years with disappointing album sales and a disastrous sashay into film with the slated 'Glitter,' she is back on form and ready to storm into the charts and belt out our radios once again.
Rather small in stature, and with an angelic face, it is surprisingly a tremendous strength of character that is Mariah's most obvious feature. Shy and retiring she is not. "With my current album I've had my 16th number one single "We Belong Together" which topped the Billboard 100 charts for 14 weeks," she smiles. "I've also broken their record by being the first female lead artist in 47 years to occupy the number one and number two positions simultaneously with "We Belong Together" (a collaboration with Jermaine Dupri) and "Shake It Off." Has she always been confident that she would enjoy this degree of success? "I always knew I wanted to do it. I always dreamt that I would be able to have music as my career and I really had a lot of faith in the fact that it was going to happen and just wouldn't let go of that dream." READ MORE »

Correct Answer: Mariah Carey Carey's beloved Jack is so well traveled, he may qualify for his own frequent flyer miles. And even when the diva decides to take a road trip, it's still first class all the way for this "amazing" Jack Russell terrier, who has "his own little nook" on the diva's tour bus.

Mariah's Mighty Party

Give us a D! Give us an I! Give us a V! Give us an A!
Whoavyagot? Mariah Carey, that's who.
The syrupy-voiced songstress is renowned for taking a pride in her appearance as much as her voice, and for her outrageous demands.
For her most recent gig, at Disneyland Paris, the singer pulled out all the stops with a set that included a diamante-studded microphone, a sparkly pole for dancing around and a whole lot of mirrors to check herself out in, as well as oodles of yummy men, fireworks, a laser show - and an umbrella.
Performing at Sir Elton John's charity concert, One Mighty Party, on 29th June, the Butterfly singer must have begun to panic more than a little when it started to rain.
Just think of the capacity for extreme make-up-smudging danger, the perils of frizzing hair, or slip-sliding off those mega-heels.
But Mimi made it through the rain, with the help of a big transparent brolly.

Bonus Video: Interview, Charmbracelet Promo Tour - KMTV Music Q, Korea, Dec. 2002 Type: MPG | Size: 53.0 MB [ Download here ]
Excerpts from the Interview:
KM TV: "We know that this is your first album with your new record label, and I guess you know, it would have a lot of meanings to you." Mariah: Actually, I made this record before I signed my record deal and I just went in the studio and I just wrote and sang songs that I felt like singing."
KM TV: "It seems like your music has had a twist onto the hip-hop side?" Mariah: "Some songs that you may not even realize had an undertone of a hip-hop beat that were based around the loop like "Blind Alley" is a very popular hip-hop beat and the song "Dreamlover" was written on top of that loop. I feel like we tend to package people like put them in boxes and think, 'Okay, this person only sings ballads, 'This person is only a hip-hop artist."
KM TV: "It's not really usual for people to remake a rock piece ["Bringin' On The Heartbreak"]. How do you get to choose the song?" Mariah: I guess they'd be called the heavy metal group [Def Leppard] or whatever but I think it's such a good song. It's not like it's some, it's one of the more obscure."
