Hi Keith, I have a few questions for you. Is Sony Music ever going to release a box set for Mariah Carey? Are they going to release a collection of all her videos on DVD when she was on their label?
The reason I am asking is that two of my favorite B-side songs she released on CD single are "Slipping Away" and "Do You Think of Me" and (neither) are available on any mainstream Carey album.
Thanks for reading! Jeff Savage, Salisbury, Md.
I reached out to Sony Legacy (the company's catalog division) and, at least in terms of what's on their upcoming release schedule, there isn't a Mariah Carey box set coming soon.
However, there is a "Love Songs" compilation album from the diva scheduled for release on Jan. 20, 2009. (Just in time for Valentine's Day!)
We're sure the set will feature many of Carey's best known hits, since many of them deal with relationships and love. The "Love Songs" series has been around a number of years now and usually carry a list price of $11.98.
Perhaps some of Carey's lesser-known gems (and b-sides) might make this album? Sure, it's doubtful, but you never know. And, since the album will be released Sony, it will likely only include her work that she did while on Columbia Records through 2000, before she left the label.
Mariah Carey's Scream Startles 'Tennessee' Co-Star
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 29-Aug-2008, 2:25PM EDT
Mariah Carey gets a lot of grief over being a bad actress - "Glitter," anyone? - but she was believable enough to fool her "husband."
Lance Reddick - who's known for his work on "The Wire" and "Lost" and will be a FBI agent on J.J. Abrams' upcoming television show "Fringe"- was cast late in the game for the upcoming movie "Tennessee" ("Honestly, they were going to go with a bigger name," Reddick said, "but they lost that someone"). So by the time he was signed up as Carey's character's husband Frank, "I had less than a week before we started shooting," Reddick said.
On his first day on set, he was slated to shoot a scene where Frank menances his wife Krystal, because she didn't buy the kind of beer he wanted for his card game. Krystal's a waitress who dreams of being a songwriter (at least the latter part is something Mariah could relate to). But she's married to a state trooper who believes that since he pays the bills, she better do what he wants.
"So on my first day, the first time I ever meet her, I have to go in cold and grab her arm and throw her against the wall," Reddick said. And while he was holding her by the neck, she screamed. Considering her multi-octave range, "I wouldn't even want to begin to imitate how that sounded," he said.
"I thought I hurt her," he added, "so I stopped. I said, 'Are you OK?' And she said, 'Hello? I'm acting.'"
Reddick was astonished. After that first take, they did the scene from start to finish a couple more times to get different angles, but since that moment, he's had a newfound respect for her.
"She was so committed to being a great actress," he said. "And she was."

Reid Mentions New Mariah Single in KIIS Interview
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 27-Aug-2008, 12:56AM EDT
IDJ Chairman L.A. Reid was in-studio at KIIS FM's On Air with Ryan Seacrest, broadcasting live from New York Tuesday morning, to talk about his all-star recording "Just Stand Up" - how they came up with the idea to do the song, and the logistics of getting all the ladies to record their respective parts. During the interview, he mentioned about his ongoing and upcoming projects that include "working on a single right now from Mariah" and as Randy Jackson suggested, "pushing the record 'I'm That Chick'."
Ryan Seacrest: Give me the premise on how this ["Just Stand Up"] all came together. L.A. Reid: This is exciting. We had a meeting with Laura Ziskin and a group of ladies who came to the office really to solicit our help, to help pull off this telethon called "Stand Up To Cancer" and as we got into it and I really started to feel the impact that it had on these particular ladies, cancer, I'm talking about cancer, and the impact that it had on them and I really wanted to get involved. They wanted a donation. I said, 'Well, the record business is in really tough times now. We can make a contribution but it will be in music. And we'll sell a song for you and all the proceeds will go to your telethon.' But the idea more than that was really to try to reach people and touch people where they have pain due to cancer and other serious illnesses and things like that. So we came up with this idea to do a song and called all these girls and all the girls said yes.
These girls really got us excited. Kenny Edmonds (Babyface) as you know (is) my partner for many, many years and we actually haven't produced a record together in a long time but we promised each other to do it and we promised it on many, many occasions and everytime we were supposed to do it, I wouldn't show up to the studio because I really was afraid that it would be dated. I thought it might sound dated. It's easy to tell people when the record sounds good but when you have to actually make the record I didn't want to be judged. Anyway, we went in the studio and we talked and came up with this idea and came out with something that we're really proud of.
Ryan: How do you get all, I'm just looking at the names: Mary J., Mariah and Sheryl and Fergie, how do you get those girls to coordinate their effort for one song? L.A.: Well, we called each one of them one at a time and everyone said yes. Everyone said yes they would do it. Now the logistics of getting everybody, oh my God, that was the nightmare! Getting people to say yes and to understand it was the easy. But we actually ended up recording each girl one at a time in different places. Kenny was flying all over the country. He really stood in the studio with everybody except Beyonce. We sent her the tapes. She did her part, sent it back to us. Ryan: Did anybody have to do it again? L.A.: No. There were people that we wanted to do it again to be honest. [Laughs] Ryan: I know it's charity but can we get another take? [Laughs]
Ryan: We talked about the charity project, what else is top priority for you right now? L.A.: Oh man, so many things. We're about to release a new album of Fall Out Boy, I'm excited about that. And The Killers, and Jay-Z and Kanye West is back in the studio, and Ludacris has an album coming. We're working singles right now from Duffy and from my girl Mariah Carey. So we have our hands full. We're working on a lot of things.
Randy Jackson: L.A. I just got to tell you man, L.A.'s got a record out Ryan that I love called "That Chick." L.A.: You like that record? Randy: I love that record, man. L.A.: So we should push that, right? Randy: We should push that record. Mariah Carey, That Chick. L.A.: Mariah, thank you. See, I needed that.

