Singing Hero for heroes.
Hopefully you saw Mariah singing Hero at the big charity event on friday. She gave an amazing performance of her maybe most known, and most inspirational song. This is what she said about the event (from MTV):

"I would just say that my heart goes out to anybody that's been affected, all the victims and everybody in this country, because we're trying to come together as a nation and really be strong and it's hard, it's not an easy task. I hope it will create even more unity. The most important thing is to stay positive ... We can all do our part."

Estimation is that 89 million viewers in USA watched some part of the tribute show. It was carried on at least 31 U.S. broadcast and cable networks and beamed to 156 countries around the globe!

Great article from MTV!

Mariah Carey at "Glitter" screening Thursday night
LOS ANGELES — A smiling but teary-eyed Mariah Carey made her first public appearance since suffering an emotional breakdown in July to watch a screening of her Hollywood debut, "Glitter," with her fans Thursday night.

For Carey, who arrived at Westwood's Village Theatre in jeans and a black tank top adorned with an American flag, it was a form of therapy — not for her personal troubles, but for the heartache she shares with her fans in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks.

"My fans have gotten me through all my personal little issues, and I want to give them back, even if it's just for tonight, a few minutes of peace," she said as she made her way into the venue. "Definitely every American is grieving in their own way, so I'm just happy to be here." In between interviews, Carey stopped to autograph copies of the film's soundtrack and pose for pictures with fans.

Looking beautiful and rested, the singer spoke about her problems in a "such-is-life" tone, saying she simply needed a break from a merciless schedule. "I was exhausted, I needed to rest," said Carey, who underwent psychiatric care for what her publicist termed a physical and emotional breakdown. "I tend to work myself to the ground like a superhero. And guess what? I'm human, so you can't do that. But it really required me acknowledging that. There was nobody to tell me to stop working."

"Glitter," which opens nationwide this weekend, stars Carey as a singer named Billie who achieves pop stardom but struggles with the abandonment of her past, a shaky love affair with her producer and the pitfalls of success (see "Mariah Does Milli Vanilli Thing, Cries, Finds Love In 'Glitter' Flick").

Inside the theatre, Carey sat in the center section flanked by security guards and handlers. Fellow movie-goers, who had won tickets through Los Angeles radio station Power 106, regularly erupted into cheers, from the moment Carey's name appeared in the opening credits to her character's final performance at New York's Madison Square Garden. At one point, when Billie's boyfriend asks her, "Do you think because you swing your ass onstage and hit a couple high notes that makes you some kind of colossal success?," audience members answered with a resounding, "Yes!"

Carey said she hopes the mostly light-hearted "Glitter" will provide movie-goers an emotional escape during this time of turmoil. "But obviously nothing can overshadow the events that have gone on, and I need to stay focused on that," she said.

The singer will return to the stage for the first time since her hospitalization for the star-powered benefit show "America: A Tribute to Heroes" on Friday (September 21), joining such stars as Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill (see "Mariah Carey To Resurface For 'America' TV Tribute").

"It's so difficult because everybody's been affected by this tragedy in a different way," Carey, who will sing "Hero" at the telethon, said. "I'm not a politician, but I would just say that my heart goes out to anybody that's been affected, all the victims and everybody in this country, because we're trying to come together as a nation and really be strong and it's hard, it's not an easy task."

Friday's commercial-free event, set to air simultaneously on several networks, will raise money for long-term relief efforts benefiting those directly affected by the attacks.

"I hope [it] will create even more unity," Carey said. "The most important thing is to stay positive ... We can all do our part."

Great Glitter reviews! This is a Glitter fan review, by Raquel, who was lucky enough to see the movie last thursday already!
Mariah did a beautiful job with this movie. It's finally out & it was aaaalll worth the wait. I can't wait to see it again....and again...and again! :) All I can say is...I don't even know what I can say to tell you how much I truly enjoyed watching this movie. Aawww, Mariah.... The theater was packed --it was the sneak preview in Detroit. The radio station was giving away some Glitter gear & I won a tank for naming 10 Mariah Carey songs. OMG, it's sooooooo cute!! I was so geeked! :p I wish the other lambs I went with could've gotten something too. They really didn't have that much stuff to give away though.

First of all, it was a good thing I never read any of the reviews or scripts, so I was just sitting there, like everyone else, not knowing what was going to happen. This was a good thing because...I was totally suprised. Not just at the storyline, but also at Mariah's acting. OMG, you guys, she is sooooo cute! It's like it's in her blood! I'm really glad & proud of her for showing this other side of her. She really did it!! When you see Billie smile in the movie...you're smiling too. When she's screamin cause she heard her song on the radio, you feel so happy & u're just like, "aaaahhh!!" And the love story. Like the whole movie was upbeat, fast...lots of excitement. But then there's this undertone of sadness, all throughout. I guess I didn't expect it to be this emotional...especially the ending. Not a good thing for them to turn on the lights immediately after the song ended, let me tell you!

Great movie...great storyline...awesome acting. I loved DaBrat's character!! Hilarious. Everyone was crackin up at all of her skits. Eric Benet was really cool too -kinda wish they could've done more with his character though. And I love the way the songs were incorporated. I feel like, if you enjoyed the movie, you will definitely want to get the soundtrack. Leaving the theater, you heard a lot of stuff --mostly people saying it had a nice story & she did good...better than they thought. Some jerks thinkin they were funny tried dissing the whole thing --they've really got nothing much to say though. GLITTERRRRRR!!!!!! I can't wait til everyone sees it!!!!!

Did you know?
Did you know that Halle Berry, who stands just beside Mariah in this Tribute to Heroes picture, is married to Eric Benet who plays against Mariah in Glitter and sings on the Glitter album! Mariah and Halle probably had lots to talk about!

Good Glitter reviews From Los Angeles Times:
'Glitter' Outshines Standard Diva Fare
The week's only major Hollywood release offers considerable escapist

By KEVIN THOMAS, Times Staff Writer

"Glitter," which marks a dynamic feature debut for pop star Mariah Carey, is far from pure gold, but it is not all dross either. It's a standard show-biz saga, a variation on the tried-and-true "A Star Is Born" theme that plays well under Vondie Curtis-Hall's direction until a couple of climactic moments draw unintended laughs.

It regains its momentum for a contrived, tie-up-all-loose-ends payoff that only a diva could carry off. But Carey is a diva, no mistake about it, and it's a safe bet that a goodly share of her legions of fans will love the heart-tugging finish. What's more, the film has a potent soundtrack, with a vital Terence Blanchard score and lots of new numbers written in part by its star, a strong element of its appeal.

"Glitter" could well be the right movie at the right moment. The film, written by Kate Lanier, who also wrote the screenplay for "What's Love Got to Do With It?," is not autobiographical, but its depiction of the vicissitudes of pop superstardom inevitably bring to mind its star's health problems, giving the film an added emotional charge. Fans, after all, are drawn to sagas of the triumph over adversity on the part of star performers both on life and on the screen.

There's another factor likely to work in the film's favor as well: In the wake of last week's terrorist attacks, "Glitter" is the week's only major Hollywood release, and it offers considerable escapist entertainment while hitting an affirmative note. In a striking opening sequence set in the early '70s, a stunning but unsteady jazz singer, Lillian Frank (Valarie Pettiford), is playing a small African American neighborhood club, probably in Harlem, when she calls up her little daughter (Isabel Gomes) to come onstage and help her through the number.

The little girl unleashes a formidable voice but cannot save her mother, clearly a hard drinker and apparently on drugs as well, from being fired. On the skids, Lillian is forced to give up her daughter, Billie, to an orphanage. She promises to return, but we know she won't. We move forward to 1983, with Billie (Carey) and her friends, backup singers Louise (rapper Da Brat) and Roxanne (Tia Texada), trying to break through to success in the Manhattan disco scene. A young record producer, Timothy Walker (Terrence Howard), signs up the girls to back up his less-than-gifted singer (Padma Lakshmi), going so far as to use Billie's voice for hers in a recording session.

But Billie's talent, not to mention her beauty, quickly catches the attention of top-rated disco DJ (Max Beesley), whose dream is to become a film composer and who accepts Walker's outrageous demand of $100,000 to buy out Billie's recording contract. Under Dice's guidance, Billie's star starts to rise and they start falling in love. But soon Dice is way over his head in trying to steer her career. Their sensitivity, mutual devotion, creativity and love for each other are put to an increasingly severe test, and when the fireworks occur, they play out in a trite way that makes Dice look needlessly foolish despite Beesley's best efforts. Luckily, Carey proves to be a capable actress, conveying an essential demureness and modesty that makes Billie appealing, offering an effective contrast to her blazing talent and sexuality. Billie is simply a very nice girl, coping the best she can and ever haunted by the memory of the mother who deserted her. .

Lanier and Hall unfortunately never quite resolve the question of how Dice could benonchalant about his debt to Walker, and this lack of resolution plays out awkwardly. "Glitter" is a handsome production, unself-consciously evocative of its era in settings and costumes. It is resourcefully shot, and locales are kept to a minimum without the film's seeming chintzy. Carey looks great and, starting with Pettiford, a memorable Julie in the recent "Show Boat" revival, and Beesley, she's been surrounded by a strong cast that includes Dorian Harewood and Grant Nickalls as powerful record producers and Ann Magnuson, who contributes a welcome amusing note as an overbearing control-freak publicist. Da Brat and Texada also lend warmth, humor and energy, and Eric Benét has plenty of presence as the handsome performer who looks to be a potential partner professionally and otherwise in Billie's life if Dice doesn't shape up.

"Glitter" could have set its sights higher or at least could have been more even in tone, but there's no denying that the material fits Mariah Carey like one of her skin-tight gowns.

Wasn't that nice?

Glitter Not Playing Everywhere?
I've gotten TONZ of e-mails telling me about how Glitter is not being played in certain cities. My friend Ashlee said they told her that it wasn't being shown in Georgia because of a freakin 2 second clip of the WTC. If that is true, then that's just rediculous. Give me a break! I mean, it's still freakin standing up, why would they not wanna show it??

Luckily a few fans told me that they were told it would still be showing in their cities on a different date. Whatever the case is, Glitter is not getting the promotion it needs, and I will try everything I can to help figure out why it's not being shown everywhere. I think a certain person whom we won't mention might have had a lot to do with it. UGH they never give up do they?

My friend Isa just sent this info, which sheds a little light on things at least. Here's what she told me:
Glitter was released in only 1,202 theatres. Its average per screen is $2,009, which is better than the average per screen for "The Others","The Musketeer", "Rush Hour 2", "Rat Race", "Rock Star","Jeepers Creepers", or "American Pie" over the weekend. Two positive reviews for Glitter Album
CD REVIEW: Carey's voice may be key to recovering career
Date: 09-20-2001
Publication: University Wire
Author: Kristen Jones

(Cornell Daily Sun) (U-WIRE) ITHACA, N.Y. -- Does Mariah Carey's latest musical effort, Glitter, sparkle or fade? Chances are, the controversy surrounding the release of this album will keep Carey in the spotlight for some time to come. One reason for the controversy is the drama of the physical and emotional breakdown suffered by the singer, which was speculated to be in part due to the failure of Glitter's fist single, "Loverboy," to be a chart- topper. New controversy surrounding Glitter concerns the accusation that Jennifer Lopez sampled the same Japanese techno song found in Carey's "Loverboy" for her hit single "I'm Real." All of these matters have brought negative focus on Carey's new album, but this collection of music should get its deserved attention and praise.

Sagas aside, the songs found on the Glitter soundtrack are strong. The album is successful in doing what Mariah Carey does best -- combining a series of slow, heartfelt ballads that showcase her talented vocals with poppy tunes that make you want to throw on your dancing shoes -- to make the album a cohesive listening experience.

