After securing plenty of celebrity co-hosts on The Friday Night Project and now The Sunday Project, Alan's managed to forge a few celebrity friendships too. "Jamie Oliver, Chris Moyles, Jessie Wallace. Obviously none of the A A listers," he joked.
"Mariah Carey said she wanted me and Justin to be in her next video and we were like Oh My GOD! And then I saw the next video on MTV and I hadn't even had a phone call!"
Note: Mariah joined comic presenters Justin Lee Collins and Alan Carr as the celebrity guest host on UK's The Friday Night Project which aired April 4, 2008. For those who missed the show, video files are still available for download here.

Mariah Mentions In a brief video posted on YouTube, Damizza responds to the recent press coverage of his upcoming book.
"Guilty By Association is not a tell-all on anything. I know HipHop DX website put out there that it was a tell-all on Dr. Dre and now because Mariah made a mistake and sent out a letter a little ahead of time without knowing what the book was about said there was gonna be a tell-all and it's not. I'm not that type of person. I'm not a snitch."
Chatting with MTV, Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray recounts the experience of his band's album opening behind Mariah's in 2005.
"I remember that day, when we found out we'd gotten #2. It was like, 'Oh, man--#2,' and we were all pretty bummed. But I told the guys, 'You know what today is? Today's the day that 50 Cent and Mariah Carey learned who Mudvayne is.' 50 Cent was the #3 album that week, and I guarantee you he went, 'Who in the hell is Mudvayne?' Maybe even Mariah Carey went, 'Who's Mudvayne?'"
From Tribeca Film - Blog: When Mariah Carey appeared at the Festival this year, she made more headlines for her quickie marriage to Nick Cannon than her well-received turn in this road-trip odyssey about two troubled brothers driving to Tennessee, with Carey as the Texan waitress with a dream that joins them. The diva glamour is tamped down for the role, but there's still singing in the film--in particular, an original song written by Carey and Willie Nelson, "Right to Dream."

Today was open mic day on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Oprah, joined by her panel of friends Ali Wentworth, Mark Consuelos and Gayle King, tackled all the hot topics. Ms. Winfrey also took today's live show as an opportunity to debunk the erroneous rumors circulating on the Web that claim Mariah is pregnant.
"For those of you who are wondering if the rumors about Mariah Carey being pregnant, if you just were holding onto your chairs, they're not true. We called Mariah, she gave us the word--it's not true."
Special Message from Mariah
Posted by Casey on Friday, 26-Sep-2008, 6:32PM EDT
I am so grateful for my life and for everything that I have.
Over the years I have been passionate about helping those who are less fortunate, especially children in need.
It is shocking that 850 million people face hunger every day. But it pains me even more to know that every six seconds, somewhere in the world, a child dies of hunger. This is unacceptable. Let us commit ourselves today to make a difference and help end hunger around the world.
Join me in support of the World Hunger Relief campaign to benefit the United Nations World Food Programme. Together we will help feed millions of children.
Give children the chance they deserve and give to the World Food Programme. Just $1 will feed 4 children.

These are the 15 artists who have sold the most albums since May 25, 1991. The tallies don't count any albums sold before that date. Nielsen/SoundScan also maintains a running list of the top 200 albums in its history. Also included are the total number of albums each of these artists has on that list, as well as the title of the artist's highest-ranking album.
1. Garth Brooks, 68,051,000 2. The Beatles, 56,683,000
3. Mariah Carey, 51,370,000. Carey is the top-ranking female artist on the list. The pop/R&B star is also the only artist in the top 15 with an R&B base. Carey has five albums in the top 200, topped by 1995's Daydream at #47. Carey first charted in June 1990 with her eponymous debut album. In addition to her album achievements, Carey has two songs-"Touch My Body" and "We Belong Together"-on Nielsen/SoundScan's running list of the top 200 songs with the most paid downloads.