Tennessee to Play at Urbanworld Filmfest
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 25-Aug-2008, 2:32AM EDT
Tennessee is one of the featured "Spotlight" films at the 12th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival presented by BET Networks on September 10-14 in New York.
The screening venues for Tennessee will be at AMC 34th Street Theater (312 West 34th Street, between 8th & 9th Avenues) and Tribeca Film Center (375 Greenwich Street, between North Moore & Franklin 2nd Floor). Screening schedule and ticketing information will be posted as soon as available.
About Urbanworld Film Festival Urbanworld launched in August 1997 and was founded by former executive at Miramax Stacy Spikes. Over the past eleven years, Urbanworld has presented approximately 700 features, shorts and documentaries, with estimated attendance reaching 15,000+. Now in its twelfth year, the Urbanworld Film Festival is the largest internationally competitive festival of its kind. Urbanworld re-defines the competitive film festival landscape with its fresh and necessary approach to spreading the voices of a multicultural world.
Paying Her Dues "Most people don't think I've paid any dues, but I condensed ten years of work into three. It was like fast-forwarding. I worked around the clock. I would waitress until midnight, then go to the studio and work till seven in the morning on the album, then sleep, then do the whole thing again, day after day. No one helped me out, and I lived on very little money."
Less Is More "I wanted Emotions to be more sparsely produced than the first one, and for the most part it is. I also wanted to use the influence of all the music I loved, like Motown stuff and Stevie Wonder. I felt the uptempo songs were a little overproduced on the first record."
Comparisons to Whitney "A lot of people compare me to Whitney Houston, and I feel very uncomfortable discussing the comparisons. All I can say is, I know that when I'm doing an album, I like to be involved in the whole process: Songwriting, producing and singing. I'll go into the studio and have forty ideas of what I want to sing on a particular track and choose the best. I think Emotions will show a total separation between me and Whitney."
Different From Madonna "I'm not Madonna who demands attention, revels in controversy and loves performing. I don't want to be about hype and media. I don't want to put myself in everyone's face and make them sick of me at this early stage of my career. I make pop music. That's what I do, and it makes me happy. I want to be around for a while."

From In Touch, September 1 issue:
Mariah Wants To Have A Baby
As she raised a glass of champagne at a party in their honor on August 9, Mariah Carey only had eyes for Nick Cannon. "We have never been so happy. He is my other half," she declared as she toasted her husband of four months at the bash at L.A. Reid's mansion in New York's Hamptons.
Since marrying on April 30 in the Bahamas, Mariah has been busy promoting her new album E=MC² - but that's not the only important project the 39-year-old singer is working on. "She really wants a baby," reveals a friend. A witness at the Hamptons party says the couple may already be trying. "They slipped away early in the night to the guesthouse where they were staying," says the source. "They couldn't keep their hands off each other."
For Mariah, it's a big change of heart. A few weeks before marrying, she confessed that she wasn't ready for a baby. "It's hard to have kids in this world," she admitted. "I don't think I could properly educate a child right now. Maybe in the future, but for now, I enjoy my dog Jack's company."
But there could be one thing stopping Mariah and Nick, 27, from starting a family - her career. "She's so driven," the friend explains. "Work has always been her number-one priority." Dr. Joyce Brothers, who doesn't treat the singer, adds that this superstar diva might have some trouble putting a child's needs before her own. "The attention the baby will need will be difficult for Mariah," she tells In Touch. "But if she really wants it, she can make it work."
Mariah knows she's going to have to change for a child. "You have to take a backseat a little bit, and as someone in the public eye, you're not used to doing that," she admits. But friends of the couple are confident Mariah and Nick will make it work. Nick's pal Entertainment Tonight host Kevin Frazier, tells In Touch, "The timing couldn't be better. Nick would be a perfect father." Mariah couldn't agree more. "I couldn't imagine anybody that I've ever met being a better dad," she says.

Mariah's Make-Up Artist Paul Starr Found Dead
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 20-Aug-2008, 9:17PM EDT
A lot of times celebrities will refer to their make-up artists as their closest friends--they're not only there for the stars at those rough 6am wake up calls but prove to be confidants and advisors.
Celebrity make up artist Paul Starr, 48, who had worked with Angelina Jolie, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba and Renee Zellweger, was found dead after neighbors alerted the authorities. The cause of death is unknown at this time, according to WENN.
Starr, 48, had worked in the make-up industry for over two decades and won praise from Hollywood's elite. His works with Mariah included make-up design for The Emancipation of Mimi, as well as Playboy in 2005/2006, Glamour in 2007, and the most recent Elle photo shoot in May 2008.

That's when "Just Stand Up" hits airwaves and iTunes. The song features Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood. Other stars expected to turn out for the hourlong fund- and awareness-raising program include Jennifer Aniston, Lance Armstrong, Katie Couric, Sally Field, Salma Hayek, Meryl Streep, Forest Whitaker and Reese Witherspoon.
Founded in 2007, Stand Up to Cancer is a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation that calls on entertainment-industry people and platforms to help fight cancer.
Mariah Carey: Nick Is Like My Mom
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 18-Aug-2008, 11:50PM EDT
Mariah Carey may be one of the most successful pop musicians of all time, but there was a time when she went to bed hungry.
"I didn't have the money to get... even really enough food," she told Fashion Rocks magazine of her childhood.
Mariah, who was raised by a single mother, says the need for bare necessities helped drive her to stardom. The singer notched her 18th number one single with "Touch My Body" earlier this year, passing Elvis Presley's tally.
"From the time I was little, I had such a huge desire, and such an enormous ambition," she said.
This year has been more than just successful on the recording end for Mariah. She wed boyfriend Nick Cannon in May, and she told the special edition of the best qualities about her new husband, is how he comforts her like her mom.
"When I was a kid there was an ice storm in the suburbs... We went to Manhattan to stay with a friend of my mom's. There was nobody on the road. It was this moment that could've been scary for a kid, but she made it festive," Mariah recounted. "That's what Nick is like. He takes the hard part of a situation and makes it celebratory."