One unique aspect of this work is that it is not an hour of nonstop Mariah Carey vocals. She has collaborated on six out of the 12 songs with a variety of artists, most of which are rappers. Da Brat, Ludacris, Mystikal, Eric Benet, and several others are featured artists on Glitter. The guests create a mixed sound in their cameos without making the songs sound like one continuous rap track.

A highlighted song on Glitter, "If We," features Ja Rule and Nate Dogg in conjunction with Mariah's powerful vocals. If the fact that everything Ja Rule touches has turned to gold lately has any implications for this track, we should be hearing plenty of "If We" on the airwaves soon.

"Didn't Mean to Turn You On" is a good example of Carey's ability to combine sassy lyrics with strong vocals to create an energetic song that is very contagious.

Carey's remake of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" is also a high point to listen for. The aid of Busta Rhymes, DJ Clue, and Fabulous help to create a tune with the potential to become a dance club favorite.

"Reflections" displays the softer side of Mariah. The song is both one of internal sorrow and personal strength that showcases Carey' s ability to connect with her audience through the power of musical storytelling.

If you are already a devout fan of Carey, this collection of songs will not disappoint you. Mariah delivers as always. However, if the pop diva doesn't already have a home in your CD collection because she does nothing for your musical taste buds, Glitter won't make you a new addition to her fan club. But coming from one who was not already a hardcore Carey groupie, I was thoroughly impressed with Glitter and am sure it will not fade away fast.

This one is from The University of Missouri Where I live! YAY!!

Carey's Glitter is pure gold

Pier Dominguez
Reporter
Glitter is the latest release from eternal pop princess Mariah Carey. After selling 150 million records worldwide, obtaining 15 No. 1 hits she co-wrote and produced and breaking records for longevity as a chart-topper, one would think Carey is out of firsts.

However, she is releasing her first motion picture and her first album for Virgin Records.

The album has some of the most powerful ballads Carey has written in a long time, along with some deliciously upbeat, synthesizer-infused '80s music that will serve as the background for her motion picture.

Also present in the album is Carey's continuing dilemma to please the fans she gained as pop's Cinderella while trying to follow her own artistic leanings that lead her to indulge in her passion for hip-hop/R&B. This produces varied results on this album.

The most unfortunate thing about the album is the fact that it opens and closes with its least effective song, "Loverboy." The single was released earlier this year and became the first debut single from a Carey album not to make No. 1. The song is a laid-bare R&B confection with rap interludes that make Mariah's powerful eight-octave range seem irrelevant and out of place. The remix, which opens the album, plays even heavier on the rap.

And that dichotomy is Carey's greatest failing in songs that could have otherwise been glittering gems. In "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," Mariah's lower-range husky mutterings seem out of place amidst the rapping of guest artists Fabulous, Busta Rhymes and DJ Clue. Fortunately, the song's funky '80s groove saves it from actually bombing. Ditto for "Don't Stop."

The most successful of the upbeat songs is the fabulously funky "If We." The song fuses '80s techno with elements of modern pop and R&B and actually showcases Mariah's voice. The song's appeal though, is mostly based on its catchy chorus, which is the only part of the song that rids itself of the out-of-place rapping by Nate Dogg.

The album's peak comes in the form of an elegant, touching Carey-penned ballad that manages to showcase her voice without sacrificing emotion. Thematically, "Reflections" is presented as an abandoned daughter's plea to her mother. However, Carey has always been quite elliptic with her revelations and it's not difficult to read other meaning into the words.

In a voice that can only be described as soulfully virtuous, Carey sings of her former husband, Tommy Mottola: "Reflections of your love have come to wither ... a picture fades of you and I together/ I haven't come to terms with how we said good-bye."

Then she seems to ask Mottola directly: "Did you really care?/ Care at all for me?"

Carey mines more personal territory in the subtly devastating ballad "Twister," a tribute to her personal wardrobe assistant, Tonjua Twist, who committed suicide last year. Accompanied only by a piano, Mariah's voice shines as she sings pleadingly, "Dear God, it's all so tragic/ And I'll never have the chance to feel the closure/ That I ultimately need"

And in one of the most candid, introspective lines Carey has ever written, she admits, "Yeah/ I'm feeling kind of fragile/ And I've got a lot to handle/ But I guess this is my way of saying good-bye."

The only strange thing about the song is the fact that no one responded to Carey's quite overt cry for help before it was too late.

Although Carey called her previous album Rainbow a chronicle of the emotional roller coaster that 1999 had been for her, Glitter has a much more powerful effect on the listener.

In the end, Glitter succeeds, and not as some '80s-themed record, but as a showcase for some of the most beautiful melodies and best singing that the world's biggest-selling female artist has ever done.

Diva in a dive: Mariah Carey struggles through her lost summer
by Stephen Schaefer
Friday, September 21, 2001

According to the rumor, after Mariah Carey saw an advance showing of ``Glitter,'' the movie she conceived as a rags-to-riches show biz saga that would parallel her life, she suffered a total collapse. The story isn't true. But what this nasty joke underscores is not just the fragile nature of creativity but the high stakes at play when world-famous celebrities, such as the flashy, octave-hurdling soprano, take a dive.

And the dive has been steep for the 31-year-old Carey, who since June has been hospitalized twice, watched sluggish sales for her latest record and now could well anticipate a less-than enthusiastic response to her first starring role in ``Glitter,'' which opens today. Whenever a movie is made, millions of dollars are at stake, along with corporate profits, executives' jobs and many other factors. But riding the wave - whether a triumph or a wipeout - are not just reputations but real people, such as Carey, who despite their wealth and fame appear to be pretty vulnerable as well.

``She's gone through a lot,'' nationally syndicated radio therapist Dr. Joy Browne said of Carey, whom she does not know personally. ``Making a movie that reportedly isn't fabulous, a tumultuous personal life, a record that's doing badly and issues with weight and being in the public eye.'' Carey, who had broken up with her longtime beau, the Latin singing heartthrob Luis Miguel, and broken off with Sony's Columbia Records to sign a phenomenally lucrative $20 million-per-album Virgin Records contract, reportedly was ``paranoid'' that her former mentor, husband and Sony boss, Tony Mottola, was out to ``destroy'' her career. The failure of her first ``Glitter'' single was apparently the breaking point; in July, she suffered a breakdown that required hospitalization.

Her record, released at a huge discount for 49 cents per single after it failed to crack the Top 10, eventually made a comeback to No. 2. But depriving her of the top spot reportedly was Mottola's doing: Destiny's Child's single was quickly rushed into release - at a copycat 49 cents a single, solely to keep Carey from chalking another notch on her long-held run on the No. 1 slot.

When Carey was released after her first hospitalization, she gamely set a new schedule to promote ``Glitter'' - the album and film that had been given new release dates. A cover story in Movieline magazine, obviously written before her troubles, quoted Carey as saying, ``I've been . . . taken advantage of like you wouldn't believe. They could do a whole miniseries on my life and my music, but they'd never run it. 'My life has been too sick and too twisted'.

Carey was released before she was prepared to return to work and, while her publicist wouldn't confirm it, she reportedly checked into the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA's Medical Center for a month. She was released last week and remains too fragile to do the usual TV appearances and press interviews that accompany a star's major studio release.

Now that everyone can finally see ``Glitter,'' a thinly disguised version of her own life that Carey conceived, produced and recorded songs for as well as stars in, the question within and outside the film and recording industries is: Can the movie score - with a missing Mariah? "You don't get over a massive breakdown in one week and then go on a tour to promote it,'' said Village Voice columnist Michael Musto. "For Mariah, since all that happened, a world war has started; it's hard to imagine how much promotion there would be. It's more about national solidarity.'' Even without the specter of a national disaster hovering over the nation, Musto would rate ``Glitter'' as a mostly doomed project - as music and movie.

"The movie's trailer was campy kitsch, particularly when she jumps up and down when her character gets excited to hear herself and says, 'I'm on the radio!' - because what drove her into the loony bin was that her record did not get on the radio. "The one song released from the album is really disappointing and the video isn't even up to par,'' he said.

There might be an irony in Carey's original title for her fictionalized film biography - "All That Glitters'' - which most people know continues "is not gold.'' That title implies disillusionment or at least awareness. "Glitter' just promises something gaudy and dazzling,'' Musto said. "The current trend in movies like 'Rock Star' or 'Almost Famous' is to show the seaminess behind the scenes. 'Glitter' seems kind of empty, perhaps prophetically so.''

(I'll make you think pathetic you assfrack :p) But Carey, who had a bit part in the Chris O'Donnell bomb ``The Bachelor,'' shouldn't be counted out completely.

"She was actually cute when she had dialogue in her music videos,'' Musto said. "I'm not ruling her out but it's rare when somebody goes from pop music to movies. Witness Madonna. Even Courtney Love, who has talent, hasn't developed a sustained movie career. That whole genre is trailed with the wreckage of people like Vanilla Ice and the Bee Gees.'' Browne said she, too, has been exposed to the show biz value system.

"Having gone on book and TV show tours, I know they're exhausting,'' Browne said. "I was in L.A. shooting a pilot and I was in a dressing room with a pink carpet and a huge fruit basket and I was eating a pear. When they called me to the stage, I had this half-eaten pear in my hand - and three pairs of hands popped out to take it. "I said, 'I'll do my own garbage.' But they weren't doing that because I was a wonderful person: I was their paycheck. If you're young enough and dumb enough, you can confuse people's attitudes to you, and when the adulation goes away a little bit it can be traumatic and lead to a questioning of, 'Who am I?' "It all means there's no place to hide and that feels really scary.''

Another Nice Glitta Review!
Mariah Carey
Glitter

We hope that Mariah Carey is allowed to play her new album in the clinic she still is in. because that would be the best therapy for her! You wouldn't expect this, but this album is a very happy one. It contains alot of 'disco vibes'. We guess Mariah hadn't had alot of work for this new album, because it contains a lot of cover. But she chose some very happy ones! Well, if you've grown up in the 80's at least. Ever heard of 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life'? A disco classic! Or, 'Don't Stop' (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)? Nice too! And Mariah didn't screw them at all! And of course there are some real "Mariah-ballads" on the album. The ballad 'Never too Far' will be realsed as a singlelater this month, and is one of the highlights of the album. Perfect for those dark days before Christmas. There are no real sad song on 'Glitter', We are wondering what Mariah is doing in the clinic, or would it be a state of mind on her new album.

4 Stars out of 5.

Mariah Carey's determination and hard work pay off in her film debut Glitter
text by Larry Flick ; photo by Bruce Macauley

For Mariah Carey, the completion of Glitter, her long-anticipated motion picture debut for 20th Century-Fox, was a dream come true. "It's a project that I've been working so hard to bring to the screen for a long time," Carey says. "It was a quite a journey for me; one filled with incredible discovery and invaluable lessons — and, ultimately, extraordinary joy. I look at the movie now that it's finished, and I feel nothing but pride. It's my baby."

The pop icon has good reason to feel such a close personal attachment to Glitter, a dramatic film with music that also features Max Beesley (The Match), Tia Texada (Nurse Betty), rap superstar Da Brat and renowned R&B/ jazz artist Eric Benet. Besides starring in it, Carey serves as the movie's executive music producer, collaborating with such heavyweights as the multi-platinum production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. And the sterling soundtrack — which pairs the artist with hip-hop luminaries such as Busta Rhymes, DJ Clue and Mystical — christens her new, record-breaking deal at Virgin Records.

"It was so important that I have that level of involvement in the film," Carey says. "Music is one of the most special things in my life. It would've been difficult for me to not have input in the film's musical direction. I felt a special attachment to my character, and I wanted the songs to reflect that."