Mariah at CLSA Concert in Hong Kong
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 25-Sep-2008, 5:07PM EDT
Earlier tonight in Hong Kong, Mariah was on stage live performing her hit songs in a concert called "Like Honey" for the 15th CLSA Investors' Forum 2008 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Below, find her setlist and information about the show.
Setlist: 1. Touch My Body 2. Shake It Off 3. Dreamlover 4. I'll Be There (with Trey Lorenz) 5. My All/My All Remix --costume change-- 6. Make It Happen 7. Always Be My Baby 8. I'm That Chick 9. We Belong Together 10. Hero Encore 11. Without You 12. We Belong Together Remix (outro)
Tidbits: It was an hour show. Started at 10:20pm, ended at 11:20pm. One costume change. She wore a trench coat on top of another dress and took it off later. Mariah tried to say "I Love You" in Cantonese. Bernard and group said the phrase aloud but she couldn't hear so she had to give up. Before Mariah sang "Always Be My Baby," she acknowledged the fans who were holding their "Always Be My Baby" vinyls up. Mariah's voice was in really good condition. All songs were performed live. The crowd was great, everyone had fun. After the concert, Mariah and entourage proceeded to Aqua at 1 Peking Road in Tsim Sha Tsui for an after-party. Mariah left the place at around 2:30am.

E=MC² Billboard 200 Albums: #141 (Last Week #122) Billboard Comprehensive Albums: #160 (Last Week #138) Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums: #39 (Last Week #30) Sales this week: 4,341 (-10%) Total sales: 1,171,931

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs: #100 (Last Week #91) Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay: #100 (Last Week #91)
The Adventures of Mimi Billboard Top Music Videos: #28
From Yahoo! Music's Chart Watch: Taylor Swift's Taylor Swift dips a notch to #25 in its 100th week on the chart. Even better, the album this week becomes the best-seller by a female artist so far in 2008. It swipes the title from Mariah Carey's E=MC2. Swift's album has sold 1,178,000 copies so far this year, about 6,000 copies more than Carey's album. The most striking part of all this is that Swift's album has been out since October 2006. It was among Nielsen/SoundScan's top 10 best sellers of 2007 and it may well be among the top 10 sellers of 2008 as well. Swift's second studio album, Fearless, is due November 11.

Will Mariah lift mood of Investors in Chinese Stocks?
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 24-Sep-2008, 3:36PM EDT
At the CLSA Investor Forum in Hong Kong there haven't been a lot of backslapping and hi-fives, which isn't surprising considering the headlines these days. But as one CLSA staffer said to me, the mood was pretty upbeat, considering the circumstances, probably because the attendees are still happy to have jobs. Or maybe misery loves company. Who knows, maybe they showed up to catch a private performance by Mariah Carey at the conference bash on September 25.
But after sitting through four straight media briefings on China today, I think it would take more than hearing Carey croon her new hit "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" to lift the spirits of investors in Chinese stocks. Fraser Howie, a CLSA managing director who introduced himself as "a notorious bear of China" said "even I've been impressed with how quickly the market has fallen and how confidence has evaporated." For those of you not tethered to Bloomberg machines, the Shanghai Stock Index is down about 58% this year.

Videos From tonight's Cable TV. The report says Mariah's flight was delayed due to the typhoon. She came out with husband Nick Cannon, hand in hand, and mentioned the 'die-hard' fans were waiting for her. They praised Mariah for being down-to-earth and for taking the time to get close to her fans. They also mentioned that a fan (Bernard) was the luckiest guy because he was the only one who got the chance to talk to Mariah and that this made the other fans envious.