Italian Press: Mariah in Capri
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 15-Aug-2008, 6:08AM EDT
Mariah Carey is back to Capri and the island is going crazy. The American singer, who has not been to Capri for a while, entered the tourist harbor yesterday on board Amz. She and her new husband Nick Cannon rented a mega yacht. Her room has a private studio and a Jacuzzi for an incredible honeymoon in the Mediterranean. Among the many facilities of her floating hotel, there is a huge soft sofa, two dining rooms, a six meter tender to reach the shore, etc. Mariah didn't deceive anyone's expectations, her visit to Capri is that of an American star.
In her last video she shows the world the beauty of Capri and many fans are waiting to salute her on the island. By now she has only showed up on the bridge of the yacht with her husband, who has her name tattooed on his back.
Last time Mariah came to Capri she was a guest on Roberto Cavalli's yacht. She is expected to stay until next Saturday.

Ocean Style Magazine Interview
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 13-Aug-2008, 4:07PM EDT
Va-va-Mariah! As we go to press, the blogosphere is abuzz with Mariah's confirmation of her "secret" Bahamas wedding to the dreamy Nick Cannon -- matching tattoos and all. Her latest smoking-hot album E=MC² remains at the top of the charts, and she's never looked better (have you seen MC in a bikini lately?!) Yes, lambs, it's looking pretty fabulous to be Miss (Mrs.?) Mariah Carey these days.
Our own Editor-at-Large Jasmine Dotiwala caught up with her best friend -- our cover girl -- before the latest media storm, to bring you inside the marvelous world of Mariah Carey. Read on...
Tell us about E=MC² This album, it's so much about fun and freedom and just the continuation of me feeling emancipated. It's sort of like emancipation equals Mariah Carey times two. This is me, 100 percent... having fun, just being real. People ask me all the time: "How do you stay relevant, how do you stay current, how do you make music that people continue to respond to?" You just keep being real, keep being you. Stay true to who you are from the beginning.
How was working on this project different from your last album? It's really interesting because I didn't know what was going to happen with The Emancipation of Mimi. I was, of course, hoping for success, but the fact that it was such a massive worldwide phenomenon - I was so grateful and thankful to God for that gift and that blessing, that getting back in the studio was really, you know I really prayed to have something that I could be proud of and that I could be really inspired to go in there every day and sing or write a new song. Mariah Carey Admits What She Does Best
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 12-Aug-2008, 9:40AM EDT
Mariah Carey told me on Saturday night she does one thing very well. What is it?
What about singing? "Oh, that's business," she said with a laugh.
The occasion was about the most elegant, laid-back event of the Hamptons season so far, and also the most private: a belated wedding party for Mariah and her husband, actor Nick Cannon, at the home of Island Def Jam chief L.A. Antonio Reid and his gracious, beautiful wife, Erica.
It's the only party I can ever remember attending at which swans - yes, large white swans - were rented for the night and placed in the host's beautiful pond. I didn't know you could rent a swan. They come with handlers, in case you want to know.
The Reids' lavish Bridgehampton spread is low-key, and so was the party, even though DJ Cassidy was playing old-school R&B in a simple makeshift party tent. I was talking to Mariah and Nick when the music got fired up, prompting Mariah to declare, "I'm going to dance up a storm. It's the one thing I do really well!"
The one thing? Her legions of fans might beg to differ.
And Mariah did, indeed, dance to DJ Cassidy. She twirled and dipped and had a fine time. Meanwhile, the Reids' guests chowed down at various stations set up all over their backyard - on four different kinds of gourmet pizza, the best fried chicken and mac-and-cheese I've ever tasted and a selection of Greek treats.
Guests included her trusty manager, Benny Medina; plus Mary J. Blige with hubby, Kendu Isaacs; Samuel L. Jackson and wife, LaTonya Richardson; Russell Simmons; Gayle King; Jessica Seinfeld; Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa; opera great Kathleen Battle; producer-director Lee Daniels; Universal Music Chief Doug Morris; Kerzner Resorts' Jerry Inzerillo; and, oddly enough, Gwyneth Paltrow.
But back to Mariah and Nick. They are very cute together. He's really in love with her - it's quite obvious - and very protective. Mariah, who was married once a long time ago to a record executive, seems almost shocked to get so much attention. Good for her! Good for both of them!
L.A. Reid Hosts Party for Mariah & Nick
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 11-Aug-2008, 10:12PM EDT
Island Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid hosted a "Summer of Love" bash Saturday night at his Hamptons home to mark the recent marriage of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon.
The star-studded affair drew a who's-who of execs and stars, including UMG Chairman/CEO Doug Morris and wife Monique, IDJ President/COO Steve Bartels, manager Benny Medina, Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson, Gayle King, Mary J. Blige, Ciara, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, LL Cool J, Tyler Perry, Rick and Kathy Hilton, Star Jones, Russell Simmons and Lee Daniels.
From Women's Wear Daily: Gwyneth Paltrow and others headed to a party at L.A. Reid's Sagaponack pad for Mariah Carey and her new husband, Nick Cannon. For those who have been living under a rock, Mimi's emancipation ended in June when she married Cannon, a 27-year-old rapper and actor whom she'd been dating briefly. Napkins at the party said "Summer of Love" and though some have wondered whether the marriage would last longer than that, the couple's behavior on the dance floor suggested the relationship is still going very strong. "They were all over each other," said one guest. "It was really cute."
Seen gadding about were LL Cool J, Samuel L. Jackson, Gayle King, Kelly Ripa and Star Jones.
From New York Post: Mariah Carey, who got married in April, finally got to celebrate. Carey and hubby Nick Cannon were feted at Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid's Sagaponack home Saturday night. Reid "did it up," said a spy, and hired Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs to festoon his house with flowers and candles. Guests, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Ripa, Samuel L. Jackson and Star Jones, were having such a good time, neighbors called police at midnight with noise complaints. The newlyweds are spending the rest of the week at a farm in East Hampton they rented for $125,000.