Carey completed Glitter several months before being hospitalized for exhaustion. At this writing, the details of her illness are not a matter for public discussion, as the artist is opting to keep the focus on this project. Speaking before taking a break to rest, she notes that Glitter is the latest milestone in a career that has kept her in perpetual motion. "I've always lived that way. It comes with being me. It's a crazy life, but it's a good one." It's also a life rooted in the die-hard support of her fans. Although Carey has millions of admirers all over the world, few are as ardent as those in the gay community. In a sector ruled by clubs and divas, Carey has long been among its most beloved figures — largely due to the fact that she has consistently provided innovative, often re-recorded dance music versions of her singles. [Editor's note: In a 1999 issue of HX, NewYork's hottest DJs listed DavidMorales' mix of Carey's "Dreamlover" as tying withAlison Limerick's "Where Love Lives" as the top dance track of the decade.]

"I love nothing more than walking into a club and hearing one of my tracks boom from the speakers," the artist says. "It's an incredible rush. And, of course, the cutting-edge clubs — the ones so vital to breaking great new music — are the gay clubs. I'm so grateful to the support of the gay community. They keep a girl like me alive and kicking."

Although Carey's character, Billie Frank, eventually reaches the heights of music superstardom, that's where the similarities end. Set against the backdrop of the New York club world during the early '80s, Glitter is the story of a young singer who overcomes a turbulent childhood and struggles to find her true family and her true voice. "When we first see Billie, she's singing with her mom," Carey notes. "And there's this amazing chemistry between them. It's sweet, but it's also really heartbreaking because the mother is an addict. Billie ends up being taken away by the state because of this. She's so young when this happens, and she doesn't understand why her mother doesn't come back for her. As she grows up, Billie is driven to understand her place in the world—and why she had to grow up feeling very alone."

Years later, Billie is discovered by Julian Dice (Beesley), a charismatic DJ who soon becomes her partner, producer and lover. With Dice, Billie begins an exciting but often volatile and precarious journey. "They have this beautiful love situation," Carey says. "It's a great love story in that respect. But there are some parallels between Dice and [Billie's] mother. He's slightly out of control."

From there, the audience sees Billie's hunger for stardom. "Her need for fame stems from her issue of feeling abandoned," the singer says. "It's an intense need that drives her like nothing else."

The challenge for Carey as a budding actor was to commit to a story that is far from her own life history. "That was also a large part of the pleasure of this project," she says. "My music is often a reflection of things that I've experienced. In playing Billie, my goal was to relate to her issues, but commit to the idea that she's her own entity. She's not me. In the end, I was able to find common denominators between us, but I also felt like I was successful in creating Billie's own unique persona. That was beyond exciting."

While the world will view Glitter as the latest project to propel Carey to greater career heights, she has a far different point of view. "I see the film and the role of Billie as giving me the opportunity to learn to use a different emotional instrument," she says. "It's not about being a 'movie star.' Of course, I'd like Glitter to be successful—I want it to work commercially—but for me, making the film was more about craft, about being able to express another side of my creativity, in addition to singing and writing songs."

Carey points out that she didn't approach acting lightly. "I've thought about working in films for a long time," she says. "There was a point where it looked like movie work wasn't in the cards. But after studying acting and thinking a long time about the type of film project I'd like to be involved in, Glitter seemed right."

The film, which was produced by Laurence Mark (Jerry Maguire, As Good As It Gets), also proved to be quite attractive to director Vondie Curtis Hall, whose credits include Gridlock'd. He's also a well-regarded actor who earned kudos for his work on the television series Chicago Hope as well as in the films Eve's Bayou and William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet.

"I thought the script had an interesting premise," he says. "Throw in some fantastic music and a big star like Mariah Carey, and the project became irresistible to me."

The first challenge Curtis Hall faced was finding an actor with an energy and charisma to match Carey's larger-than-life presence. Beesley's initial reading with Carey made it clear to all that he was Dice. "The chemistry between the two of them jumped right out at us," the director recalls. "They seemed to gel immediately. We could feel this incredible vibe from the two of them. It was wild, and it worked."

Beesley was immediately impressed with Carey. "Upon meeting and reading with Mariah, I discovered she's very generous. We bonded, and we remained close throughout production of the film. I hope our mutual respect and admiration shows in the work that we did together."

She concludes that "making Glitter — from making the movie to creating the music and recording the soundtrack — were some of the best professional experiences I have ever had. It will be tough to top it. But, then again, I've always thrived on a good challenge! For now, though, it's wonderful to sit back and enjoy the rush of what I believe is the best work I could have done. I'm so proud."

Glitter Doesn't Make Top 10--Sad News!
LOS ANGELES (AP) - ``Hardball'' played just that, remaining the nation's No. 1 movie as ticket sales plunged on the lowest grossing weekend so far this year.

The Little League drama starring Keanu Reeves took in $8.2 million in its second weekend of release for a total of $19.4 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

``Glitter,'' the only new movie opening in wide release, made a paltry $2.5 million and failed to register in the top 10. The movie stars Mariah Carey as a pop diva on the rise.

``It's disappointing,'' said Bruce Snyder, president of domestic distribution for 20th Century Fox, said of the opening. ``With the climate in this country, I don't think I know quite what's going on.''

Overall, estimated weekend ticket sales for the top dozen films was $44.2 million, a 15 percent drop from last weekend and about 7 percent lower than the same weekend a year ago. It was the worst weekend for studios since Sept. 15, 2000.

Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor Relations, said jitters from the recent terrorist attacks, a lack of new movies and the Friday night celebrity telethon kept movie audiences away. Nearly 60 million Americans watched the telethon benefitting victims of the attacks.

``There were more stars in that than in any film in the marketplace,'' Dergarabedian said.

``The Others,'' a supernatural thriller starring Nicole Kidman, was the No. 2 movie with $5.2 million. The movie, in its seventh week of release, climbed the charts from the No. 5 spot last week. It has made $80.2 million and was the only movie in the top 10 whose receipts rose over the weekend.

``This is obviously an indication it is a word-of-mouth favorite,'' said David Kaminow, senior vice president of marketing for Miramax.

``Rush Hour 2,'' starring Jackie Chan, was in its eighth week on the Top 10 list and has amassed nearly $216 million.

Among other openers, ``Megiddo: The Omega Code 2'' was the No. 13 movie, making $1.5 million. The biblical thriller topped all films with average of $4,800 in sales for each of its 314 screens.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at North American theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations. Final figures are to be released Monday.
1. ``Hardball,'' $8.2 million
2. ``The Others,'' $5.2 million
3. ``The Glass House,'' $4.4 million
4. ``Rush Hour 2,'' $3.7 million
5. ``The Musketeer,'' $3.5 million
6. ``Two Can Play that Game,'' $3.2 million
6. (tie) ``Rock Star,'' $3.2 million
8. ``Rat Race,'' $3 million
9. ``Jeepers Creepers,'' $2.8 million
10. ``American Pie 2,'' $2.6 million

America: Tribute To Hero's
Mariah performed around 10:30 pm last night and the way it was set up was that an actor would talk and then a singer would perform. Tom Cruise was speaking and then Hero chimmed in. When I first saw Mariah, she looked like an angel and many of you agreed with me I see, while I was reading your e-mails. She wore a very lovely black dress and her makeup and hair was amazing!! She looked so beautiful and you can see for yourself by checking out the images below, courtesy of Mariah Vision Brazil and Ryan. To listen to Hero, you can download the zipped version by clicking here, which I created for Mariah Daily.

Mariah also came out in the finale and sang with all the artist. I believe the song title of the song was "America" but I am probably wrong on that. Anyhow MC had a microphone and didn't hog it at all. She was sharing with the people around her, including Hally Berry and Cindy Crawford. M did go up high at the end twice but majority of the time she kept it kind of low.

As far as I know, the show will not reair, as many of you were asking. But maybe HBO, MTV or another network will reair and if they do, I'll have the info up ASAP!

Tabloid News
Check out MC buying some fries, the pictures that were recently added to Gallery 2, in the October 2nd issue of Globe and Star. Star features a new shot from that day but it just shows M actually getting into the car, nothing that great. I'll try and have the scan for you soon.

Glitter A No Show In Theaters? ATT: Management
Maybe some of you will get lucky and Mariah's management will see this bit o' info. It seems that Glitter hasn't hit all the theaters in the USA and several of you are writing to me VERY upset! The following places have been reported as a non-Glitter location in the theaters:
Rhode Island, Canada, Pittsburg, Columbus Ohio, Palm Springs CA, Troy NY, Maine, Chattanooga TN.
It's not necessarily the whole state not having the movie but maybe only one or two towns will have it, which sucks for some fans!! Hopefully if Glitter does well this weekend, which it is expected to make over 5 million, more theaters will pick it up. Also, maybe M's management will see this and get 20th Century Fox to produce more copies of the films so the fans can see it.

About Glitter's Challenges
SUMar235 sent me a story from E Online

How to Make Glitter Shine Like Gold: It's the $100 million question for studio bosses everywhere: How do you release one of the biggest movies on your schedule, starring one of the biggest celebrities in the world--without said movie star?

Fox is about to find out with Glitter. The Mariah Carey vehicle, which echoes her real-life rags-to-superriches story, bows this week.

Coincidentally, Glitter director Vondie Curtis-Hall has been through this before, although under sadder circumstances, when he helmed Gridlock'd, starring the late Tupac Shakur. "He was dead before we opened," says Curtis-Hall. "In my mind, you get out there, and you sell the movie anyway. It's a question you probably need to ask Fox."

Fox's other challenge is to counter a wildfire of bad buzz that began when Glitter's trailer hit.

"People ripping on the movie has been bit of a bummer," says Curtis-Hall. "They're assuming because Mariah's in it, it's a crappy movie. I don't make crappy movies. I wanted to make a movie comparable to A Star Is Born or Funny Girl. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother."

If you've been reading any tabloid on Earth, you know Carey's been MIA for weeks, reportedly in hospitals on either coast. She's said to be recuperating from a punishing schedule of trying to promote the movie and its soundtrack on the international stage. Her health woes led to the cancellation of Glitter's press junket and promotional appearances.

On the other hand, you could say the studio dodged a bullet in the wake of the terrorist attacks. With other studios pulling violent fare and Glitter being the only major release in theaters this week, the number one spot's a sure bet. Also, there was a Hollywood miracle: At the very last minute, Carey decided to show up Thursday at a low-key screening of the film, sponsored by L.A.'s Power 106, a popular urban radio station.

"She certainly is a workaholic," says Curtis-Hall. "And certainly, she was put under the pressure of delivering a lot of material. At the same time, we were saying, 'Get some rest.' I'm saying, 'I need this music by this date.' And then she's signing her deal with Virgin. She couldn't stop.

"Mariah showing her face is good thing," he adds. "I think it's good for the movie. I'm sure she wants a little heyday. It's her big break as an actor. She doesn't have a false moment in the movie."

And where has Carey been, by the way? I hear she's at a Santa Barbara, California, resort. Crazy? Like a fox.

Fan Story
Nima went to the premiere of Glitter in L.A. and here is her review:

Hey Regina....This is Nima.  I went to the Premiere as I told you and OMG I am so happy to report as you can tell by the pics that Mariah looks so much better and very much rested.  Well, I'll just tell you what the stories didn't mention.  Mariah arrived at 7:10 in a black suburban and immediately went to the fans.  She said hi and was signing and greeting us fans (who were in a cage, virtually).  She looked so calm and was taking press pictures right in front of us.  I was so close to her, she looked so beautiful.  REGINA!! I told her you said hi and she said to tell you thanks and HI!  She signed my ticket stub and I asked how she was feeling and she said "Better".  She was so nice even though I said like two words to her because everyone was yelling to her. LOL, she would turn around and make faces and sigh to us. Then we all went inside and waited till Mariah sat in the theater and then the movie started at 8:00. It was sooo cool to have all the Mariah fans there cheering and clapping for her.  I'm sure you will see the movie.  We cheered and clapped for pretty much everything Mariah did, even the sex scene.  And we went crazy when she slapped Max.  We also responded when they showed the Twin Towers, which was very sad.  But the movie, as expected, was awesome and so funny and touching.  After the movie some fans waiting for Mariah. I waited for an hour but had to go cuz I had school at 7am.  It was such and awesome and unforgettable night!!!