According to the article, Mariah was very touched that even with the strong typhoon, over 10 media and over 30 fans came to greet her. She kept waving, smiled and signed for the fans.
It says fans were worried that they couldn't make it on time because of traffic jam. Fortunately, Mariah and Nick came out at 8:45pm. Even after a long flight, she was still all smiles and said hello to the people waiting for her. It says an avid fan for 18 years has given Mariah a fanbook, that fans admire Mariah's voice and talent, and that many people didn't know Mariah wrote her own songs.
It also mentions that Mariah will stay at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Mariah will leave for Macau on Friday, September 26th for a private event at the Venetian. She will stay there until the 29th, come back to Hong Kong, and then off to the U.S.
The article is more or less the same but it says there were around 50 fans at the airport. The flight was delayed for about an hour because of the typhoon. She came out late but when she walked out with Nick, the fans got very excited and wanted to get autographs and pictures. After a long flight, Mariah and Nick didn't seem tired and were pleased to give autographs. After the show in Hong Kong, they will go to Macau in a private jet for a private show. They will leave Hong Kong next Monday.
The Sun It says the flight has been delayed for 40 minutes but she spent over 1 hour to do touch up with her makeup and came out at around 9pm with 3 bodyguards. It also mentions Mariah wearing sunglasses, signed items for her adoring fans. Some fans asked Nick for autographs too. It says there were so many fans that Mariah could barely move.
Apple Daily The newspaper reports that because of the crowd, Mariah couldn't take the lift to the carpark and had to walk down the stairs. She got on her car and went straight to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central Hong Kong.
The article mentions the flight number and time of arrival and that it was delayed due to the weather. Her plane landed at 7:39pm. She arrived with husband Nick Cannon and 2 bodyguards, 2 PR and 6 security. 30 fans were waiting for her and she appeared to be very down to earth and posed for pictures with Nick. Then she took the initiative to walk towards the fans to sign autographs.
Fan Photos/Recap: Mariah Arrives in Hong Kong!
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 23-Sep-2008, 12:40PM EDT
Below are photos of Mariah and husband Nick Cannon arriving at the Hong Kong International Airport earlier today. Many thanks to Bernard, Elaine, Muki, Daniel and Justin for the pictures!
Meeting Mariah, Come Rain or High Water Typhoon Hagupit was hoisted to signal #8 and everyone was heading back home from work. It was very windy and raining quite heavily. I was very busy contacting fans to make sure they arrive on time. Then there was this traffic jam that worried us because we knew we might be late.
Fortunately, some fans went to the airport by themselves (thanks to MariahDailyJournal for posting the details!) and they kept calling me to let me know that Mariah's flight was delayed until 7:30pm. Finally, we arrived and newspaper journalists and photographers were there already and when they saw us, they took pictures of us holding signs, gifts, CDs, and everything.
They interviewed some of us, including me, although I didn't want them to take pictures of me. I just showed them my fanbook. The fanbook was supposed to be given to Mariah two years ago at her Mimi concert but unfortunately the show got cancelled.
At around 8:45pm, Mariah walked out with Nick and we all got very, very excited and called out her name. She stopped and posed for a few pictures and quickly walked towards the fans to sign for us and shook hands too!
At this time, people from Universal Hong Kong asked me to walk in Mariah's area because they thought I did great help. Mariah's people said they know me too and wanted to give me an opportunity to talk to Mariah and take a picture.
Mariah was still signing and I was right behind her. Nick was there and saw me so we said hi to each other. I shook hands with him and talked to him. I congratulated him on their marriage. He said it's his first time in Hong Kong, and that they're staying here for about one week.
Mariah turned to me and I said hi and everything. We took a picture of us together. All the newspaper photographers had their cameras on us too. Of course I made sure that I told her how much I love her since the beginning of her career. And then I gave her the fanbook I made with contributions from Hong Kong fans, as well as fans from Mainland China and Taiwan.
The bodyguard said they needed to leave and so I told her I love her and said goodbye. She's on the way to her car and all of us followed. At that point, no more autographs were allowed. She got in the car and had the fanbook I've just given to her on her lap! She said goodbye and left. It was such a cool experience!
We went back to our bus and left the airport. Some fans were already at the hotel and told me that they saw her for a few seconds when she entered the lobby at around 9:40pm but security was tight so they couldn't even take pictures.
Mariah was really cool and really down to earth and she's really good to her fans. I'll never forget this wonderful evening!

