Hurricane Ruins Secret 'X-Factor' Plans
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 29-Aug-2011, 5:24PM EDT
Hurricane Irene is screwing with Simon Cowell's new show -- TMZ has learned Mariah Carey had to cancel a "very important" video shoot for "X-Factor" because she couldn't travel and that it's thrown the show into "utter chaos."

Sources connected to the show tell TMZ Mariah is in New York and was supposed to fly to meet Simon at a secret location to begin taping a special segment for the show in the last few days.

Cowell has stated in the past that Mariah has an important role on the show -- but he's not revealing any details.

Sources tell TMZ producers are trying to figure out another way to get the footage they need for the show but so far, nothing is in the can.

Nick on Mariah Losing the Baby Weight
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 27-Aug-2011, 12:35PM EDT
Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon is as supportive as they come. The new father of twins says his wife will not only get the baby weight off, but she's going to look like she did back in 1990!

OK! spoke with Nick at the America's Got Talent show last night about how difficult it has been for him working and balancing spending time with his babies.

"It's the toughest thing in the world leaving my family in general, not just my children, but my wife," he said. "Knowing that she is there with them being mommy, I don't want to miss any of those moments!"

Nick and Mariah welcome their twins, Moroccan and Monroe Cannon, into the world on April 30.

For Nick, having the twins has been nothing but a blessing. "There is no "worst" part at all. Everything is amazing about fatherhood," Nick explained to OK!. "The best part is when they communicate with you and they recognize you. It's the best."

Mariah has been not only Tweeting photos of her precious pair, but also of her post-baby body – and she looks great!

"She is getting it off," Nick said of Mariah losing the baby weight. "She is about to be 1990 again!"

Brazilian Fans Celebrate 1st Year of Barretos
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 26-Aug-2011, 2:25AM EDT
Last year, on August 21st, Mariah performed before an adoring and roaring sold out audience at the Festa Do Peão de Boiadeiros in Barretos, São Paulo, Brazil. That magical night of Mariah live on stage has left the Brazilian fans mesmerized, it was a special moment that they will never forget.

Last Sunday, August 21st, Brazilian fans in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro gathered in two separate parties to commemorate the first anniversary of Mariah's Barretos concert.

SÃO PAULO
The party, largely organized by Leonardo Matthew, was held in the ballroom of the condominium where Leonardo resides. Rafael writes, "It was great fun! The party had all the excitement and joy of the lambs for this day is so special. There were some games and prizes like a wall clock with a picture of Mariah, Glitter DVD and CD Single 'My All'."

Rafael fondly remembers the Barretos show in a video (see below) he created for the occasion. "My greatest dream is to show Mariah how much we, Brazilian lambs, loved it."

RIO DE JANEIRO
Anna Beatriz and her fellow Mariah fans from Rio de Janeiro had their anniversary party at Norte Shopping last Sunday. She tells us, "It was a pity it was raining and cold; but we had a lot of fun!"

The video below shows some highlights from the Rio de Janeiro party; and clips from their 15-hour trip from Rio to Barretos last year just to see Mariah.

When the last drop of champagne has been sipped, and the last of a fond memory has been shared, it was time to call it a night... but one thing was for sure, they unanimously declared, "We love you, Mariah! Come back to Brazil!"

X Factor: Mariah Will Appear – But Not as a Judge
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 23-Aug-2011, 7:52PM EDT
It's official – Mariah Carey will appear on this fall's buzzy new talent competition, The X Factor, a source close to the show tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Carey won't be a judge, but rather a guest of a judge – in this case Simon Cowell, who hinted recently the diva was interested in joining the show.

"Mariah is definitely confirmed to be a part of X Factor," the source says. "She is confirmed to tape something with Simon Cowell at the judge's homes."

And Carey won't be the only celeb guest, the source adds.

"Each of the judges will tape something with mentors they have selected and Simon has selected Mariah to do that with him. The judge's mentor the talent they pick and she will be working with them," says the source.