Break-Out Review
Maickel was very kind and translated the review of Glitter in the new Break-Out magazine.

More than a glitter !!
We all hope that Mariah is recovering soon from her illness but we have too say one thing about her new cd...when we first heard this album {Glitter} we didn't hear sadness at all. The album is really swinging and we coudn't sit still when we played it. But of course there are some really Mariah ballads on the album, one of the best songs is Never Too Far! We know for sure that many people will cry when they hear this beautifull amazing ballad. It is the perfect song for the dark days for x-mis! Two of the best songs on the album are Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and Don't Stop. These are truly amazing when you close your eyes and listen to these songs you think that you are back in the 80's! So what we have too say is:
great album and we think everyone has to buy it!!!!!!

Mariah on Entertainment Shows
Mariah was on E! News Daily, Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood yesterday about the premiere. She said that she is doing fine and then mentioned how she had major lack o' sleep and went on to say whatever! She then corrected herself and said something like, NO, rest is important. I guess her doctor told her that a million and one times and she finally realized that she needs to rest, just like we all do. It was so great seeing her on t.v. again and she looked lovely as always! She will most likely be on all the shows again this Monday about the special on Friday night.

Good Movie Review
IntegralWill sent me the following review from Amazon.com.

Ok, I love Mariah Carey. I think she is the most underrated artist in today's market, but I had my reservations about her acting skills. I think it was because I felt like a person who was worried that his friend might look like a fool in front of millions. Well, Carey's no fool.

"Glitter" is one of those movie that sparkles from beginning to end. Carey is suprisingly good in her role as Billie Frank, the fragile young woman who suddenly is thrust into superstardom (Sounds familiar). Though she insist this not autobiographical there are a few coincidence.

Carey is one of those actress whose face is a camera's friends. She lights up the screen when she appears in a scene and she conveys a sense of excellence in her acting.

The movie's soundtrack is one of the most innovate soundtracks to come in years. With all songs co-written or co-produced by Carey we get a soundtrack that features songs that are appropiate for this movie.

As producer Laurence Mark say, "Carey is no Meryl Streep, but she doesn't need to be." True, she doesn't need to be, because she's Mariah Carey, a talent that can now include the title of good actress on her resume and be proud of it.

Ranking: 4/5

The soundtrack to "Glitter" will debut on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart at #7 (see "Jay-Z's Dynasty Continues As Blueprint Debuts At #1").

Glitter Hits The Big Screen--Premiere Pics
Glitter is now officially out in the USA!! Last night I went to a special screening of the movie and I thought Mariah did an excellent job!! In the beginning, I thought she smiled a little too much but towards the end, WOW! I even cried at the end, that's how great M was! She blew me away and I think she did an excellent job on acting, despite some of these Glitter reviews. Go out and see it guys, it was a great movie!

Mariah did attend the Glitter premiere and Isabelle was right there in all the action. She said she saw Louise, Mariah's manager also but no big name hollywood people were there because MC wanted to keep it low key due to the recent tragedy. Isabelle told me she sat six seats away from M and even talked to MC about Mariah Daily, which was coolio! She said that three fans, including herself, check out Daily and she said how she was a friend of mine. Mariah then said, "Where is she??" I guess she thought I was there but Isa then told her I was in NJ obviously! Isabelle said that Mariah looked amazing, so much better than on t.v. You can check out three images from last nights premiere in Gallery 2.

Mariah To Perform Again
Don't forget to check out Mariah tonight on the special hollywood special called, "America: A Tribute to Heroes." It airs at 9pm tonight EST and runs for two hours. Mariah will be performing Hero!

Check out Gallery 2 for brand new stills from Glitter. They come from a magazine called Roadshow and it's a Japan magazine. Many thanks to Shino, from Love Love Jack, for the images!

    GLITTER REVIEWS
Okay, I was torn on what to do here because of course there are good reviews and bad reviews. I came to the conclusion that I will only post GOOD reviews on Daily because bad ones will only get people upset and it's just not worth it. Who cares what other people think anyway? We love it and we love Mariah, so screw the critics! Here are two pretty good reviews...

    MOVIE REVIEW
    'Glitter' Outshines Standard Diva Fare
The week's only major Hollywood release offers considerable escapist By KEVIN THOMAS, Times Staff Writer (Article courtesy of Dana)

MPAA rating: PG-13, for some sensuality, language and brief violence. Times guidelines: suitable for mature older children.

Review: B+ "Mariah does a fine job acting..Max's character enjoys complexities"
    Musical Actors: Glitter
By Ross Anthony (Article courtesy of Lexi)

The film opens with a blues lounge singer and eight-year-old daughter tearing up the small pub stage with an endearing duet. Not long after, however, this down and out single mother leaves her daughter at a local New York orphanage, never to return.

Flash forward to 1983, the little girl, Billie Frank (Carey), dances and sings her way into fame with the assistance and resistance of producer bo Duce (Beesley).

It's a love/fame story packaged in a mother daughter drama. Each of the three angles fight for the stage, not a one finding enough screen time for full development. Additionally, aside from the initial separation with mom (which occurs in the first 10 minutes, Billie's "ride" isn't terribly bumpy, weakening the power of an underdeveloped climax. Actually, it's Beesley's character that enjoys the kind of complications we'd expect of the lead.

Still, the film has star appeal -- shining, even glittering at times with strong performances by all. Mariah's acting prowess won't earn her any Oscars, but she does a perfectly fine job with this role and her voice is simply amazing. Beesley's a little heavy-handed with the NY accent, but handles his Duce character respectably as well. Furthermore, his true musical talents, like Carey's add to the sparkle of "Glitter." Similarly, Eric Benet performs marvelously in both modes: singer/actor.

Earlier on, interesting transitional special effects spice the picture, but unfortunately, disappear all together by mid-film.

Older audiences might raise tired eyebrows (this audience laughed out loud) at the love story clichés herein, but the target audience will no doubt weep along with the leads. In sum, though rickety in corners, Carey's amazing vocal talents melt away the awkward moments; I'd have given her much more stage time at the end. I think young girls and Mariah fans will love this picture.

As for the film being autobiographical, Carey states, "I have a wonderful and close relationship with my mother (an opera singer), I don't think she'd appreciate people saying that the film is based on my life. I can just imagine her saying, 'Excuse me, I don't remember giving you up!'" Carey laughs, "So, while there are some parallels between my life and Billie's, on many levels they couldn't be more different."

    Glitter Album Review
Adele sent me a Glitter review from the San Diego Union. Check it out...

    Abstract:
Her hit single, "Loverboy," samples "Candy" and deals with one grateful for having met a sugar daddy worthy of candy kisses. "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" is a cover of Cherrelle's 1984 hit. (We won't talk about the Robert Palmer version.) Although revisiting the past is fun, Carey's versions of these tunes don't stand up.

Remember "Candy" by Cameo? Or "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life?" Mariah Carey sure hopes so, because if you're a fan of these songs, you'll either love or loathe what she's done with them on "Glitter," the soundtrack to her upcoming semi-autobiographical flick. However, on the original stuff, she not only glitters, but she shines. "Lead the Way," a ballad about self-discovery and love, looks destined to join "Always Be My Baby" and "Vision of Love" as part of the best-of-Carey catalog. Among the guest stars, Eric Benet helps inject life into "Want You," and Ja Rule and Nate Dogg give Mariah some street cred with "If We."

    Glitter Reviews!!
3 fans sent me their review of Glitta already, and here is what they had to say...

The first fan review: by aaron crave (boogiewoogieboi@aol.com)
After four years in the making, incessant rewrites, postponed productions and releases, Mariah Carey shines with her first starring role in the film, Glitter. I have just left the movie theater for a special screening of Glitter and before I start my review, I have to admit that before I even saw the movie, I knew i was going to like it. I am a huge mariah fan, and hence my biased review. Truly, Glitter is a wonderful movie. with superb directing by vondie curtis-hall, perfected screenwriting by Kate Lanier, stellar music, and the blushing couple Mariah Carey and Max Beesley.

One cannot help but say "aww" at the chemistry of the couple on the screen. I feel that Mariah fans will be pleased with the movie, and non-Mariah fans will start to like her. Before the movie started, there were some anti-Mariah individuals, but by the end of the movie, there were tears in their eyes, and you just can't help but say, "I told you so!" Da Brat and Tia Texada also add humor and sass to the movie, making the movie yield into comedy, but the painful childhood of "Billie" (Mariah's character) brings drama and sorrow. Many are skeptical with Mariah's acting skills.

In my opinion, I wouldn't hand her an oscar, but I felt she did a satisfactory job ...a lot better than some singer/actors out there! Mariah fans will also be pleased with the new sides of Mariah no one has really seen. Other than the singing, the dancing, the short ensembles, Mariah cries, slaps, cusses, throws a fit, plays the piano, and says the words "I love you" eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Throughout the movie a deep and haunting song called "Twister" is played, adding a gloomy ambiance to the movie, but the cinematography, showing the city of new york was done very well, and excellently depicts the 80's club scene. To make this review short: it was stellar! it's a movie that you can bring your date, your cousin, your family, your best friend, anyone! But don't forget to pee before the movie because there are some knee-slapping moments, and also don't forget some tissues. This one is a tear-jerker! as a Mariah fan, I am very proud of Mariah, and very proud of the movie's outcome. I can't wait til everyone sees it. In retrospect, Mariah shines, the music glitters ...plus an ending that will be talked about. Glitter goes for the gold!

Here's what John told me about his experience:
Wowww! This movie was great! I cried 3+ more it was so unexpected it was just wonderful to much to explain right now...well at the priemere we got huge tickets that had mariah on one side(glitter poster) and the date and sponsors on other side, but they took away when we went inside the theater...then when we went into the theater the had mariah on the rhintestone mortorcyle poster and movie poster posted all around the theater and entrance. I tore one of the motorcyle poster down.

When I got in the theater the radio station Z90 gave out "Glitter" logo sparkly stickers, Glitter movie poster, Mariah rhinestone motorcycle poster, Loverboy (lowrider car) poster, Mariah motorcyle rhinestone postcards, and Glitter Sampler Ennhanced CD with the glitter in graffitt on brick wall on front has on it Loverboy Remix, If We, Don't Stop, and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life also contains the trailor for the movie. I had so much fun it was like going to a mariah concert. I have so many posters, postcards, and stickers now...well you will definetely love the movie it was great i'm going to see it again soon...takes a huge u-turn you can never guess what is coming.

    Ashley:
I went to the Glitter advance screening tonight, and I absolutely loved it! I really don't know how objective I can be, though since I've idolized Mariah for almost 10 years, lol. I personally thought she was a very good actress (but of course not as good as she is of a singer), and I can't wait for Wise Girls to come out now. I don't really wanna give away the movie (part of it surprised me) but all I'll say is if you plan on going, bring tissues. I cried like a baby several times (for happy and sad moments), especially the beginnning & ending. Oh and Billie's best friends are very funny. :) Anyways, I definately plan on seeing it again, and I'd recommend it to anyone!

    Note From Danielle:
I'll have my review of tha movie tomorrow also, even tho I already know I'll love it, cuz the script is AMAZING! To quote Mariah, "Woah man, I'm like really excited about this whole thing! Ta Da Da!" LOL I'm gonna die hea! I can't wait to see this freakin movie!!!!!