Mariah Carey makes new 'Push' into acting
Posted by Lynn on Monday, 22-Sep-2008, 9:36AM EDT
Mariah Carey is determined to shut up all you people who laughed at her in "Glitter."
The Grammy winner put away her lip gloss to play the battered wife of a state trooper in "Tennessee," which won raves at the Tribeca Film Festival. Director Lee Daniels was so impressed with her grit that he's cast her in "Push," in which she plays a Harlem social worker ministering to an obese, HIV-positive woman impregnated twice by her father.
But Mariah isn't getting mired in misery. As she gets ready to tour again, she's also developing a movie musical based on her colossal-selling Christmas album.
It's about a town outside a city - perhaps not unlike Mariah's hometown of Huntington, L.I. - where a ruthless developer wants to turn it into one big mall.
"Mariah doesn't want to let that happen," says her producing partner Benny Medina. "Her character uses song and love to keep the Christmas spirit alive."
Mariah says the script, which "High School Musical" writer Peter Barsocchini is working on, is still in the early stages. But she tells us, "Since I recorded the Christmas album, I've always wanted to make a movie to go with it, something that people could watch and hear and enjoy every year. I'm into it. I'm all about the holiday season."
Last night Mariah Carey got me drunk. I'd turned up at a studio by Manhattan's Hudson river for my 11:30pm interview with one of the globe's biggest superstars and three hours later... I was still waiting.
Whilst enjoying New York's breath-taking skyline from the 14th floor of the studio, I mentally quiz the woman who came back from an emotional breakdown seven years ago with the sensational ultra platinum The Emancipation of Mimi, an album that cemented her iconic place in pop history. Exciting stuff, and despite the jet lag creeping in, 24 hours after landing at JFK, I couldn't wait to get a peek inside the wonderful world of MC.
At 3am I get the ok to go through for the interview. Three French journalists are waiting behind me: one dozing on the couch, another downing espressos to ward off exhaustion, the third's discontent is apparent as Mariah's publicist has assigned me his slot to conduct the interview before sleep gets the better of me.
I'm asked to sit behind a large black screen on a director's stool where Mariah is seated on the other side. I feel like I'm about to audition for American Idol. I'm handed a glass of wine which I down quickly in the hope that the alcohol will awaken my dreary senses a little. I'm called in and there she is, a slimmed-down 5ft 9 vision of loveliness, even at such a ridiculous hour. Don't believe the hype or the paparazzi's unflattering tabloid pics, Mariah Carey is gorgeous in the flesh, although after my interview I'm not entirely convinced she knows it. Standing to give me a hug I'm bounced by her ample bosom, but aside from this surgical enhancement, there's absolutely no evidence of the alleged £150,000 liposuction which is supposed to have resulted in Mariah's fabulous new body. Aretha Franklin Covers "Touch My Body"
Posted by Lynn on Sunday, 21-Sep-2008, 6:18AM EDT
Last night in her concert at Hoosier Park in Anderson, Indiana, Aretha Franklin performed Mariah's "Touch My Body." Here is an excerpt taken from The Star Press' review:
What she delivered were stops all over her career timeline. There was blues. There was jazz. There was soul. There was even Mariah Carey. Franklin had fun with Carey's "Touch My Body."
"You throw me on the floor and there's gonna be some trouble," Franklin, dressed in a long maroon and gold kaftan, joked after stopping the song mid-verse.

From Life & Style, September 29th issue:
Mariah's $18,000 Splurge Is the honeymoon ever going to end for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon? The newlyweds spent three nights -- at $6,000 a pop -- at NYC's Plaza Hotel during Fashion Week.
"Mariah has a gorgeous apartment in Tribeca, but that didn't stop her," says a pal of the singer. "She treats herself to whatever she wants, including room service several times a day and champagne, chocolate and strawberries."
And Nick's not complaining. "He loves every minute of it," adds the pal. "He's living it up as much as she is!"

Mariah to Grace Hong Kong's CLSA Gala?
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 19-Sep-2008, 9:48AM EDT
Here's another article about Mariah's supposed appearance at the 15th CLSA Investors' Forum 2008 in Hong Kong which we reported earlier. This, however, has her scheduled on Wednesday, September 24th.
CitySeen: Financiers' fingers crossed that Mariah will turn up to hit high notes at CLSA gala As first reported by our business industry insider colleague Ben Kwok in his Lai See column, the headline entertainment for the coming CLSA investors' conference will be the pneumatic diva Mariah Carey. The self-nicknamed multi-octave singer Mimi - who also officially became a cougar when she got hitched to rapper Nick Cannon, 10 years her junior, last year - will be appearing at the financial forum's private gala at the Convention and Exhibition Centre. However, Ben got a little ahead of himself when he suggested the conference was this week. Actually, it starts on Monday and Carey's big show is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24. CLSA delegates should keep their fingers crossed, though, as the two most recent efforts to bring Carey to town resulted in last-minute cancellations. Mind you, the chance to see a pop hit-maker is probably the least of a bunch of financiers and investors' concerns, considering the market is plunging to depths lower than the front of Carey's dresses. As for those folks who want to see Mimi but don't have the invitation-only passes, it's time to cosy up to your friends in finance and ask if they need a date.

CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets previously had INXS in 2006, and Duran Duran in 2007, performing at its annual international conference. This year, it will reportedly be Mariah.

Mariah Interview in UK's Now
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 18-Sep-2008, 9:06AM EDT
From the September 22nd issue of the UK magazine, Now.
MARIAH CAREY She's one of the biggest selling recording artists of her generation. She has stacks of cash, the adoration of her fans and an army of assistants to cater to her every demand. Yep, it's fair to say that Mariah Carey, 38, is well and truly living the high life.
Since we last caught up with her, Mariah's had even more success, with two massive hit singles from her latest album E=MC², not to mention the small matter of getting married to rapper and actor, Nick Cannon, 27, who she'd been dating for just a month. But how will she cope with answering Now readers' questions? Well, as it turns out, she's not in the chattiest of moods...
IS YOU VOICE INSURED? - Peta Masters, London Wouldn't you insure it if you were me?
YOU'VE JUST BROUGHT OUT YOUR OWN PERFUME. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO DO THAT? - Karen Thompkins, Hounslow I've always really loved the idea of a fragrance, but I'd never found one that felt like it was meant for me. When I was offered the opportunity to create my own, I jumped at the chance. M by Mariah Carey is for everyone, especially my fans.
WHICH MEN'S FRAGRANCE TURNS YOU ON? - Mike Stott, London Usually less is more when it comes to men's cologne. I don't like strong, overpowering scents but, that said, fragrance smells different on each person, so you can't rule anything out.
YOU SEEM TO LOVE BUTTERFLIES - YOUR PERFUME BOTTLE IS EVEN SHAPED LIKE ONE. WHAT'S THE DEAL? - Susanne Elders, London Butterflies are incredibly inspirational to me. I really love the fact that they represent metamorphosis and freedom.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO DESIGN YOUR OWN CLOTHES RANGE? - Fran Pinder, Hull I plan on doing anything that inspires me creatively. Otherwise it's not worth doing it.
WHAT'S THE MOST AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU'VE EVER SPENT ON ONE THING? - Bonnie McKelvey, Manchester I've never been a fan of talking about money. I think it's a bit tacky to do that.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? - Rochelle Davies, Wimbledon I cried just last night.
WHAT' YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD? - Carol Browne, Manchester Pizza, but I'm not allowed to eat it!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE? - Cathy Slattery, Cornwall My bathroom. It's kind of my own personal spa. It's very glamorous and 'old Hollywood'.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOME COMFORTS? - Vikka Calder, Chester My fluffy comforter [duvet], my pillow and my bath tub.
WHAT'S IN YOUR MAKE-UP BAG? - Renee Colt, Leeds My lip gloss and my perfume.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHICH BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU USE? - Pasty White, Middlesborough I went to beauty school, so I know lots about make-up. Also, I get to work with the best make-up artists, so I learn from them.
WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU PACK WHEN YOU TRAVEL? - Olivia Betts, Reading Sun cream with a high SPF is a must, plus sunglasses and a huge sun hat. And I always pack a lip gloss and bronzing powder.
WHAT ARE YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE BOOK AND FILM? - Luci Anderson, Whitby The only book I make time to read is the Bible. I love too many movies to pick one.
WHO'S YOUR STYLE ICON? - Tina Koch, Edinburgh Marilyn Monroe

PRIZE QUESTION? WHEN YOU GET TIME OFF, HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND IT? - Claire Chapple, Chester I don't get much time off, but I make sure there are period on my schedule when no work's allowed. The best way is to go on vacation. I love tropical places and swimming in the sea. The more secluded a place is, the better.