MARIAH CAREY Lay, Lady, Lay. The Diva in repose. by Michael Joseph Gross
Over the years, many have dismissed Mariah Carey as nothing more than a freakish vocal acrobat. Her melismatic runs commonly hit a dozen or more tones in a single syllable, and her range pierces the whistle register; few but dolphins can sing higher. Some sneered at her weakness for hot pants and halters in the 1990s; others called Carey a lightweight because of her kitschy passion for butterflies and Hello Kitty. (She has described herself as being "eternally twelve" innumerable times). Yet in fact, Mariah Carey is Long Island's answer to Dolly Parton, a woman whose bodacious body and over-the-top style have distracted many people from her rare and substantial talent.
By the time you read this, Carey's newest single will probably have inched her one notch closer to overtaking the Beatles' world record for the most number-one songs. (They had 20; this spring, she knocked Elvis Presley out of second place with "Touch My Body," her eighteenth.) At the age of 38, Mariah Carey is the best-selling female recording artist in history. She has written and produced more number-one songs than any other female composer or producer, and was the first mainstream artist to blend pop with R&B and hip-hop.
Carey's multiethnic background is often cited as a source of her eclectic sound and style. (She was raised by her mother, an opera singer of Irish heritage, and barely knew her father, an aeronautical engineer who was part African-American and Venezuelan). Less noted, but equally important, is her ambiguous class identification. As with most bling-besotted female singers, Carey's aspiration to G4 style seems an effort to make up for her bridge-and-tunnel background. Unlike some other strivers', though, her reaching seems optimistic, not angry. Carey's appeal, again like Parton's, owes much to her mirthful candor about the longing that drives her. "From the time I was little, I had such a huge desire, and such an enormous ambition, driven mainly by the fact that I didn't have the money to get the latest outfits, or even really enough food," she says. When describing her new love--after a courtship that lasted exactly one month, Carey was married in April to the 27-year-old actor and rapper Nick Cannon--she roots her remarks within a childhood memory: "When I was a kid there was an ice storm in the suburbs," she says. "We went to Manhattan to stay with a friend of my mom's. There was nobody on the road. It was this moment that could have been scary for a kid, but she made it festive. That's what Nick is like: He takes the hard part of a situation and makes it celebratory."
These days, Carey has much to celebrate. In addition to the success of her new album, E=MC², which debuted at number one, she won praise at the Tribeca Film Festival for her performance as a waitress in the independent movie Tennessee. Next, she'll play a social worker in a film adaptation of Sapphire's verse novel PUSH, then make a feature-length HBO musical adaptation of Merry Christmas, her 1994 holiday album--which is, by the way, the best-selling Christmas album...of all time.