    Mariah To Perform Again
    Thursday, September 20, 2001

Pop star Mariah Carey is to appear in a charity event this week - the first time she has performed since becoming ill this summer. The singer will appear and perform as part of a telethon in aid of families of victims of last week's attacks on the US. In July, 31-year-old Carey checked herself into hospital suffering from "extreme exhaustion" and suffered a relapse in September.

But she is now back on form and a publicist said she is expected to sing the song Hero. In a rare collaboration between US television networks, seven commercial stations will broadcast the Friday evening show called America: A Tribute to Heroes. Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon are among the names also to take part.

They will be joined by actors including Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. The show will raise money through telephone and online pledge donations for US victims of last week's attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. This will be Carey's first performance since the Grammy-award winner was forced to cancel all appearances during the summer.

There were rumours that she had attempted suicide, which were subsequently denied by her publicist. Her spokeswoman said that she suffered an "emotional and physical breakdown", as a consequence of working too hard and not getting enough sleep. Her movie - Glitter - was also postponed. Glitter is Carey's first starring role. She plays an aspiring pop singer and is also one of the film's producers.

Carey was raised by her mother, a former opera singer and began singing at the age of four. She began to write songs while she was at school and soon after graduation had broken into the recording industry, making her debut on Columbia Records in 1990. She was the biggest-selling artist of the 90s and is best known for hits I'll Be There, Without You, Fantasy and Open Arms.

Her single Heartbreaker made her one of the most successful artists ever in 1999, when it became her 14th American number one single, a feat rivalled only by the Beatles (20) and Elvis Presley (17).

Mariah Carey To Resurface For 'America' TV Tribute
Mariah Carey, Wyclef Jean and Willie Nelson are the latest musical guests to contribute their talents to "America: A Tribute to Heroes," a two-hour, telethonlike special set to air simultaneously on several networks Friday night. The commercial-free event will raise money for long-term relief efforts benefiting those directly affected by last week's terrorist attacks.

The appearance will mark Carey's first public showing in months. The singer received psychiatric treatment in July after a physical and emotional breakdown (see "Mariah Carey Reportedly Under Psychiatric Care Again") and canceled a scheduled Barbara Walters TV interview (see "Mariah Carey Puts Off Talk With Barbara Walters"). Nevertheless, her movie "Glitter" premieres Friday and its accompanying soundtrack album was released September 11 and will debut on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart at #7.

"America: A Tribute to Heroes" was hatched by CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox, all of which will broadcast the star-studded event live at 9 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. CT, and on tape delay for the Mountain and Pacific time zones. While the networks will cover the program's cost, other television, radio and Internet outlets are invited to share the broadcast.

MTV and VH1 announced their commitment to carry the show Tuesday, and BET, Comedy Central, Court TV, Discovery, E!, Fox Family, FX, HBO, Lifetime, PAX, PBS, Showtime, the Sundance Channel, Telemundo, TLC, TNN, TNT, the WB, Univision, UPN and a number of Westwood One and Clear Channel Communications radio affiliates, as well as Web site Yahoo.com, signed on Wednesday (September 19).

Mariah Carey to perform on U.S. benefit special
Mariah Carey will make her first major public performance following her emotional breakdown this summer at Friday's multi-network telethon for the victims of the Washington and New York terror attacks.

Reuters reports Carey is expected to sing her song "Hero" at the event, which will be simulcast on all four major networks Friday evening. Carey was hospitalized in July for what was described as a mental and physical breakdown. In September, she was hospitalized again after suffering a relapse.

The telethon, which will benefit victims of the Pentagon and World Trade Center attacks, will include performances by Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Paul Simon, as well as appearances by Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Calista Flockhart, Kelsey Grammer, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Will Smith and Robin Williams. I'll Be There
Mariah Carey will perform and appear on television for the first time since her July breakdown on ''America: A Tribute to Heroes,'' Friday's live, all-star benefit to aid the families of the victims of last week's terror attacks. She'll pay homage to the emergency workers by singing her hit ''Hero.'' She joins a roster that includes some of the biggest names in movies (such as Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, and Tom Hanks), music (Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder), and TV (Calista Flockhart, Ray Romano, Kelsey Grammer). Carey's first public appearance since her hospitalization will be tonight at a Los Angeles screening of her new film ''Glitter,'' an event that's also a benefit, for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Additional stars and outlets continue to sign on for the TV fundraiser. Wyclef Jean, Willie Nelson, and Jimmy Smits have added their names to the roster. Broadcast and cable networks that signed on yesterday to carry the event include BET, Comedy Central, Court TV, Discovery, Fox Family Channel, HBO, Pax, PBS, Showtime, the Sundance Channel, TLC, TNN, TNT, Univision, USA, and VH1. There will also be a webcast on Yahoo! and radio simulcasts on several Clear Channel stations. The show airs live and commercial-free from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time (8 to 10 Central time) and on tape delay in other time zones.

In addition to appearing on the benefit, Jim Carrey has pledged $1 million to the victims' families. Rosie O'Donnell is also donating $1 million, with her check going to the Red Cross' relief drive.

    What Number Is Glitter???
According to this article I got today, Glitter is #4 on the list, but people have e-mailed Regina and I saying #6, and someone else said #7, soooo... LOL I guess we'll find out whenever Billboard.com posts the new album charts on their site. Talk about confusing! Even though it's not #1, it's still close! Here is what the article I read says

In a week that saw big-name acts such as Bob Dylan, Mariah Carey, and Jamiroquai making top 10 debuts in the Canadian album chart, homegrown hard-rockers Nickelback emerged as the big story. According to sales data compiled by SoundScan Canada, Nickelback's new album "Silver Side Up" sold 43,611 copies during its first week of release, debuting at #1. The band performed big south of the border, too, debuting at #2 on sales of 177,986 -- although that was a fraction of the sales enjoyed by hip-hop titan Jay-Z, who moved 426,550 of his #1 debut album "The Blueprint." Jay-Z's album wasn't released in Canada until this past Tuesday, so his Canadian sales won't be reflected on the chart until next week.

Back in Canada, Dylan's "Love & Theft" debuted at third with sales of 10,457, followed by embattled Carey's "Glitter," which premiered in fourth with 9,457 copies sold and a fifth-place debut by Jamiroquai, who sold 9,348 copies of "Funk Odyssey." The other top 10 debut belonged to Slayer's "God Hates Us All," which turned up in ninth place, with sales of 6,341. Dylan's surprisingly strong showing on the charts fooled JAM! readers, who picked the songwriting legend to finish second to Bif Naked in this week's Chart Battle. Fifty-seven percent picked Naked's new album "Purge" to finish ahead of Dylan. In fact, "Purge" finished the week at #31, well behind Dylan's #3 placing. Meanwhile, Alicia Keys' "Songs In A Minor" (14,294) held on to second place, while System Of A Down's "Toxicity" (8,605) fell from a #1 debut last week to sixth spot. Destiny's Child's "Survivor" (8,558) slid from fourth to seventh, and Enya's "Day Without Rain" (7,960) dropped two to eighth. Slipknot's "Iowa" (6,159) parachuted from third to 10th.

    1. NICKELBACK -- "SILVER SIDE UP" (43,611)
    2. ALICIA KEYS -- "SONGS IN A MINOR" (14,294)
    3. BOB DYLAN -- "LOVE & THEFT" (10,457)

    Good News For Glitter!!
Mariah was mentioned in this article about the success of recent movies after the drama that happened in NY Tuesday.

'Hardball' slides into first with $9.3 mil b.o. opening
    By Roger Cels

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Moviegoing in North America held up relatively well during the first weekend following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. Receipts generated by the 103 features tracked by The Hollywood Reporter totaled $66.2 million, 23% higher than the comparable period in 2000, which was one of the weakest sessions of last year. Sales slipped 13% from last weekend.

Paramount's "Hardball" opened in first place with $9.3 million, a performance that met prerelease expectations. The story of a gambler (Keanu Reeves) who finds personal redemption in coaching a team of economically disadvantaged Little Leaguers succeeded by playing to a broad audience base. The expected family following showed up: Females predominated over males, and 50% of the crowd was under age 25, according to surveys conducted by CinemaScore.com on Friday night, suggesting a mothers-with-children turnout. That 20% of the audience came from the 18- to 24-year-old camp indicates that young adults without children attended as well. Going forward, "Hardball" can be expected to benefit from favorable word-of-mouth as 92% of the survey sample reacted positively.

That only one new feature -- Fox's Mariah Carey musical drama "Glitter" -- debuts nationally Friday represents another positive as it will play largely outside "Hardball's" crowd. Warner Bros.' "Training Day" starring Denzel Washington and Buena Vista's Tim Allen vehicle "Big Trouble" were pulled from Friday's schedule because of story line concerns related to the terrorist situation.

Sony's "The Glass House," which also opened in wide release Friday, placed second at $5.7 million, a performance that likewise was in line with prerelease projections. The thriller about two teenagers (Leelee Sobieski and Trevor Morgan) who take parental rebellion to new heights garnered a good 83% favorable audience rating while playing to a primarily mature market. Universal's "The Musketeer," the top feature the previous weekend, was cut nearly in half in its sophomore session to $5.5 million. The period swashbuckler starring Justin Chambers stands at $17.8 million after 10 days. Sony's romantic comedy "Two Can Play That Game" placed fourth with $4.8 million, a slide of 40% in its second soiree. Sales for the Vivica A. Fox-Morris Chestnut outing sit at $13.3 million.

Dimension's "The Others" continued to draw crowds in its sixth weekend, easing a modest 20% to $4.6 million. The horror-thriller featuring Nicole Kidman has generated $73.4 million. New Line's "Rush Hour 2" was next at $4.1 million, off a mild 29% in its seventh stanza. The Jackie Chan-Chris Tucker sequel has done $211.1 million. MGM's "Jeepers Creepers" eased 38% in its third term to $3.8 million. The teen-oriented horror item has claimed $29.7 million. Universal's "American Pie 2" earned $3.6 million in its sixth contest, down only 24%. Revenues total $135.9 million. Paramount's "Rat Race" finished ninth at $3.55 million, a decline of only 20% in its fifth foray. The comedy has amassed $47.7 million.

Warners' "Rock Star" rounded out the top 10 falling 44% in its second weekend to $3.4 million. The drama toplining Mark Wahlberg has raised $11 million. In limited-release action, Sony Classics' "Haiku Tunnel" generated $35,386 in eight locales in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Josh Kornbluth co-wrote, directed and stars in the comedy. Artisan's "Soul Survivors" got slammed in its second weekend, losing 49% of opening-weekend sales to $587,269 in 604 situations.

    Mariah in L.A..
I found this article about Mariah from the NY Daily News, saying that she was actually released from the hospital on the 11th, and hasn't been to NY since. What depressing news she had to hear after being released from that place :(

    Mariah In LA
On the morning of the attack, Mariah Carey was released from the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. It seems like ancient history now, but that's where she was hospitalized for a week following a relapse of the emotional breakdown she suffered in July.

After she got out, Carey and her brother, Morgan, planned to fly back to New York with Nancy Berry, the Virgin Music exec who signed the singer to the label. But they couldn't go anywhere last Tuesday.

Early reports had the Carey siblings checking into the Beverly Hills Hotel to wait until the airports reopened. But they actually went to Berry's house and did little more than watch the story play out on TV.

Carey's rep, Cindi Berger, never confirmed her client's whereabouts last week and continues to decline comment. Considering that Carey's Tribeca apartment is fairly close to Ground Zero, I'm betting that she will choose to remain on the West Coast for now.