Jasmine's Juice: "I've had chats with my mate Mariah on numerous occasions in the past about things that stress folks out. One thing that she insists helps alleviate her stress is having no women's magazines around her. I used to turn up at her boat, penthouse apartment or jet plane laden down with mags, insisting I needed something to read, whilst she would shake her head knowingly at me. 'That stuff will brainwash you,' she used to tell me. But do you know what? I finally get it. Everything she has tried to school me about for years has finally sunk in!"
Mariah was the subject of last Tuesday's final Jeopardy category "Pop Artists." From Variety: Vivendi off to 'Tennessee' Film unit grabs rights to Aaron Woodley film
Vivendi Entertainment has grabbed all U.S. rights to "Tennessee," the latest pic from "Monster's Ball" producer Lee Daniels. Directed by Aaron Woodley ("Rhinoceros Eyes") and written by Russell Schaumburg, the film was produced by Daniels in association with Smokewood Entertainment.
Adam Rothenberg, Ethan Peck and Mariah Carey star in the tale of two brothers on a journey to their hometown in search of their estranged father. Carey plays an aspiring singer who flees her abusive husband to join them.
In the film, Carey performs original ballad "Right to Dream," which she co-wrote with Willie Nelson.
Vivendi has set a December release.
From Hollywood Reporter: Vivendi gets rights to 'Tennessee' Mariah Carey drama in theaters this December
"Glitter" star Mariah Carey will soon be returning to a movie theater near you.
Vivendi Entertainment has acquired all domestic rights to the singing actress' film "Tennessee," which premiered at this spring's Tribeca Film Festival.
The Lee Daniels Entertainment production is a quiet and at times moody drama centering on two lower-middle class brothers (Adam Rothenberg and Ethan Peck) who take to the road to resolve their economic and health challenges. Along the way they meet and bring along a waitress (Carey) whose dreams of a singing career have been dashed by a bad marriage.
Though not a musical, director Daniels' film features Carey performing the original ballad "Right to Dream," which she co-wrote with Willie Nelson.
"Tennessee" will hit theaters this December.
Vivendi's Yolanda Macias negotiated the deal with Jonathan Gray of Gary Krauss LLP and the film's sales reps, CAA and Submarine Entertainment.

"We Belong Together" is 9th Most Popular Song of Hot 100 Era
Posted by Lynn on Thursday, 11-Sep-2008, 1:25AM EDT
How's this for a twist: Of all the No. 1 songs in the 50 years of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Chubby Checker's "The Twist" ranks as the most popular single.
Santana's "Smooth," featuring Rob Thomas, is the No. 2 most popular, followed by Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife," Leann Rimes' "How Do I Live" and "The Macarena" by Los Del Rio.
The Beatles did make the top 10, coming it at No. 8 with "Hey Jude." But Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" and Debby Boone's "You Light Up My Life" are ahead of that hit. Rounding out the top 10: Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" at No. 9 and Toni Braxton's "Un-break My Heart" at No. 10.
Geoff Mayfield, director of charts at Billboard magazine, acknowledged that the list might not jibe with some fans' personal thoughts of the most popular songs of the past 50 years.
"This is simply a chronicle of how each of these songs performed in their era on the Hot 100. We're not saying these are the most memorable songs of your life. That would be something that's almost impossible to determine," said Mayfield. "Everyone has a subjective frame of reference."
The Billboard Hot 100 chart measures airplay and sales information (and more recently digital downloads) in determining the nation's most popular songs. To determine the most popular song of the Hot 100 era, Billboard used a formula to determine the top song - not always relying on weeks at No. 1 since the data was reported differently in its early days.
Initially, Billboard relied on stations to report the most popular songs, and got sales surveys from record stores. But Mayfield said stations often stopped reporting on a song's popularity if it was no longer a priority for record labels. And in 1991, Billboard began relying on sales data from Nielsen SoundScan and airplay data from Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. So Billboard weighted certain songs from different eras to make sure all songs were on an even playing field.