Audio: Mariah on XM 20 on 20
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 09-Aug-2008, 10:50PM EDT
Mariah hosted her own exclusive Diva Weekend show on the satellite radio XM Channel 20's 20 on 20 this weekend, playing her favorite tracks from her new album, E=MC², and songs from other artists.
1. "Lollipop" - Lil' Wayne "Let's just start off with 'Lollipop' by Lil Wayne. I like this song because it's festive so here it is on 20 on 20."
2. "American Boy" - Estelle ft. Kanye West "Hey, it's Mariah inside the 20 and this is 'American Boy,' Estelle featuring Kanye West and I picked this song because I think it's like an eclectic type of collaboration. I really like the record itself and I think you'll enjoy it. Let's get into it inside the 20."
3. "Shake It Off" "This is Mariah Carey or you can call me Mimi and I am here, up here at XM taking over, my favorites, if you will, and I'm gonna go to a song that is an actual, it was the #1 R&B song and it was the #2 pop song but I think it went to #1 on the radio charts so that's what I'm gonna go with. And because this person had a different name even though this person is me, from The Emancipation of Mimi album, I'm gonna go with 'Shake It Off' which I just got to, I just have to say Mimi as a new artist really did her thing on that particular record [laughs]. And I have to shout-out to Jermaine Dupri for incredible production. Let's get into it."
4. "Closer" - Ne-Yo "Hey, it's Mariah. We're inside the 20. Now, I would like to get into a song by a very, very talented writer and artist and I believe he's a producer as well. He kind of does everything. He has a very, very hot song on this countdown right now. Let's get into 'Closer.' Here we go, it's Ne-Yo."
5. "I Stay In Love" "And we're back inside the 20. I am Mariah and I've been here with you guys. It's been very, very festive. I'm gonna be doing this. I really, really do love being on the radio like if I didn't make records, I would like to do radio. I need a really good producer though because it does get confusing trying to remember all these things to talk about so I definitely am having a good time today with everybody here at XM helping me out, helping me do this, helping me get it together as I need to. Anyway, I have something else coming up that sounds like it's gonna be a good time which is The Jimmy Kimmel Show. Last time I did the show he was very understanding 'cause I was a little late to the show and he was understanding but he did put the cameras on me as I was pulling up a little bit late so please check that out. I'm gonna get into another song from my most recent album. The album that has 'Loving U Long Time' and 'Touch My Body' on it. It is called E=MC² and right now I want to play a song called 'I Stay In Love.' A lot of people like this song. They tell me that they think it should be the next single but again I need your help so let me know. You can go to Mariah... well you could go to any one of my websites but really you should go to MariahCarey.com. Just vote. Let us know."
6. "Touch My Body" "Hey, it's Mariah inside the 20. Here is a song that reminds me of my husband, my new husband Nick. It's 'Touch My Body' from E=MC², my latest album and I think that a lot of people liked that song because I wrote it before, the whole world knew about our relationship which I didn't but seems like I did so let's get into it inside the 20."
7. "Juicy" - Notorious B.I.G. "We are going to get into my #1 party song. I guess that's going to be really difficult for me 'cause I like a lot of different party songs for my own personal reasons. But, let's see, what do I wanna go with today for a party song? What's my favorite party song today? Do I wanna go old school, say something new...hmm, I would say let's go with 'Juicy' by Biggie because I think everybody has their own memories of that song and I think it's an undeniable smash hit so let's go with that song."
8. "Forever" - Chris Brown "Here's Chris Brown, 'Forever.' And I chose this 'cause he's a very talented artist. I just wanted to play his record today. I think this is a really nice song. Here it is inside the 20, 'Forever' by Chris Brown.' Let's go."
9. "Fantasy" Remix ft. O.D.B. "My #1 favorite Mariah Carey song. So, after much deliberation I would have to say it is, drumroll please, 'Fantasy' featuring Ol' Dirty Bastard, may he rest in peace and I think the best version of the song is 'Fantasy' featuring O.D.B. so let's get into that right now."
10. "I Luv Your Girl" - The-Dream "We're gonna do my #1 love song right now. There's a lot of love songs, I don't know, it's difficult for me to choose one but since we're gonna stay a little bit au courant at the moment, a little current, a little current, I'm gonna go with The-Dream, 'Luv Your Girl,' because that's the song that I kind of like. I feel close to 'cause I heard it before the record came out. It was a favorite and we wrote(?) the song together so let's go with Dream 'Luv Your Girl' inside the 20."
11. "Side Effects" "I've been having a good time today taking over this moment. Got a lot of things I'm excited about - launching my newest fragrance 'Luscious Pink,' it is luscious and it's pink [laughs]. No, it actually smells really good. It's one of those things that's not too strong. It's really nice and I worked really hard putting it together so hopefully you will check that out. You can get it at Macy's or you can just check out MariahCareyBeauty.com to find that. It's kind of like a flirtatious scent, that's the best way I could describe it. It's like a playful, sensual, flirtatious moment. Get that, pick it up and even if it's just anybody out there, any guys out there, just pick it up, get it for your girlfriend, your wife, your whatever... family member, it doesn't matter. And the girls I think you're gonna love this, the bottle is really pretty too. Anyway, another thing that's going on in my life, let's see, let's see, let's see. Let's go into another single right now or potential single. I want you guys to pick what you think if anybody wants to pick their favorite song out of this couple songs from my latest album, E=MC². Let's get into 'Side Effects' featuring Young Jeezy. A lot of people like this record and I think I might perform on one of the shows coming up. Oh, that was my communication device going off so let me check that out while you check this song out."
12. "Greenlight" - John Legend ft. Andre 3000 "Let's get into some new music now from John Legend featuring Andre 3000, 'Greenlight' inside the 20. Let's go."
13. "Love Story" "My #1 song that reminds me of my husband Nick. Actually, we're going into a song from my new album, E=MC², in stores now. And that's gonna be 'Love Story.' I think that a lot of people like that song because first of all, it's a collabo between me and Jermaine Dupri and people tend to like those, and I'm very grateful for that because we've had a lot of success together so let's get into it. I'm gonna send it out to Nick, dedicated to him with lots of love, it's called 'Love Story'."
14. "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" "Thanks for hanging out with me, Mariah Carey, and this is my final pick and my #1 song, 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time,' by me Mariah Carey. It's been fun. Thanks for hanging with me. Buh-bye!
15. "Low" - Flo Rida ft. T-Pain (short intro, not recorded)

Sandler Talks About Zohan and Mariah
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 09-Aug-2008, 9:41AM EDT
Adam Sandler, talking about his new film You Don't Mess with the Zohan with UK's The Press and Journal, mentioned Mariah in a recent interview:
"She was great, great girl. I met Mariah a long time ago on Saturday Night Live. Then, when we wrote in the original draft, we thought it was cool that the only thing that the Israelis and Palestinians could agree on was that Mariah Carey was hot. While on set, she worked hard and I got to listen to her new album. I was in the room with her deciding which should be the first single."
Billboard Reviews "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"