    Eric Benet Talks About Glitter
Thanx MUCH to Nicho for this article about Eric Benet, who plays "Rafael" in the movie :) I only added tha parts about the movie

Benet reflects on new film, album and Halle
    By NICK CARTER
    of the Journal Sentinel staff
    Last Updated: Sept. 18, 2001

On Friday, R&B singer Eric Benet makes his feature film debut in "Glitter," playing the on-screen paramour of Mariah Carey in a romance set against the '80s music and night-life scene.

Yet despite his success, there's no time to relax, he says, referring to his being on the brink of releasing another album and making his big-screen debut. "Things are more comfortable this time out. I'm much more established now. But I'm still under the gun, so to speak. The goals, investment and expectations are even higher this time out. That's just part of the game when you get to this stage. Every new level of success breeds a slightly higher level of expectation."

    Carey's advice
Despite the heavy coverage of Carey's nervous breakdown in the press, Benet said she didn't seem inordinately stressed out while they were filming "Glitter."

"I noticed nothing but normal behavior on Mariah's part, at least verbally," Benet says. "She conveyed some distress about a house she was having remodeled, and some other biz-related matters. But she didn't seem like someone on the verge of a breakdown." He recalls that one day after shooting in Toronto, where most of the "Glitter" was filmed, he and Carey went out for dinner. To Benet's surprise, Carey didn't have as much a single bodyguard with her.

"She told me (about security), 'If you show it, it just encourages attention,' and I pretty much agree with that approach," Benet says. "It's gotten a little bit harder to go out in public during the last year, but for the most part, I can go anywhere I want. If you don't flaunt you or your situation, most of the time you won't be bothered."

    Keeping track of tracks
After lunch, Benet steers his Ford Excursion toward his condo, so he can retrieve a homemade CD of select tracks from "Better and Better." One of the new songs, "It's Just the Way," is a duet with Carey.

Benet is confident that he's come up with some of the best music he's ever done. He's also certain that today's R&B climate is as ripe as ever for his music. And he knows that all he can do is put his most focused efforts forward and let fate determine the rest. "I just figure that all that's gone down in the past 10 years is for some larger purpose that may or may not include my personal influence or even awareness," he says. "All you can do is hope things get better and better."

    Mariah Goes For A Walk
BEVERLY HILLS, the United States, sep. 17th, 2001. - After being boarding by nervous crisis in one of the hospitals most important of the United States and to recover in the house of his mother, Mariah has decided to take a stroll on the streets of Beverly Hills.

The American singer stopped in the restaurant Kate Mantilinís to take a light breakfast.

We do not know if it is coincidence or it did it to intention, but the clothes of Carey were like the flag of its mother country: playera lined on red blue target and and chamarra.

What yes him note is the sadness on happened the week last in New York or can be suffering still its relapse.

She walked solita, without escort and her mother, which is strange, because in addition to her state of health, after the happened attacks Tuesday it seems illogical that her entourage leaves her single.

Glitter shows La Carey bravely striving to merge three incongruous styles. First, there's the '80s-hued material reflective of her imminent film debut (after which the set is titled). Then, there are the ballads that are an essential element of her every album. Finally, she indulges in her fascination with hip-hop culture—a move that should continue to confound fans who pledged allegiance to the diva during her early pure-pop phase. It's a tricky juggle that Carey handles with earnest energy. The result is a mixed recording that swoops from soaring highs like the quietly heartbreaking "Twister" and the deliciously funky "All My Life" to painful lows like "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," during which she sounds disconnected from a groove overpowered by a slew of rappers. Ultimately, Glitter is a minor misstep in a stellar career that has earned the singer a few free passes.—LF

    Magazine News
Mariah is in a couple magazines this week including Star, Mira and Us Weekly. She is National Enquirer too I believe because I saw her on the cover. Diva JJ and Eric typed out the TABLOID article and here they are (note, don't take seriously).

STAR: Mariah Carey Blames J. Lo for Breakdown!
Tragic pop diva Mariah Carey is blasting archrival Jennifer Lopez as the cause of the devastating mental breakdown that has driven her back over the edge and into a locked mental ward under a suicide watch, say insiders.

Sources say tragic Carey, 31, is convinced that J. Lo is in league with Carey's ex-husband, Tommy Mottola- Lopez's boss at Sony Records. She believes that they are involved in an evil conspiracy to do all they can to destroy her career.

"It is truly tragic," says an insider.  "Poor Mariah seems delusional and really thinks that Jennifer and Tommy will stop at nothing to destroy her.

"She keeps saying: 'Jennifer Lopez is out to get me.'

"This obsession and paranoia about J. Lo has nearly driven Mariah insane.  She just couldn't take it any more and has gone into a total meltdown.

The fragile songbird was admitted to the mental hospital of the famed UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on August 31, following her second meltdown in as many months.

Star has learned the horrifying details of Carey's living nightmare.  Pals tell Star that the tormented singer:

    -         Roams the psycho ward ranting and raving about J. Lo
    -         Flashed her breasts at staffers, crawled around on all fours and took a soapy bath with her clothes on.
    -         Desperately tried to escape from the high-security facility three times.

Carey's anger toward Mottola is understandable.  They went through a bitter 1993 divorce.  But the singer's hatred for Lopez only became clear to the public when she viciously attacked her rival in a magazine interview that hit newsstands just as she was put in the hospital.

When interviewer Vanessa Grigoriadis told her she has just talked to Jennifer, Mariah said: "I bet it was really intellectually stimulating.  I bet you could just see the depth in her eyes, she was so soulful.

Then Carey, who has complained about insomnia, blasted the Latin lovely for bragging that she gets either hours' sleep every night.

"If I had the luxury of not actually having to sing my own songs, I'd do that too," she sniped.             Sources say Carey's paranoia and Lopez-loathing was fueled by her belief that a melody from her single Loverboy found its way into a song on the CD J. Lo.

But the hatred continued to consume Carey long after the interview and started to affect her behavior in the last week of August, insiders reveal.

During a meeting with top record execs in L.A., a source says: "Mariah started spinning around the room and was shouting: 'You can't see me, I'm invisible.'

Carey, her brother Morgan, a private nurse and a bodyguard took her to Santa Barbara to rest.  But her behavior became even more erratic.

They were staying at the celebrity-flavored San Ysidro Ranch, but after the singer complained about noise the gardeners were making, they moved to the ultra-luxurious spa resort Bacara.

But the change of scenery didn't help.  Carey was seen drinking champagne and standing outside her suite, sobbing her heart out.

As her mental condition appeared to worsen, she started to unravel before her brother's eyes.  Worried Morgan desperately called her doctor, who told him to drive her to L.A. immediately, say sources.

The frantic brother rushed her 90 miles to UCLA's Medical Center by car.

Once there, sources say emotionally devastated Carey was locked up in the A-South ward of the facility's Neuropsychiatric Institute.  She was admitted under a false name, sources confide.

"When she was taken into the psych ward, she kept rambling about how Jennifer and Mottolla are out to get her and how he is grooming Jennider to be her clone," says another source.

"She said he is dressing her in the same kind of clothes, giving her the same kind of songs, and even trying to make her sing like Mariah

The following day, he alias was changed as her handlers desperately tried to keep quiet the news of the latest breakdown, and she was transferred to the neighboring A-West ward- reserved for more serious mental cases.

Sources tell Star that desperate and frightened Carey tried to escape three times within the first two days on the high-security ward and was classified as an "AWOL risk," according to insiders.

Soon after, the troubled star pulled up the skimpy halter top she was wearing to flash her breasts, says one visitor.  The source says she also yanked down her shorts in front of both male and female patients.             And she crawled around the ward on all fours like a baby and had to be spoon-fed by nurses after she slopped food all over her clothes, the source adds.

Sometimes, Mariah seems to revert back to her childhood," confides another source.  "She talks gibberish- almost like a 3-year-old.

Friends feel that she does this because her adult life has just become too overwhelming for her to handle."

Carey, whose new album Glitter was recently released, would hardly eat or sleep and even took a bath fully clothed, says a source.

She rambled on and on about the Bible and kept talking about the Black Sea," says another source.  "Then she would rant that Jennifer Lopez and Tommy Mottola were out to get her, to destroy her career and he along with it.

Friends have been told Carey is manic-depressive, suffering from bipolar-disorder.

When she was admitted, pals say, she insisted that she had been up for seven straight days with hardly any food or sleep and that for weeks she had not taken the medicine she had been prescribed, says another source.

That is why she has been in such bad shape.  Once her medicine is no longer having any effect, she goes into a really deep depression until her body just gives up," a source explains.

When manic-depressives get into this state, they often become violent- both to themselves and others.  They can become totally erratic.

Pals say that it was later discovered that she was secretly stashing medication under her mattress in the hospital after pretending she had swallowed the pills.

Friends fear she was planning to build up a stash and use it for a suicide attempt, says another source.

Carey was admitted to A-West because it houses the most seriously disturbed patients.  It has a "rubber room" where the worst cases can be restrained.

But unlike most patients on the coed ward, say sources, Mariah was given a private room with its own toilet, although she bathed in the communal bathroom.

Pals say her room was filled with flowers sent by well-wishers, relieving the drab beige of the ward, and she had a fluffy duvet on her bed and a pink stuffed toy to cuddle up to at night.

Mariah spent her time watching videos- including the Dustin Hoffman mental-illness classic Rain Man- and listening to rap and her own music on a child's Hello Kitty CD player, say pals.

Carey, who recently signed a $100 million-plus record deal with Virgin Records, had been under tremendous pressure to recover from first bout with mental illness.

In July, as Star reported, she was hospitalized after security went to her New York City hotel room and found the freaked-out star with blood dripping down her arm.

Sources say she has been distraught about the breakup of her two-year romance with Mexican crooner Luis Miguel.

She scheduled a Sept. 12 interview with Barbara Walters on ABC which was postponed indefinitely after her most recent breakdown.  She was also due for a promotional tour for her first movie, Glitter, and its soundtrack.

Carey's pathetic state has experts and family members worried that she is in deep trouble and could take years too recover fully- if she ever does.

"Carey's family is terrified that Mariah might never snap out of this," says an insider.              The troubled songbird's attorney denies that she refused to take prescription medication, tried to escape any treatment facility, flashed her breasts or said derogatory things about Lopez.

But one thing is certain, say experts.  The key to her sanity is for her to continue her treatment, take her medication and then realize that Lopez and Mottola are not out to get her.

In an interview after Mariah's first breakdown two months ago, Carey's ex-husband took a step toward mending their relationship.

"I am deeply saddened by Mariah's recent illness, and I remain completely supportive of her both personally and professionally," Motolla told an interviewer.

"Any allegation that I have hindered her career now or in the past is totally untrue.

But Carey's obsession with J. Lo may be stronger than ever.

"Mariah hates Jennifer Lopez," says another source.  "She is convinced that Jennifer is out to destroy her, and her paranoia has taken over her life.  She just kept saying: 'J. Lo is driving me insane.'             "And now it appears she has.

    US Weekly: Mariah's Demon's Return
As she recuperated at a California Spa from her recent breakdown, MARIAH Carey seemed on the road to recovery. But something snapped and now she's back in the hospital. Can the singer loosen up before she looses control of her life?

Mariah Carey seemed to be getting her groove back. After spending 2 weeks in July at Silver Hill, a sanitarium in New Canaan, Connecticut, for what her  spokeswoman called a "complete emotional and physical breakdown", Carey appeared to be taking the break she needed – lounging at her mother's house in Goldens Bridge, NY enjoying a short holiday in Puerto Rico and then, during the week before Labor Day, checking into Bacara, a Santa Barbara, California spa where suites run as much as $2000 a night. Surrounded by bodyguards but looking happy, healthy, the 31 year old Grammy winner chatted with fellow vacationers and signed autographs for children. "She was smiling and really outgoing" said one guest.