Mariah Carey Hires Herself
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 10-Sep-2008, 12:36AM EDT
Mariah Carey is her own replacement.
E! News has exclusively confirmed that the Grammy winner has found a different role for longtime talent manager Benny Medina and will now be representing herself.
Carey and Medina, who have worked together for more than five years, both say that they will continue to collaborate: Medina's Handprint Entertainment will continue to develop content for, and with, the singer, but Carey's own Maroon Entertainment will be managing her career.
Initial reports from outlets such as the New York Post's Page Six and the New York Daily News said Tuesday that Carey, 38, had dumped Medina, possibly Medina had been "courting" his former client (and reported Carey rival) Jennifer Lopez.
But Carey and Medina turned to E! to clear up the speculation and explain the terms of their new relationship.
"Press Reports have not been accurate," Carey said in a statement. "Benny Medina and I will continue to work together on projects both present and in the future. I'm looking forward to working with Benny on what we have been developing, and to his continued involvement in my creative life."
A source close to the situation tells E! that the revised deal is really driven by what Mariah feels is the best way to streamline her own company, Maroon Entertainment.
Medina, who recently parted ways with Usher, issued the following statement to us:
"Being as involved as I have been over the last five years, I am reminded how great teamwork leads to great success. This affords me the opportunity to work on some great projects with Mariah, including the upcoming tour, an HBO Christmas movie and a variety music show for CBS, as well as to pursue some of my other [productional] interests."
Mariah Sends Cease & Desist To Damizza
Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 10-Sep-2008, 12:34AM EDT
Damizza has been served a Cease & Desist notice from Mariah's lawyers in connection with the pending release of his tell-all autobiography, "Guilty By Association." According to a press release sent by his co-writer Eddie Gurrola dated August 7, 2008, the book, reportedly scheduled for release at the end of this year, will be revealing the following about Mariah:
"In "Guilty By Association" readers will be treated to the behind-the-scenes stories of some of Mariah Carey's biggest hits -- and her incredible comeback after the disastrous "Glitter" fiasco, orchestrated through her triumphant post-9/11 Super Bowl performance. And for the first time anywhere, Damizza finally goes public with the ups and downs of the intense four-year personal relationship they shared and worked diligently to disguise from the world's press."
In a blog entry on his MySpace dated September 9, 2008, Damizza wrote:
"I think her lawyers think I'm gona say sumthing bad... 1 problem.. She wasn't mentioned on my blog.. Hmmmm"
You can view the scans of the Cease & Desist letter as posted on Damizza's MySpace below.
Rumor Mill: Benny Medina Fired?
Posted by Lynn on Tuesday, 09-Sep-2008, 8:46AM EDT
Mariah Carey is moving on from her manager, Benny Medina. Sources told Page Six that Carey had been unhappy with Medina - especially since she heard rumors that he was courting his former client, and her nemesis, Jennifer Lopez, again - and booted him on Friday. But Medina said, "I just had lunch with Mariah today. We're restructuring her company and streamlining it. That's all." If he ends up streamlining himself out of a job, Carey would be his third major loss this year - Tyra Banks and Usher both recently left him.
Fight Breaks Out At The Fashion Rocks Party

Justin Timberlake narrowly missed being punched in the face after a fan sneaked into a VIP area to take his photo. The singer, who was celebrating his duet with Beyonce Knowles at the New York Fashion Rocks party earlier on Saturday evening, was forced to dive for cover when a brawl got out of hand at the city's Rainbow Bar. His minder had snatched the admirer's camera phone and tried to delete the picture before the woman's friends stepped in to defend her.
Beyonce, her sister Solange and Mariah Carey screamed in terror as champagne glasses were smashed, while Rihanna and Chris Brown tried to avoid the flying glass. Justin's bodyguard was later thrown out of the club.

From the September 15th issue of In Touch magazine:
Nick wants to work with Mariah Carey again Nick Cannon is ready to mix business with pleasure -- but only if his wife, Mariah Carey, agrees. "Of course I would work with her!" Nick tells In Touch, but adds, "I am going to leave it up to her." In the meantime, he's keeping busy with his solo projects. "I've been working on some other stuff, so I don't think we'll do a record soon," says Nick, 27. Of course, their past job together turned out nicely for the couple -- they fell in love shortly after he starred in Mariah's music video for "Bye Bye." Something else they could do together? Nick says that he wouldn't mind having kids soon. "That would be a beautiful thing," he says.