Katy Perry Scores 5th #1, Joins Hot 100's Elite
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 18-Aug-2011, 7:17PM EDT
Katy Perry's historic fifth No. 1 on the Hot 100 from her "Teenage Dream" album makes her one of only seven artists in the history of the Hot 100 to put together a string of five or more consecutive chart-toppers, placing her in esteemed company that includes Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey.

"Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" is the fifth No. 1 in a row from Perry's "Teenage Dream" album. The run began with "California Gurls" and continued with the title track, "Firework" and "E.T."

It's not as rare as collecting five No. 1s from one album, but it's still an infrequent accomplishment for any artist to have five or more consecutive singles reach the top of the Hot 100. Elvis Presley did it with "A Big Hunk o' Love," "Stuck on You," "It's Now or Never," "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" and "Surrender," between 1959-1961. The first group to rack up five No. 1s in a row on the Hot 100 was the Supremes. In 1964-65, the Motown trio scored with "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," "Come See About Me," "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Back in My Arms Again."

The Beatles had six consecutive No. 1s between 1964-1966 with "I Feel Fine," "Eight Days a Week," "Ticket to Ride," "Help!," "Yesterday" and "We Can Work It Out" although, like Presley, all of those singles had flip sides that either charted on the main Hot 100 or the Bubbling Under tally.

In 1977, the Bee Gees also started a run of six consecutive No. 1s that ran through 1979, starting with three titles from the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack: "How Deep Is Your Love," "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever." This trio was followed directly by another hat trick of No. 1s: "Too Much Heaven," "Tragedy" and "Love You Inside Out," all from the "Spirits Having Flown" LP.

Whitney Houston's second Arista single, "Saving All My Love for You," started a run of seven consecutive No. 1s for her that ran from 1985-1988 and included "How Will I Know," "Greatest Love of All," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)," "Didn't We Almost Have It All," "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go." This accomplishment requires an asterisk, as Arista released a single, "Thinking About You" between "Saving All My Love for You" and "How Will I Know," but it was only promoted to R&B radio, not pop radio. It peaked at No. 10 on Billboard's R&B singles chart and never appeared on the Hot 100.

As previously reported, Michael Jackson is the only other artist to have five No. 1s on the Hot 100 from one album. In 1987-88, Jackson had five consecutive chart-toppers from "Bad": "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana."

Mariah Carey made her Hot 100 debut in June 1990 with "Vision of Love," which was the first of five No. 1s in a row, including "Love Takes Time," "Someday," "I Don't Wanna Cry" and "Emotions." She had another run of five No. 1s from 1995 to 1998 with "Fantasy," "One Sweet Day," "Always Be My Baby," "Honey" and "My All." Carey's first run of five No. 1s in a row carries an additional unique distinction: they were her first five titles to chart on the Hot 100.

Sandra Bernhard Talks About Mariah
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 16-Aug-2011, 11:44AM EDT
Stand-up comedienne Sandra Bernhard talked about Mariah in a recent interview with Frontiers LA.

You have an interesting relationship with Mariah Carey. Can you say something about your history with discussing her in your performances?
You know, I've always found Mariah Carey to be incredibly talented, otherwise I probably wouldn't waste my time talking about her. She's always–as we know, Mariah is intense. [Laughs] You know, she takes it way out there, she's completely over the top. Like, years ago when she first started doing her stuff with rap artists, laying around in her videos in hotel rooms, sipping champagne. It was kind of like, "Oh, Mariah is getting down with the brothers," and it was, like, very sexy and crazy. So I would just always do funny shit about that. And of course her whole Butterfly period–which, you know, anytime butterflies get introduced into a conversation, you can't help but go, "A butterfly?" [Laughs] Whenever Mariah does something that I find really fun and crazy, like The Emancipation of Mimi–that's just brilliant! It's perfect fodder for me. Never am I trashing Mariah Carey, because she's too talented, she's a genius and she's an original. It's really coming from a place of sheer funny irony, and tipping my hat to the crazy of it all.