I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time MARIAH CAREY Producers: Aldrin "DJ Toomp" Davis, Mariah Carey Label: Island
Lady Mariah's third single from 11th album "E=MC2--following chart-topping "Touch My Body" and top 20 "Bye Bye"--energizes the beat following the previous pair of midtempo soul tracks. "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" offers a playful, beach-befitting groove, featuring a bright sample from DeBarge's "Stay With Me," lushly woven vocals and Carey's highs doting on fans with her sonic signature. T.I. joins the party with a rap that adds star power, if in a dated context. Beyond radio appeal, "Lovin'" is featured in an Indaba Music remix contest, with a $5,000 prize for the victor. Curiously, it garnered dubious acclaim as Carey's first single to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 as low as No. 100, but that's surely a temporary blip; it's already charted as her 45th entry on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In short order, "Long Time" will be blaring across formats, and radios, from coast to coast. --Chuck Taylor
Mariah on Billboard's All-Time Hot 100
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 08-Aug-2008, 6:26PM EDT
Fifty years ago, in the Aug. 4, 1958, issue, Billboard launched a revolutionary chart called the Hot 100. After nearly two decades of tracking songs distinctively by sales or plays (on jukeboxes and at radio), the Hot 100 was the first list to measure popularity by incorporating both radio play and sales. Scoring the chart's inaugural No. 1 was Ricky Nelson with "Poor Little Fool." Billboard.com is celebrating this milestone in a big way, as it posts all kinds of Hot 100-based charts each week leading up the September unveiling of our special All-Time Hot 100 chart and the commemorative Hot 100 Anniversary issue of Billboard Magazine.
From Keith Caulfield's Ask Billboard this week: Q: Mariah Carey is the female artist with the most No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Since some of her hits only spent one or two weeks at the top, I was wondering who is the artist with the most weeks at number one is. Can you answer this? A: Mariah Carey is both the woman with the most No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 singles (with 18) and the overall artist with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (with 79).
Mariah's No. 1 Singles 1990: "Vision Of Love" (4 weeks) 1990: "Love Takes Time" (3 weeks) 1991: "Someday" (2 weeks) 1991: "I Don't Wanna Cry" (2 weeks) 1991: "Emotions" (3 weeks) 1992: "I'll Be There" (2 weeks) 1993: "Dreamlover" (8 weeks) 1993: "Hero" (4 weeks) 1995: "Fantasy" (8 weeks) 1995: "One Sweet Day" (16 weeks) 1996: "Always Be My Baby" (2 weeks) 1997: "Honey" (3 weeks) 1998: "My All" (1 week) 1999: "Heartbreaker" (2 weeks) 2000: "Thank God I Found You" (1 week) 2005: "We Belong Together" (14 weeks) 2005: "Don't Forget About Us" (2 weeks) 2008: "Touch My Body" (2 weeks) Total weeks: 79
Rumor Mill: Mariah's Summer Splurge
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 08-Aug-2008, 6:08AM EDT
Mariah Carey is finally getting the wedding party she always dreamed about.
Sources say Carey paid an astounding $125,000 to rent Stone Meadow Farm in East Hampton for one week this month. At the 10-bedroom, 18,000 square-foot, 8-acre spread, the diva and her new hubby, Nick Cannon, will "chill out" - as opposed to whatever else they've been doing since they married. But we hear she's also finally getting around to celebrating her quickie April wedding to Cannon. The party will be hosted by Def Jam boss L.A. Reid, and all the guests who bought Carey presents through her Bergdorf Goodman registry can finally toast the couple.
If all goes well, Carey has the option to buy Stone Meadow, which is listed at just under $20 million and is the site of the Red Cross Ball on Aug. 23. Carey's rep and Corcoran listing agent Gary DePersia had no comment.
OK!: Mariah & Nick's Romantic Getaway
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 08-Aug-2008, 1:50AM EDT
The honeymoon continues for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. The newlyweds, who married in a low-key ceremony in the Bahamas in May, were the picture of wedded bliss as they frolicked by the sea in the West Indies. Nick surprised his wife with the luxurious trip after she finished her new video for the single "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time."
A source close to the couple says, "Nick loves to whisk her off for romantic breaks." And judging by the way they cuddled and kissed, Mariah clearly loved her present. "It's really sweet to see them together," says the source. "They're always laughing. Mariah's got a wicked sense of humor, and she's found her match in Nick. We've never seen her so happy!"

Elvis demoted in new Billboard historic chart
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 07-Aug-2008, 4:37PM EDT
Poor Elvis. Random sightings of the King of Rock 'n' Roll have tapered off in recent years, and now he has mysteriously disappeared from the upper echelons of a new list that ranks the artists with the most No. 1 hits on the U.S. pop singles chart.
Until April, Elvis Presley and Mariah Carey tied at No. 2 on Billboard's list of the top acts of the rock era with 17 No. 1 tunes each, behind the Beatles with 20.
But then Carey took sole possession of the silver medal when her single "Touch My Body" hit the top spot. That should still make Presley No. 3, but not according to Billboard which has demoted him to No. 14 with seven No. 1 hits, a ranking he now shares with Phil Collins.
The music publication is rolling out a series of charts to mark the 50th anniversary of its Hot 100 singles chart. The problem for Presley fans is that 10 of his chart-toppers predated the August 4, 1958, birth of the Hot 100.
Rumor Mill: Will Mariah Carey be holding Hamptons wedding reception?
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 06-Aug-2008, 8:23PM EDT
Will there be a celebrity wedding at music mogul L.A. Reid's Sagaponack home after all?
Last summer, the wedding between singer Usher and fiancee Tameka Foster which was set to unfold at Reid's Hamptons home was abruptly canceled at the last minute. The couple eventually tied the knot in Atlanta.
But there's a chance that Reid may be host to another star-studded union as early as this weekend.
A source tells Newsday that singers Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are set to hold their wedding reception at Reid's estate this Saturday. The couple's marriage ceremony was held April 8 in the Bahamas.
Carey and Reid could not be reached for comment.
A Hamptons wedding would bring Carey back to her Long Island roots. She was born in Huntington and attended Harborfields High School. Cannon is a California native.
Reid's home is reportedly a 7,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, five-bath spread on 3.27 acres, with a swimming pool, pond and tennis courts. Public records show that Reid, who is chairman of The Island Def Jam Music Group, bought the home on Sagg Main for $10 million in 2006.
Cri$tyle Talks About Mariah in Australian Interview
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 06-Aug-2008, 6:56AM EDT
The Australian hip-hop and R&B magazine Rhyme & Reason recently had the opportunity to chat with Cri$tyle 'The Ink' Johnson, the songwriter responsible for co-penning Mariah's smash hit "Touch My Body," along with several other cuts off E=MC² including; "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," "Cruise Control," "Side Effects," and "Heat."
"Touch My Body" is a very playful song, and perhaps Mariah's most raunchy to date. Were there any apprehensions about taking that direction with the song? Nah, Mariah loves to have fun and be sexy all at the same time. We laughed a lot during the writing process, so there wasn't any hesitation with writing that one.
I understand you have just hit the studio with Mariah once again to work on a remix. What can you tell us about the track? We're working on a special project that I'm really excited about. I'm not really at liberty to talk about it right now, but Mariah fans are going to be in for a huge treat!
While you have forged a strong relationship with Mariah, there must be instances where you don't connect with your collaborator on a personal level. How does this affect the creative process? Everytime I work with an artist, I try to become them for that moment. That way I can write the song as if I am that person, going through whatever they may be going through. So as far as the music is concerned, I channel the artist whether there is a connection or not. But it was a lot more fun workin' with MC because of the friendship that was developed. A lot more laughs than usual. [Laughing]