But behind her smile, it appears that Carey was pushing herself toward another breakdown. Anxious about her new movie Glitter, which opens September 21st, and the accompanying album, the hard-driving Carey was, according to sources, meeting with executives at her label, Virgin Records, soon after leaving Silver Hill. She was also reportedly consumed with thoughts of her perceived rival, Jennifer Lopez. "It was too much for her," says a music industry source. By Labor Day, Carey had become so anxious, she suffered a relapse and checked herself into the UCLA Medical Center in LA on September 4th. According to some reports, unconfirmed by Carey's spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, the star's doctor's have asked that she remain in the hospital for 2 weeks "She's had an emotional setback" an acquaintance told the NY Daily News.

At the same time, Carey abruptly canceled a September 12th interview with Barbara Walters and a Tonight Show appearance set for September 14th. "The Sad thing is that this poor child has problems," said Walters. "As soon as she's well, we'll do it." Said Berger: "She needs more time to rest, and that's it. That's all I'm going to say."

Carey's feud with Lopez now seems more intense than many at first believed. In its October issue, TALK Magazine reports that Carey's July 25th plate-smashing tantrum at TriBeCa's Grand Hotel m which resulted in her stay at Silver Hill, was in part caused by her belief that music was "stolen" from her latest single "Loverboy." Carey borrowed part of the Japanese techno song "Firecracker." She claims that Lopez later used the same sample on her own single -- which was released first -- and is convinced it was no coincidence.

"It literally drove her crazy, " a source said Carey thinks that Lopez had been deliberately styled to look like her. In the article, she also took potshots at her rival. Upon hearing that the TALK writer had met Lopez, Carey sniped, I bet that was really intellectually stimulating. I bet you could see the depth in her eyes." And when Carey, an insomniac, heard that Lopez claims to get 8 hours of sleep a night, she responded: "If I had the luxury of not actually singing my songs, I'd do that too."

Her anger with Lopez appears to stem from a conflict with Carey's ex-husband, Sony music President Tommy Mottola, 51, who she claims has tried to wreck her career since their 1997 separation. Carey apparently believes that Mottola has been grooming Lopez, who is under contract to Sony, to replace her as the queen of pop. Lopez has no comment about Carey's remarks, and Mottola, in a statement, said, "I am deeply saddened that Mariah is back in the hospital and trust she is getting the best of care on her road to recovery."

Carey has hired a San Francisco private investigator Jack Palladino to look into what he describes as a "smear campaign" against her. "Tommy is attempting to control her career, her future and her life," Palladino told Us Weekly in August about Mottola, who discovered Carey at 18, nurtured her to stardom and married her when she was 23 and he was 43. "Something Mariah didn't bargain for when she left Tommy Mottola was how much he was someone who could run interference between her and the real world," says Mark Goulston, a psychiatrist at UCLA who has treated many celebrities (though Not Carey). "My guess is that when she broke free of him, instead of picking and choosing stuff that was in her best interest, she said 'I'm not going to let him control me anymore and I'm going to say yes to everything."

The world may have to get used to the singer's saying no. With Carey likely to be hospitalized for the Glitter premiere, executives atFoxx, the movie's studio, were unsure whether she would be doing anypublicityy for the film she coproduced. But getting Carey to turn down other projects so she can rest won't be easy. "The hardest thing for her to do issitt still," saysDavidd Anspaugh, who directed her in Wise Girls, which is set to be released in 2002. "Mariah does what she wants to do" says Anspaugh. "Her people can advise her but ultimately, Mariah listens to Mariah." US

    EXCLUSIVE: Mariah Leaves UCLA
Mariah is now out of UCLA and there are 10 pictures of Mariah in Gallery 1, so check them out. Plus, there is an article that Eva found and Anna told me a little about. In the pictures Mariah is eating french fries in Malibu and is walking with Louise McNally, Josephine and a bodyguard. Now the bodyguard is not one of Mariah's normal bodyguards and Anna, who is a HUGE Luis fan, says it looks like "Big Daddy" one of Luis's main bodyguards. Many believe the man with Mariah in the baseball cap is Luis but I don't believe it is.

Mariah looks really relaxed in a pair of jeans, pink t-shirt, backpack, hair pull back, sunglasses and no makeup. Plus, the interesting part is that MC is wearing SNEAKERS!! It is known Mariah always wears high heels, so it's cool to see her in sneaks.

To check out the video player of the pics, check out this link! All the caps are in Gallery 1, as mentioned above though!

Several of you have contacted me about the spelling error above in the title graphics. Danny, who created the images, made an error in the original graphic and since then, has lost the main versions. Therefor, we are keeping the images up because he worked so hard on them and it was a cool idea.

    Talk Magazine
Susana told me that the Talk Website features the following paragraph on Mariah.

    MIND OVER MARIAH
"I'm a spiral queen," Mariah Carey told Talk writer Vanessa Grigoriadis in mid-summer, alluding to her frequent dives into depression. At the time, Grigoriadis didn't know Carey would spiral down so soon, since she had just signed a record-breaking contract with Virgin records and seemed on the top of the world. But just a few months later, Carey's fragility became apparent to the world. Her mental breakdown — which onlookers have blamed on everything from alleged drug abuse (Carey's friends maintain that she abhors drugs) to her break up with Latin music star Luis Miguel– actually may have another root, Grigoriadis discovered: Carey's belief that Jennifer Lopez — aided by Carey's ex-husband, Tommy Mottola–had pilfered part of the melody from the single "Loverboy" and used it on Lopez's album J.Lo. In fact, Carey was able to use the case of the allegedly pilfered loop during her negotiations with Sony to escape her contract, warning them she would go public with what she considered misappropriation or extreme negligence.

    Request Never Too far
Here is what Tony told me, which might help you all when you are calling in...

Friday I hammered TRL with 16 votes for NTF.  Thursday I got thru about 12 times, Weds, about the same.  I'm at work though with a speed dialer and many lines.  As soon as I hear Carson say "Awesome" I hit redail and about 3/4 of the time I get thru right again.  Also by 10 mins after the hour, the lines are all busy.  But I go by our master clock and my first call goes thru less than a second past 3:00 ET.  So I see what it takes to get into the Top 5, dial at the top of the hour and hammer the phone lines for the first 10 mins.

Vote online by clicking here but the most important way to vote is calling in and here is how you can help!
    Dial:

I am redoing this main page right now and working in the news! It should be up in about 1-2 hours. I am worried for his safety and pray he is okay!! Also, I will continue to pray for all the families in NYC and the victims of this horrible event!! God Bless!

It features a picture of Mariah in her black mini from Luis's birthday party. It's not the best picture of her but it's great that she made the best dress. It says...

Donning a very little black dress, singer mariah carey, star of the upcoming film Glitter, lit up the room at a restaurant in marbella, spain, in april.
She is also in Teen People, the October issue. She is on page 50 with a picture from TRL and also on page 89 about her breakdown.

    3 Days
On Tuesday, just three days away, Glitter will be released in the USA!! It's getting really close and exciting now and on Tuesday, a special countdown will begin for the Glitter movie, being released on September 21st!!

    TRL Takeover
Amy (Amy@lambzomariah.com) wanted me to add this to Daily for you all to check out. It would be cool if there was a huge crowd outside TRL on Tuesday and I will make sure to check it out.

Well, I just wanted to say that since Mariah is unfortunately back in the hospital and won't be able to promote Glitter... I think the fans should do it for her. :)  I know that me, Jakki, Heather, Brina, Nacho and Courtney will all be in NYC from September 10th through the 25th.  We'll be in Times Square in front of TRL on September 11th to show our love for Mariah.  It would be SO great if we could get tons of MC fans there to bring huge signs, banners, posters, t-shirts.. WHAEVA!!  We're going to paint the town with Glitter and hang around pretty much all day outside the Virgin Megastore supporting Glitter.  So basically this is just an invitation for any Mariah fans in the NY area to join us at TRL on the 11th to support Glitter and Mariah! Please join us!!!!

    Barbara Walters Interview Cancelled?
According to Access Hollywood and the people at ABC, the Mariah Carey interview was NOT cancelled as reported by many newspapers and news programs. The interview was postponed because it is believed that Mariah was admitted to UCLA for further help! It is confirmed sadly though, that she did cancel her Jay Leno appearance later this week. Entertainment Weekly did a cartoon of Mariah for their TV section and you can check out the scan in Gallery 1.

Here is an article about Mariah being hospitalized and cancelling her interviews...

    Mariah's Reps' Lips Are Sealed
    .c The Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) - Mariah Carey's publicist would not comment Thursday on a newspaper report that the singer, who suffered a nervous breakdown two months ago that delayed her new album and movie, has been hospitalized again.

The Daily News, citing anonymous sources, reported Thursday that Carey suffered a relapse and was hospitalized this week at UCLA Medical Center. Her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, would neither confirm nor deny the report.

``No comment,'' she told The Associated Press.

UCLA Medical Center spokesman Dan Page said he could not say whether Carey was admitted there.

Earlier this week, the Grammy-winning singer postponed an interview with Barbara Walters on next week's ``20/20,'' saying she needed rest. She also canceled a Sept. 14 appearance on ``Tonight,'' said NBC spokeswoman Carrie Simons.

Berger said it was unclear when Carey would be able to reschedule either show.

Carey's movie and soundtrack album ``Glitter'' were originally scheduled for release last month. The album's release was pushed back to Tuesday so Carey could recuperate from her July breakdown; the movie is now due out Sept. 21.

In her first starring role, Carey plays a singer struggling to find stardom.

Carey has sold tens of millions of records worldwide since her debut at Columbia Records in 1990. In April, she jumped to Virgin Records in a deal said to be worth as much as $20 million per album.

But her recent single, ``Loverboy,'' fared poorly on the radio; discounted sales pushed it to No. 2 on the Hot 100 Billboard singles chart.

Never Too Far #4 on TRL
Yesterday Never Too Far was #7 on TRL and today it jumped to #4. That is pretty amazing people and we need to keep voting now that we got it on the countdown!! Vote online by clicking here but the most important way to vote is calling in and here is how you can help!

    Mariah in Talk Magazine
On Wednesday night, Entertainment Tonight reported that Mariah was interviewed and will appear in the new issue of Talk magazine, in stores this week. Inside she bashes JLo and believes that JLo stole the sample for her song "I'm Real," that Mariah was going to use for Loverboy!! Mariah secured that sample last year and JLo stole it, as Mariah believes, for her song before she could use it. Mariah reported in an MTV interview that she changed it to a better sample, so we now know what song Mariah had to change!! Here is the original article from MTV where Mariah first discusses JLo, which she does not mention, stealing her sample..

A different kind of biting recently did get under her skin, however. It had to do with a song she was recording for the soundtrack to her upcoming big-screen debut, "Glitter" (out August 31). (See "Mariah Gets 'Glitter' In Her Eyes")

Although she wasn't willing to discuss specifics, Mariah had a word or two for the beat jacker who decided to use the same sample she was considering for a song on the "Glitter" soundtrack (August 21).

"Let's just say they did me a favor," she said, her voice rising in mock anger as she wagged a finger at no one in particular. "And they know who they are. And thank you, sweetie. And your friend who did it with you!"

While she conceded that anyone could have used the loop she was considering for the song, which she declined to name, Mariah said the lift exemplified why she took pains to shroud the "Glitter" recording sessions in secrecy.

With the real songs laid into the film, Mariah said she could finally rest easy after months of trying to throw potential song scammers off her trail ("Mariah Mixes 'Glitter' With Streetwise Grit").

"The whole thing was me saying, 'OK, how can this not get ripped off?' Let me come up with a fake title and not put my voice on this yet," she said, lamenting that it's still easy for in-process music to escape into a Napster-ized world.