Out of curiosity, have you seen her recent stint on HSN that went viral?
No, I haven't, but I'll have to watch it and maybe I'll weigh in on it onstage at the REDCAT. It'll be my latest installment on Mimi.

Is Mariah Carey Joining X Factor?
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 05-Aug-2011, 3:53PM EDT
What you might not know about The X Factor is that unlike American Idol, this upcoming Fox series shows "everything" behind the scenes. At least that's the word from überproducer/resident cranky pants Simon Cowell, who tackled Q's from reporters today at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, along with Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and the rest of the show's cast and crew.

We got our first glimpse of some of that candor as Simon addressed rumors Mariah Carey might be a part of X Factor, what really happened with ousted judge Cheryl Cole and more. So is Mariah coming on?

Sure sounds like it. According to Simon, he wanted Mariah to be a judge, but now she'll appear in a different way. "There's certain sections on the show where we do have well known people helping us on the show," Simon explains. "I talked to her the other day, and she's been enthusiastic since day one. But then she selfishly got pregnant which is why she didn't end up as a judge."

The X Factor begins Sept. 21 with auditions.

MDJ Spotlight: Morgan Carey & his Victorious Green
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 04-Aug-2011, 4:25PM EDT
Lea Green of PGiGreen had the opportunity to interview Mariah's brother Morgan Carey recently about his new business venture Victorious Green. The article gives a little insight into what Morgan has been up to as of late. Some Mariah fans may find it interesting; and may also have a genuine interest in using his company's services.

Morgan Carey, founder of Victorious Green describes his holistic, healing perspectives on sustainable building, organic gardening, and permaculture principles. Victorious Green gardens provide their clients a wealth of delicious, organic heirloom vegetables—without their having to leave the comfort and beauty of their own personal living space. Offering higher volume yields than traditional garden plots, Morgan's designs are based on optimal sustainable building and organic agriculture principles.

During PGiGreen's interview, Morgan was candid about his childhood, speaking openly and plainly. Although he was born with cerebral palsy, grand mal and petit mal seizures, and scoliosis, he sees his childhood challenges as simply "inspiring." The ensuing descriptions of his challenges and victories as a child were nothing short of mind-boggling.

Mariah, Morgan, Patricia

"Mariah's Garden"

Morgan recalls that from a very early age, his mother had touted the benefits of good nutrition and mega-supplementation—focusing especially on antioxidants such as vitamin C, which studies indicated was beneficial for epileptics. The aggressive regimen of anti-convulsive drugs prescribed to control his seizures produced so many side effects that, by the age of fourteen, Morgan chose to stop taking his medications, despite the doomsday predictions of his doctors.

Morgan's conversion to vegetarianism occurred at the tender age of eight when his father returned home from a hunting trip with a deer strapped to the family station wagon. The horrific image triggered a moral outrage in Morgan at such a core level that he swore off meat forever. Decades later, prompted by reading The China Study, a comprehensive scientific report that correlates the consumption of animal protein with higher cancer rates, Morgan embraced a strict vegan lifestyle the merits of which he espouses to anyone who'll listen.

Morgan's mother also encouraged him as a child, fortifying him with the wisdom that "there was no such word as 'can't.'" He recalls her wise counsel: "She said I could achieve anything if I worked hard enough. I was 'special' and had 'no limitations.'" Morgan's mother not only honed his self-confidence through inspiration and guidance, but through action and discipline. Childhood violin lessons and judo training imbued him with an overall belief that he could bend reality to his will (a concept that served his superstar younger sister, Mariah, brilliantly).

To speak with Morgan, one would never imagine he had such a challenging childhood. Morgan is a picture of health whose photos and articles have graced the pages of Men's Fitness and other health-related publications in which he describes how his Spartan "no pain, no gain," "food for fuel," "take no prisoners" lifestyle helped him overcome his early challenges.

Morgan's aesthetic sensibilities, his concern for the environment, and the need to protect his food supply eventually culminated in the Victorious Green design. "I wasn't trying to start a business," he insists, "It just sort of started itself. People just started seeing my garden at home and all of a sudden there was this demand."