No. 1 Song Milestones
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 05-Aug-2008, 5:46PM EDT
Mariah graced Yahoo!'s main page earlier today in a featured article from E! Online about the no.1 song milestones in the history of Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. Her 1995 duet with Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day," tops E! Online's list of Hot 100 highlights. Read the article below.
From Beatles to Michael to Mariah, 50 Years of Counting Down the Hits The Hot 100 just turned the big 5-0. The seminal singles chart turned a half-century-old today, having made its Billboard magazine debut on Aug. 4, 1958. Ricky Nelson's "Poor Little Fool" topped the inaugural Hot 100 chart, which covered the week ended Aug. 9, and nearly a 1,000 songs have graced its perch since.
In celebration of its silver anniversary, here's our own hit list of Hot 100 highlights:
Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's 1995 single "One Sweet Day" holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 with 16. 1987's Bad landed five No. 1 singles to give Michael Jackson the most chart-toppers ever from a single album. In '95, Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" became the first song ever to debut at No. 1. Unfortunately, it's also his last song to reach No. 1. In '64, the Beatles became the first band to replace itself at No. 1 when "She Loves You" topped "I Want to Hold Your Hand," their very first U.S. chart-topper. "Can't Buy Me Love" then hit No. 1 to make the Beatles the only group to string together three consecutive chart-toppers. Rest of highlights here.
In the 15 years before the birth of the Hot 100, songs were tracked on three different charts divided by store sales, radio spins and jukebox play.
By early 1958, the jukebox chart had been discontinued, and the new countdown, titled the Top 100, was the first to combine sales and spins. By August of that year, the Top 100 was rechristened the Hot 100, and it has remained the industry standard ever since.
For you history buffs, the Hot 100 debuted at a time when Eisenhower was president, there were only 48 U.S. states and gas set you back 25 cents a gallon.

Fan Review/Photos: Summer Krush Mini-Concert
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 02-Aug-2008, 12:12AM EDT
Our friend Danielle gives us a recap of Mariah's Summer Krush mini-concert at the Babylon Court in Hollywood & Highland Center, Los Angeles, California on Thursday, July 31st:
Uh-Oh Those Summer Nights... Hollywood swayed under the pressure of much more than just the ripple of a Southern California earthquake this week. First there was the LA TV Fest which had been going on at the Hollywood & Highland complex, in the heart of the city, all week, and then Thursday evening Samsung and AT&T presented their second annual Summer Krush Groove Concert series. Tied into a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Babylon Court was transformed into a somewhat subdued white and purple stage for a mini-concert from none other than Ms. Mariah Carey.
As usual the fans came out in droves; some waited in line for twelve hours just to be ensured to be front and center. How many opportunities will they have to see their idol up close and personal for free? Well the die-hards carry signage and scrapbooks to each event, eager to share with other Lambs just how dedicated they really are, and there was no shortage of that at this event, either. The luckiest ones may have been those who arrived early, though, as Mariah's back-up singers (including solo artist Trey Lorenz!) performed a sound check and gave everyone a sneak peek at the evening's set list, which included four tracks from E=MC² and two from fan favorite The Emancipation of Mimi. A combination of Honey B. Fly VIPs and radio contest winners filled out the "pit" at the base of the stage, aglow with camera phone screens, but fans snaked all around the walkways on each level to watch the incomparable performance. A few lucky dinner patrons even managed to just "happen by" the event while dining outside. Definitely something to write in your "What I Did On My Summer Vacation" report!
Jimmy Kimmel crossed the street at 8:30 PST to introduce the first song of Mariah's set, and he could barely be heard over the echoing screams and cheers. As always, she was in top form, performing "Touch My Body," "Side Effects" with special guest Young Jeezy, "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" (despite some of the hard hits it's been getting in recent media for its stereotype) and "I'm That Chick" before closing the show with "Shake It Off" and the always hauntingly stunning "We Belong Together." Husband Nick Cannon was nowhere in sight, but longtime manager Benny Medina was seen taking in the crowd just briefly before Mariah made it to the stage. Even fellow Kimmel guest Dan Abrams got in on the action and was escorted to the stage to meet the pop diva. But stereotypical diva she most certainly was not: in between set-ups, Mariah talked to the audience and read some of the signs aloud. Though only the first two songs were set to air on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mariah amazed her crowd of thousands with six full tracks.
Even the fans that braved the Hollywood heat for hours on end came away smiling (if a bit sweaty) and calling their friends to tell them how great the experience was. Though it's only the second year, with the success of booking such a big name artist, Summer Krush Groove has proved it has the chops to become a Must See summer concert series. Obviously it will be around for years to come, though it's a little hard to assume it could be any bigger or better than it was tonight.
Below are pictures taken before the event: HBF Fanclub, 1Iota and radio contest winners line-up to get entry to the concert venue; "Luscious Pink" t-shirt and sampler handed out to winners; and the Babylon Court between 6pm & 7pm.