You're more likely to hear this complaint from rappers, who often anxiously guard their unreleased tracks for fear other artists will hijack their song titles, sample ideas or catch phrases.

"Sometimes you really have to be concerned," said pal and producer DJ Clue, who produced two songs on the "Glitter" soundtrack. "Your ideas gets out there for a second ... people snatch one-liners from me and my crew all the time."

Clue said he knew Mariah was concerned that word would get out about what samples they were using, especially on a track he produced that loops Indeep's early-'80s club classic "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life." The dreamy disco cover, laced with rock guitar, features guest vocals from Busta Rhymes and underground rapper Fabolous, whose album will be released on Clue's Desert Storm label this summer.

So check out Talk magazine for that interview and more. Hopefully I'll have scans for you all soon. Here is another article that talks more about what Mariah said about Jlo (thanks PureMagination@cs.com)
Cat Fight! Mariah Snarls at J.Lo
First, you have to understand the background. Jennifer Lopez has signed withSony Records. That's Mariah Carey's former label. That's where her former husband,Tommy Mottola, worked his magic for her career. That's what Mottola is nowdoing for J.Lo. He's taken the sexy songstress under his wing and is turningthe spotlight directly on her. Oooh! That doesn't sit well with Mariah. Atleast that's the word from Entertainment Tonight, which reports on a meetingMariah had with magazine reporter Vanessa Grigoriadis. When Grigoriadismentioned to Mariah that she had interviewed J.Lo, Mariah said, sarcastically,"I bet it was really intellectually stimulating...I bet you could just seethe depth in her eyes, she was so soulful." Meow. Mariah didn't stopthere. She also scratched her claws--verbally, of course--at J.Lo's singingability. Jennifer recently said she gets eight hours of sleep a night to whichMariah snarled, "If I had the luxury of not actually having to sing my ownsongs, I'd do that too." It was soon after this interview with Grigoriadisthat Mariah had her much-publicized breakdown. The full interview is publishedin the October issue of Talk magazine. --CathrynConroy

Glitter Review: Mariah FINALLY ready to Fly?
JcCcT2504 sent me a review on Glitter from "The Flint Journal" and the author, Andres Heller, always disses Mariah and her music. However, for the first time ever, he gives her a good review. Check it out... Songstress Mariah dives into a movie this fall with a long awaited and much needed accompanying soundtrack. She makes her starring debut with "Glitter," in which she plays a struggling singer in the 80s. What a stretch, she should be proud.

The soundtrack showcases something Mariah hasn't shown us in a while, her voice. Yes, you heard me right, Mariah actually sings on this CD. But enough negativity, because this is actually a good CD. Mariah takes us back to the 80s with the remakes of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On." The authenticity of these songs is so unalloyed, it almost made me get up, and ehh, dance. Where has this Mariah been for the past, umm, 10 years? The CD could go without the rap cameos from every rapper in the business, but most of us should expect that from Mariah by now, and well it actually appeals to many. Mariah, using her dynamic vocals on what sounds like trademark Mariah Carey ballads, soars to a new maturity level in her music with "Lead the Way," "Never Too Far," and arguably the best written song on the CD, "Reflections (Care Enough).

The highlight of the album comes towards the end with a song entitled, "Twister," written for Mariah's late stylist. "She was kind of fragile/And she had a lot to grapple with/But basically she kept it all inside," Mariah writes in the song. The song hints to recent happenings dealing with Mariah's mental meltdown. The song is somewhat an inspiration, and reminds us of a previous Mariah song, "Petals."

The CD is far from perfect and has it's upsets such as "If We," featuring Ja Rule, and the debut track "Loverboy", which wasn't a complete wreck, but received little to no radio play. The CD for the most part is Mariah's best, and is very promising for Ms. Carey. The CD contains guest appearances from Cameo, Da Brat, Shawna, Twenty-Two, Ludacris, Nate Dawg, Mystikal, Ja Rule, and Eric Benet, who costars with Mariah in "Glitter," and duets with her on "Want You." Mariah, it took you practically your whole career, but you finally did it.
    Grade: A-

    Mariah's Cancellation
Anna sent me this next article from the NY Post Gossip Column...

MARIAH CAREY's cancellation of her much-touted interview next week with Barbara Walters doesn't really surprise anyone who has been observing the nervous breakdown in public of this very good singer. (She is now hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center.) Mariah has an album coming out and a movie just at this bad moment. Actually, I think she is the first person since Marilyn Monroe to go to pieces like this before the whole world.

Mariah has driven herself and driven herself. She doesn't know the meaning of "downtime." She fears if she isn't pushing every second, she'll lose ground. And she is competing on the level of today's underdressed, overgyrating other young singers. As a result, she stopped using her voice as her main instrument and began using her new blond hair and her body.

Relax, girl. Your many fans are with you!

Touching Little Paragraph About Our Mariah
"People ask me what I think of Mariah Carey and her condition, but that is not for me to judge. I love Mariah Carey and she saved my life plenty of days. I remember when I was on top and then I wasn't on top anymore and all those friends had gone. That is where she is right now. We need to reach out to her and pray for her and let her know she is loved. If you focus on being good to people, that is what you will get in return. Speak life. I am a living example of Christ being real."

    Mariah On MTV India
    Dear Danielle,
Hi! This is Hamza from Pakistan. I found the following Mariah article at MTV India's site. Anywayz Mariah is also the INTERNATIONAL ARTIST OF THE MONTH on MTV India. To listen to sound clips and read Mariah's bio plz refer to the following link: MTV India

Here is an interview they did with Mariah

Mariah talks about her fan site, protecting artists online and more. Take one fine-looking Mariah, add a bright pink sofa, a few large glasses of very expensive champagne, some big twirling disco balls, mellow lighting and a grinning MTV interviewer. Mix well together for ten minutes, and sit back to enjoy the results.

MTV: How does being a movie star compare with being a star of the music world? Mariah: You know what, I'm not looking at it as 'whoa I'm a movie star!', I'm looking at it as acting has been very therapeutic for me. I studied (acting) as a little girl but then also for the past three and a half years. And it wasn't really for this movie, it was just for myself and it helped me become a stronger more independent, more confident person. Someone more in touch with my emotions, and just more free. So even if I never made a movie, that's why I do it (act). What's great about this project 'Glitter' is that it's not about playing 'the shark game' or having to prove myself. Everything I do from singing to writing to acting, to whatever is about expressing myself. What's great about this project - 'Glitter' is that it's not about playing 'the shark game' or having to prove myself. I've done that and I'm grateful for all that, but this is a soundtrack and it's something I've had on my mind for years. I'm in a good place about the whole thing. MTV: Have you written 'Glitter' - the soundtrack in character, as Billie from the movie?

Mariah: Yeah it was different. One of the songs is sort of in honour of someone else, and that ended up being in the film and really working. That's a personal situation. But all of the other songs were written in the character's voice or as an observer of what's going on in the movie at that moment. And the thing is, my character - Billie is a girl who grows up in a foster home because she's taken away from her mother at an early age, and her mother says she's gonna come back for her but by the time I enter the movie as Billie we realise that the mother never came back. So this is NOT autobiographical, it's not about my life. I'm like, best friends with my mom. My mother was the one who encouraged me and helped me in a major way to get to this place, in terms of my career. I wrote certain songs that I wouldn't have written as me, but now when I listen to them I realise that people can relate to them anyway. It was just where I was coming from while writing them.

MTV: You have a great relationship with your fans. Do you think the key to that is the great party music, or the messages behind it?

Mariah: I can only say that I'm grateful to have them in my life because my life is not normal, most people don't sit here talking to millions of people via the internet they have become [pauses to contemplate], they've like validated my existence in a way and become almost like an extended family for me. So, I think that the key to everything in this business is just staying real. Some people that come out, they have two hits or three hits maybe even two albums that do well for themselves but they suddenly think they're bigger than life and they lose the perspective of what real people do. My life is not normal, most people don't sit here talking to millions of people via the internet, T.V or whatever, but I mean if I'm walking down the street and I meet someone and I talk to them I can connect with them as a human being. Whereas a lot of people I meet in this industry just seem like they lose a part of themselves and become like a cold shell who think they're like king of all the world or queen of the world and it's like 'Hi... you're not!'[Laughs]."

MTV: Was the voice message idea on your website your idea, and is it simple to do?

Mariah: I literally call in and say whatever's off the top of my head and sometimes, you know, people can make a big deal out of it or an issue and be like analysing the messages when really it's just me talking to my fans like I'm sitting here talking to you, or like I would call a friend.

MTV: With all the recent arguments about Napster and such like, what's your view on music on the Internet?

Mariah: Well of course we don't want artists to get ripped off because historically artists always get ripped off. I am one of those people who has experienced that on a first hand basis. But you know, I think the technology is what it is and hopefully there will be some regulations so artists don't get screwed over, cos truthfully the record companies make probably 90 percent of the profit from everybody if not more than that. Like, if I were in charge of the thing (the internet companies) I would do deals direct with the artists and make sure that they were taken care of.

    No 20/20 Interview :(
My LAMB Mari told me that Mariah cancelled her interview w/ Barbara Walters, cuz she needs more rest. I also got 5 million e-mails about it, way too many to name, so thanks to everyone who sent the info. It's said that Mariah may or may not be back in the hospital.

Whatever the situation is, I hope that Mariah is ok, and taking care of herself. No matter what happens with the movie, or the CD, I want her to get better, no matter how long it takes. I just wish she'd stop worrying me so much :( She also cancelled her interview w/ Jay Leno. We love you Miss Mariah... please get better soon.

Will Mariah really be there?? I got an e-mail about this subject today, and someone told me that this morning on a radio station in Hartford, the DJ said that Mariah will, in fact, be there.

I've been wondering about this cuz I heard that Aaliyah was supposed to be a surprise guest on the show, but since she obviously can't be now, Mariah will be there, and sing for her. Since she will be doing the video for "Don't Stop" soon, that means she's fine now, and she could possibly be there, as like a come back thing. Ya neva know! Watch MTV on September 6th, @8pm Eastern time to find out. What betta way to make a come back, eh?

    EXCLUSIVE: "Everytime" Confirmed as Mariah!
Cam sent me this info, and I almost fell over. I can't believe it's actually been confirmed!! Here's what Cam said:

EMI/Virgin in Brazil & Japan both confirmed that "Everytime" is actually Mariah! How cool is that? It's like another song out there we didn't know about.

Here's a lil more info Cam sent me:
Foxtel's entertainment news show "Premiere" stated on Tuesday that both Pierce Brosnan & Mariah are confirmed to be in the next Bond film, Mariah of course being the next Bond Girl. I usually dismiss this as a rumour, however it *was* on national television.

Glitter is the highest selling album this week at HMV, Sanity & Leading Edge stores throughout Australia. The movie comes out here October 17th. The ARIA awards are on here in October, Mariah is rumoured to perform there as she will be in Australia for a quick promo tour for the movie.

    BRITNEY AND MARIAH WORK ON
Britney Spears and Mariah Carey will be among the few Americans who won't be taking a break for the nation's Labour Day (September 3) holiday - because they're shooting music videos. Carey, back up and running after her recent breakdown, is set to shoot the video for her single Don't Stop, featuring rapper Mystikal, and Britney will be before the cameras shooting the video for her single, I'm A Slave For You.

Carey's forces have been looking for males, aged 18-30 who are proficient at trampoline, well-versed in the Capoiera martial art form, and big, burly bouncer types for her video. The Spears team is simply assembling young, beautiful, sexy females and males for hers.

I don't have room to name everyone since I got so many replies, so thanx VERY MUCH to everyone who sent me info on this!