How Does "Just Stand Up" Count?
Posted by Lynn on Saturday, 06-Sep-2008, 2:37PM EDT
Hi Fred, On the cover of the charity single "Just Stand Up!" literally all contributing singers are mentioned. Does this mean Billboard will also credit the single to every one of them?
So would the single, if it hits No. 1 in the United States, count toward Mariah Carey's total of No. 1s, thus making it her record-breaking 19th No. 1 hit? Holger R. Heinrich - Berlin, Germany
Dear Fred: "Just Stand Up!" is available to downland on iTunes and apparently is doing very well even before the concert takes place on Sept. 5. Since this a huge collaboration (the song includes 15 lead artists), what is going to happen if the song moves into the penthouse?
Would this mean a No. 1 hit for all of the artists? If so, would this be Mariah Carey's 19th No. 1? Fued N. Martin - Merida, Yucatan, Mexico
The charity single "Just Stand Up!" enters The Billboard Hot 100 this week at No. 78, and as Fued points out, this is based on sales prior to the broadcast of the television benefit, "Stand Up for Cancer." The song is likely to take a huge jump after the multi-network broadcast, although whether it's going to take a record-setting 78-1 leap remains to be seen.
The official artist credit for this charity song is Artists Stand Up to Cancer. Since the individual artists are not listed by their own names (even if those names appear on the cover of the single), they would not receive credit for this hit as individual artists. That's the same way we treated the charity single "We Are the World," credited to USA for Africa.
It's a fair question to ask, but since this song was recorded with a higher purpose in mind, I don't think any of the artists involved are thinking about how this will affect their career totals on the Hot 100.
Meanwhile, the new Billboard Poll asks:
Billboard is celebrating the Hot 100's 50th anniversary. What do you think is the most impressive achievement in the chart's history?
The Beatles' record 20 No. 1s. Mariah Carey's hits spending a total of 79 weeks at No. 1, 20 weeks longer than any other artist. Ricky Nelson earning the first No. 1 with 1958's "Poor Little Girl." Elvis Presley scoring the most Hot 100 appearances with his 108 charting hits.

Top Note: Mariah Carey
Posted by Lynn on Friday, 05-Sep-2008, 4:09AM EDT
Mariah Carey is a woman of extremes. There have been highs - most consistently, her five-octave voice, which pierces the whistle register - and lows, such as her much chronicled meltdown, which included a bizarre striptease on TRL in 2001. But, now, after 18 years on the charts, Carey, 38, is way up at the top of her game, where she reigns as the bestselling female recording artist of all time.
"I always knew what I wanted to do with my life," Carey recently told WWD. "My mother was an opera singer, and I'd been singing since I started talking and writing songs since I was 13."
And she's only gotten better with time. Add this to Carey's list of superlatives: She's written more number-one songs - "Touch My Body" off her latest album, "E=MC2," brought her total to 18 - than any other female producer and composer. Only the Beatles have had more number-one hits.
Of course, Carey has been known to show off assets aside from her voice - including her two fragrances with Elizabeth Arden. Her proclivity for less-is-more fashion - hemlines as high as her notes - borders on exhibitionism and just might trigger another creative outlet in design. "I love lingerie," said Carey. "I've been looking at doing something with that - but that's a whole different story."
Carey's first fragrance, M by Mariah Carey, was launched in September 2007 and climbed to the top of the sales charts. Her latest, Luscious Pink, is intended to show fans a more intimate look into her world and has just hit store shelves. "This scent is feminine, flirtatious and fun, and truly reflects where I am in my life now, after an incredible year," Carey told WWD in June (just weeks after marrying rapper-actor Nick Cannon).

From Digital Spy: Mariah Carey "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" Released on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 By Nick Levine, Music Editor
The third single from her E=MC² album sticks rigidly to the formula that made Mariah a superstar again after the Glitter fiasco: midtempo R&B beats, cooing choruses and a vocal performance that's surprisingly restrained from a woman with eight octaves at her disposal and noone to tell her what to do.
Yet, in spite of its predictability, 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time' still makes for a satisfying listen, sounding classy, effortless and as summery as a glass of rosé in the garden after a work. Plus, as with most things Mariah does these days, there's an intriguing hint of strangeness lurking just beneath the surface - who else would name a song about eternal devotion after a line from Full Metal Jacket?
From Manchester Evening News: Mariah Carey - I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time (Mercury) By Glenn Meads September 1, 2008
Touch My Body may not have been the best single to launch the brilliant E=MC², but this soulful sure-fire hit more than makes up for it.
With an old skool backing and wonderfully rich vocals (but not overdone) this is Mariah at her very best.
Summer may have faded quicker than your non-existent tan, but Ms Carey will ensure that she brings sunshine direct to your iPod with this superb single. Released on September 1.
"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" is now available for download at iTunes UK for £0.79. It is currently at #77 on Top 100 Pop Songs.