And, Mariah sat down for an interview with Jimmy Kimmel prior to performing at her "Summer Krush" concert. The interview and her first two performances: "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time/Touch My Body" Medley with Young Jeezy, and "Side Effects" were aired on the delayed telecast of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 1st, 12:05am on ABC.
In the interview, Mariah, who was ecstatic to be on time for a change, talked a lot about her marriage to Nick Cannon: She mentioned the tattoos they both got, and how they kept her wedding a secret by telling everyone they were going to shoot a video. Mariah said it was the first time she was in California when an earthquake occured and asked the audience "how do you guys handle that?"
Jimmy asked Mariah about her new video and the experience of swimming with dolphins, which Mariah said she loves to do. Apparently, one of the dolphins Mariah swam with was a "whalphin" (part whale, part dolphin).
Mariah introduced her new "Luscious Pink" bottle and Jimmy showed her his way of spraying it on, which just isn't as good as Mariah's famous "spirtz & spray". Jimmy asked Mariah about being friends with Stevie Wonder and she talked about how much she loves him as a friend and how touching it was to read the piece he wrote about her for Time's magazine "Most Influencial People" list. Lastly, Jimmy showed footage of Mariah's infamous pitch at the baseball match in Japan and Mariah was a great sport about it.
Mariah Carey gets efficient on Hollywood Boulevard
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 01-Aug-2008, 2:37PM EDT
Mariah Carey may now largely avoid the daring vocal acrobatics that marked the beginning of what would become one of the most successful music careers of the last two decades. Hitting the high notes, therefore, wasn't much of a concern Thursday night in Hollywood. Instead, the singer faced other challenges.
Chief among them: Can one of the most recognizable divas in the world emerge from what looked to be a giant plastic mascara box -- one that's placed upon a stage in the middle of a shopping mall -- with grace? And do so while ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is coming back from a commercial break?
But Carey's every stride comes equipped with a happy elegance that would shame beauty pageants the world over. Indeed, while she was performing a free five-song mini-set at Hollywood & Highland's outdoor mall, which was taped for ABC's late-night show, Carey might as well have been on a moving parade float, as nary a verse or a chorus was sung without a wave, a nod or a wink to a fan.
That's not to say Thursday evening went off without a hitch. It was a little more than an hour before the 8:30 p.m. show time, and a crisis was brewing. A podium for photographers had been placed stage left, but this would fail to capture Carey's good side. It must, those working the show bustled, be moved to frame Carey's right side at once.
By the time Kimmel introduced Carey, everything was in its right place, and the singer offered a swift medley of current single "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" and "E=MC2's" runaway hit "Touch My Body." A few minutes later, the singer even stopped to let the crowd photograph her. "Let me pose," she said, asking the audience to shoot her "at the angle I prefer."
A crowd estimate wasn't available from on-site security, but earlier Kimmel's music booker, Scott Igoe, said about 1,000 people would be allowed on the ground floor and an additional 1,000-plus around the upper levels. Some, such as 21-year-old L.A.-resident Stephanie De La Cruz, had been there as early as 9 a.m., and she said she would have been there 24 hours before that had her mother let her.
What they witnessed was a brief but professional showing and an unbilled appearance from Southern rapper Young Jeezy. He joined Carey on "Side Effects," his gruff intonations providing a surprisingly effective counterbalance to Carey's pleasantly light phrasing.
Since her career rebirth with 2005's "The Emancipation of Mimi," Carey has abandoned the wild vocal wailing that gave rise to "American Idol" and has emerged a thinner-voiced, but far more efficient, singer. Check "I'm That Chick," where the lyrics are embarrassing drivel (Carey compares herself to ice cream), but she was able to somehow pull it off by letting her voice sway with the song's rhythmic R&B shuffle.
The concert was the latest from Kimmel's show to be performed out on the streets of Hollywood, which launched in 2003 with an appearance by Coldplay on Hollywood Boulevard. Although most Kimmel performances happen inside the studio across from the Hollywood & Highland complex, or on the outdoor stage behind the studio, that wasn't the original intention.
"We had this grandiose idea when the show started that we'd be doing these concerts every Friday night on Hollywood Boulevard," Igoe said. "Then they saw the price tag. 'Oh, $250,000 every Friday night? Don't think so.' "
Now, the happenings are largely contingent on sponsors or record labels chipping in to defray costs, and Carey's performance was part of a national summer concert series from electronics company Samsung. Although Kimmel didn't have to close Hollywood Boulevard to have Carey perform, Igoe put the production costs as "probably about $250,000," noting that Carey doesn't come cheap. "There was a financial contribution Samsung had to make on top of the production to get her out here," he said.
To those who had spent their day getting sunburned waiting for Carey, it was money well spent. When a group of fans was asked why it was worth 12 hours of standing in the Los Angeles heat to see a five-song set, this reporter was booed by the crowd for suggesting such a negative question.
Other notes: A diva becomes human: Carey is a pro, and her between-song banter consists of pointing out audience member T-shirts and reading aloud their signs. One female fan caught her eye, holding a placard that declared that she had left her 14 children at home to see Carey perform. Said Carey, "You left your 14 kids for me? Seriously? Wow." A moment later a member of Carey's team came onstage to help the singer get ready for the next song. Said Carey to her staffer, "That literally said she left her 14 kids...."
The sentence trailed off when it was pointed out to Carey that the microphone was on. She smiled, turned to the crowd, and said, "It happens."
So what was in the bag? Before Carey disappeared offstage for a commercial break, she teased the crowd with this: "I haven't forgotten to bring my bag of festivities with me, so I'll be distributing that in a second." A bag of festivities? Joy! Yet when Carey returned, she carried no bag.
